Photometric monitoring of PMS stars with the telescopes at Rozhen Observatory

For several decades we have been performing photometric monitoring of some of the star formation regions. Significant place in our program take observations of objects of the type FU Orionis, EX Lupi, UX Orionis and other similar but unclassified objects. These three types of young variable objects show changes in brightness with large amplitudes and attract the attention of star formation researchers. But it is not always possible to distinguish them from each other without the presence of long-term multicolor photometric data. For this reason, we collect data from current CCD observations and supplement them with data from the photographic plates archives. In this paper, we show the latest data from optical photometric studies of four PMS objects (V2493 Cyg, V582 Aur, V733 Cep and V1180 Tau) made at the Rozhen Observatory. Our monitoring is carried out in $BVRI$ filters, which allows studying the variability in color indexes also. By analysis the historical light curves of these objects we are trying to obtain information about the processes associated with the early stages of stellar evolution.

Study of the long-term $BVR_{c}I_{c}$ photometric variability of eight PMS stars in the young open cluster Trumpler 37

This paper reports results from our long-term $BV(RI)_{c}$ photometric CCD observations of eight pre-main-sequence stars collected from June 2008 to October 2022. These stars are located in the young open cluster Trumpler 37, in the field of GM Cephei. The observational data indicate that all stars from our study exhibit variability in all-optical passbands, typical for young stars. In this paper, we describe and discuss the photometric behavior of the stars and the possible reasons for their variability. For two of the objects, we identified periodicity in their light variation.

Long-term Photometric Study of the Pre-main Sequence Star V1180 Cas

In this paper results from the optical photometric observations of the pre-main-sequence star V1180 Cas are reported. The star is a young variable associated with the dark cloud Lynds 1340, located at a distance of 600 pc from the Sun in the star forming region in Cassiopeia. V1180 Cas shows a large amplitude variability interpreted as a combination of accretion-induced and extinction-driven effects. Our data from VRI CCD photometric observations of the star are collected from September 2011 to February 2022. During our monitoring, we recorded several brightness dips with large amplitudes of up to 5 mag. (I-band). At the same time, increases in brightness over periods of several weeks have also been recorded. In this paper, we compare the photometric data obtained for V1180 Cas with observations of other low-mass pre-main sequence objects.

The FUor star V2493 Cyg (HBC 722) -- eleven years at maximum brightness

At the time of stellar evolution, young stellar objects go through processes of increased activity and instability. Star formation takes place in several stages during which the star accumulates enough mass to initiate thermonuclear reactions in the nucleus. A significant percentage of the mass of Sun-like stars accumulates during periods of increased accretion known as FUor outbursts. Since we know only about two dozen stars of this type, the study of each new object is very important for our knowledge. In this paper, we present data from photometric monitoring on a FUor object V2493 Cyg discovered in 2010. Our data were obtained in the optical region with BVRI Johnson-Cousins set of filters during the period from November 2016 to February 2021. The results of our observations show that during this period no significant changes in the brightness of the star were registered. We only detect variations with a small amplitude around the maximum brightness value. Thus, since 2013 V2493 Cyg remains at its maximum brightness, without a decrease in brightness. Such photometric behavior is not typical of other stars from FUor type. Usually the light curves of FUors are asymmetrical, with a very rapid rise and gradual decline of the brightness. V2493 Cyg remains unique in this respect with a very rapid rise in brightness and prolonged retention in maximum light. Our period analysis made for the interval February 2013 - February 2021 reveals a well-defined period of 914+/-10 days. Such periodicity can be explained by dust structures remaining from star formation in orbit around the star.

Long-term optical photometric monitoring of the FUor star V900 Mon

We present results from photometric monitoring of V900 Mon, one of the newly discovered and still under-studied object from FU Orionis type. FUor phenomenon is very rarely observed, but it is essential for stellar evolution. Since we only know about twenty stars of this type, the study of each new object is very important for our knowledge. Our data was obtained in the optical spectral region with BVRI Johnson-Cousins set of filters during the period from September 2011 to April 2021. In order to follow the photometric history of the object, we measured its stellar magnitudes on the available plates from the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes. The collected archival data suggests that the rise in brightness of V900 Mon began after January 1989 and the outburst goes so far. In November 2009, when the outburst was registered, the star had already reached a level of brightness close to the current one. Our observations indicate that during the period 2011-2017 the stellar magnitude increased gradually in each pass band. The observed amplitude of the outburst is about 4 magnitudes (R). During the last three years, the increase in brightness has stopped and there has even been a slight decline. The comparison of the light curves of the known FUor objects shows that they are very diverse and are rarely repeated. However, the photometric data we have so far shows that the V900 Mon's light curve is somewhat similar to this of V1515 Cyg and V733 Cep.

New Results from Long-time Photometric Study of UX Orionis Star GM Cephei

New results from long-term optical photometric observations of the pre-main sequence star GM Cep from UX Orionis type are reported. During ongoing photometric monitoring of the GM Cep four deep minimums in brightness are observed. The collected multicolour photometric data shows the typical of UXor variables colour reversal during the minimums in brightness. Recent $BVRI$ photometric observations of GM Cep have been collected from November 2014 to October 2020.

Long-term $V(RI)_{c}$ CCD photometry of pre-main-sequence stars in the association Cepheus OB3

Results from optical CCD photometric observations of 13 pre-main-sequence stars collected during the period from February 2007 to November 2020 are presented. These stars are located in the association Cepheus OB3, in the field of the young star V733 Cephei. Photometric observations, especially concerning the long-term variability of the stars, are missing in the literature. We present the first long-term $V(RI)_{c}$ monitoring for them, that cover 13 years. Results from our study indicate that all of the investigated stars manifest strong photometric variability. The presented paper is a part of our program for the photometric study of PMS stars located in active star-forming regions.

BV(RI)c photometric study of three variable PMS stars in the field of V733 Cephei

This paper report results from the first long-term BV(RI)c photometric CCD observations of three variable pre-main-sequence stars collected during the period from February 2007 to January 2020. The investigated stars are located in the field of the PMS star V733 Cep within the Cepheus OB3 association. All stars from our study show rapid photometric variability in all-optical passbands. In this paper, we describe and discuss the photometric behavior of these stars and the possible reasons for their variability. In the light variation of two of the stars we found periodicity.

Long-term BVRI photometric light curves of 15 PMS stars in the IC 5070 star-forming region

This paper reports the results from the multicolor photometric observations of 15 pre-main sequence stars collected in the period 2010 September - 2017 October. The stars from our study are located in the star-forming HII region IC 5070. These objects were previously detected as either emission line stars, flare stars, T Tauri variables or Herbig Ae/Be stars. Photometric observations, especially concerning the long-term behavior of the objects are missing in the literature. We present the first photometric monitoring for all stars from our study. The analysis of the obtained BVRI photometric data allows to draw a conclusion that all investigated objects are variable stars. In the case of LkHa 146 we identified previously unknown periodicity in its photometric variability.

Multicolor photometric behavior of the young stellar object V1704 Cygni

Results from BVRI photometric observations of the pre-main sequence star V1704 Cyg collected during the time period from August 2010 to December 2017 are presented. The star is located in the star-forming HII region IC 5070 and it exhibits photometric variability in all-optical passbands. After analyzing the obtained data, V1704 Cyg is classified as a classical T Tauri star.

Long-term photometric observations in the field of the star formation region NGC7129

We present results from long-term optical photometric observations of the Pre-Main Sequence (PMS) stars, located in the star formation region around the bright nebula NGC 7129. Using the long-term light curves and spectroscopic data, we tried to classify the PMS objects in the field and to define the reasons for the observed brightness variations. Our main goal is to explore the known PMS stars and discover new, young, variable stars. The new variable PMS star 2MASS J21403576+6635000 exhibits unusual brightness variations for very short time intervals (few minutes or hours) with comparatively large amplitudes (Delta I = 2.65 mag).

A long-term UBVRI photometric study of the pre-main sequence star V350 Cep

Results from UBVRI optical photometric observations of the pre-main sequence star V350 Cep during the period 2004-2014 are presented. The star was discovered in 1977 due to its remarkable increase in brightness by more than 5 mag (R). In previous studies, V350 Cep was considered a to be a potential FUor or EXor eruptive variables. Our data suggest that during the period of observations the star maintains its maximum brightness with low amplitude photometric variations. Our conclusion is that V350 Cep was probably an intermediate object between FUors and EXors, similar to V1647 Ori.

The new FUor star HBC 722 - one year after the outburst

The first results from studies of the new FU Orionis star found in the field of NGC 7000 are presented in the paper. During the year passing from the registration of outburst at fourteen papers containing data from observations of this object have been published in the astronomical journals. These publications present photometric and spectral observations of HBC 722 ranging from the far infrared to X-ray wavelength region. HBC 722 is the first FU Orionis object, whose outburst was observed from its very beginning in all spectral ranges. We expect that the interest in this object will increase in the coming years and the results will help to explore the nature of young stars.

The FUor Candidate V582 Aurigae: First Photometric and Spectroscopic Observations

One of the most attractive events in the pre-main sequence evolution is the FU Orionis (FUor) outburst. Because only a small number of FUor stars have been detected to date, photometric and spectral studies of every new object are of great interest. Recently, a new FUor candidate was discovered by Anton Khruslov - V582 Aur. To confirm the FUors nature of this object we started regular photometric observations with the telescopes of the National Astronomical Observatory Rozhen (Bulgaria). A high-resolution spectrum of V582 Aur was obtained with the 1.93 m telescope in Haute-Provence Observatory (France).
