Valuation of contingent claims with short selling bans under an equal-risk pricing framework

This paper studies the valuation of European contingent claims with short selling bans under the equal risk pricing (ERP) framework proposed in Guo and Zhu (2017) where analytical pricing formulae were derived in the case of monotonic payoffs under risk-neutral measures. We establish a unified framework for this new pricing approach so that its range of application can be significantly expanded. The results of Guo and Zhu (2017) are extended to the case of non-monotonic payoffs (such as a butterfly spread option) under risk-neutral measures. We also provide numerical schemes for computing equal-risk prices under other measures such as the original physical measure. Furthermore, we demonstrate how short selling bans can affect the valuation of contingent claims by comparing equal-risk prices with Black-Scholes prices.

Continuous time mean-variance-utility portfolio problem and its equilibrium strategy

In this paper, we propose a new class of optimization problems, which maximize the terminal wealth and accumulated consumption utility subject to a mean variance criterion controlling the final risk of the portfolio. The multiple-objective optimization problem is firstly transformed into a single-objective one by introducing the concept of overall "happiness" of an investor defined as the aggregation of the terminal wealth under the mean-variance criterion and the expected accumulated utility, and then solved under a game theoretic framework. We have managed to maintain analytical tractability; the closed-form solutions found for a set of special utility functions enable us to discuss some interesting optimal investment strategies that have not been revealed before in literature.

Mean-variance-utility portfolio selection with time and state dependent risk aversion

Under mean-variance-utility framework, we propose a new portfolio selection model, which allows wealth and time both have influences on risk aversion in the process of investment. We solved the model under a game theoretic framework and analytically derived the equilibrium investment (consumption) policy. The results conform with the facts that optimal investment strategy heavily depends on the investor's wealth and future income-consumption balance as well as the continuous optimally consumption process is highly dependent on the consumption preference of the investor.

Robust portfolio optimization with multi-factor stochastic volatility

This paper studies a robust portfolio optimization problem under the multi-factor volatility model introduced by Christoffersen et al. (2009). The optimal strategy is derived analytically under the worst-case scenario with or without derivative trading. To illustrate the effects of ambiguity, we compare our optimal robust strategy with some strategies that ignore the information of uncertainty, and provide the corresponding welfare analysis. The effects of derivative trading to the optimal portfolio selection are also discussed by considering alternative strategies. Our study is further extended to the cases with jump risks in asset price and correlated volatility factors, respectively. Numerical experiments are provided to demonstrate the behavior of the optimal portfolio and utility loss.

Pricing Parisian down-and-in options

In this paper, we price American-style Parisian down-and-in call options under the Black-Scholes framework. Usually, pricing an American-style option is much more difficult than pricing its European-style counterpart because of the appearance of the optimal exercise boundary in the former. Fortunately, the optimal exercise boundary associated with an American-style Parisian knock-in option only appears implicitly in its pricing partial differential equation (PDE) systems, instead of explicitly as in the case of an American-style Parisian knock-out option. We also recognize that the "moving window" technique developed for pricing European-style Parisian up-and-out options can be adopted to price American-style Parisian knock-in options as well. In particular, we obtain a simple analytical solution for American-style Parisian down-and-in call options and our new formula is written in terms of four double integrals, which can be easily computed numerically.

An exact and explicit formula for pricing lookback options with regime switching

This paper investigates the pricing of European-style lookback options when the price dynamics of the underlying risky asset are assumed to follow a Markov-modulated Geo-metric Brownian motion; that is, the appreciation rate and the volatility of the underlying risky asset depend on unobservable states of the economy described by a continuous-time hidden Markov chain process. We derive an exact, explicit and closed-form solution for European-style lookback options in a two-state regime switching model.
