Genus three Ceresa cycles and limit of archimedean heights

For a one-parameter variation of biextension mixed Hodge structures, Brosnan and Pearlstein showed that the limit of the asymptotic height of the variation is given by a certain limit height of the nilpotent orbit. This limit height depends on the choice of a parameter. In the case of a variation of geometric origin related to Ceresa cycles associated with curves of genus three, after fixing a parameter, we show that this limit height is given by the Deligne splitting of a biextension mixed Hodge structure associated with cycles in the boundary.

Arithmetic Cycles with Modulus

We add analytic components to algebraic cycles with modulus and define an arithmetic Chow group with modulus that resembles the classical arithmetic Chow groups by Gillet and Soul\'e. The analytic component is dictated by imposing a vanishing condition on the cohomology class of a cycle with modulus. We prove several natural properties of this group as a consequence.

Higher Arithmetic Intersection Theory

We give a new definition of higher arithmetic Chow groups for smooth projective varieties defined over a number field, which is similar to Gillet and Soulé's definition of arithmetic Chow groups. We also give a compact description of the intersection theory of such groups. A consequence of this theory is the definition of a height pairing between two higher algebraic cycles, of complementary dimensions, whose real regulator class is zero. This description agrees with Beilinson's height pairing for the classical arithmetic Chow groups. We also give examples of the higher arithmetic intersection pairing in dimension zero that, assuming a conjecture by Milnor on the independence of the values of the dilogarithm, are non zero.

The Business of Height Pairings

In algebraic geometry there is the notion of a height pairing of algebraic cycles, which lies at the confluence of arithmetic, Hodge theory and topology. After explaining a motivating example situation, we introduce new directions in this subject.
