Late-Time Emergence of Dark Energy and Its Interaction with Dark Matter

We present an interacting scenario between dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM), where DE has an emergent nature, that means, DE was absent in the early universe but it becomes effective only at late times. We consider two specific emergent DE models, one with no free parameters and the other featuring two parameters describing the speed and epoch of the transition. We constrain both scenarios using the cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements from the Planck 2018 release, baryon acoustic oscillations from DESI DR2, and three different compilations of Type Ia supernovae (PantheonPlus, DES-Dovekie, and Union3). Our analysis indicates that current cosmological probes are not able to tightly constrain the speed of the transition. For both scenarios, the posterior distribution of the interaction parameter is shifted away from zero at more than 95\% CL whenever the CMB data are combined with any of these additional probes, with the preferred direction corresponding to a transfer of energy from DE to DM. While CMB alone yields a high value of $H_0$, in agreement with local determinations, this effect is reduced when DESI is added and disappears once supernova data are included. In contrast, the clustering parameter $S_8$ is consistently shifted toward lower values in the combined datasets, and it is correlated with the preference for a negative interaction. However, according to the $Δχ^2_{\rm min}$ and Bayesian evidence, none of the interacting models is favored over $Λ$CDM or $w_0w_a$CDM, indicating that the interaction does not rescue these emergent DE models. Our results therefore highlight the limitations of these scenarios in addressing current cosmological tensions, while pointing to the crucial role of future data in further assessing their viability.

Accelerating scaling solutions from dark matter particle creation

This article opens new window to obtain accelerating scaling attractors without any need of dark energy. We study cosmological dynamics in a two-fluid system where pressureless dark matter (DM) undergoes adiabatic particle creation and exchanges energy with a barotropic fluid. Considering six widely used interaction prescriptions, we formulate the corresponding autonomous systems in a compact phase space and perform a unified dynamical analysis. We find that accelerating scaling attractors, namely late-time states where both fluids coexist with fixed energy fractions, arise only when the interaction is controlled by the DM density and energy flows from DM to the second fluid. Such attractors appear in the global and local DM-based interactions, and in the global mixed case, but are entirely absent when the interaction depends on the second fluid or on local mixed terms, which instead drive the universe to a DM-dominated accelerating phase. These results clarify the unique conditions under which matter creation can mimic dark-energy-like behaviour without introducing a dark-energy component.

Raychaudhuri Equation and Weyl-Driven Shear: A Weak-Field Approach to Lensing and Gravitational Waves

The letter studies phenomena like gravitational wave propagation and gravitational lensing using the celebrated Raychaudhuri equation (RE) in the weak field limit. Newtonian analogue of Relativistic RE has been explored. In doing so, role of shear has been found to be extremely important in explaining these phenomena. Consequently, the RE for shear has been used in course of the study and importance of Weyl curvature tensor in lensing and gravity wave propagation has been explicitly shown using a damped harmonic oscillator approach.

Quasinormal modes and Grey body factors of Wormholes: From General prescription to Einstein Gauss Bonnet realizations

Traversable wormholes are one of the most exciting predictions of General Relativity that offer short-cuts through space-time. However, their feasibility requires the violation of the null energy condition and makes their detection a bit difficult. This paper aims to show the new avenues delving deep into the observational prospects of TWHs via quasinormal modes (QNMs) and gray body factors GBFs. These are the two elementary aspects of wave dynamics. Given their distinct spectral imprints, these features provide a potential means to distinguish wormholes from black holes in gravitational wave observations. The role of QNMs in characterizing the ringdown phase of perturbations and the GBFs in determining transmission probabilities through wormhole barriers have been explored by a general description and then fed to Einstein Gauss Bonnet WH solutions in isotropic as well as anisotropic cases. Finally, a correspondence of the QNM frequencies with radius of the WH shadows has been made and the effect of Gauss Bonnet parameter on the QNM spectra has been discussed.

Matter Creation Cosmologies and Accelerated Expansion

Non-conservation of dark matter can lead to late-time cosmic acceleration. This mechanism is known as the matter creation theory and this replaces the need of dark energy and modified gravity theories. We consider a two-fluid system consisting of a cold dark matter and a second fluid with constant barotropic equation of state. We performed detailed investigations of such cosmologies using the powerful techniques of qualitative analysis of dynamical systems. Considering a wide variety of the creation rates, we examine the phase space analysis of the individual scenario. According to our analyses, these scenarios predict decelerating unstable dark matter (or second fluid) dominated critical points, accelerating attractors dominated either by dark matter or the second fluid, accelerating scaling attractors in which dark matter and the second fluid co-exist. The regime of late-time accelerating expansion can be classified as either quintessence, phantom or driven by a cosmological constant. This huge variety of critical points makes these scenarios phenomenologically rich, and naturally suggests that such scenarios can be viewed as viable and potential alternatives to the mainstream cosmological models.

Wormholes: Myth or Reality? Prospects for Future Observations

Traversable wormholes (TWHs) remain one of the most intriguing predictions of General Relativity (GR), offering passage through space-time. However, their existence requires the violation of the null energy condition, making their detection a bit challenging. The essay aims at showing the new avenues probing the observational prospects of TWHs via quasinormal modes and grey body factors, the two fundamental aspects in wave dynamics. The role of QNMs in characterizing the ringdown phase of perturbations and the grey body factors in determining transmission probabilities through wormhole barriers has been investigated. Given their distinct spectral imprints, these features provide a potential means to distinguish wormholes from black holes in gravity wave observations. Advances in high-precision interferometry and multi-messenger astronomy may soon offer crucial insights into the existence of these exotic structures. Classical and Quantum cosmology for two scalar field Brans-Dicke type theory: A Noether Symmetry approach

The paper deals with a cosmological model containing two scalar fields which can be considered as an extension of the Brans-Dicke scalar field model. Due to highly coupled non linear field equations, Noether Symmetry analysis has been imposed and as a result the Lagrangian as well as the field equations become much simple in form to have the classical solutions. The relevant cosmological parameters are analyzed graphically. Finally, quantum cosmology has been studied by constructing the Wheeler-DeWitt equation and the solution of this second order partial differential equation has been done using this symmetry analysis.

Exploring Traversable Wormholes in $f(Q)$ gravity: Shadows and Quasinormal modes

The present work deals with some WH solutions in $f(Q)$ gravity theory for non-constant red-shift function subject to a power law model of $f(Q)$, $Q$ being the non-metricity scalar. Important properties of a WH configuration like the asymptotic flatness, traversability, flairing out condition and energy conditions have been checked for the obtained solutions. Shadows for these WHs have been determined and effect of non-metricity has been discussed. Finally, the paper gives an essence of Quasinormal modes and grey body factors for traversable WHs in general and $f(Q)$ wormholes in particular indicating a distinct signature of non-metricity influencing these observational tools.

Probing the cold nature of dark matter

A pressureless dark matter component fits well with several cosmological observations. However, there are indications that cold dark matter may encounter challenges in explaining observations at small scales, particularly at galactic scales. Observational data suggest that dark matter models incorporating a pressure component could provide solutions to these small-scale problems. In this work, we investigate the possibility that present-day dark matter may result from a decaying non-cold dark matter sector transitioning into the dark energy sector. As the sensitivity of astronomical surveys rapidly increases, we explore an interacting scenario between dark energy and non-cold dark matter, where dark energy has a constant equation of state ($w_{\rm de}$), and dark matter, being non-cold, also has a constant (non-zero) equation of state ($w_{\rm dm}$). Considering the phantom and quintessence nature of dark energy, characterized by its equation of state, we separately analyze interacting phantom and interacting quintessence scenarios. We constrain these scenarios using Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) measurements and their combination with external probes, such as DESI-BAO and PantheonPlus. From our analyses, we find that a very mild preference for non-cold dark matter cannot be excluded based on the employed datasets. Additionally, for some datasets, there is a pronounced preference for the presence of an interaction at more than 95\% confidence level (CL). Moreover, when the dark energy equation of state lies in the phantom regime, the $S_8$ tension can be alleviated. This study suggests that cosmological models incorporating a non-cold dark matter component should be considered as viable scenarios with novel phenomenological implications, as reflected in the present work.

Geodesic Motion and Particle Confinements in Cylindrical Wormhole Spacetime: Exploring Closed Timelike Curves

In this study, the geodesic motion of a test particle along with its confinement is investigated within Cylindrically Symmetric Wormhole spacetime admitting to Closed Timelike Curves. The confinement of particles with or without angular momentum is also investigated. It is found that particles with positive angular momentum that co-rotates with the spacetime can only pass through the causality violating region. Particles with only non-zero angular momentum are present in the vicinity of the Closed Timelike Curves.

Investigating Evolving Wormholes in $f(R,T)$ Gravity

The present work examines whether evolving wormhole solution is possible or not in $f(R,T)$ modified gravity theory. In the background of inhomogeneous FLRW type wormhole configuration the field equations are investigated for different choices of scale factors and shape functions. For the power law and exponential choice of the scale factor from cosmological context and decoupled power law of $f(R,T)$ in each variable, wormhole configuration has been examined for two viable choices of shape function. Energy conditions are examined graphically for a range of values of the parameters involved. Finally, the possibility of emergent scenario at early cosmic evolution has been examined.

Focusing of a congruence of time-like geodesics has been examined for three generic choices of the fractal function. Finally, comments on the existence and possible avoidance of the initial big-bang singularity have been made by examining the sign of convergence scalar in the fractal models under consideration.

Evolving wormhole formation in dRGT massive gravity

In this study, we have examined the evolving wormhole solution within Einstein-massive gravity, considering traceless, barotropic, and anisotropic pressure fluids. We have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the constraints imposed by the constants derived from the wormhole solution. It is found that the wormhole throat, situated between two asymptotic universes, undergoes simultaneous expansion with acceleration. A detailed investigation of the energy conditions for traceless, barotropic, and anisotropic fluids suggests a wide range of possibilities for evolving wormhole configurations with non-exotic matter at the throat. The dependency of this feature on the various parameters arising from the study has also been examined.

Curvature form of Raychaudhuri equation and its consequences: A geometric approach

The paper aims at deriving a curvature form of the famous Raychaudhuri equation (RE) and the associated criteria for focusing of a hyper-surface orthogonal congruence of time-like geodesic. Moreover, the paper identifies a transformation of variable related to the metric scalar of the hyper-surface which converts the first order RE into a second order differential equation that resembles an equation of a Harmonic oscillator and also gives a first integral that yields the analytic solution of the RE and Lagrangian of the dynamical system representing the congruence.

Dynamics: A different outlook

The present article deals with general mechanics in an unconventional manner. At first, Newtonian mechanics for a point particle has been described in vectorial picture, considering Cartesian, polar and tangent-normal formulations in a unified manner. An extensive differential geometric notions have been used when motion on curved surfaces has been considered. Both the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulations have been discussed with various examples. The relevant part of the calculus of variation has been presented in the appendix. Also, a detailed study about the nature of the Lagrangian has been shown in the appendix and it has been found that the usual Lagrangian can be extended to curved space-time using the notion of differential geometry. The article may be suitable both for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Classical and quantum analysis of gravitational singularity from Raychaudhuri equation

The present work deals with the Raychaudhuri equation (RE) to examine the space-time singularity both from classical and quantum point of view. The RE has been looked upon in terms of a classical linear Harmonic oscillator and Focusing theorem has been studied. Also, the Raychaudhuri scalar has been shown to affect the convergence and singularity formation in Black-holes and cosmology. Finally, resolution of initial big-bang singularity has been attempted quantum mechanically in two ways namely by canonical quantization and by formulation of Bohmian trajectories.
