Channel Measurement and Characteristics Analysis for Indoor Flexible Pinching Antenna Systems in the mmWave Band

Pinching antenna (PA) systems offer flexible antenna configurations for future wireless communications, yet how PA geometry, orientation, and position affect channel characteristics in practical environments remains insufficiently studied. To address this gap, this paper first presents an indoor PA system channel measurement campaign at 59.5~GHz. A dedicated time-domain channel sounder is developed with frequency conversion and a circular-waveguide-to-dielectric-waveguide transition to feed the radio frequency (RF) signal into a flexible dielectric waveguide. Using this platform, office measurements quantify channel attenuation and channel characteristics by examining four PA geometries, arc PA orientation, circle PA pinching position, and transmitter--receiver height difference. The channel measurement data are analyzed in terms of path loss, shadow fading, root-mean-square (RMS) delay spread, Rician K-factor, normalized capacity, and spatial similarity. Indoor path loss models for PA systems are fitted for each PA geometry. The results reveal geometry-dependent attenuation and shadow-fading variability, with the arc PA showing greater variability than the circle PA. Arc PA rotation shifts the delay spread and conditional K-factor distributions. Moving the circle PA produces nonmonotonic changes in delay spread and normalized capacity, while spatial similarity remains relatively high at many receiver locations as the pinching position changes. These observations provide an empirical basis for PA systems channel model and system design.

A Novel Dynamic Ray-Tracing Channel Model for 6G LEO Satellite-to-Ground Communication Systems

The sixth generation (6G) communication systems envision a space-air-ground integrated network, making accurate satellite-to-ground (S2G) channel modeling crucial for communication systems design. Currently, the majority of S2G channel models rely on stochastic methods, which cannot provide multipath information based on realistic satellite orbits and environments. In this paper, we propose a novel low Earth orbit (LEO) S2G channel model based on dynamic ray-tracing to overcome the challenges of tracking rays for long-distance propagation by setting a virtual transmission plane (VTP). Moreover, since the line-of-sight propagation mechanism contributes the most power to satellite communications, the VTP is constructed based on the first Fresnel zone to generate parallel rays close to the ground. The realistic satellite orbit and environmental information are used in the proposed LEO S2G ray-tracing channel model to compute channel characteristics. The results show that the proposed LEO S2G ray-tracing channel model can accurately generate the channel characteristics based on the satellite orbits. The channel characteristics of LEO S2G communications computed by the proposed ray-tracing method can well match the channel measurements.

High-Precision Hybrid FA-PSO Based Inversion of Building Material Parameters for Fundamental Wireless Performance Evaluation

In this paper, we propose an inversion method based on the firefly particle swarm optimization (FA-PSO) algorithm to estimate the permittivity, conductivity, and thickness of building materials using the free-space method. To improve convergence efficiency and robustness, an adaptive firefly algorithm (FA) is employed to systematically optimize the hyperparameters of the particle swarm optimization (PSO). By optimizing the parameters of the Gaussian distribution used for population initialization, the accuracy of parameter estimation is gradually improved. Furthermore, we derive the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for the permittivity, conductivity, and thickness under a complex Gaussian noise model, which serves as a theoretical benchmark for evaluating the estimation accuracy of the FA-PSO algorithm. Numerical results indicate that for relatively thin materials, the estimation accuracy of the proposed method approaches this theoretical lower bound, confirming the effectiveness of the inversion framework. This study accurately extracts the electromagnetic properties of building materials, providing strong support for evaluating their wireless performance.

Beam Domain Channel Estimation for Spatial Non-Stationary Massive MIMO Systems

In massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, the channel estimation scheme is subject to the spatial non-stationarity and inevitably power leakage in the beam domain. In this paper, a beam domain channel estimation scheme is investigated for spatial non-stationary (SNS) massive MIMO systems considering power leakage. %a novel beam domain channel estimation scheme is proposed for spatial non-stationary (SNS) massive MIMO systems. Specifically, a realistic massive MIMO beam domain channel model (BDCM) is introduced to capture the spatial non-stationarity considering power leakage by introducing the illustration of visibility region (VR). Then, a beam domain structure-based sparsity adaptive matching pursuit (BDS-SAMP) scheme is proposed based on the cross-block sparse structure and power ratio threshold of beam domain channel. Finally, the simulation results validate the accuracy of proposed BDS-SAMP scheme with low pilot overhead and reasonable complexity by comparing with conventional schemes.

An Efficient Pre-Processing Method for 6G Dynamic Ray-Tracing Channel Modeling

The ray-tracing is often employed in urban areas for channel modeling with high accuracy but encounters a substantial computational complexity for high mobility scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel pre-processing method for dynamic ray-tracing to reduce the computational burden in high-mobility scenarios by prepending the intersection judgment to the pre-processing stage. The proposed method generates an inter-visibility matrix that establishes visibility relationships among static objects in the environment considering the intersection judgment. Moreover, the inter-visibility matrix can be employed to create the inter-visibility table for mobile transmitters and receivers, which can improve the efficiency of constructing an image tree for the three-dimensional (3D) dynamic ray-tracing method. The results show that the proposed pre-processing method in dynamic ray-tracing has considerable time-saving compared with the traditional method while maintaining the same accuracy. The channel characteristics computed by the proposed method can well match to the channel measurements.

Ray-Tracing Channel Modeling for LEO Satellite-to-Ground Communication Systems

Based on the vision of global coverage for sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication systems, the low earth orbit (LEO) satellite-to-ground channel model for urban scenarios has emerged as highly important for the system design. In this paper, we propose an LEO satellite-to-ground channel model through shooting and bouncing rays (SBR) algorithm to analyze the channel characteristics. The orbit of LEO is modeled by the simplified general perturbations 4 (SGP4), and an accurate celestial model is applied to calculate the Doppler shift of multipath in a transmission time window of LEO satellite-to-ground communications. Channel characteristics of LEO satellite-to-ground communications such as the root-mean-square (RMS) delay spread, the Doppler shift, and the received power at different times are obtained. The simulation results show that the received power is only significantly noticeable in the transmission time window when the satellite is close to the receiver. Proposed model validates the effectiveness of ray-tracing in actual LEO satellite-to-ground communication scenarios and extends the calculation of the Doppler shift.

Adaptive Modulation for Wobbling UAV Air-to-Ground Links in Millimeter-wave Bands

The emerging millimeter-wave (mm-wave) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) air-to-ground (A2G) communications are facing the Doppler effect problem that arises from the inevitable wobbling of the UAV. The fast time-varying channel for UAV A2G communications may lead to the outdated channel state information (CSI) from the channel estimation. In this paper, we introduce two detectors to demodulate the received signal and get the instantaneous bit error probability (BEP) of a mm-wave UAV A2G link under imperfect CSI. Based on the designed detectors, we propose an adaptive modulation scheme to maximize the average transmission rate under imperfect CSI by optimizing the data transmission time subject to the maximum tolerable BEP. A power control policy is in conjunction with adaptive modulation to minimize the transmission power while maintaining both the BEP under the threshold and the maximized average transmission rate. Numerical results show that the proposed adaptive modulation scheme in conjunction with the power control policy could maximize the temporally averaged transmission rate, while saves as much as 50\% energy.

Impact of Rotary-Wing UAV Wobbling on Millimeter-wave Air-to-Ground Wireless Channel

Millimeter-wave rotary-wing (RW) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) air-to-ground (A2G) links face unpredictable Doppler effect arising from the inevitable wobbling of RW UAV. Moreover, the time-varying channel characteristics during transmission lead to inaccurate channel estimation, which in turn results in the deteriorated bit error probability performance of the UAV A2G link. This paper studies the impact of mechanical wobbling on the Doppler effect of the millimeter-wave wireless channel between a hovering RW UAV and a ground node. Our contributions of this paper lie in: i) modeling the wobbling process of a hovering RW UAV; ii) developing an analytical model to derive the channel temporal autocorrelation function (ACF) for the millimeter-wave RW UAV A2G link in a closed-form expression; and iii) investigating how RW UAV wobbling impacts the Doppler effect on the millimeter-wave RW UAV A2G link. Numerical results show that different RW UAV wobbling patterns impact the amplitude and the frequency of ACF oscillation in the millimeter-wave RW UAV A2G link. For UAV wobbling, the channel temporal ACF decreases quickly and the impact of the Doppler effect is significant on the millimeter-wave A2G link.
