Strong convergence and temporal-spatial regularity for tamed Euler approximations of L\'evy-driven SDEs

We study the temporal-spatial regularity properties of tamed Euler approximations for L\'evy-driven SDEs with superlinearly growing drift and diffusion coefficients. We first introduce a novel tamed Euler-type scheme and establish its strong convergence. We then derive temporal-spatial regularity estimates with respect to the initial value, the initial time, and the evaluation time. In particular, we obtain a stability estimate for fixed step size and a corresponding continuity estimate in the vanishing step-size regime. Numerical experiments are presented to support the theoretical results.

Multilevel Picard approximations overcome the curse of dimensionality in the numerical approximation of general semilinear PDEs with gradient-dependent nonlinearities

Neufeld and Wu (arXiv:2310.12545) developed a multilevel Picard (MLP) algorithm which can approximately solve general semilinear parabolic PDEs with gradient-dependent nonlinearities, allowing also for coefficient functions of the corresponding PDE to be non-constant. By introducing a particular stochastic fixed-point equation (SFPE) motivated by the Feynman-Kac representation and the Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula and identifying the first and second component of the unique fixed-point of the SFPE with the unique viscosity solution of the PDE and its gradient, they proved convergence of their algorithm. However, it remained an open question whether the proposed MLP schema in arXiv:2310.12545 does not suffer from the curse of dimensionality. In this paper, we prove that the MLP algorithm in arXiv:2310.12545 indeed can overcome the curse of dimensionality, i.e. that its computational complexity only grows polynomially in the dimension $d\in \mathbb{N}$ and the reciprocal of the accuracy $\varepsilon$, under some suitable assumptions on the nonlinear part of the corresponding PDE.

Multilevel Picard approximation algorithm for semilinear partial integro-differential equations and its complexity analysis

In this paper we introduce a multilevel Picard approximation algorithm for semilinear parabolic partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs). We prove that the numerical approximation scheme converges to the unique viscosity solution of the PIDE under consideration. To that end, we derive a Feynman-Kac representation for the unique viscosity solution of the semilinear PIDE, extending the classical Feynman-Kac representation for linear PIDEs. Furthermore, we show that the algorithm does not suffer from the curse of dimensionality, i.e. the computational complexity of the algorithm is bounded polynomially in the dimension $d$ and the reciprocal of the prescribed accuracy $\varepsilon$. We also provide a numerical example in up to 10'000 dimensions to demonstrate its applicability.

Multilevel Picard algorithm for general semilinear parabolic PDEs with gradient-dependent nonlinearities

In this paper we introduce a multilevel Picard approximation algorithm for general semilinear parabolic PDEs with gradient-dependent nonlinearities whose coefficient functions do not need to be constant. We also provide a full convergence and complexity analysis of our algorithm. To obtain our main results, we consider a particular stochastic fixed-point equation (SFPE) motivated by the Feynman-Kac representation and the Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula. We show that the PDE under consideration has a unique viscosity solution which coincides with the first component of the unique solution of the stochastic fixed-point equation. Moreover, the gradient of the unique viscosity solution of the PDE exists and coincides with the second component of the unique solution of the stochastic fixed-point equation. Furthermore, we also provide a numerical example in up to $300$ dimensions to demonstrate the practical applicability of our multilevel Picard algorithm.

Deep ReLU neural networks overcome the curse of dimensionality when approximating semilinear partial integro-differential equations

In this paper we consider PIDEs with gradient-independent Lipschitz continuous nonlinearities and prove that deep neural networks with ReLU activation function can approximate solutions of such semilinear PIDEs without curse of dimensionality in the sense that the required number of parameters in the deep neural networks increases at most polynomially in both the dimension $ d $ of the corresponding PIDE and the reciprocal of the prescribed accuracy $ε$.

Full error analysis of the random deep splitting method for nonlinear parabolic PDEs and PIDEs

In this paper, we present a randomized extension of the deep splitting algorithm introduced in [Beck, Becker, Cheridito, Jentzen, and Neufeld (2021)] using random neural networks suitable to approximately solve both high-dimensional nonlinear parabolic PDEs and PIDEs with jumps having (possibly) infinite activity. We provide a full error analysis of our so-called random deep splitting method. In particular, we prove that our random deep splitting method converges to the (unique viscosity) solution of the nonlinear PDE or PIDE under consideration. Moreover, we empirically analyze our random deep splitting method by considering several numerical examples including both nonlinear PDEs and nonlinear PIDEs relevant in the context of pricing of financial derivatives under default risk. In particular, we empirically demonstrate in all examples that our random deep splitting method can approximately solve nonlinear PDEs and PIDEs in 10'000 dimensions within seconds.

On Itô formulas for jump processes

A well-known Itô formula for finite dimensional processes, given in terms of stochastic integrals with respect to Wiener processes and Poisson random measures, is revisited and is revised. The revised formula, which corresponds to the classical Itô formula for semimartingales with jumps, is then used to obtain a generalisation of an important infinite dimensional Itô formula for continuous semimartingales proved by Krylov to a class of $L_p$-valued jump processes. This generalisation is motivated by applications in the theory of stochastic PDEs.

On $L_p$-Solvability of Stochastic Integro-Differential Equations

A class of (possibly) degenerate stochastic integro-differential equations of parabolic type is considered, which includes the Zakai equation in nonlinear filtering for jump diffusions. Existence and uniqueness of the solutions are established in Bessel potential spaces.

Itô's formula for jump processes in $L_p$-spaces

We present an Itô formula for the $L_p$-norm of jump processes having stochastic differentials in $L_p$-spaces. The main results extend well-known theorems of Krylov to the case of processes with jumps, and which can be used to prove existence and uniqueness theorems in $L_p$-spaces for SPDEs driven by Lévy processes.

On solvability of integro-differential equations

A class of (possibly) degenerate integro-differential equations of parabolic type is considered, which includes the Kolmogorov equations for jump diffusions. Existence and uniqueness of the solutions are established in Bessel potential spaces and in Sobolev-Slobodeckij spaces. Generalisations to stochastic integro-differential equations, arising in filtering theory of jump diffusions, will be given in a forthcoming paper.
