Dark Matter Admixed White Dwarfs: A Single-Fluid Approach

In this study, we investigate the influence of an admixed fermionic dark matter (DM) component on the equilibrium structure of white dwarfs (WDs), with particular emphasis on the effects of varying the DM particle mass ($m_{\rm DM}$) and DM fraction ($f_{\rm DM}$). Notably, we employ a single-fluid approximation for the first time in this context, wherein the baryonic and DM contributions to the total energy density and pressure are treated within a unified framework, assuming non-interacting fermionic DM in hydrostatic equilibrium with baryons. We examine how variations in $m_{\mathrm{DM}}$ and $f_\mathrm{DM}$ modify the equation of state (EoS), the mass-radius relationship, and the internal mass and pressure distributions of WDs. Our results show that the presence of DM softens the EoS, with lighter DM particles providing stronger pressure support and leading to more extended stellar structures. Increasing the DM mass fraction leads to a more compact configuration, reducing both the radius and maximum mass of the WD. We further demonstrate that heavier DM particles enhance stellar compactness and can eventually drive the star toward gravitational instability. Moreover, the analysis of mass-radius relationships reveals that while small fractions of DM are consistent with observed WD masses, the radii predicted by our models are smaller than observations, suggesting additional influences such as rotation or magnetic fields. Our stability analysis confirms that the inclusion of dark matter does not lead to instability within the expected parameter space, indicating that white dwarfs admixed with dark matter can remain dynamically stable under certain conditions. These findings show that even a small admixture of DM can modify the structural properties and stability limits of WDs, providing a potential indirect astrophysical probe of DM particle properties.

Mass-radius relationship and gravitational wave emission from magnetized spheroidal quark stars

In this work, we investigate the structure and gravitational wave (GW) signatures of strongly magnetized, oblate spheroidal quark stars by employing an anisotropic equation of state (EoS) derived from the MIT Bag model, extended to include the effects of density-dependent strong magnetic fields and the resulting pressure anisotropy arising from the breaking of spatial symmetry. Both magnetized strange quark matter (MSQM) and magnetized color-flavor locked (MCFL) phases are examined within the framework of the $γ$-metric formalism, which captures the deviation from spherical symmetry. We compute the mass-radius relation, ellipticity, gravitational redshift, mass quadrupole moment and tidal deformability for representative bag constants of $\rm{65\,MeV/fm^3}$ and $\rm{75\,MeV/fm^3}$. Using the obtained quadrupole moments, we further estimate the continuous gravitational wave strain amplitude ($h_{0}$) for isolated deformed rotating quark stars. Our results indicate that density-dependent strong magnetic fields and color superconductivity can significantly alter stellar compactness and yield gravitational wave signals, potentially detectable by next generation observatories like the Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer.

Mass-Radius relationship of Strongly Magnetized Super-Chandrasekhar Anisotropic Deformed White Dwarf Stars in presence of $γ$-metric

The masses and radii of strongly magnetized anisotropic deformed white dwarf stars are investigated using the stellar structure equations in the parameterized $γ$-metric formalism. The Equation of State (EoS) of a completely degenerate relativistic electron gas in strong quantizing density-dependent magnetic field is developed. The fluid and field pressure anisotropy among the parallel and perpendicular components to the magnetic field is taken into consideration. This anisotropy in the EoS causes axisymmetric deformation of the star. We found stable solutions of deformed super-Chandrasekhar ultramassive white dwarfs. The masses of anisotropic magnetized white dwarfs at the same central density decrease monotonically with the increase in the strength of the central magnetic field, while the equatorial radii increase monotonically. This is in sharp contrast to the isotropic case where both the mass and radius increase monotonically. High magnetic field increases anisotropy and oblateness. We also see that the maximum mass and its corresponding equatorial radius both decrease as central magnetic field strength increases. We also notice that the maximum mass occurs at higher central density as the magnetic field increases. This shows that increasing magnetic field (hence increasing anisotropy) softens the EoS and makes the star more compact.

Effect of quantizing magnetic field on the inner crusts of hot Neutron Stars

In the present work we study the effects of strongly quantizing magnetic fields and finite temperature on the properties of inner crusts of hot neutron stars. The inner crust of a neutron star contains neutron-rich nuclei arranged in a lattice and embedded in gases of free neutrons and electrons. We describe the system within the Wigner-Seitz (WS) cell approximation. The nuclear energy is calculated using Skyrme model with SkM* interaction. To isolate the properties of nuclei we follow the subtraction procedure presented by Bonche, Levit and Vautherin, within the Thomas-Fermi approximation. We obtain the equilibrium properties of inner crust for various density, temperatures and magnetic fields by minimizing the free energy of the WS cell satisfying the charge neutrality and $β-$equilibrium conditions. We infer that at a fixed baryon density and temperature, strong quantizing magnetic field reduces the cell radii, neutron and proton numbers in the cell compared with the field free case. However, the nucleon number in the nucleus increases in presence of magnetic field. The free energy per nucleon also decreases in magnetized inner crust. On the other hand, we find that finite temperature tends to smear out the effects of magnetic field. Our results can be important in the context of $r-$process nucleosynthesis in the binary neutron star mergers.

Compact star deformation and universal relationship for magnetized white dwarfs

Recently super-Chandrasekhar mass limit has been derived theoretically in presence of strong magnetic field to complement experimental observations. In the framework of Newtonian physics, we have studied the equilibrium configurations of such magnetized white dwarfs by using the relativistic Thomas-Fermi equation of state for magnetized white-dwarfs. Hartle formalism, for slowly rotating stars, has been employed to obtain the equations of equilibrium. Various physical quantities of uniformly rotating and non-rotating white dwarfs have been calculated within this formalism. Consequently, the universality relationship between the moment of inertia(I), rotational love number($λ$) and spin induced quadrupole moment(Q), namely the I-Love-Q relationship, has been investigated for such magnetized white dwarfs. The relationship between I, eccentricity and Q i.e. I-eccentricity-Q relationship has also been derived. Further, we have found that, the I-eccentricity-Q relationship is more universal in comparison to I-Love-Q relationship.

Gravitational waves from r-mode instability of massive young sub- and super-Chandrasekhar white dwarfs

In the present work we investigate the r-mode instability windows, spindown and spindown rates of sub- and super-Chandrasekhar magnetized white dwarfs in presence of Landau quantization of the electron gas and magnetic braking. The gravitational wave strain amplitudes due to r-mode instability is also calculated. The dominant damping mechanism is taken to be the shear viscosity arising due to scattering of the degenerate electrons from the ion liquid. We find that the critical frequencies of Landau quantized magnetized white dwarfs are the lowest, those of non-Landau quantized ones are higher and those of non-magnetized ones are the highest at the same temperature. This implies that magnetic braking and Landau quantization both enhance r-mode instability. We have also seen that there is rapid spindown of magnetized white dwarfs due to additional magnetic braking term but there is no considerable effect of Landau quantization on the spindown and spindown rates for magnetic field strengths relevant for white dwarf interiors. We find that the r-mode gravitational wave strain amplitude for a rapidly rotating super-Chandrasekhar white dwarf at 1 kpc is $\sim 10^{-27}$, making isolated massive rapidly rotating hot magnetized white dwarfs prime candidates for search of gravitational waves in the future.

Relativistic Feynman-Metropolis-Teller Equation of State for White Dwarfs in presence of Magnetic Field

The relativistic Feynman-Metropolis-Teller treatment of compressed atoms is extended to treat magnetized matter. Each atomic configuration is confined by a Wigner-Seitz cell and is characterized by a positive electron Fermi energy which varies insignificantly with the magnetic field. In the relativistic treatment the limiting configuration is reached when the Wigner-Seitz cell radius equals the radius of the nucleus with a maximum value of the electron Fermi energy which can not be attained in presence of magnetic field due to the effect of Landau quantization of electrons within the Wigner-Seitz cell. This treatment is implemented to develop the Equation of State for magnetized White Dwarf stars in presence of Coulomb screening. The mass-radius relations for magnetized White Dwarfs are obtained by solving the general relativistic hydrostatic equilibrium equations using Schwarzschild metric description suitable for non rotating and slowly rotating stars. The explicit effects of the magnetic energy density and pressure contributed by a density-dependent magnetic field are included to find the stable configurations of magnetized Super-Chandrasekhar White Dwarfs.

Rossby modes in neutron stars as sources of gravitational waves

In the present work, we explore the Rossby mode instabilities in neutron stars as sources of gravitational waves. The intensity and time evolution of the emitted gravitational waves in terms of the amplitude of the strain tensor are estimated in the slow rotation approximation using $β$-equilibrated neutron star matter obtained from density dependent M3Y effective interaction. For a wide range of neutron star masses, the fiducial gravitational and various viscous time scales, the critical frequencies and the time evolutions of the frequencies are calculated. The dissipative mechanism of the Rossby modes is considered to be driven by the shear viscosity along the boundary layer of the solid crust-liquid core interface as well as in the core and the bulk viscosity. It is found that neutron stars with slower frequency of rotation, for the same mass, radius and surface temperature, are expected to emit gravitational waves of higher intensity.

Gravitational waves from isolated neutron stars: mass dependence of r-mode instability

In this work we study the r-mode instability windows and the gravitational wave signatures of neutron stars in the slow rotation approximation using the equation of state obtained from the density dependent M3Y effective interaction. We consider the neutron star matter to be $β$-equilibrated neutron-proton-electron matter at the core with a rigid crust. The fiducial gravitational and viscous timescales, the critical frequencies and the time evolutions of the frequencies and the rates of frequency change are calculated for a range of neutron star masses. We show that the young and hot rotating neutron stars lie in the r-mode instability region. We also emphasize that if the dominant dissipative mechanism of the r-mode is the shear viscosity along the boundary layer of the crust-core interface, then the neutron stars with low $L$ value lie in the r-mode instability region and hence emit gravitational radiation.

Compact bifluid hybrid stars: Hadronic Matter mixed with self-interacting fermionic Asymmetric Dark Matter

The masses and radii of non-rotating and rotating configurations of pure hadronic stars mixed with self-interacting fermionic Asymmetric Dark Matter are calculated within the two-fluid formalism of stellar structure equations in general relativity. The Equation of State (EoS) of nuclear matter is obtained from the density dependent M3Y effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. We consider dark matter particle mass of 1 GeV. The EoS of self-interacting dark matter is taken from two-body repulsive interactions of the scale of strong interactions. We explore the conditions of equal and different rotational frequencies of nuclear matter and dark matter and find that the maximum mass of differentially rotating stars with self-interacting dark matter to be $\sim 1.94 M_\odot$ with radius $\sim 10.4$ kms.

Core-crust transition and crustal fraction of moment of inertia in neutron stars

The crustal fraction of moment of inertia in neutron stars is calculated using $β$-equilibrated nuclear matter obtained from density dependent M3Y effective interaction. The transition density, pressure and proton fraction at the inner edge separating the liquid core from the solid crust of the neutron stars determined from the thermodynamic stability conditions are found to be $ρ_t=$ 0.0938 fm$^{-3}$, P$_t=$ 0.5006 MeV fm$^{-3}$ and $x_{p(t)}=$ 0.0308, respectively. The crustal fraction of the moment of inertia can be extracted from studying pulsar glitches and is most sensitive to the pressure as well as density at the transition from the crust to the core. These results for pressure and density at core-crust transition together with the observed minimum crustal fraction of the total moment of inertia provide a new limit for the radius of the Vela pulsar: $R \geq 4.10 + 3.36 M/M_\odot$ kms.

Landau quantization and mass-radius relation of magnetized White Dwarfs in general relativity

Recently, several white dwarfs have been proposed with masses significantly above the Chandrasekhar limit, known as Super-Chandrasekhar White Dwarfs, to account for the overluminous Type Ia supernovae. In the present work, Equation of State of a completely degenerate relativistic electron gas in magnetic field based on Landau quantization of charged particles in a magnetic field is developed. The mass-radius relations for magnetized White Dwarfs are obtained by solving the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations. The effects of the magnetic energy density and pressure contributed by a density-dependent magnetic field are treated properly to find the stability configurations of realistic magnetic White Dwarf stars.

A Novel Directional Weighted Minimum Deviation (DWMD) Based Filter for Removal of Random Valued Impulse Noise

The most median-based de noising methods works fine for restoring the images corrupted by Randomn Valued Impulse Noise with low noise level but very poor with highly corrupted images. In this paper a directional weighted minimum deviation (DWMD) based filter has been proposed for removal of high random valued impulse noise (RVIN). The proposed approach based on Standard Deviation (SD) works in two phases. The first phase detects the contaminated pixels by differencing between the test pixel and its neighbor pixels aligned with four main directions. The second phase filters only those pixels keeping others intact. The filtering scheme is based on minimum standard deviation of the four directional pixels. Extensive simulations show that the proposed filter not only provide better performance of de noising RVIN but can preserve more details features even thin lines or dots. This technique shows better performance in terms of PSNR, Image Fidelity and Computational Cost compared to the existing filters.

Image Filtering using All Neighbor Directional Weighted Pixels: Optimization using Particle Swarm Optimization

In this paper a novel approach for de noising images corrupted by random valued impulses has been proposed. Noise suppression is done in two steps. The detection of noisy pixels is done using all neighbor directional weighted pixels (ANDWP) in the 5 x 5 window. The filtering scheme is based on minimum variance of the four directional pixels. In this approach, relatively recent category of stochastic global optimization technique i.e., particle swarm optimization (PSO) has also been used for searching the parameters of detection and filtering operators required for optimal performance. Results obtained shows better de noising and preservation of fine details for highly corrupted images.
