Arithmetic properties of Fourier coefficients of meromorphic modular forms

We investigate integrality and divisibility properties of Fourier coefficients of meromorphic modular forms of weight $2k$ associated to positive definite integral binary quadratic forms. For example, we show that if there are no non-trivial cusp forms of weight $2k$, then the $n$-th coefficients of these meromorphic modular forms are divisible by $n^{k-1}$ for every natural number $n$. Moreover, we prove that their coefficients are non-vanishing and have either constant or alternating signs. Finally, we obtain a relation between the Fourier coefficients of meromorphic modular forms, the coefficients of the $j$-function, and the partition function.

Locally harmonic Maass forms and periods of meromorphic modular forms

We investigate a new family of locally harmonic Maass forms which correspond to periods of modular forms. They transform like negative weight modular forms and are harmonic apart from jump singularities along infinite geodesics. Our main result is an explicit splitting of the new locally harmonic Maass forms into a harmonic part and a locally polynomial part that captures the jump singularities. As an application, we obtain finite rational formulas for suitable linear combinations of periods of meromorphic modular forms associated to positive definite binary quadratic forms.

Meromorphic modular forms with rational cycle integrals

We study rationality properties of geodesic cycle integrals of meromorphic modular forms associated to positive definite binary quadratic forms. In particular, we obtain finite rational formulas for the cycle integrals of suitable linear combinations of these meromorphic modular forms.

Linear Incongruences for Generalized Eta-Quotients

For a given generalized eta-quotient, we show that linear progressions whose residues fulfill certain quadratic equations do not give rise to a linear congruence modulo any prime. This recovers known results for classical eta-quotients, especially the partition function, but also yields linear incongruences for more general weakly holomorphic modular forms like the Rogers-Ramanujan functions.

Niebur-Poincaré Series and Traces of Singular Moduli

We compute the Fourier coefficients of analogues of Kohnen and Zagier's modular forms $f_{k,D}$ of weight $2$ and negative discriminant. These functions can also be written as twisted traces of certain weight $2$ Poincaré series with evaluations of Niebur-Poincaré series as Fourier coefficients. This allows us to study twisted traces of singular moduli in an integral weight setting. In particular, we recover explicit series expressions for twisted traces of singular moduli and extend algebraicity results by Bengoechea to the weight $2$ case. We also compute regularized inner products of these functions, which in the higher weight case have been related to evaluations of higher Green's functions at CM-points.

Number-theoretic generalization of the Monster denominator formula

The denominator formula for the Monster Lie algebra is the product expansion for the modular function $j(z)-j(τ)$ in terms of the Hecke system of $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-modular functions $j_n(τ)$. This formula can be reformulated entirely number-theoretically. Namely, it is equivalent to the description of the generating function for the $j_n(z)$ as a weight 2 modular form in $τ$ with a pole at $z$. Although these results rely on the fact that $X_0(1)$ has genus 0, here we obtain a generalization, framed in terms of polar harmonic Maass forms, for all of the $X_0(N)$ modular curves. In this survey we discuss this generalization, and we offer an introduction to the theory of polar harmonic Maass forms. We conclude with applications to formulas of Ramanujan and Green's functions.

Special Values of Motivic $L$-Functions and Zeta-Polynomials for Symmetric Powers of Elliptic Curves

Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a pure motive over $\mathbb{Q}$ of odd weight $w\geq 3$, even rank $d\geq 2$, and global conductor $N$ whose $L$-function $L(s,\mathcal{M})$ coincides with the $L$-function of a self-dual algebraic tempered cuspidal symplectic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{d}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$. We show that a certain polynomial which generates special values of $L(s,\mathcal{M})$ (including all of the critical values) has all of its zeros equidistributed on the unit circle, provided that $N$ or $w$ are sufficiently large with respect to $d$. These special values have arithmetic significance in the context of the Bloch-Kato conjecture. We focus on applications to symmetric powers of semistable elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$. Using the Rodriguez-Villegas transform, we use these results to construct large classes of "zeta-polynomials" (in the sense of Manin) arising from symmetric powers of semistable elliptic curves; these polynomials have a functional equation relating $s\mapsto 1-s$, and all of their zeros on the line $\operatorname{Re}(s)=1/2$.

On Divisors of Modular Forms

The denominator formula for the Monster Lie algebra is the product expansion for the modular function $j(z)-j(τ)$ given in terms of the Hecke system of $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)$-modular functions $j_n(τ)$. It is prominent in Zagier's seminal paper on traces of singular moduli, and in the Duncan-Frenkel work on Moonshine. The formula is equivalent to the description of the generating function for the $j_n(z)$ as a weight 2 modular form with a pole at $z$. Although these results rely on the fact that $X_0(1)$ has genus 0, here we obtain a generalization, framed in terms of polar harmonic Maass forms, for all of the $X_0(N)$ modular curves. We use these functions to study divisors of modular forms.

Radial Limits of the Universal Mock Theta Function $g_3$

Referring to Ramanujan's original definition of a mock theta function, Rhoades asked for explicit formulas for radial limits of the universal mock theta functions $g_2$ and $g_3$. Recently, Bringmann and Rolen found such formulas for specializations of $g_2$. Here we treat the case of $g_3$, generalizing radial limit results for the rank generating function of Folsom, Ono, and Rhoades. Furthermore, we find expressions for radial limits of fifth order mock theta functions different from those of Bajpai, Kimport, Liang, Ma, and Ricci.

A Gap in the Spectrum of the Faltings Height

We show that the minimum $h_{\text{min}}$ of the stable Faltings height on elliptic curves found by Deligne is followed by a gap. This means that there is a constant $C >0$ such that for every elliptic curve $E/K$ with everywhere semistable reduction over a number field $K$, we either have $h(E/K)=h_{\text{min}}$ or $h(E/K)\geq h_{\text{min}} +C$. We determine such an absolute constant explicitly. On the contrary, we show that there is no such gap for elliptic curves with unstable reduction.
