Do new data on [B+ -> tau+ nu_tau] decays point to an early discovery of supersymmetry at the LHC?

The recent Belle and BaBar measurements of the branching ratio of $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ indicate a significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction. We demonstrate that this measurement has a serious impact on models with minimal flavor violation involving a charged Higgs boson, ruling out a large portion of the currently-allowed parameter space. In the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model, this creates a tension between the measurements of $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, unless $\tanβ$ is small, $μ> 0$, and $A_0$ takes a large negative value. In fact, a very small region of the parameter space of this model, with small values of $m_0$ and $m_{1/2}$, survives all the constraints at 95% C.L.. It is remarkable that this specific region is still consistent with the lightest supersymmetric particle as the dark matter. Moreover, it predicts observable SUSY signals in the early runs of the LHC, even perhaps at 7 TeV. We also show that a consistent explanation for the deviation of the $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ branching ratio from the Standard Model can be achieved in a non-universal Higgs mass model, which could also predict early signals of supersymmetry at the LHC.

Boosted Top Quark Signals for Heavy Vector Boson Excitations in a Universal Extra Dimension Model

In view of the fact that the $n = 1$ Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in a model with a Universal Extra Dimension (UED), could mimic supersymmetry signatures at the LHC, it is necessary to look for the $n = 2$ KK modes, which have no analogues in supersymmetry. We discuss the possibility of searching for heavy $n = 2$ vector boson resonances -- especially the $g_2$ -- through their decays to a highly-boosted top quark-antiquark pair using recently-developed top-jet tagging techniques in the hadronic channel. It is shown that $t\bar{t}$ signals from the $n = 2$ gluon resonance are as efficient a discovery mode at the LHC as dilepton channels from the $γ_2$ and $Z_2$ resonances.

Multijet Discriminators for New Physics in Leptonic Signals at the LHC

Some of the cleanest signals for new physics in the early runs of the LHC will involve strongly-produced particles which give rise to multiple leptons by undergoing cascade decays through weakly-interacting states to stable particles. Some of the most spectacular final states will involve three or more leptons, multiple jets and generally missing energy-momentum as well. A triad of the most interesting models of new physics which induce such signals is known to consist of (i) supersymmetry with R-parity conservation, (ii) a universal extra dimension with conservation of KK-parity and (iii) little Higgs models with conserved T-parity. Similar signals could also arise if the Standard Model is augmented with a fourth sequential generation of heavy fermions. We study all these possibilities and show that a judiciously chosen set of observables, critically involving the number of identifiable jets and leptons, can collectively provide distinct footprints for each of these models. In fact, simple pairwise correlation of such observables can enable unambiguous identification of the underlying model, even with a relatively small data sample.

Graviton Resonances in E+ E- -> MU+ MU- at Linear Colliders with Beamstrahlung and ISR Effects

Electromagnetic radiation emitted by the colliding beams is expected to play an important role at the next generation of high energy e^+ e^- linear collider(s). Focusing on the simplest process e+e- -> mu+ mu-, we show that radiative effects like initial state radiation (ISR) and beamstrahlung can lead to greatly-enhanced signals for resonant graviton modes of the Randall-Sundrum model.

Using Invisible Graviton Radiation to Detect Heavy Electroweak Resonances at a 500 GeV e+e- Collider

The process e+e- --> mu+ mu- + missing E_T, where the missing energy is due to the production of a tower of invisible graviton states in a model with large extra dimensions, is considered. We focus on the scenario when this process is used to detect a heavy dileptonic resonance in the electroweak sector of the model, taking as example some models with an extra Z' boson. It turns out that at a 500 GeV machine with 1000 inverse fb of luminosity, it may be possible to use this process to such detect resonances if there are two large extra dimensions and the string scale is not too far above a TeV.

Tagging Sneutrino Resonances at a Linear Collider with Associated Photons

Sneutrino resonances at a high energy linear e+e- collider may be one of the clearest signals of supersymmetry without R-parity, especially when the R-parity-violating coupling is too small to produce observable excesses in four-fermion processes. However, there is no guarantee that the sneutrino pole will lie anywhere near the machine energy. We show that associated photon production induces the necessary energy spread, and that the resonance then leaves a clear imprint in the photon spectrum. It follows that tagging of a hard mono-energetic photon for a variety of possible final states provides a realistic method of separating sneutrino resonance signals from the Standard Model backgrounds.

Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon in a Composite Model

We make a fresh evaluation of contributions to (g-2) of the muon in the framework of a preonic model with coloured vectorlike leptons and heavy coloured Z bosons and discuss their implications in the light of the recent Brookhaven measurement. It is shown that the observed deviation can be explained within this framework with masses and couplings consistent with all constraints.

On Distinguishing Radions From Higgs Bosons

Radion couplings are almost identical to Higgs boson couplings, making it very difficult to distinguish the two states when the radion mass and vacuum expectation value are similar to those of the Higgs boson. The only real difference lies in the fact that the coupling of radions to off-shell fermions is proportional to the momentum rather than the mass of the fermion. This extra contribution gets cancelled in all tree-level processes and shows up only in loop-induced processes like Phi -> gamma gamma and Phi -> gg. We perform a careful calculation of the branching ratios and establish that they can prove crucial in clearly distinguishing a radion from a Higgs boson. This claim is made concrete by evaluating the exclusive cross-sections in a radiative process involving elementary scalars.

Single Photon Signals for Warped Quantum Gravity at a Linear e+-e- Collider

We study the `single photon' process e+- e- -> gamma nu nubar with contributions due to exchange of massive gravitons in the Randall- Sundrum model of low-scale quantum gravity. It is shown that for significant regions in the parameter space, this process unambiguously highlights the resonance structure of the graviton sector. Even in the non-resonant part of the parameter space, we show that comparison with the benchmark process e+- e- -> mu+- mu- can clearly distinguish signals for warped gravity from similar signals for large extra dimensions.

Updated Collider Bounds on the Parameters of Dynamical Torsion

We constrain the parameters of dynamical torsion, namely, the torsion-fermion coupling and the torsion mass, by making a careful analysis of current LEP-2 data at several energies, as well as CDF and D0 data from Run-I of the Tevatron. We find that measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry in the e+- e- -> mu+- mu- channel at LEP-2 produce the most restrictive bounds over most of the parameter space, though other measurements, too, have a significant role to play. Our results considerably improve the existing constraints on models with dynamical torsion.

Bhabha Scattering with Radiated Gravitons at Linear Colliders

We study the process e+- e- -> e+- e- +- missing energy at a high-energy e+- e- collider, where the missing energy arises from the radiation of Kaluza-Klein gravitons in a model with large extra dimensions. It is shown that at a high-energy linear collider, this process can not only confirm the signature of such theories but can also sometimes be comparable in effectiveness to the commonly discussed channel e+- e- -> gamma +- missing energy, especially for a large number of extra dimensions and with polarized beams. We also suggest some ways of distinguishing the signals of a graviton tower from other types of new physics signals by combining data on our suggested channel with those on the photon-graviton channel.

Torsion contraints from the recent precision measurement of the muon anomaly

In this paper we consider non-minimal couplings of the Standard Model fermions to the vector (trace) and axial vector (pseudo-trace) components of the torsion tensor. We then evaluate the contributions of these vector and axial vector components to the muon anomaly and use the recent precision measurement of the muon anomaly to derive constraints on the torsion parameters.

Extra Dimensions: A View from the Top

In models with compact extra dimensions, where the Standard Model fields are confined to a 3+1 dimensional hyperplane, the $t \bar t$ production cross-section at a hadron collider can receive significant contributions from multiple exchange of KK modes of the graviton. These are carefully computed in the well-known ADD and RS scenarios, taking the energy dependence of the sum over graviton propagators into account. Using data from Run-I of the Tevatron, 95% C.L. bounds on the parameter space of both models are derived. For Run-II of the Tevatron and LHC, discovery limits are estimated.

Rho Parameter Constraints on Models with Large Compact Dimensions

In models with large extra dimensions, where quantum gravity effects become strong at the TeV scale, the rho-parameter can receive large contributions from one-loop diagrams involving exchange of multiple graviton and dilaton states. These contributions are computed, taking into account cancellation of spurious infrared divergences, and the (finite) results for d = 5 and 6 are compared with current experimental data. It is shown that 5 large extra dimensions are incompatible with the data and d = 6 is severely constrained.
