Big Bang Nucleosynthesis results refined via the Trojan Horse Method

This work presents the Trojan Horse Method (THM) as a powerful technique for measuring nuclear reaction cross sections at astrophysical energies. We then explore the impact of THM-derived reaction rates on the predictions of Standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (SBBN) using the PRIMAT code. Primordial abundances are shown for the single rate impact and, for the first time, also for all the THM rates together. The result shows significant differences with the use of THM rates, which in some cases goes in the direction of improving the agreement with the observations with respect to the use of only reaction rates from direct data, especially for the $^7$Li and deuterium abundances, which are still open issues for SBBN.

The 27Al(p,a)24Mg reaction at astrophysical energies studied by means of the Trojan Horse Method applied to the 2H(27Al,a24Mg)n reaction

The 27Al(p,a)24Mg reaction, which drives the destruction of 27Al and the production of 24Mg in stellar hydrogen burning, has been investigated via the Trojan Horse Method (THM) by measuring the 2H(27Al,a24Mg)n three-body reaction. The experiment covered a broad energy range (-0.5 MeV < E_cm < 1.5 MeV), aiming to investigate those of interest for astrophysics.The results confirm the THM as a valuable technique for the experimental study of fusion reactions at very low energies and suggest the presence of a rich pattern of resonances in the energy region close to the Gamow window of stellar hydrogen burning (70-120 keV), with potential impact on astrophysics. To estimate such an impact a second run of the experiment is needed, since the background due the three-body reaction hampered to collect enough data to resolve the resonant structures and extract the reaction rate.

Rational reductions of the 2D-Toda hierarchy and mirror symmetry

We introduce and study a two-parameter family of symmetry reductions of the two-dimensional Toda lattice hierarchy, which are characterized by a rational factorization of the Lax operator into a product of an upper diagonal and the inverse of a lower diagonal formal difference operator. They subsume and generalize several classical 1 + 1 integrable hierarchies, such as the bigraded Toda hierarchy, the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy and E. Frenkel's q-deformed Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy. We establish their characterization in terms of block Toeplitz matrices for the associated factorization problem, and study their Hamiltonian structure. At the dispersionless level, we show how the Takasaki-Takebe classical limit gives rise to a family of non-conformal Frobenius manifolds with flat identity. We use this to generalize the relation of the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy to Gromov-Witten theory by proving an analogous mirror theorem for rational reductions: in particular, we show that the dual-type Frobenius manifolds we obtain are isomorphic to the equivariant quantum cohomology of a family of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds obtained from minimal resolutions of the local orbifold line.

Biorthogonal ensembles with two-particle interactions

We investigate determinantal point processes on $[0,+\infty)$ of the form \begin{equation*}\label{probability distribution} \frac{1}{Z_n}\prod_{1\leq i<j\leq n}(λ_j-λ_i)\prod_{1\leq i<j\leq n}(λ_j^θ-λ_i^θ) \prod_{j=1}^n w(λ_j)dλ_j,\qquad θ\geq 1. \end{equation*} We prove that the biorthogonal polynomials associated to such models satisfy a recurrence relation and a Christoffel-Darboux formula if $θ\in\mathbb Q$, and that they can be characterized in terms of $1\times 2$ vector-valued Riemann-Hilbert problems which exhibit some non-standard properties. In addition, we obtain expressions for the equilibrium measure associated to our model if $w(λ)=e^{-nV(λ)}$ in the one-cut case with and without hard edge.

Frobenius structures on double Hurwitz spaces

We construct Frobenius structures of "dual type" on the moduli space of ramified coverings of $\mathbb{P}^1$ with given ramification type over two points, generalizing a construction of Dubrovin. A complete hierarchy of hydrodynamic type is obtained from the corresponding deformed flat connection. This provides a suitable framework for the Whitham theory of an enlarged class of integrable hierarchies; we treat as examples the q-deformed Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy and the sine-Gordon equation, and compute the corresponding solutions of the WDVV equations.

4-dimensional Frobenius manifolds and Painleve' VI

A Frobenius manifold has tri-hamiltonian structure if it is even-dimensional and its spectrum is maximally degenerate. We focus on the case of dimension four and show that, under the assumption of semisimplicity, the corresponding isomonodromic Fuchsian system is described by the Painlevé VI$μ$ equation. This yields an explicit procedure associating to any semisimple Frobenius manifold of dimension three a tri-hamiltonian Frobenius manifold of dimension four. We carry out explicit examples for the case of Frobenius structures on Hurwitz spaces.
