From Gradient-Boosted Trees to Deep Recommenders: Practical Lessons from Migrating a Production Customer Support Recommender

Product catalogs in fast-moving service businesses are shifting from static, independently priced SKUs toward dynamically bundled, discount-coupled offerings--a shift that strains the tree-based classifiers traditionally preferred for sparse and highly imbalanced data. These classifiers assume a fixed, slowly changing label space and struggle to incorporate multimodal signals such as tabular data and transcripts. We present the migration of a live, production conversational recommendation system from a gradient-boosted multiclass model to a pairwise-binary deep recommender. Because this system is critical to ecosystem growth initiatives and downstream features like dynamic pitching--surfacing the most relevant pitch text to a support agent in real time during a live customer conversation--maintaining live recommendation quality was a non-negotiable constraint. We detail the techniques that made this migration successful--reformulating recommendation as pairwise binary prediction to learn jointly from user and item features, and enhancing learned representations via negative sampling and noise injection. To efficiently incorporate long, live conversation context, we apply attention pooling over transcript chunks and benchmark it against TF-IDF and sentence-embedding baselines. Finally, we explore multiple architectures (including two-tower models, DeepFM, and their variants) and loss functions such as contrastive loss. Evaluating against a CatBoost baseline across all conversational stages, we demonstrate that our approach achieves parity at conversation beginning and outperforms at later conversational stages.

Directed Non-Targeted Mass Spectrometry and Chemical Networking for Discovery of Eicosanoids

Eicosanoids and related species are critical, small bioactive mediators of human physiology and inflammation. While ~1100 distinct eicosanoids have been predicted to exist, to date, less than 150 of these molecules have been measured in humans, limiting our understanding of eicosanoids and their role in human biology. Using a directed non-targeted mass spectrometry approach in conjunction with computational chemical networking of spectral fragmentation patterns, we find over 500 discrete chemical signals highly consistent with known and putative eicosanoids in human plasma, including 46 putative novel molecules not previously described, thereby greatly expanding the breath of prior analytical strategies. In plasma samples from 1500 individuals, we find members of this expanded eicosanoid library hold close association with markers of inflammation, as well as clinical characteristics linked with inflammation, including advancing age and obesity. These experimental and computational approaches enable discovery of new chemical entities and will shed important insight into the role of bioactive molecules in human disease.

On positivity and roots in operator algebras

In earlier papers the second author and Charles Read have introduced and studied a new notion of positivity for operator algebras, with an eye to extending certain C*-algebraic results and theories to more general algebras. The present paper consists of complements to some facts in the just mentioned papers, concerning this notion of positivity. For example we prove a result on the numerical range of products of the roots of commuting operators with numerical range in a sector.

Polytropic bulk viscous cosmological model with variable G and Λ

We consider a Bianchi type-I Polytropic bulk viscous fluid cosmological model with variable G and Λ. To get a deterministic model, we assume some conditions of A, B, C, and polytropic relation to find the results. physical significance of the cosmological models have also been discussed.

Real Operator Algebras and Real Completely Isometric Theory

This paper is a continuation of the program started by Ruan in 2003, of developing real operator space theory. In particular, we develop the theory of real operator algebras. We also show among other things that the injective envelope, C*-envelope and non-commutative Shilov boundary exist for a real operator space. We develop real one-sided M-ideal theory and characterize one-sided M-ideals in real C*-algebras and real operator algebras with contractive approximate identity.

Ideals and structure of operator algebras

We continue the study of r-ideals, l-ideals, and HSA's in operator algebras. Some applications are made to the structure of operator algebras, including Wedderburn type theorems for a class of operator algebras. We also consider the one-sided $M$-ideal structure of certain tensor products of operator algebras.

Operator spaces which are one-sided M-Ideals in their bidual

We generalize an important class of Banach spaces, namely the $M$-embedded Banach spaces, to the non-commutative setting of operator spaces. The one-sided $M$-embedded operator spaces are the operator spaces which are one-sided $M$-ideals in their second dual. We show that several properties from the classical setting, like the stability under taking subspaces and quotients, unique extension property, Radon Nikod$\acute {\rm{y}}$m Property and many more, are retained in the non-commutative setting. We also discuss the dual setting of one-sided $L$-embedded operator spaces.
