$k$-step nilpotent symplectic Lie algebras associated with graphs

We construct families of $k$-step nilpotent symplectic Lie algebras associated with graphs, extending the construction given in [Pouseele-Tirao, JPAA 213 (2009)] for the 2-step case. We also show that, under mild conditions on the nilpotency type, there exist symplectic Lie algebras of that type.

Complex structures on 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras arising from graphs

This work investigates the existence of complex structures on 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras arising from finite graphs. We introduce the notion of adapted complex structure, namely a complex structure that maps vertices and edges of the graph to vertices and edges, and we analyze in depth the restrictions imposed by the integrability condition. We completely characterize the graphs that admit abelian adapted complex structures, showing that they belong to a small family of graphs that we call basic. We prove that any graph endowed with an adapted complex structure $J$ contains a unique $J$-invariant basic spanning subgraph, and conversely, that every such graph can be constructed through a systematic expansion procedure starting from a basic graph. We also explore geometric and combinatorial consequences, including the existence of special Hermitian metrics as well as other graph-theoretic properties.

Deformations of semi-direct products

We exhibit in this article a contraction of the direct product Lie algebra $g\oplus g$ of a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra $g$ onto the semi-direct product Lie algebra $g\rtimes g$, where the first factor $g$ is viewed as a trivial Lie algebra and as the adjoint $g$-module. This contraction gives rise to a non-zero cohomology class in the second cohomology space. We generalize to the setting of $h\oplus g$ and $h\rtimes g$ with respect to a given crossed module of Lie algebras $h\to g$. We give many examples to illustrate our results.

Degenerations to filiform Lie algebras of dimension 9

For most complex 9-dimensional filiform Lie algebra we find another non isomorphic Lie algebra that degenerates to it. Since this is already known for nilpotent Lie algebras of rank $\geq 1$, only the characteristically nilpotent ones should be considered.

A distinguished example of filiform deformation

We exhibit an example of a filiform (complex) Lie algebra of dimension 13 with all its ideals of codimension 1 being characteristically nilpotent, and we construct a non trivial filiform deformation of it.

There are no rigid filiform Lie algebras of low dimension

We prove that there are no rigid complex filiform Lie algebras in the variety of (filiform) Lie algebras of dimension less than or equal to 11. More precisely we show that in any Euclidean neighborhood of a filiform Lie bracket (of low dimension), there is a non-isomorphic filiform Lie bracket. This follows by constructing non trivial linear deformations in a Zariski open dense set of the variety of filiform Lie algebras of dimension 9, 10 and 11. (In lower dimensions this is well known.)
