Sequence of Numbers of Linear Codes with Increasing Hull Dimensions

The hull of a linear code $C$ is the intersection of $C$ with its dual code. We present and analyze the number of linear $q$-ary codes of the same length and dimension but with different dimensions for their hulls. We prove that for given dimension $k$ and length $n\ge 2k$ the number of all $[n,k]_q$ linear codes with hull dimension $l$ decreases as $l$ increases. We also present classification results for binary and ternary linear codes with trivial hulls (LCD and self-orthogonal) for some values of the length $n$ and dimension $k$, comparing the obtained numbers with the number of all linear codes for the given $n$ and $k$.

On the Structure of the Linear Codes with a Given Automorphism

The purpose of this paper is to present the structure of the linear codes over a finite field with q elements that have a permutation automorphism of order m. These codes can be considered as generalized quasi-cyclic codes. Quasi-cyclic codes and almost quasi-cyclic codes are discussed in detail, presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for which linear codes with such an automorphism are self-orthogonal, self-dual, or linear complementary dual.

An Algorithm for Computing the Covering Radius of a Linear Code Based on Vilenkin-Chrestenson Transform

We present a generalization of Walsh-Hadamard transform that is suitable for applications in Coding Theory, especially for computation of the weight distribution and the covering radius of a linear code over a finite field. The transform used in our research, is a modification of Vilenkin-Chrestenson transform. Instead of using all the vectors in the considered space, we take a maximal set of nonproportional vectors, which reduces the computational complexity.

About Code Equivalence -- a Geometric Approach

The equivalence test is a main part in any classification problem. It helps to prove bounds for the main parameters of the considered combinatorial structures and to study their properties. In this paper, we present algorithms for equivalence of linear codes, based on their relation to multisets of points in a projective geometry.

Optimal Binary LCD Codes

Linear complementary dual codes (or codes with complementary duals) are codes whose intersections with their dual codes are trivial. These codes were first introduced by Massey in 1964. Nowadays, LCD codes are extensively studied in the literature and widely applied in data storage, cryptography, etc. In this paper, we prove some properties of binary LCD codes using their shortened and punctured codes. We also present some inequalities for the largest minimum weight $d_{LCD}(n,k)$ of binary LCD [n,k] codes for given length n and dimension k. Furthermore, we give two tables with the values of $d_{LCD}(n,k)$ for $k\le 32$ and $n\le 40$, and two tables with classification results.

Computer classification of linear codes

We present algorithms for classification of linear codes over finite fields, based on canonical augmentation and on lattice point enumeration. We apply these algorithms to obtain classification results over fields with 2, 3 and 4 elements. We validate a correct implementation of the algorithms with known classification results from the literature, which we partially extend to larger ranges of parameters.

Characteristic vector and weight distribution of a linear code

We develop an algorithm for computing the weight distribution of a linear $[n,k]$ code over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. We represent the codes by their characteristic vector with respect to a given generator matrix and a special type of a generator matrix of the k-dimensional simplex code. This characteristic vector is the input data of our algorithms. The complexity of the presented algorithms is O(kq^k).

Nonexistence of certain singly even self-dual codes with minimal shadow

It is known that there is no extremal singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,d]$ code with minimal shadow for $(n,d)=(24m+2,4m+4)$, $(24m+4,4m+4)$, $(24m+6,4m+4)$, $(24m+10,4m+4)$ and $(24m+22,4m+6)$. In this paper, we study singly even self-dual codes with minimal shadow having minimum weight $d-2$ for these $(n,d)$. For $n=24m+2$, $24m+4$ and $24m+10$, we show that the weight enumerator of a singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,4m+2]$ code with minimal shadow is uniquely determined and we also show that there is no singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,4m+2]$ code with minimal shadow for $m \ge 155$, $m \ge 156$ and $m \ge 160$, respectively. We demonstrate that the weight enumerator of a singly even self-dual code with minimal shadow is not uniquely determined for parameters $[24m+6,12m+3,4m+2]$ and $[24m+22,12m+11,4m+4]$.

On the Automorphisms of Order 15 for a Binary Self-Dual [96, 48, 20] Code

The structure of binary self-dual codes invariant under the action of a cyclic group of order $pq$ for odd primes $p\neq q$ is considered. As an application we prove the nonexistence of an extremal self-dual $[96, 48, 20]$ code with an automorphism of order $15$ which closes a gap in `"On extremal self-dual codes of length 96", IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, vol. 57, pp. 6820-6823, 2011'.

On the Automorphism Group of a Binary Self-dual [120, 60, 24] Code

We prove that an automorphism of order 3 of a putative binary self-dual [120, 60, 24] code C has no fixed points. Moreover, the order of the automorphism group of C divides 2^a.3.5.7.19.23.29 where a is a nonegative integer. Automorphisms of odd composite order r may occur only for r=15, 57 or r=115 with corresponding cycle structures 15-(0,0,8;0), 57-(2,0,2;0) or 115-(1,0,1;0), respectively. In case that all involutions act fixed point freely we have |Aut(C)|<=920, and Aut(C) is solvable if it contains an element of prime order p>=7. Moreover, the alternating group A_5 is the only non-abelian composition factor which may occur.

Some Extremal Self-Dual Codes and Unimodular Lattices in Dimension 40

In this paper, binary extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40 and extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 are studied. We give a classification of extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40. We also give a classification of extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 with shadows having 80 vectors of norm 2 through their relationships with extremal doubly even self-dual codes of length 40.

Singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow

In this note we investigate extremal singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow. For particular parameters we prove non-existence of such codes. By a result of Rains \cite{Rains-asymptotic}, the length of extremal singly-even self-dual codes is bounded. We give explicit bounds in case the shadow is minimal.

Classification of Binary Self-Dual [48,24,10] Codes with an Automorphism of Odd Prime Order

The purpose of this paper is to complete the classification of binary self-dual [48,24,10] codes with an automorphism of odd prime order. We prove that if there is a self-dual [48, 24, 10] code with an automorphism of type p-(c,f) with p being an odd prime, then p=3, c=16, f=0. By considering only an automorphism of type 3-(16,0), we prove that there are exactly 264 inequivalent self-dual [48, 24, 10] codes with an automorphism of odd prime order, equivalently, there are exactly 264 inequivalent cubic self-dual [48, 24, 10] codes.
