Method for 3D printing of cubic microbubbles: fully enclosed thin-walled microcavities with ultra-high aspect ratios

A microbubble is, in essence, a fully enclosed thin-walled microcavity. Unlike spherical microbubbles formed by expansions, 3D printing enables the free definition of their geometry, allowing precise control over shape and dimensions during fabrication. However, the geometric nature of microbubbles poses significant challenges for conventional photoresist-based lithographic microfabrication due to their fragile thin-walls, enclosed hollow volumes, and high sensitivity to mechanical stresses. These characteristics prevent developer solvents from accessing the internal cavities to remove unexposed photoresist. Two-photon polymerisation (2PP) is a laser-based 3D microprinting technique capable of sub-diffraction-limited resolution, offering exceptional design freedom for fabricating complex micro-architectures in photoresists. In this study, we demonstrate a 2PP-based method that overcomes these limitations and, for the first time, enables the successful fabrication of cubic microbubbles with ultra-high-aspect-ratio thin walls and fully enclosed microcavities using high-viscosity SU-8 2050 photoresist. The optimised process parameters and structural design facilitate efficient extraction of unexposed photoresist from the cavity interior while achieving a thin-wall ultra-high aspect ratio of approximately 340:1. The hollow nature and mechanical integrity of the printed structures were experimentally confirmed using micromanipulator-based probing. The proposed method maintains excellent dimensional accuracy and significantly reduces printing time for large-scale and high-count builds in 2PP processes. Such microbubbles are fundamental building blocks for optical resonators, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) pressure sensors, microfluidic reaction chambers, and emerging metamaterials.

FinAgent: An Agentic AI Framework Integrating Personal Finance and Nutrition Planning

The issue of limited household budgets and nutritional demands continues to be a challenge especially in the middle-income environment where food prices fluctuate. This paper introduces a price aware agentic AI system, which combines personal finance management with diet optimization. With household income and fixed expenditures, medical and well-being status, as well as real-time food costs, the system creates nutritionally sufficient meals plans at comparatively reasonable prices that automatically adjust to market changes. The framework is implemented in a modular multi-agent architecture, which has specific agents (budgeting, nutrition, price monitoring, and health personalization). These agents share the knowledge base and use the substitution graph to ensure that the nutritional quality is maintained at a minimum cost. Simulations with a representative Saudi household case study show a steady 12-18\% reduction in costs relative to a static weekly menu, nutrient adequacy of over 95\% and high performance with price changes of 20-30%. The findings indicate that the framework can locally combine affordability with nutritional adequacy and provide a viable avenue of capacity-building towards sustainable and fair diet planning in line with Sustainable Development Goals on Zero Hunger and Good Health.

Agentic AI Framework for Cloudburst Prediction and Coordinated Response

The challenge is growing towards extreme and short-duration rainfall events like a cloudburst that are peculiar to the traditional forecasting systems, in which the predictions and the response are taken as two distinct processes. The paper outlines an agentic artificial intelligence system to study atmospheric water-cycle intelligence, which combines sensing, forecasting, downscaling, hydrological modeling and coordinated response into a single, interconnected, priceless, closed-loop system. The framework uses autonomous but cooperative agents that reason, sense, and act throughout the entire event lifecycle, and use the intelligence of weather prediction to become real-time decision intelligence. Comparison of multi-year radar, satellite, and ground-based evaluation of the northern part of Pakistan demonstrates that the multi-agent configuration enhances forecast reliability, critical success index and warning lead time compared to the baseline models. Population reach was maximised, and errors during evacuation were minimised through communication and routing agents, and adaptive recalibration and transparent auditability were provided by the embedded layer of learning. Collectively, this leads to the conclusion that collaborative AI agents are capable of transforming atmospheric data streams into practicable foresight and provide a platform of scalable adaptive and learning-based climate resilience.

Quaternion Toeplitz matrices and their fundamental properties

Toeplitz matrices are characterized by their constant diagonals, have been extensively studied in various settings, including over real and complex numbers. However, their study over quaternions is quite sparse. In this paper, we investigate the structure and the algebraic properties of quaternion Toeplitz matrices. Most importantly, we established a complete characterization of all normal Toeplitz matrices having entries commutative quaternions.

Optimal Energy Interruption Planning and Generation Re-dispatch for Improving Reliability during Contingencies

Improving distribution grid reliability is a major challenge for planning and operation of distribution systems having a high share of distributed generators (DGs). The rise of DGs share can lead to unplanned contingencies while on the other hand, they can provide flexibility in supporting grid operations after a contingency event. This paper presents an optimal energy interruption planning approach that dispatches the flexibility from DGs and performs a cost-optimal load shedding of flexible loads. The proposed approach is tested on a synthetic grid, representing typical urban and low voltage feeders in EU with distribution networks modeled in radial and meshed configurations. The study shows that the proposed optimization process can be successfully used to plan resources during contingency event and this can lead to a reduction in energy not supplied and improvement of reliability indices.

Stochastic Battery Model for Aggregation of Thermostatically Controlled Loads

The potential of demand side as a frequency reserve proposes interesting opportunity in handling imbalances due to intermittent renewable energy sources. This paper proposes a novel approach for computing the parameters of a stochastic battery model representing the aggregation of Thermostatically Controlled Loads (TCLs). A hysteresis based non-disruptive control is used using priority stack algorithm to track the reference regulation signal. The parameters of admissible ramp-rate and the charge limits of the battery are dynamically calculated using the information from TCLs that is the status (on/off), availability and relative temperature distance till the switching boundary. The approach builds on and improves on the existing research work by providing a straight-forward mechanism for calculation of stochastic parameters of equivalent battery model. The effectiveness of proposed approach is demonstrated by a test case having a large number of residential TCLs tracking a scaled down real frequency regulation signal.
