Probing Yukawa Unification with K and B Mixing

We consider corrections to the unification of down-quark and charged-lepton Yukawa couplings in supersymmetric GUTs, which links the large nu_tau-nu_mu mixing angle to b -> s transitions. These corrections generically occur in simple grand-unified models with small Higgs representations and affect s -> d and b -> d transitions via the mixing of the corresponding right-handed superpartners. On the basis of a specific SUSY-SO(10) model, we analyze the constraints from K-Kbar and B-Bbar mixing on the additional \tilde{d}_R-\tilde{s}_R rotation angle theta. We find that epsilon_K already sets a stringent bound on theta, theta^{max}=O(1 degree), indicating a very specific flavor structure of the correction operators. The impact of the large neutrino mixings on the unitarity triangle analysis is also briefly discussed, as well as their ability to account for the sizeable CP-violating phase observed recently in B_s -> psi phi decays.

The supersymmetric Higgs sector and B-Bbar mixing for large tan beta

We match the Higgs sector of the most general flavour breaking and CP violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) onto a generic two-Higgs-doublet model, paying special attention to the definition of tan beta in the effective theory. In particular no tan beta-enhanced loop corrections appear in the relation to tan beta defined in the DRbar scheme in the MSSM. The corrections to the Higgs-mediated flavour-changing amplitudes which result from this matching are especially relevant for the B_d and B_s mass differences dM_s,d for minimal flavour violation, where the superficially leading contribution vanishes. We give a symmetry argument to explain this cancellation and perform a systematic study of all Higgs-mediated effects, including Higgs loops. The corrections to dM_s are at most 7% for mu>0 and M_A < 600 if constraints from other observables are taken into account. For mu<0 they can be larger, but are always less than about 20%. Contrary to recent claims we do not find numerically large contributions here, nor do we find any tan beta-enhanced contributions from loop corrections to the Higgs potential in B^+ -> tau^+ nu or B -> X_s gamma. We further update supersymmetric loop corrections to the Yukawa couplings, where we include all possible CP-violating phases and correct errors in the literature. The possible presence of CP-violating phases generated by Higgs exchange diagrams is briefly discussed as well. Finally we provide improved values for the bag factors P^VLL_1, P^LR_2, and P^SLL_1 at the electroweak scale.

Charged-Higgs effects in a new B -> D tau nu differential decay distribution

We show that the decay mode B -> D tau nu is competitive with and complementary to B -> tau nu in the search for charged-Higgs effects. Updating the relevant form factors, we find that the differential distribution in the decay chain B -> D nu tau[-> pi nu] excellently discriminates between Standard-Model and charged-Higgs contributions. By measuring the D and pi energies and the angle between the D and pi three-momenta one can determine the effective charged-Higgs coupling including a possible CP-violating phase.

The MSSM Higgs sector and B-Bbar mixing for large tan(beta)

A systematic analysis of Higgs-mediated contributions to the Bd and Bs mass differences is presented in the MSSM with large values of tan(beta). In particular, supersymmetric corrections to Higgs self-interactions are seen to modify the correlation between Delta Mq and BR(Bq --> mu+ mu-) for light Higgses. The present experimental upper bound on BR(Bs --> mu+ mu-) is nevertheless still sufficient to exclude noticeable Higgs-mediated effects on the mass differences in most of the parameter space.

KL to pi0 e+ e- and KL to pi0 mu+ mu- : A binary star on the stage of flavor physics

A systematic analysis of New Physics impacts on the rare decays KL to pi0 l+ l- is performed. Thanks to their different sensitivities to flavor-changing local effective interactions, these two modes could provide valuable information on the nature of the possible New Physics at play. In particular, a combined measurement of both modes could disentangle scalar/pseudoscalar from vector or axial-vector contributions. For the latter, model-independent bounds are derived. Finally, the KL to pi0 mu+ mu- forward-backward CP-asymmetry is considered, and shown to give interesting complementary information.

Tracking down penguins at the poles

QCD penguins are responsible for about 2/3 of the Delta I=1/2 rule in K to pi pi decays, as inferred from a combined analysis of K to pi pi and KL to gamma gamma. Further tests based on the decays KS to pi0 gamma gamma and K+ to pi+ gamma gamma are proposed. New insights into the treatment of pi0, eta, eta' pole amplitudes are also reported.

Exploring the flavour structure of the MSSM with rare K decays

We present an extensive analysis of rare K decays, in particular of the two neutrino modes K+->pi+ nu nu-bar and KL->pi0 nu nu-bar, in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. We analyse the expectations for the branching ratios of these modes, both within the restrictive framework of the minimal flavour violation hypothesis and within a more general framework with new sources of flavour-symmetry breaking. In both scenarios, the information that can be extracted from precise measurements of the two neutrino modes turn out to be very useful in restricting the parameter space of the model, even after taking into account the possible information on the mass spectrum derived from high-energy colliders, and the constraints from B-physics experiments. In the presence of new sources of flavour-symmetry breaking, additional significant constraints on the model can be derived also from the two KL->pi0 l+l- modes.

Radiative Kaon Decays and the Penguin Contribution to the Delta I = 1/2 Rule

A consistent census of penguins in the Delta I = 1/2 rule is taken from the eta0 pole contribution to the radiative KL to gamma gamma, KS to pi0 gamma gamma and K+ to pi+ gamma gamma decay modes. We briefly comment on its impact for KL to pi0 pi0 gamma gamma, KL to pi+ pi- gamma and check its compatibility with the KL - KS mass difference and the CP violating epsilon-prime / epsilon parameter.
