CosmoAgent: AI Agent for Theoretical Cosmology

We present CosmoAgent, an agentic AI framework using large language models (LLMs) to search for dark-energy and modified-gravity models. We define a covariant grammar that allows LLM agents to explore the space of modified-gravity Lagrangians. An in-house computational pipeline derives the equations of motion, solves the background dynamics, and evaluates the likelihood using late-time expansion data, including the DES 5-year type Ia supernova sample and the DESI Data Release 2 BAO measurements. Theories are ranked by the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) to balance simplicity and likelihood. We benchmarked 8 frontier LLMs from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Kimi, DeepSeek, and Qwen, and all LLMs are able to find theories with a lower nominal AIC than flat $Λ$CDM, with a best improvement of $Δ$ AIC=-3.328. Seven recover quadratic quintessence. Exploratory searches also return induced-gravity and scalar-Gauss-Bonnet structures. The modest AIC improvements do not establish an observational preference for these models over flat $Λ$CDM. Fermionic cosmic strings in dynamical Chern-Simons gravity

We investigate topological defects produced by a chiral phase transition in a fermionic ultraviolet completion of dynamical Chern-Simons (dCS) gravity. The model contains a complex scalar field with a chiral Yukawa coupling to fermions. Below the chiral symmetry breaking scale, integrating out the gapped bulk modes produces a gravitational Chern-Simons coupling which, we argue, modifies cosmic string solutions from the phase transition. The resulting corrected string metric is supported by a generalization of the Callan-Harvey fermionic zero mode solution, in which the null current generated by these zero modes provides a mechanism for parity violation. In the weak-coupling and weak-gravity regime, we derive the leading order-reduced dCS correction to this exterior metric. We also discuss the effective action description for generic string configurations in dCS gravity. The gravitational Pontryagin term provides the anomaly inflow required to cancel the gravitational anomaly of the chiral worldsheet theory.

A Unified Fermionic Origin for Density-Driven Waterfall Inflation and its Multi-Messenger Signatures

Inflation is conventionally described by fundamental scalar fields whose microscopic origin remains unknown. We propose a different mechanism in which inflation emerges from fermion condensates generated by torsion-induced four-fermion interactions in Einstein-Cartan-Holst gravity. Starting from a purely fermionic theory, we derive a two-condensate effective description whose dynamics resembles hybrid inflation but exhibits a new exit mechanism: a density-driven waterfall transition. During inflation, axial charge production continuously increases the fermion density and associated chiral chemical potential. Solving the finite-density gap equation, we show that above a critical axial density the condensate no longer admits a symmetry-broken solution. Inflation therefore ends through evaporation of the condensate itself rather than the inflaton crossing a critical field value. This mechanism naturally triggers rapid energy transfer to fermionic degrees of freedom, providing a microscopic realization of instant preheating. The post-transition condensate is unstable to fragmentation into charged non-topological solitons. These objects can subsequently collapse into primordial black holes, generating a calculable relic population whose properties follow from the same condensate dynamics that drives inflation. Because the underlying theory is intrinsically chiral and connected to dynamical Chern-Simons gravity, the scenario also predicts parity-violating signatures. The framework unifies inflation, reheating, soliton formation, primordial-black-hole production, and parity-violating phenomenology within a single gravitationally induced fermion-condensation mechanism. It provides a composite alternative to scalar-field inflation and identifies correlated observational signatures that can test the role of spacetime torsion in the early Universe.

Four-Fermion Condensates in Curved Spacetimes: A Functional Approach

Four-fermion interactions appear in effective descriptions of particle physics, many-body systems, and gravitational theories with fermions. Although the same local operator may enter perturbative scattering, a vacuum Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) instability, or finite-density Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) pairing, these regimes are distinguished by their interaction channels, quadratic kernels, and quantum states. We give a pedagogical functional account of these distinctions and compute the local one-loop contribution of a scalar-channel NJL mean field to the energy-momentum tensor in curved spacetime. We first display the state data in the in-out functional and construct the closed-time-path functional required for an in-in expectation value. For the NJL saddle, a Hubbard-Stratonovich field shifts the fermion mass, and the parity-even Dirac determinant generates local volume, curvature, and curvature-squared operators. We find the covariant quantum effective action before specializing to a spatially flat FLRW background and derive the corresponding energy density and pressure. The constant-condensate limit agrees with the direct flat-space mean-field calculation. We also explain which additional state and channel data are required for finite-density BCS pairing and comment on renormalization conditions in curved spacetimes.

Quantum de Sitter and Analytically Continued Chern Simons Theory

We give a Lefschetz thimble definition of the Chern--Simons--Kodama wavefunctional in Lorentzian self-dual gravity with positive cosmological constant. By complexifying the connection and choosing the Lefschetz thimble attached to the self-dual de~Sitter saddle, Witten's analytic continuation of Chern--Simons theory replaces the real contour, on which the defining integral is at best conditionally convergent, by an absolutely convergent integration cycle and yields a controlled semiclassical expansion. The relevant integrand is the full holomorphic exponential $e^{I}$, with $I=κY_{\rm CS}+(\text{source})$, and the steepest descent flow is governed by the Morse function $h=\operatorname{Re} I$. In the homogeneous isotropic de Sitter reduction, the construction reproduces the Hartle--Hawking Airy wavefunction. In the Bianchi~IX truncation, we take the Lefschetz thimble attached to the expanding de~Sitter saddle (the contracting branch defines a conjugate Lefschetz thimble); within this sector, the symmetric configuration is the only critical point for $Λ>0$. The corresponding Lefschetz thimble contains one trace direction with the FRW Airy structure and two anisotropic shear directions that are real-Gaussian damped at leading quadratic order. This gives a finite Bianchi~IX wavefunction which, to leading order, is the FRW Airy factor multiplied by a real anisotropy Gaussian. Thus, the Airy behavior is not an artifact of the one-dimensional minisuperspace reduction, but the leading form of the wavefunction on the Lefschetz thimble. We also discuss how the Lefschetz thimble prescription interfaces with Lorentzian reality conditions.

Gravitational Waves in Chern-Simons-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

It is known that the four-dimensional effective field theory arising from heterotic string theory is general relativity with both a Chern-Simons and Gauss-Bonnet term. We study the propagation of gravitational waves in this combination of Chern-Simons and Gauss-Bonnet gravity, both of which have an associated scalar field, the axion and the dilaton respectively, that are kinetically coupled. We review how the combination of dynamical Chern-Simons and Gauss-Bonnet gravities can arise from string theory as corrections to general relativity and show how the gravitational wave waveform is modified in such a theory. We compare our results to a novel framework recently introduced for parametrizing the parity-violating sector (Chern-Simons), and use that to guide our construction of a similar parametrization for the parity-conserving (Gauss-Bonnet) sector. In general, we find that the contributions from the parity-violating and parity-conserving sectors are similar. Moreover, the kinetic coupling between the axion and dilaton introduces an extra contribution to the parity-violating sector of the gravitational waves. Using our parametrization, we are able to comment on initial constraints for the theory parameters, including the time variations of the axion and dilaton.

Beyond general relativity: gravitational waves in non-minimally coupled theories

Non-minimal couplings between matter and curvature tensors arise in many different contexts. Such couplings modify solutions of general relativity (GR) and therefore can be probed in various astrophysical systems. A particularly interesting scenario arises if dark matter experiences non-minimal couplings, as dark matter densities are expected to spike in the vicinity of binary black hole mergers. This gives a novel setting for simultaneously studying dark matter and (beyond) GR physics via observations of gravitational waves (GWs). In this work, we explore effects of various non-minimal couplings on GWs by working with a model-independent parameterization for left- and right-handed GW strains. We extend the parameterization proposed in \cite{Jenks:2023pmk,Daniel:2024lev} to include early-universe effects, and we write down the generic solution assuming slowly-varying matter fields. We then systematically apply our results to three models: Kalb-Ramond dark matter with dimension-four operators, axion-dilaton-Chern-Simons-Gauss-Bonnet dimension-five operators, and dimension-six couplings to a (dark) vector field.

Symbiotic Magnetogenesis during Radiation Domination

We present a late-time magnetogenesis mechanism in which a coupled axion-dilaton system sources a dark $U(1)$ gauge field. The dilaton's exponential coupling drives tachyonic amplification by reshaping the instability band, while the axion controls the helicity structure of the field. Together, they amplify both gauge helicities and produce a moderately chiral dark magnetic field without fine-tuning in either scalar sector. The field is generated in the dark sector, thus the mechanism avoids plasma-conductivity suppression in the visible sector, while the model remains robust across a broad range of scalar-masses and couplings. Numerical evolution from $z=10^5$ to matter-radiation equality, combined with a parameter search over the axion mass, dilaton initial conditions, and dilaton coupling, shows that astrophysically relevant amplification persists across fuzzy-dark-matter and ultralight-axion regimes. A benchmark case yields $B\approx0.9 ~\mathrm{nG}$ on $λ_0\sim1 \mathrm{Mpc}$, with kinetic mixing transferring the field to the visible sector over a broad range of mixing parameters.

Photon-Mediated Hybridization and Dissipative Transport in a Cavity-QED Ring-Acceptor Architecture

We investigate excitation transfer in an engineered cavity QED transport architecture consisting of an N-site donor ring coupled coherently to a central acceptor and driven by a single quantized photon mode. The system evolves under a Lindblad master equation including spontaneous loss and pure dephasing. In the ordered symmetric limit, the dynamics reduce exactly to a photon-bright mode-acceptor trimer, allowing closed-form analytic expressions for transfer efficiencies and mode-resolved losses. We demonstrate that near-unity efficiency arises from photon-mediated hybridization that generates a dark transport channel in which ring population is strongly suppressed. This cavity-induced mechanism bypasses dissipative dark modes of the ring and is distinct from conventional excitonic transport or environmentally assisted quantum transport (ENAQT). Static disorder in photon-ring coupling activates lossy ring modes through hybridization, while intra-ring coupling primarily shifts spectral crossings and can restore efficiency by separating dissipative channels. The model is interpreted as a tunable quantum-optical transport device. Our analytic reduction provides clear design principles for engineered quantum transport networks operating in cavity-QED platforms.

A Quantum Gravitational Mechanism for Isotropization of de Sitter Cosmologies

Today, the observable cosmos exhibits a remarkable degree of isotropy and plausibly began in a nearly isotropic initial state. The properties of the Lorentzian Chern-Simons-Kodama (CSK) functional can provide an understanding of this initial state. In gravity with a positive cosmological constant, the Chern-Simons-Kodama (CSK) wavefunctional is an exact, chiral solution of the quantum gravitational constraints. We suggest that the normalizability and other issues with this functional, if interpreted as a proper state of quantum gravity, instead suggest an embedding into a larger quantum gravitational completion, and recast the CSK functional as a gravitational sphaleron with observationally desirable properties. By perturbing around the dominant de Sitter saddle of the wavefunctional with appropriate quantum gravitational boundary conditions, we find that for a closed universe the system is dynamically driven to spatial isotropy, while all anisotropic modes acquire positive quadratic curvature and are Gaussian-suppressed. The decay of this sphaleron therefore proceeds along an isotropic channel, providing an intrinsic quantum-gravitational mechanism for dynamical isotropization. This isotropization effect is robust under the inclusion of a slow-roll inflaton, and no analogous isotropic sphaleron exists for spatially flat or hyperbolic geometries. Taken together, these results recast the Lorentzian CSK functional as a chiral sphaleron that naturally prepares an approximately isotropic de Sitter background for inflation. Beyond this phenomenological study, we further suggest that the CSK functional can be understood as a boundary functional for a class of anomaly-free objects, including a complexified generalization of the Hartle-Hawking state.

Autonomous Discovery of Particle Physics Theories from Experimental Data

The search for physics beyond the Standard Model is hindered by a combinatorial explosion of possible theories. We introduce \textsc{Albert}, a neuro-symbolic artificial intelligence framework to systematically navigate this vast theory space. By encoding particle physics as a formal language, \textsc{Albert} generates tokenized sequences representing symmetries, particles, and interactions under a rule-based grammar, eliminating the hallucinations common in large language models. The reinforcement learning environment enforces first-principle theoretical constraints, computes observables with radiative corrections, and evaluates statistical likelihood via $χ^2$ analysis against experimental data. As a proof of concept, we train a 25-million-parameter transformer model using only legacy data from the Large Electron-Positron Collider, which contains no direct evidence of the top quark. Remarkably, \textsc{Albert} successfully rediscovered the Standard Model and autonomously inferred necessity and properties of the top quark, predicting its mass at $178.9\pm 5.0~\text{GeV}$, consistent with its modern measurement at the Large Hadron Collider. These results demonstrate the potential of AI-driven theory exploration as a rigorous, hallucination-free, and scalable paradigm for autonomous discovery of new physics.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in Graviweak Theory

Graviweak theory seeks to unify gravity (specifically in its self-dual formulation) with the weak interaction, preying on their parallel chiral $SU(2)$ structures. In this paper we further this idea by folding it with the concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking. We do this first with a standard Higgs field and potential, starting with a unifying parity-invariant theory which splits into the usual gravity and weak sector under spontaneous symmetry breaking. By rewriting the theory in the two-spin framework we are then prompted to discuss generalizations, within the generic approach known as MacDowell-Mansouri theories where a larger internal gauge group is broken. One of the predictions of the ensuing construction is a non-minimal coupling in the low energy broken phase between curvature and the weak gauge fields, translating at the quantum level to a direct channel between the graviton and the weak bosons.

Parity-violating Dark Photon Halos

We propose a mechanism for the generation of gravitationally bound dark photon halos during the matter-dominated era. Coupled to an ultralight axion field through a parity-violating Chern-Simons term, dark photons can be produced by the tachyonic instability of axion coherent oscillation. The dark photons with a net helicity lead to a metric vorticity and can generate chiral substructures. For axion masses in the range $10^{-28} \, \mathrm{eV} \lesssim m_a \lesssim 10^{-22} \, \mathrm{eV}$, the resulting inhomogeneities collapse to form halos with masses spanning $M_{\rm halo} \sim 10^5 \, M_{\odot}$ to $10^{11} \, M_{\odot}$, with halo sizes ranging from $O(1)$ to $O(10^{6}) \, \mathrm{pc}$. During halo collapse, the induced vorticity could mediate efficient angular-momentum transport, which enables monolithic collapse and provides primordial seeds for the early formation of supermassive black holes.

Cosmology of Gravi-Axions

We show how a mass term for gravitational axions (''gravi-axions'') with a Chern-Simons coupling to gravity can naturally arise due to non-perturbative contributions from Euclidean wormholes, breaking the continuous shift symmetry of the standard theory. The induced mass can be generated in a cosmologically relevant range to be the dark matter or dark energy of the universe for a reasonable and well-motivated range of the symmetry breaking scale. Upon generating the gravi-axion mass term, we discuss the cosmology of the theory. We find that the gravi-axion can be produced to be the dominant dark matter component via misalignment or gravitational particle production, and that in a different regime, the gravi-axion can act as dynamical dark energy. We discuss gravi-axion decay into gravitons as a potential observational window for this theory. Finally, we find that, for late-time, astrophysical compact objects, cosmologically relevant gravi-axions behave as minimally-coupled, massive scalar fields.

Quantum Gravity, de Sitter Space, and Normalizability

We propose a resolution to the longstanding problem of perturbative normalizability in canonical quantum gravity of the Lorentzian Chern-Simons-Kodama (CSK) state with a positive cosmological constant in four dimensions. While the CSK state is an exact solution to the Hamiltonian constraint in the self-dual formulation and semiclassically describes de Sitter spacetime, its physical viability has been questioned due to apparent nonnormalizability and CPT asymmetry. Starting from a nonperturbative holomorphic inner product derived from the reality conditions of the self-dual Ashtekar variables, we show that the linearization, in terms of gravitons, of the CSK state is perturbatively normalizable for super-Planckian cosmological constant. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a rotation in phase space, a generalization of Thiemann's complexifier, can render the full perturbative state normalizable for all $Λ$ by analytically continuing the non-convergent modes in phase space. This provides the first concrete realization of a CPT-breaking, yet normalizable, gravitational vacuum state rooted in a nonperturbative quantum gravity framework. Our results establish the CSK state-long thought formal-as a viable candidate for the ground state of quantum gravity in de Sitter space.

The Kalb-Ramond field and Gravitational Parity Violation

Gravitational wave physics can probe theories that extend beyond General Relativity. Motivated by the attention on the Kalb-Ramond field as a dark matter candidate, in this work, we study a parity violating dimension four operator which couples the dual Riemann curvature to the 2-form field. After mapping the equations of motion for the right- and left-handed gravitational wave amplitudes to the novel parameterization presented in \cite{Jenks:2023pmk}, we discuss constraints on the model parameters in light of the coincident electromagnetic/gravitational wave signal of GW170817.

GraviGUT unification with revisited Pati-Salam model

We propose a graviGUT unification scheme based on the simple orthogonal group $\mathrm{SO}(1,9 ,\mathbb{C})$ that resolves the chiral duplication of weak isospin in Pati--Salam models. In the conventional $SU(4)\times SU(2)_+\times SU(2)_-$ framework, the unobserved second chiral $SU(2)$ is typically removed by ad hoc high-energy scale breaking. Here we instead \emph{geometrize} it: one $SU(2)$ factor is identified with a chiral half of the Lorentz group, so it belongs to gravity rather than to an additional weak force. This identification becomes natural inside $\mathrm{SO}(1,9 ,\mathbb{C})$, where the algebra decomposes as $\mathfrak{so}(1,3)_{\mathbb{C}}\oplus\mathfrak{so}(6)_{\mathbb{C}}\oplus(\text{coset})$. We construct a parity-symmetric chiral action that, upon breaking \emph{dynamically} selects one chirality: the surviving Yang--Mills factor is identified with $SU(2)_+$, while the opposite chirality persists as the gravitational chiral connection. These lead to concrete phenomenological handles, including graviton and weak-boson vertices with the other fundamental forces in $SU(3)$ and $U(1)$ and parity-sensitive gravitational-wave signatures, that distinguish the $\mathrm{SO}(1,9,\mathbb{C})$ construction from both traditional Pati--Salam and larger, less economical unifications.

Hybrid Inflation from Fermion Condensate

We investigate how inflation can emerge from four-fermion interactions generated by spacetime torsion, eliminating the need for additional scalar fields beyond the Standard Model. We partition fermions in two sectors and introduce two bound fields. In the effective theory approach, once all the fermions have been integrated out, the bound fields serve as the inflaton and the auxiliary field, in analogy to the hybrid inflation and accounting for a waterfall (hybrid) mechanism. The inclusion of an axial chemical potential naturally facilitates the end of reheating. During the waterfall regime, the effective potential governing the fermion condensate supports the formation of non-topological solitons, known as Q-balls, which can be accounted for seeding primordial black holes (PBHs).
