$T\bar{T}$ Deformations and Form Factor Program

In this proceeding contribution, we review a recently proposed method to compute the minimal form factors (MFFs) of diagonal integrable field theories perturbed by irrelevant fields of the $T\bar{T}$ family. Our construction generalizes standard form factor techniques to deal with the deformed two-body scattering amplitudes, which are typical in this setting. The results are minimal form factors which are the product of the undeformed solution and a new function. This function can be fixed by requiring constant asymptotics for large rapidities, smoothness in the limit when the perturbation parameters go to zero, and agreement with standard MFF formulae for particular choices of the perturbation couplings. We observe that, for a certain range of parameters, the new MFF develops a pole at $\theta=0$. By considering several UV-complete theories, we argue that such poles can emerge naturally from the MFF integral representation and suggest how they may be eliminated.

Complete Minimal Form Factors for Irrelevant Deformations of Integrable Quantum Field Theory

In this paper, we present a method to compute the minimal form factors (MFFs) of diagonal integrable field theories perturbed by generalized $T\bar{T}$ perturbations. Building on existing results by the same authors, these MFFs are constructed in such a way as not to allow for any free parameters, an issue that plagued previous solutions. The MFFs are derived from a generalization of the standard integral representation which has been used for UV-complete theories since the birth of the form factor bootstrap program. By UV-complete we mean theories whose short-distance/high-energy limit is a local conformal field theory. Their asymptotics is characterized by exponential decay at large rapidities. By computing higher particle form factors, we find that any natural higher-particle solutions involve the cancellation of parts of the newly found MFF. We conclude that the assumption that the form factor equations, particularly the kinematic residue equation, remain unchanged in the presence of $T\bar{T}$ perturbations, is too strong. There is a trade-off between having MFFs satisfying desirable analyticity and asymptotic properties and finding analytic solutions to the form factor equations, which is likely solved by nontrivial changes to the form factor equations, especially those where locality or semilocality of fields are essential assumptions.

Boundary Quantum Field Theories Perturbed by ${\rm T}\bar{\rm T}$: Towards a Form Factor Program

Our understanding of irrelevant perturbations of integrable quantum field theories has greatly expanded over the last decade. In particular, we know that, from a scattering theory viewpoint at least, their effect is realised as a modification the two-body scattering amplitudes by a CDD factor. While this sounds like a relatively small change, this CDD factor incorporates a non-trivial dependence on the perturbation parameter(s) and alters substantially the high-energy physics of the model. This occurs through the introduction of a natural length scale and is associated with phenomena such as the Hagedorn transition. In this paper we discuss how all these features extend to boundary integrable quantum field theories and propose a construction for the building blocks of matrix elements of local fields. We show that the same type of building blocks are also found in the sinh-Gordon model with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Minimal Models RG flows: non-invertible symmetries & non-perturbative description

In this letter we continue the investigation of RG flows between minimal models that are protected by non-invertible symmetries. RG flows leaving unbroken a subcategory of non-invertible symmetries are associated with anomaly-matching conditions that we employ systematically to map the space of flows between Virasoro Minimal models beyond the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric proposed recently in the literature. We introduce a family of non-linear integral equations that appear to encode the exact finite-size, ground-state energies of these flows, including non-integrable cases, such as the recently proposed $\mathcal{M}(k q + I,q) \to \mathcal{M}(k q - I,q)$. Our family of NLIEs encompasses and generalises the integrable flows known in the literature: $\phi_{(1,3)}$, $\phi_{(1,5)}$, $\phi_{(1,2)}$ and $\phi_{(2,1)}$. This work uncovers a new interplay between exact solvability and non-invertible symmetries. Furthermore, our non-perturbative description provides a non-trivial test for all the flows conjectured by anomaly matching conditions, but so far not-observed by other means.

Gravity and $T\bar{T}$ flows in higher dimensions

We study systems in arbitrary space-time dimensions where matter, deformed by $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-like irrelevant operators, is coupled to gravity in the Palatini formalism. The dynamically equivalent perspective is investigated, wherein the deformation transitions from the matter action to the gravitational one or vice versa. This alternative viewpoint leads to the emergence of Ricci-based gravity theories, thus providing a high-dimensional generalisation of the well-known equivalence between two-dimensional $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$ deformations and coupling to Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. This dynamical equivalence is examined within the framework of the recently introduced Lagrangian flow equation, which notably led to the discovery of a direct link between Nambu-Goto theory and $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$ in $d=2$, as well as significant insights into nonlinear electrodynamics models in $d=4$. The investigation involves explicit examples in $d=4$ dimensions; it builds upon earlier research concerning the metric interpretation of $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-like perturbations, incorporates and extends recent findings in the cosmology-related literature associated to the concept of reframing. We focus on scenarios where the resulting modified gravity theories manifest as Born-Infeld and Starobinsky types.

On the Representation of Minimal Form Factors in Integrable Quantum Field Theory

In this paper, we propose a new representation of the minimal form factors in integrable quantum field theories. These are solutions of the two-particle form factor equations, which have no poles on the physical sheet. Their expression constitutes the starting point for deriving higher particle form factors and, from these, the correlation functions of the theory. As such, minimal form factors are essential elements in the analysis of integrable quantum field theories. The proposed new representation arises from our recent study of form factors in $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$-perturbed theories, where we showed that the minimal form factors decompose into elementary building blocks. Here, focusing on the paradigmatic sinh-Gordon model, we explicitly express the standard integral representation of the minimal form factor as a combination of infinitely many elementary terms, each representing the minimal form factor of a generalised $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ perturbation of the free fermion. Our results can be readily extended to other integrable quantum field theories and open various relevant questions and discussions, from the efficiency of numerical methods in evaluating correlation functions to the foundational question of what constitutes a "reasonable" choice for the minimal form factor.

The Generalised Born Oscillator and the Berry-Keating Hamiltonian

In this study, we introduce and investigate a family of quantum mechanical models in 0+1 dimensions, known as generalized Born quantum oscillators. These models represent a one-parameter deformation of a specific system obtained by reducing the Nambu-Goto theory to 0+1 dimensions. Despite these systems showing significant similarities with $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$-type perturbations of two-dimensional relativistic models, our analysis reveals their potential as interesting regularizations of the Berry-Keating theory. We quantize these models using the Weyl quantization scheme up to very high orders in $\hbar$. By examining a specific scaling limit, we observe an intriguing connection between the generalized Born quantum oscillators and the Riemann-Siegel $\theta$ function.

Entanglement Entropy from Form Factors in $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-Deformed Integrable Quantum Field Theories

In two recent papers we have proposed a program of study which allows us to compute the correlation functions of local and semi-local fields in generalised $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-deformed integrable quantum field theories. This new program, based on the construction of form factors, opens many avenues for future study, one of which we address in this paper: computing entanglement measures employing branch point twist fields. Indeed, over the past 15 years, this has become one the leading methods for the computation of entanglement measures, both in conformal field theory and integrable quantum field theory. Thus the generalisation of this program to $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-perturbed theories offers a promising new tool for the study of entanglement measures in the presence of irrelevant perturbations. In this paper, we show that the natural two-particle form factor solution for branch point twist fields in replica theories with diagonal scattering admits a simple generalisation to a solution for $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-perturbed theories. Starting with this solution, some of the known properties of entanglement measures in massive integrable quantum field theories can be generalised to the perturbed models. We show this by focusing on the Ising field theory. During the completion of this paper, we became aware of a recent publication where the same problem has been addressed.

Form Factors and Correlation Functions of $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$-Deformed Integrable Quantum Field Theories

The study of $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$-perturbed quantum field theories is an active area of research with deep connections to fundamental aspects of the scattering theory of integrable quantum field theories, generalised Gibbs ensembles, and string theory. Many features of these theories, such as the peculiar behaviour of their ground state energy and the form of their scattering matrices, have been studied in the literature. However, so far, very few studies have approached these theories from the viewpoint of the form factor program. From the perspective of scattering theory, the effects of a $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ perturbation (and higher spin versions thereof) is encoded in a universal deformation of the two-body scattering matrix by a CDD factor. It is then natural to ask how these perturbations influence the form factor equations and, more generally, the form factor program. In this paper, we address this question for free theories, although some of our results extend more generally. We show that the form factor equations admit general solutions and how these can help us study the distinct behaviour of correlation functions at short distances in theories perturbed by irrelevant operators.

Completing the Bootstrap Program for $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-Deformed Massive Integrable Quantum Field Theories

In recent years a considerable amount of attention has been devoted to the investigation of 2D quantum field theories perturbed by certain types of irrelevant operators. These are the composite field $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$ - constructed out of the components of the stress-energy tensor - and its generalisations - built from higher-spin conserved currents. The effect of such perturbations on the infrared and ultraviolet properties of the theory has been extensively investigated. In the context of integrable quantum field theories, a fruitful perspective is that of factorised scattering theory. In fact, the above perturbations were shown to preserve integrability. The resulting deformed scattering matrices - extensively analysed with the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz - provide the first step in the development of a complete bootstrap program. In this letter we present a systematic approach to computing matrix elements of operators in generalised $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$-perturbed models, based on employing the standard form factor program. Our approach is very general and can be applied to all theories with diagonal scattering. We show that the deformed form factors, just as happens for the $S$-matrix, factorise into the product of the undeformed ones and of a perturbation- and theory-dependent term. From these solutions, correlation functions can be obtained and their asymptotic properties studied. Our results set the foundations of a new research program for massive integrable quantum field theory perturbed by irrelevant operators.

Topological Gauging and Double Current Deformations

We study solvable deformations of two-dimensional quantum field theories driven by a bilinear operator constructed from a pair of conserved $U(1)$ currents $J^a$. We propose a quantum formulation of these deformations, based on the gauging of the corresponding symmetries in a path integral. This formalism leads to an exact dressing of the $S$-matrix of the system, similarly as what happens in the case of a $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation. For conformal theories the deformations under study are expected to be exactly marginal. Still, a peculiar situation might arise when the conserved currents $J^a$ are not well-defined local operators in the original theory. A simple example of this kind of system is provided by rotation currents in a theory of multiple free, massless, non-compact bosons. We verify that, somewhat unexpectedly, such a theory is indeed still conformal after deformation and that it coincides with a TsT transformation of the original system. We then extend our formalism to the case in which the conserved currents are non-Abelian and point out its connection with Deformed T-dual Models and homogeneous Yang-Baxter deformations. In this case as well the deformation is based on a gauging of the symmetries involved and it turns out to be non-trivial only if the symmetry group admits a non-trivial central extension. Finally we apply what we learned by relating the $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation to the central extension of the two-dimensional Poincaré algebra.

Deforming the ODE/IM correspondence with $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$

The ODE/IM correspondence is an exact link between classical and quantum integrable models. The primary purpose of this work is to show that it remains valid after $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$ perturbation on both sides of the correspondence. In particular, we prove that the deformed Lax pair of the sinh-Gordon model, obtained from the unperturbed one through a dynamical change of coordinates, leads to the same Burgers-type equation governing the quantum spectral flow induced by $\mathrm{T}\bar{\mathrm{T}}$. Our main conclusions have general validity, as the analysis may be easily adapted to all the known ODE/IM examples involving integrable quantum field theories.

Deterministic Chaos vs Integrable Models

In this work we present analytical and numerical evidences that classical integrable models possessing infinitely many degrees of freedom unexpectedly exhibit some features that are typical of chaotic systems. By studying how the conserved charges change under a small deformation of the initial conditions, we conclude that the inverse scattering map is responsible for the presence of these features, in spite of the system being integrable. We investigate this phenomenon in the explicit examples of the KdV equation and the sine-Gordon model and further provide general arguments supporting this statement.

On Factorizable S-matrices, Generalized TTbar, and the Hagedorn Transition

We study solutions of the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations for relativistic theories defined by the factorizable $S$-matrix of an integrable QFT deformed by CDD factors. Such $S$-matrices appear under generalized TTbar deformations of integrable QFT by special irrelevant operators. The TBA equations, of course, determine the ground state energy $E(R)$ of the finite-size system, with the spatial coordinate compactified on a circle of circumference $R$. We limit attention to theories involving just one kind of stable particles, and consider deformations of the trivial (free fermion or boson) $S$-matrix by CDD factors with two elementary poles and regular high energy asymptotics -- the "2CDD model". We find that for all values of the parameters (positions of the CDD poles) the TBA equations exhibit two real solutions at $R$ greater than a certain parameter-dependent value $R_*$, which we refer to as the primary and secondary branches. The primary branch is identified with the standard iterative solution, while the secondary one is unstable against iterations and needs to be accessed through an alternative numerical method known as pseudo-arc-length continuation. The two branches merge at the "turning point" $R_*$ (a square-root branching point). The singularity signals a Hagedorn behavior of the density of high energy states of the deformed theories, a feature incompatible with the Wilsonian notion of a local QFT originating from a UV fixed point, but typical for string theories. This behavior of $E(R)$ is qualitatively the same as the one for standard TTbar deformations of local QFT.

Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz past turning points: the (elliptic) sinh-Gordon model

We analyze the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) for various integrable S-matrices in the context of generalized $T\bar T$ deformations. We focus on the sinh-Gordon model and its elliptic deformation in both its fermionic and bosonic realizations. We confirm that the determining factor for a turning point in the TBA, interpreted as a finite Hagedorn temperature, is the difference between the number of bound states and resonances in the theory. Implementing the numerical pseudo-arclength continuation method, we are able to follow the solutions to the TBA equations past the turning point all the way to the ultraviolet regime. We find that for any number $k$ of resonances the pair of complex conjugate solutions below the turning point is such that the effective central charge is minimized. As $k\to\infty$ the UV effective central charge goes to zero as in the elliptic sinh-Gordon model. Finally we uncover a new family of UV complete integrable theories defined by the bosonic counterparts of the S-matrices describing the $Φ_{1,3}$ integrable deformation of non-unitary minimal models $\mathcal M_{2,2n+3}$.

Geometric aspects of the ODE/IM correspondence

This review describes a link between Lax operators, embedded surfaces and Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations for integrable quantum field theories. This surprising connection between classical and quantum models is undoubtedly one of the most striking discoveries that emerged from the off-critical generalisation of the ODE/IM correspondence, which initially involved only conformal invariant quantum field theories. We will mainly focus of the KdV and sinh-Gordon models. However, various aspects of other interesting systems, such as affine Toda field theories and non-linear sigma models, will be mentioned. We also discuss the implications of these ideas in the AdS/CFT context, involving minimal surfaces and Wilson loops. This work is a follow-up of the ODE/IM review published more than ten years ago by JPA, before the discovery of its off-critical generalisation and the corresponding geometrical interpretation. (Partially based on lectures given at the Young Researchers Integrability School 2017, in Dublin.)

Flow equations for generalised $T\bar{T}$ deformations

We consider the most general set of integrable deformations extending the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of two-dimensional relativistic QFTs. They are CDD deformations of the theory's factorised S-matrix related to the higher-spin conserved charges. Using a mirror version of the generalised Gibbs ensemble, we write down the finite-volume expectation value of the higher-spin charges, and derive a generalised flow equation that every charge must obey under a generalised $T\bar{T}$ deformation. This also reproduces the known flow equations on the nose.

Conserved currents and $\text{T}\bar{\text{T}}_s$ irrelevant deformations of 2D integrable field theories

It has been recently discovered that the $\text{T}\bar{\text{T}}$ deformation is closely-related to Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. At classical level, the introduction of this perturbation induces an interaction between the stress-energy tensor and space-time and the deformed EoMs can be mapped, through a field-dependent change of coordinates, onto the corresponding undeformed ones. The effect of this perturbation on the quantum spectrum is non-perturbatively described by an inhomogeneous Burgers equation. In this paper, we point out that there exist infinite families of models where the geometry couples instead to generic combinations of local conserved currents labelled by the Lorentz spin. In spirit, these generalisations are similar to the $\text{J}\bar{\text{T}}$ model as the resulting theories and the corresponding scattering phase factors are not Lorentz invariant. The link with the $\text{J}\bar{\text{T}}$ model is discussed in detail. While the classical setup described here is very general, we shall use the sine-Gordon model and its CFT limit as explanatory quantum examples. Most of the final equations and considerations are, however, of broader validity or easily generalisable to more complicated systems.
