Signatures from the observed jet power and the radiative efficiency for rotating black holes in loop quantum gravity

We investigate the radiative efficiency and jet power in the spacetime of a rotating black hole within the framework of loop quantum gravity (LQG), which includes an additional LQG parameter. The results show that as the LQG parameter increases, the radiative efficiency decreases for slowly rotating black holes while it increases for rapidly rotating black holes. Furthermore, the jet power is found to increase for different black hole spins. With the observed data from the well-known sources A0620-00, H1743-322, XTE J1550-564, GRS1124-683, GRO J1655-40, and GRS1915+105, we make some constraints on the black hole spin parameter and the LQG parameter. The presence of the LQG parameter broadens the allowed range of the black hole spin parameter for sources A0620-00, H1743-322, XTE J1550-564 and GRO J1655-40. However, for the source GRS 1915+105, there is no overlap between the allowed parameter regions, which implies that the rotating LQG black hole cannot simultaneously account for the observed jet power and the radiative efficiency as in other black hole spacetimes.

Long-time signatures of chaos in large atom-light frequency ratios Rabi model

As one of the famous effects in quantum Rabi model (QRM), Rabi oscillation may lead to the occurrence of quantum dynamics behaviors without classical dynamic counterparts, such as quantum collapse and revival effects. In this paper, we focus on studying the long-time quantum signatures of chaos in the large atom-light frequency ratios Rabi model. It is shown that the saturated values of the entanglement entropy for initial states located in chaotic sea are higher than that in the regular regions, and the Husimi Q function are more dispersed in phase space. Moreover, we observed that the long-time average entanglement entropy and spin variance correspond well with the semiclassical phase space. Our results imply that the correspondence principle does not invalidated by quantum collapse and revival effects in the large atom-light frequency ratios Rabi model.

Images of Kerr-MOG black holes surrounded by geometrically thick magnetized equilibrium tori

We adopt general relativistic ray-tracing (GRRT) schemes to study images of Kerr-MOG black holes surrounded by geometrically thick magnetized equilibrium tori, which belong to steady-state solutions of thick accretion disks within the framework of general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (GRMHD). The black hole possesses an extra dimensionless MOG parameter described its deviation from usual Kerr one. Our results show that the presence of the MOG parameter leads to smaller disks in size, but enhances the total flux density and peak brightness in their images. Combining with observation data of black hole M87* from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), we make a constraint on parameters of the Kerr-MOG black hole and find that the presence of the MOG parameter broadens the allowable range of black hole spin.

Constraining a disformal Schwarzschild black hole in DHOST theories with the orbit of the S2 star

With the observed data of the S2 orbit around the black hole Sgr A$^*$ and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we make a constraint on parameters of a disformal Schwarzschild black hole in quadratic degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor (DHOST) theories. This black hole belongs to a class of non-stealth solutions and owns an extra disformal parameter described the deviation from general relativity. Our results show that the best fit value of the disformal parameter is positive. However, in the range of $1\sigma$, we also find that general relativity remains to be consistent with the observation of the S2 orbit.

Kerr black hole shadows from the axion-photon coupling

We have investigated the motion for photons in the Kerr black hole spacetime under the axion-photon coupling. The birefringence phenomena arising from the axion-photon coupling can be negligible in the weak coupling approximation because the leading-order contributions to the equations of motion come from the square term of the coupling parameter. We find that the coupling parameter makes the size of shadows slightly increase for arbitrary spin parameter. For the rapid rotating black hole case with a larger coupling, we find that there exist a pedicel-like structure appeared in the left of the D-type like shadows.Comparing the shadow size of the Kerr black hole with the shadow size of the Sgr A* and M87* black holes, we find that there is room for such a theoretical model of the axion-photon coupling.

Chaotic motion of scalar particle coupling to Chern-Simons invariant in the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell dilaton black hole spacetime

We investigate the motion of a test scalar particle coupling to the Chern-Simons (CS) invariant in the background of a stationary axisymmetric black hole in the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion (EMDA) gravity. Comparing with the case of a Kerr black hole, we observe that the presence of the dilation parameter makes the CS invariant more complex, and changes the range of the coupling parameter and the spin parameter where the chaotic motion appears for the scalar particle. Moreover, we find that the coupling parameter together with the spin parameter also affects the range of the dilation parameter where the chaos occurs. We also probe the effects of the dilation parameter on the chaotic strength of the chaotic orbits for the coupled particle. Our results indicate that the coupling between the CS invariant and the scalar particle yields the richer dynamical behavior of the particle in the rotating EMDA black hole spacetime.

Kerr black hole shadows cast by extraordinary light rays with Weyl corrections

We investigate the equation of motion for photons with Weyl corrections in a Kerr black hole spacetime in a small coupling case. Our results show that Weyl corrections yield phenomena of birefringence. The light rays propagating in the spacetime are separated into the ordinary rays and the extraordinary rays, and the propagation of the latter depends on the corrections. We probe the effects of Weyl corrections on the Kerr black hole shadows casted by the extraordinary rays and find that such corrections result in a weak stretching or squeezing in the vertical direction for the black hole shadows. Finally, we also study the change of the length of the Near-Horizon Extremal Kerr line (NHEK line) with Weyl corrections. These features could help us to understand the electrodynamics with Weyl corrections from black hole shadows.

Thick accretion disk configurations around a compact object in the brane-world scenario

We have studied equipotential surfaces of a thick accretion disk around a Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati (CFM) compact object in the brane-world scenario, which owns a mass parameter together with a parameterized post-newtonian (PPN) parameter. With the increase of the PPN parameter, the size of the thick accretion disk decreases, but the corresponding Roche lobe size increases. Thus, the larger PPN parameter yields the larger region of existing bound disk structures where the fluid is not accreted into the central wormhole. Moreover, with the increase of the PPN parameter, the position of the Roche lobe gradually moves away from the central compact object, the thickness of the region enclosed by the Roche lobe decreases near the compact object, but increases in the region far from the compact object. Our results also show that the pressure gradient in the disk decreases with the PPN parameter. These effects of the PPN parameter on thick accretion disk could help to further understand compact objects in brane-world scenario.

The ring-shaped shadow of rotating naked singularity with a complete photon sphere

We investigate the shadows of Konoplya-Zhidenko naked singularity. In the spacetime of Konoplya-Zhidenko naked singularity, not only can unstable retrograde light ring (LR) exist, but also unstable prograde LR, leading to the formation of a complete photon sphere (PS). Due to the absence of an event horizon, a dark disc-shaped shadow does not appear; instead, a ring-shaped shadow is observed. The ring-shaped shadow appears as an infinite number of relativistic Einstein rings in the image of the naked singularity. For some parameter values, only the unstable retrograde LR exists, resulting in an incomplete unstable PS and consequently giving rise to the arc-shaped shadow for Konoplya-Zhidenko naked singularity. The shadow of Konoplya-Zhidenko naked singularity gradually shifts to the right as the rotation parameter $a$ increases, and gradually becomes smaller as the deformation parameter $|\eta|$ increases. Moreover, the stable LRs and stable photon spherical orbits can also exist in Konoplya-Zhidenko naked singularity spacetime, but they have no effect on the image of the naked singularity. This study demonstrates that rotating naked singularity can exhibit not only an arc-shaped shadow but also a ring-shaped shadow.

Geometrically thick equilibrium tori around a dyonic black hole with quasi-topological electromagnetism

We study geometrically thick and non-self gravitating equilibrium tori orbiting a static spherically symmetric dyonic black hole with quasi-topological electromagnetism. Our results show that the electric and magnetic charges together with the coupling parameter in the quasi-topological electromagnetism lead to a much richer class of equilibrium tori. There are a range of parameters which allow for the existence of double tori. The properties of double equilibrium tori become far richer. There exist transitions between single torus and double tori solutions as we change the specific angular momentum of the fluid. These properties of equilibrium tori could help to understand the dyonic black hole and its thick accretion disk.

Quantum Signatures of Chaos in Anisotropic Quantum Rabi Model

Quantum chaos is an intriguing topic and has attracted a great deal of interests in quantum mechanics and black hole physics. Recently, the exponential growth of out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC) has been proposed to diagnose quantum chaos and verify the correspondence principle. Here, good correspondence is found between the linear entanglement entropy and the semiclassical phase space structures in the anisotropic quantum Rabi model. The Loschmidt echo in the chaotic sea decays more faster than that in the stable island. However, the OTOCs grow exponentially at early times for the initial states centered both in the chaotic and stable regions. The exponential growth of the OTOC is attributed to quantum collapse that provides a novel mechanism of yielding exponential growth of the OTOC in quantum systems. Moreover, the quantum collapse effect is more obvious for the initial states centered in the chaotic one. The results show that in the anisotropic quantum Rabi model, the linear entanglement entropy, and Loschmidt echo are more effective than OTOC for diagnosing quantum chaotic signals.

Polarized image of a rotating black hole surrounded by a cold dark matter halo

We have studied the polarized image of an equatorial emitting ring around a rotating black hole surrounded by a cold dark matter (CDM) halo. Results show that the CDM halo density has the similar effects of the halo's characteristic radius on the polarized image for the black hole. The effects of the CDM halo on the polarized image depend on the magnetic field configuration, the fluid velocity and the observed inclination. With the increase of the CDM halo parameters, the observed polarization intensity decreases when the magnetic field lies in equatorial plane, but in the case where the magnetic field is perpendicular to the equatorial plane, the change of the observed polarization intensity with CDM halo also depends on the position of the emitting point in the ring. The change of the electric vector position angle (EVPA) with the CDM halo becomes more complicated. Our results also show that the influence of the CDM halo on the polarized image is generally small, which are consistent with the effects of dark matter halo on black hole shadows. These results could help to further understand dark matter from black hole images.

Black hole images: A Review

In recent years, unprecedented progress has been achieved regarding black holes' observation through the electromagnetic channel. The images of the supermassive black holes M87$^{*}$ and Sgr A$^{*}$ released by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration provided direct visual evidence for their existence, which has stimulated further studies on various aspects of the compact celestial objects. Moreover, the information stored in these images provides a new way to understand the pertinent physical processes that occurred near the black holes, to test alternative theories of gravity, and to furnish insight into fundamental physics. In this review, we briefly summarize the recent developments on the topic. In particular, we elaborate on the features and formation mechanism of black hole shadows, the properties of black hole images illuminated by the surrounding thin accretion disk, and the corresponding polarization patterns. The potential applications of the relevant studies are also addressed.

Quantum instability and Ehrenfest time for an inverted harmonic oscillator

We investigate the classical-quantum correspondence in the inverted harmonic oscillator (IHO) system. It is shown that the out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) which the initial states are located at any position in the IHO system possess the same exponential growth rates (EGRs) as that at the saddle point, and their EGRs are twice the classical lyapunov exponent (CLE) of the saddle point. Through the time evolution of mean photon number and the OTOCs, we exhibit that the classical-quantum correspondence in the IHO system not only depends on the initial system photon number, but also on the central positions of the initial states in the phase space. Moreover, we use the Husimi Q function to visualize the quantum wave packets during the OTOCs grow exponentially.

Determination of the spin parameter and the inclination angle by the relativistic images in black hole image

We studied the relativistic images caused by strong gravitational lensing in Kerr black hole images, which carry some essential signatures about the black hole space-time. We defined a new celestial coordinates whose origin is the center of black hole shadow to locate the relativistic images. Under the influences of the dragging effect caused by rotating black hole and the inclination angle of observer, the relative positions between the primary and secondary images are different with the different Kerr spin parameter $a$ and the observer's inclination angle $i$, so it can be used to determine the value of $a$ and $i$. We provided the specific approach to measure the value of $a$ and $i$ by the relativistic images. The time delays between the primary and secondary images are different with the different $a$ and $i$. The time delays in conjunction with the relative positions between the primary and secondary images could allow us to measure the value of $a$ and $i$ more precisely. These relativistic images are as unique as fingerprints for black hole space-time, by which one can further determine other parameters of all kinds of compact objects and verify various theories of gravity. Our results provide a new method to implement parameter estimation in the study of black hole physics and astrophysics.

Polarized image of a rotating black hole in Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity theory

The polarized images of a synchrotron emitting ring are studied in the spacetime of a rotating black hole in the Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity (STVG) theory. The black hole owns an additional dimensionless MOG parameter described its deviation from Kerr black hole. The effects of the MOG parameter on the observed polarization vector and Strokes $Q-U$ loops depend heavily on the spin parameter, the magnetic field configuration, the fluid velocity and the observation inclination angle. For the fixed MOG parameter, the changes of the polarization vector in the image plane are similar to those in the Kerr black hole case. The comparison of the polarization images between Kerr-MOG black hole and M87* implies that there remains some possibility for the STVG-MOG theory.

Image of Bonnor black dihole with a thin accretion disk and its polarization information

We have studied the image of Bonnor black dihole surrounded by a thin accretion disk where the electromagnetic emission is assumed to be dominated respectively by black body radiation and synchrotron radiation. Our results show that the intensity of Bonnor black dihole image increases with the magnetic parameter and the inclination angle in both radiation models. The image of Bonnor black dihole in the synchrotron radiation model is one order of magnitude brighter than that in the black body radiation model, but its intensity in the former decreases more rapidly with the radial coordinate. Especially, for the synchrotron radiation model, the intensity of the secondary image is stronger than that of the direct image at certain an inclination angle. We also present the polarization patterns for the images of Bonnor black dihole arising from the synchrotron radiation, which depend sharply on the magnetic parameter and inclination angle. Finally, we make a comparison between the polarimetric images of Bonnor black dihole and M87*. Our result further confirms that the image of black hole depends on the black hole's properties itself, the matter around black hole and the corresponding radiation occurred in the accretion disk.

Chaotic Shadows of Black Holes: A Short Review

We give a brief review on the formation and the calculation of black hole shadow. Firstly, we introduce the conception of black hole shadow and the current works on a variety of black hole shadows. Secondly, we present main methods of calculating photon sphere radius and shadow radius, and then explain how the photon sphere affect the boundary of black hole shadow. We review the analytical calculation for black hole shadows which have analytic expressions for shadow boundary due to the integrable photon motion system. And we introduce the fundamental photon orbits which can explain the patterns of black hole shadow shape. Finally, we review the numerical calculation of black hole shadows with the backward ray-tracing method, and introduce some chaotic black hole shadows with self-similar fractal structures. Since the gravitational waves from the merger of binary black holes have been detected, we introduce a couple of shadows of binary black holes, which all have the eyebrowlike shadows around the main shadows with the fractal structures. We discuss the invariant phase space structures of photon motion system in black hole space-time, and explain the formation of black hole shadow is dominated by the invariant manifolds of certain Lyapunov orbits near the fixed points.
