Comments on all-loop constraints for scattering amplitudes and Feynman integrals

We comment on the status of "Steinmann-like" constraints, i.e. all-loop constraints on consecutive entries of the symbol of scattering amplitudes and Feynman integrals in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills, which have been crucial for the recent progress of the bootstrap program. Based on physical discontinuities and Steinmann relations, we first summarize all possible double discontinuities (or first-two-entries) for (the symbol of) amplitudes and integrals in terms of dilogarithms, generalizing well-known results for $n=6,7$ to all multiplicities. As our main result, we find that extended-Steinmann relations hold for all finite integrals that we have checked, including various ladder integrals, generic double-pentagon integrals, as well as finite components of two-loop NMHV amplitudes for any $n$; with suitable normalization such as minimal subtraction, they hold for $n=8$ MHV amplitudes at three loops. We find interesting cancellation between contributions from rational and algebraic letters, and for the former we have also tested cluster-adjacency conditions using the so-called Sklyanin brackets. Finally, we propose a list of possible last-two-entries for $n$-point MHV amplitudes derived from $\bar{Q}$ equations, which can be used to reduce the space of functions for higher-point MHV amplitudes.

$T\bar{T}$-flow effects on torus partition functions

In this paper, we investigate the partition functions of conformal field theories (CFTs) with the $T\bar{T}$ deformation on a torus in terms of the perturbative QFT approach. In Lagrangian path integral formalism, the first- and second-order deformations to the partition functions of 2D free bosons, free Dirac fermions, and free Majorana fermions on a torus are obtained. The corresponding Lagrangian counterterms in these theories are also discussed. The first two orders of the deformed partition functions and the first-order vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the first quantum KdV charge obtained by the perturbative QFT approach are consistent with results obtained by the Hamiltonian formalism in literature.

Notes on polytopes, amplitudes and boundary configurations for Grassmannian string integrals

We continue the study of positive geometries underlying the {\it Grassmannian string integrals}, which are a class of "stringy canonical forms", or stringy integrals, over the positive Grassmannian mod torus action, $G_+(k,n)/T$. The leading order of any such stringy integral is given by the canonical function of a polytope, which can be obtained using the Minkowski sum of the Newton polytopes for the regulators of the integral, or equivalently given by the so-called scattering-equation map. The canonical function of the polytopes for Grassmannian string integrals, or the volume of their dual polytopes, is also known as the generalized bi-adjoint $ϕ^3$ amplitudes. We compute all the linear functions for the facets which cut out the polytope for all cases up to $n=9$, with up to k=4 and their parity conjugate cases. The main novelty of our computation is that we present these facets in a manifestly gauge-invariant and cyclic way, and identify the boundary configurations of $G_+(k,n)/T$ corresponding to these facets, which have nice geometric interpretations in terms of $n$ points in $(k{-}1)$-dimensional space. All the facets and configurations we discovered up to $n=9$ directly generalize to all $n$, although new types are still needed for higher $n$.

Truncated cluster algebras and Feynman integrals with algebraic letters

We propose that the symbol alphabet for classes of planar, dual-conformal-invariant Feynman integrals can be obtained as truncated cluster algebras purely from their kinematics, which correspond to boundaries of (compactifications of) $G_+(4,n)/T$ for the $n$-particle massless kinematics. For one-, two-, three-mass-easy hexagon kinematics with $n=7,8,9$, we find finite cluster algebras $D_4$, $D_5$ and $D_6$ respectively, in accordance with previous result on alphabets of these integrals. As the main example, we consider hexagon kinematics with two massive corners on opposite sides and find a truncated affine $D_4$ cluster algebra whose polytopal realization is a co-dimension 4 boundary of that of $G_+(4,8)/T$ with 39 facets; the normal vectors for 38 of them correspond to g-vectors and the remaining one gives a limit ray, which yields an alphabet of $38$ rational letters and $5$ algebraic ones with the unique four-mass-box square root. We construct the space of integrable symbols with this alphabet and physical first-entry conditions, whose dimension can be reduced using conditions from a truncated version of cluster adjacency. Already at weight $4$, by imposing last-entry conditions inspired by the $n=8$ double-pentagon integral, we are able to uniquely determine an integrable symbol that gives the algebraic part of the most generic double-pentagon integral. Finally, we locate in the space the $n=8$ double-pentagon ladder integrals up to four loops using differential equations derived from Wilson-loop $d\log$ forms, and we find a remarkable pattern about the appearance of algebraic letters.

Notes on cluster algebras and some all-loop Feynman integrals

We study cluster algebras for some all-loop Feynman integrals, including box-ladder, penta-box-ladder, and (seven-point) double-penta-ladder integrals. In addition to the well-known box ladder whose symbol alphabet is $D_2\simeq A_1^2$, we show that penta-box ladder has an alphabet of $D_3\simeq A_3$ and provide strong evidence that the alphabet of double-penta ladder can be identified with a $D_4$ cluster algebra. We relate the symbol letters to the ${\bf u}$ variables of cluster configuration space, which provide a gauge-invariant description of the cluster algebra, and we find various sub-algebras associated with limits of the integrals. We comment on constraints similar to extended-Steinmann relations or cluster adjacency conditions on cluster function spaces. Our study of the symbol and alphabet is based on the recently proposed Wilson-loop ${\rm d}\log$ representation, which allows us to predict higher-loop alphabet recursively; by applying such recursions to six-dimensional hexagon integrals, we also find $D_5$ and $D_6$ cluster functions for the two-mass-easy and three-mass-easy case, respectively.

Stringy Canonical Forms

Canonical forms of positive geometries play an important role in revealing hidden structures of scattering amplitudes, from amplituhedra to associahedra. In this paper, we introduce "stringy canonical forms", which provide a natural definition and extension of canonical forms for general polytopes, deformed by a parameter $α'$. They are defined by real or complex integrals regulated with polynomials with exponents, and are meromorphic functions of the exponents, sharing various properties of string amplitudes. As $α' \to 0$, they reduce to the usual canonical form of a polytope given by the Minkowski sum of the Newton polytopes of the regulating polynomials, or equivalently the volume of the dual of this polytope, naturally determined by tropical functions. At finite $α'$, they have simple poles corresponding to the facets of the polytope, with the residue on the pole given by the stringy canonical form of the facet. There is the remarkable connection between the $α' \to 0$ limit of tree-level string amplitudes, and scattering equations that appear when studying the $α' \to \infty$ limit. We show that there is a simple conceptual understanding of this phenomenon for any stringy canonical form: the saddle-point equations provide a diffeomorphism from the integration domain to the interior of the polytope, and thus the canonical form can be obtained as a pushforward via summing over saddle points. When the stringy canonical form is applied to the ABHY associahedron in kinematic space, it produces the usual Koba-Nielsen string integral, giving a direct path from particle to string amplitudes without an a priori reference to the string worldsheet. We also discuss a number of other examples, including stringy canonical forms for finite-type cluster algebras (with type A for string amplitudes), and other natural integrals over the positive Grassmannian.

The Wilson-loop $d \log$ representation for Feynman integrals

We introduce and study the Wilson-loop ${\rm d}\log$ representation of certain Feynman integrals for scattering amplitudes in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and beyond, which makes their evaluation completely straightforward. Such a representation was motivated by the dual Wilson loop picture, and it can also be derived by partial Feynman parametrization of loop integrals. We first introduce it for the simplest one-loop examples, the chiral pentagon in four dimensions and the three-mass-easy hexagon in six dimensions, which are represented by two- and three-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integrals that are nicely related to each other. For multi-loop examples, we write the $L$-loop generalized penta-ladders as $2(L{-}1)$-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integrals of some one-loop integral, so that once the latter is known, the integration can be performed in a systematic way. In particular, we write the eight-point penta-ladder as a $2L$-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integral whose symbol can be computed without performing the integration; we also obtain the last entries and the symbol alphabet of these integrals. Similarly we compute and study the symbol of the seven-point double-penta-ladder, which is represented by a $2(L{-}1)$-fold integral of a hexagon; the latter can be written as a two-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integral plus a boundary term. We comment on the relation of our representation to differential equations and resum the ladders by solving certain integral equations.

A Note on Letters of Yangian Invariants

Motivated by reformulating Yangian invariants in planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM directly as $d\log$ forms on momentum-twistor space, we propose a purely algebraic problem of determining the arguments of the $d\log$'s, which we call "letters", for any Yangian invariant. These are functions of momentum twistors $Z$'s, given by the positive coordinates $α$'s of parametrizations of the matrix $C(α)$, evaluated on the support of polynomial equations $C(α) \cdot Z=0$. We provide evidence that the letters of Yangian invariants are related to the cluster algebra of Grassmannian $G(4,n)$, which is relevant for the symbol alphabet of $n$-point scattering amplitudes. For $n=6,7$, the collection of letters for all Yangian invariants contains the cluster ${\cal A}$ coordinates of $G(4,n)$. We determine algebraic letters of Yangian invariant associated with any "four-mass" box, which for $n=8$ reproduce the $18$ multiplicative-independent, algebraic symbol letters discovered recently for two-loop amplitudes.

The symbol and alphabet of two-loop NMHV amplitudes from $\bar{Q}$ equations

We study the symbol and the alphabet for two-loop NMHV amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills from the $\bar{Q}$ equations, which provide a first-principle method for computing multi-loop amplitudes. Starting from one-loop N${}^2$MHV ratio functions, we explain in detail how to use $\bar{Q}$ equations to obtain the total differential of two-loop $n$-point NMHV amplitudes, whose symbol contains letters that are algebraic functions of kinematics for $n\geq 8$. We present explicit formula with nice patterns for the part of the symbol involving algebraic letters for all multiplicities, and we find $17-2m$ multiplicative-independent letters for a given square root of Gram determinant, with $0\leq m\leq 4$ depending on the number of particles involved in the square root. We also observe that these algebraic letters can be found as poles of one-loop four-mass leading singularities with MHV or NMHV trees. As a byproduct of our algebraic results, we find a large class of components of two-loop NMHV, which can be written as differences of two double-pentagon integrals, particularly simple and absent of square roots. As an example, we present the complete symbol for $n=9$ whose alphabet contains $59\times 9$ rational letters, in addition to the $11 \times 9$ independent algebraic ones. We also give all-loop NMHV last-entry conditions for all multiplicities.

Note on Integrability of Marginally Deformed ABJ(M) Theories

We study the anomalous dimensions of operators in the scalar sector of β-deformed ABJ(M) theories. We show that the anomalous dimension matrix at two-loop order gives an integrable Hamiltonian acting on an alternating SU(4) spin chain with the spins at odd lattice sides in the fundamental representation and the spins at even lattices in the anti-fundamental representation. We get a set of $β$-deformed Bethe ansatz equations which give the eigenvalues of Hamiltonian of this deformed spin chain system. Based on our computations, we also extend our study to non-supersymmetric three-parameter $γ$-deformation of ABJ(M) theories and find that the corresponding Hamiltonian is the same as the one in β-deformed case at two-loop level in the scalar sector.

Feynman Integrals and Scattering Amplitudes from Wilson Loops

We study Feynman integrals and scattering amplitudes in ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills by exploiting the duality with null polygonal Wilson loops. Certain Feynman integrals, including one-loop and two-loop chiral pentagons, are given by Feynman diagrams of a supersymmetric Wilson loop, where one can perform loop integrations and be left with simple integrals along edges. As the main application, we compute analytically for the first time, the symbol of the generic ($n\geq 12$) double pentagon, which gives two-loop MHV amplitudes and components of NMHV amplitudes to all multiplicities. We represent the double pentagon as a two-fold $\mathrm{d} \log$ integral of a one-loop hexagon, and the non-trivial part of the integration lies at rationalizing square roots contained in the latter. We obtain a remarkably compact "algebraic words" which contain $6$ algebraic letters for each of the $16$ square roots, and they all nicely cancel in combinations for MHV amplitudes and NMHV components which are free of square roots. In addition to $96$ algebraic letters, the alphabet consists of $152$ dual conformal invariant combinations of rational letters.

Stringy canonical forms and binary geometries from associahedra, cyclohedra and generalized permutohedra

Stringy canonical forms are a class of integrals that provide $α'$-deformations of the canonical form of any polytopes. For generalized associahedra of finite-type cluster algebra, there exist completely rigid stringy integrals, whose configuration spaces are the so-called binary geometries, and for classical types are associated with (generalized) scattering of particles and strings. In this paper we propose a large class of rigid stringy canonical forms for another class of polytopes, generalized permutohedra, which also include associahedra and cyclohedra as special cases (type $A_n$ and $B_n$ generalized associahedra). Remarkably, we find that the configuration spaces of such integrals are also binary geometries, which were suspected to exist for generalized associahedra only. For any generalized permutohedron that can be written as Minkowski sum of coordinate simplices, we show that its rigid stringy integral factorizes into products of lower integrals for massless poles at finite $α'$, and the configuration space is binary although the $u$ equations take a more general form than those "perfect" ones for cluster cases. Moreover, we provide an infinite class of examples obtained by degenerations of type $A_n$ and $B_n$ integrals, which have perfect $u$ equations as well. Our results provide yet another family of generalizations of the usual string integral and moduli space, whose physical interpretations remain to be explored.

Revisit on holographic complexity in two-dimensional gravity

We revisit the late-time growth rate of various holographic complexity conjectures for neutral and charged AdS black holes with single or multiple horizons in two dimensional (2D) gravity like Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity and JT-like gravity. For complexity-action conjecture, we propose an alternative resolution to the vanishing growth rate at late-time for 2D neutral black hole with multiple horizons as found in the previous studies for JT gravity. For complexity-volume conjectures, we obtain the generic forms of late-time growth rates in the context of extremal volume and Wheeler-DeWitt volume.

One-loop Correlators and BCJ Numerators from Forward Limits

We present new formulas for one-loop ambitwistor-string correlators for gauge theories in any even dimension with arbitrary combinations of gauge bosons, fermions and scalars running in the loop. Our results are driven by new all-multiplicity expressions for tree-level two-fermion correlators in the RNS formalism that closely resemble the purely bosonic ones. After taking forward limits of tree-level correlators with an additional pair of fermions/bosons, one-loop correlators become combinations of Lorentz traces in vector and spinor representations. Identities between these two types of traces manifest all supersymmetry cancellations and the power counting of loop momentum. We also obtain parity-odd contributions from forward limits with chiral fermions. One-loop numerators satisfying the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) duality for diagrams with linearized propagators can be extracted from such correlators using the well-established tree-level techniques in Yang-Mills theory coupled to biadjoint scalars. Finally, we obtain streamlined expressions for BCJ numerators up to seven points using multiparticle fields.

Correlation functions of the CFTs on torus with $T\bar{T}$ deformation

In this paper, we investigate the correlation functions of the conformal field theory (CFT) with the $T\bar{T}$ deformation on torus in terms of perturbative CFT approach, which is the extension of the previous investigations on correlation functions defined on a plane. We systematically obtain the first order correction to the correlation functions of the CFTs with $T\bar{T}$ deformation in both operator formalism and path integral language. As a consistency check, we compute the deformed partition function, namely the zero-point correlation function, up to the first order, which is consistent with results in literature. Moreover, we obtain a new recursion relation for correlation functions with multiple $T$'s and $\bar{T}$'s insertion in generic CFTs on torus. Base on the recursion relations, we study some correlation functions of stress tensors up to the first order under $T\bar{T}$ deformation.

On Positive Geometry and Scattering Forms for Matter Particles

We initiate the study of positive geometry and scattering forms for tree-level amplitudes with matter particles in the (anti-)fundamental representation of the color/flavor group. As a toy example, we study the bi-color scalar theory, which supplements the bi-adjoint theory with scalars in the (anti-)fundamental representations of both groups. Using a recursive construction we obtain a class of unbounded polytopes called open associahedra (or associahedra with certain facets at infinity) whose canonical form computes amplitudes in bi-color theory, for arbitrary number of legs and flavor assignments. In addition, we discuss the duality between color factors and wedge products, or "color is kinematics", for amplitudes with matter particles as well.

Thermodynamical property of entanglement entropy and deconfinement phase transition

We analyze the holographic entanglement entropy in a soliton background with Wilson lines and derive a relation analogous to the first law of thermodynamics. The confinement/deconfinement phase transition occurs due to the competition of two minimal surfaces. The entropic c function probes the confinement/deconfinement phase transition. It is sensitive to the degrees of freedom (DOF) smaller than the size of a spatial circle. When the Wilson line becomes large, the entropic c function becomes non-monotonic as a function of the size and does not satisfy the usual c-theorem. We analyze the entanglement entropy for a small subregion and the relation analogous to the first law of thermodynamics. For the small amount of Wilson lines, the excited amount of the entanglement entropy decreases from the ground state. It reflects that confinement decreases degrees of freedom. We finally discuss the second order correction of the holographic entanglement entropy.

Analytic Study of Magnetic Catalysis in Holographic QCD

We explore the effect of the magnetic field on the QCD phase transition through AdS/CFT correspondence. By introducing an anisotropic magnetic field in the Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar system, a family of analytic solutions is obtained by the potential reconstruction method where the contribution of the magnetic field in the blackening background can be analytically derived. After imposing the kinetic gauge function by requesting the linear Regge spectrum of $J/ψ$ mesons, the contribution of the magnetic field phase diagram can be demonstrated. The results show that the transition temperature will be raising as the magnetic field increases, which is the so-call magnetic catalysis effect. However, if the system is in a strong enough magnetic environment, the transition temperature will be cool down and display the inverse catalysis effect.
