Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing at future colliders

Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing occurs in a supersymmetric model where neutrinos have nonzero Majorana masses. This can lead to the sneutrino decaying into a final state with a "wrong-sign charged lepton". In an $e^- γ$ collider, the signal of the associated production of an electron-sneutrino and the lighter chargino and their subsequent decays can be $e^- γ\to e^+ {\tilde τ}_1^- {\tilde τ}_1^- + \mpT$ where the ${\tilde τ}_1$s are long-lived and can produce heavily ionizing charged tracks. This signal is free of any Standard Model background, and the supersymmetric backgrounds are small. Such a signal can be experimentally observable under certain conditions which are possible to obtain in an anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. Information on a particular combination of the neutrino masses and mixing angles can also be extracted through the observation of this signal. Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing at the LHC is currently under study, and asymmetry considerations seem promising there.

Lepton flavour violation in future linear colliders in the long-lived stau NLSP scenario

We analyze the prospects of observing lepton flavour violation in future e-e- and e+e- linear colliders in scenarios where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle, and the stau is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. The signals consist of multilepton final states with two heavily ionizing charged tracks produced by the long-lived staus. The Standard Model backgrounds are very small and the supersymmetric backgrounds can be kept well under control by the use of suitable kinematical cuts. We discuss in particular the potential of the projected International Linear Collider to discover lepton flavour violation in this class of scenarios, and we compare the estimated sensitivity with the constraints stemming from the non-observation of rare decays.

Phenomenology of non-universal gaugino masses and implications for the Higgs boson decay

Grand unified theories (GUTs) can lead to non-universal gaugino masses at the unification scale. We study the implications of such non-universal gaugino masses for the composition of the lightest neutralino in supersymmetric (SUSY) theories based on SU(5) gauge group. We also consider the phenomenological implications of non-universal gaugino masses for the phenomenology of Higgs bosons in the context of Large Hadron Collider.

Signals of sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing in an $e^- γ$ collider in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking

Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing occurs in a supersymmetric model where neutrinos have nonzero Majorana masses. This can lead to the sneutrino decaying into a final state with a "wrong-sign charged lepton". Hence, in an $e^- γ$ collider, the signal of the associated production of an electron-sneutrino and the lighter chargino and their subsequent decays can be $e^- γ\to e^+ {\tilde τ}_1^- {\tilde τ}_1^- + \mpT$ where the ${\tilde τ}_1$s are long-lived and can produce heavily ionizing charged tracks. This signal is free of any Standard Model background and the supersymmetric backgrounds are small. Such a signal can be experimentally observable under certain conditions which are possible to obtain in an anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. Information on a particular combination of the neutrino masses and mixing angles can also be extracted through the observation of this signal. Possible modifications in the signal event and the accompanying Standard Model background have been discussed when the ${\tilde τ}_1$s decay promptly.

Phenomenology of non-universal gaugino masses in supersymmetric grand unified theories

Grand unified theories can lead to non-universal boundary conditions for the gaugino masses at the unification scale. We consider the implications of such non-universal boundary conditions for the composition of the lightest neutralino as well as for the upper bound on its mass in the simplest supersymmetric grand unified theory based on the SU(5) gauge group. We derive sum rules for neutralino and chargino masses in different representations of SU(5) which lead to different non-universal boundary conditions for the gaugino masses at the unification scale. We also consider the phenomenological implications of the non-universal gaugino masses arising from a grand unified theory in the context of Large Hadron Collider. In particular we investigate the detection of heavy neutral Higgs bosons $H^0, A^0$ from $H^0, A^0 \to \tildeχ_2^0 \tildeχ_2^0 \to 4l $, and study the possibilities of detecting the neutral Higgs bosons in cascade decays, including the decays $\tildeχ_i^0 \to h^0 (H^0, A^0) \tildeχ_1^0 \to b\bar{b} \tildeχ_1^0$.

Infrared fixed point of the top Yukawa coupling in split supersymmetry

The severe constraints imposed on the parameter space of the minimal split supersymmetry model by the infrared fixed point solution of the top Yukawa coupling $Y_t$ are studied in detail in terms of the value of the top quark mass measured at the Tevatron together with the lower bound on the lightest Higgs mass established by LEP. The sensitive dependence of the higgsino mass parameter $μ$ and of the gaugino coupling strengths ${\tilde g}_{u,d}$, ${\tilde g}^\prime_{u,d}$ on the value of $Y_t$ in the vicinity of the Landau pole is a remarkable consequence. A few other interesting features emerge, though the model is found to be disfavored within the infrared fixed point scenario because of the need to have several fine tunings at work on account of the requirement of a low upper bound on $\tanβ$.

Higher dimensional models of light Majorana neutrinos confronted by data

We discuss experimental and observational constraints on certain models of higher dimensional light Majorana neutrinos. Models with flavor blind brane-bulk couplings plus three or four flavor diagonal light Majorana neutrinos on the brane, with subsequent mixing induced solely by the Kaluza-Klein tower of states, are found to be excluded by data on the oscillations of solar, atmospheric and reactor neutrinos, taken together with the WMAP upper bound on the sum of neutrino masses. Extra dimensions, if relevant to neutrino mixing, need to discriminate between neutrino flavors.

Single sneutrino production at hadron colliders

We study the production of a single sneutrino in association with one or two $b$-quarks at hadron colliders, in the framework of an R-parity violating supersymmetric model. We find that at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) four $b$ final states are promising with efficient b-tagging. $l^+l'^-$ decay modes of the sneutrino can also be viable for detection at the LHC. However, the branching ratio for rare $γγ$ decay channel is too small to be seen.

Light GUT Triplets and Yukawa Splitting

Triplet-mediated proton decay in Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) is usually suppressed by arranging a large triplet mass. Here we explore instead a mechanism for suppressing the couplings of the triplets to the first and second generations compared to the Yukawa couplings, so that the triplets' mass can be below the GUT scale. This mechanism is based on a ``triplet symmetry'' in the context of product-group GUTs. We study two possibilities. One, which requires the top Yukawa to arise from a non-renormalizable operator at the GUT scale, is that all triplet couplings to matter are negligible, so that the triplets can be at the weak scale. The second is that some triplet couplings, and in particular $T t b$ and $T \bar{t} \bar{l}$, are equal to the corresponding Yukawa couplings. This would give a distinct signature of grand unification if the triplets were sufficiently light. However, we derive a model-independent bound on the triplet mass in this case, which is at least 10$^6$GeV. Finally, we construct a GUT model based on Yukawa splitting, with the triplets at 10$^{14}$GeV, as required for coupling unification to work.

Effective R-parity violation from supersymmetry breaking

We present a scenario in which Yukawa-like R-parity violating (RPV) couplings are naturally suppressed. In our framework, RPV is assumed to originate from the SUSY breaking mechanism and then transmitted into the SUSY Lagrangian only through soft SUSY breaking operators in the scalar potential. The RPV Yukawa-like operators of the superpotential, conventionally parametrized by the couplings λ, λ' and λ'', are then generated through loops containing the SUSY scalars, the gauginos and the soft RPV interactions and are, therefore, manifest as effective operators with a typical strength of order 10^{-3}.

Anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking and its test in linear colliders

Signatures of anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking in linear colliders are briefly reviewed after presenting an outline of the theoretical framework. A unique and distinct feature of a large class of models of this type is a winolike chargino which is very closely degenerate in mass with the lightest neutralino. The very slow decay of this chargino results in a heavily ionizing charged track and one soft charged pion with a characteristic momentum distribution, leading to unique signals in linear colliders which are essentially free of background. The determination of chargino and slepton masses from such events is a distinctly interesting possibility.

Signals of anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking in an e^- gamma collider

We study the signatures of minimal anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking in an e^- gamma collider. We demonstrate that the associated production of a sneutrino with the lightest chargino leads to a substantially large signal size. The background is negligibly small, though. Even more interestingly, a measurement of the fundamental supersymmetry breaking parameters could be possible.

Effects of initial axion production and photon--axion oscillation on type Ia supernova dimming

Recently, Csaki, Kaloper and Terning (CKT) suggested that axion-photon oscillation in the intergalactic medium can explain the observed dimming of distant type Ia supernovae. This mechanism works only if the initial axion flux is much smaller than the initial photon flux. We study several mechanisms for such initial axion production. The direct axion production in the supernovae, the photon-axion oscillation in the magnetic field of supernovae and in the magnetic field of their host galaxies are addressed. We find it likely that the initial axion flux is very small and therefore does not pose a problem to the CKT mechanism.

Vacuum stability bounds in Anomaly and Gaugino Mediated SUSY breaking models

We constrain the parameter space of the minimal and gaugino-assisted anomaly mediation, and gaugino mediation models by requiring that the electroweak vacuum corresponds to the deepest minimum of the scalar potential. In the framework of anomaly mediation models we find strong lower bounds on slepton and squark masses. In the gaugino mediation models the mass spectrum is forced to be at the TeV scale. We find extensive regions of the parameter space which are ruled out, even at low tan(beta). The implications of these results on the g-2 of the muon are also analyzed.

Characteristic Wino Signals in a Linear Collider from Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

Though the minimal model of anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking has been significantly constrained by recent experimental and theoretical work, there are still allowed regions of the parameter space for moderate to large values of $\tanβ$. We show that these regions will be comprehensively probed in a ${\sqrt s} =1$ TeV $e^+e^-$ linear collider. Diagnostic signals to this end are studied by zeroing in on a unique and distinct feature of a large class of models in this genre: a neutral winolike Lightest Supersymmetric Particle closely degenerate in mass with a winolike chargino. The pair production processes $e^+e^- \to {\tilde e}_L^\pm {\tilde e}_L^\mp$, ${\tilde e}_R^\pm {\tilde e}_R^\mp$, ${\tilde e}_L^\pm {\tilde e}_R^\mp$, ${\tilde ν} {\bar {\tilde ν}}$, $\widetilde χ^0_1 \widetilde χ^0_2$, $\widetilde χ^0_2 \widetilde χ^0_2$ are all considered at $\sqrt s = 1$ TeV corresponding to the proposed TESLA linear collider in two natural categories of mass ordering in the sparticle spectra. The signals analysed comprise multiple combinations of fast charged leptons (any of which can act as the trigger) plus displaced vertices $X_D$ (any of which can be identified by a heavy ionizing track terminating in the detector) and/or associated soft pions with characteristic momentum distributions.
