Analytic topological hairy dyonic black holes and thermodynamics

We present and discuss a new family of topological hairy dyonic black hole solutions in asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. The coupled Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar gravity system, that carries both the electric and magnetic charges is solved, and exact hairy dyonic black hole solutions are obtained analytically. The scalar field profiles that give rise to such black hole solutions are regular everywhere. The hairy solutions are obtained for planar, spherical, and hyperbolic horizon topologies. In addition, analytic expressions of regularized action, stress tensor, conserved charges, and free energies are obtained. We further comment on different prescriptions for computing the black hole mass with hairy backgrounds. We analyze the thermodynamics of these hairy dyonic black holes in canonical and grand canonical ensembles, and we find that both electric and magnetic charges have a constructive effect on the stability of the hairy solution. For the case of planar and hyperbolic horizons, we find thermodynamically stable hairy black holes which are favoured at low temperatures compared to the non-hairy counterparts. We further find that, for a spherical hairy dyonic black hole, the thermodynamic phase diagram resembles to that of a Van der Waals fluid not only in canonical but also in the grand canonical ensemble.

Chiral transition in the probe approximation from an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity model

We refine an earlier introduced 5-dimensional gravity solution capable of holographically capturing several qualitative aspects of (lattice) QCD in a strong magnetic background such as the anisotropic behaviour of the string tension, inverse catalysis at the level of the deconfinement transition or sensitivity of the entanglement entropy to the latter. Here, we consistently modify our solution of the considered Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system to not only overcome an unphysical flattening at large distances in the quark-antiquark potential plaguing earlier work, but also to encapsulate inverse catalysis for the chiral transition in the probe approximation. This brings our dynamical holographic QCD model yet again closer to a stage at which it can be used to predict magnetic QCD quantities not directly computable via lattice techniques.

Mixed state entanglement measures as probe for confinement

We study holographic aspects of mixed state entanglement measures in various large $N$ top-down as well as bottom-up confining models. For the top-down models, we consider wrapped $D3$ and $D4$ branes gravity solutions whereas, for the bottom-up confining model, the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity solution is considered. We study entanglement entropy, mutual information, entanglement wedge cross-section and entanglement negativity for the strip subsystems and find model independent features of these entanglement measures in all confining theories. The entanglement negativity and entropy exhibit a phase transition at the same critical strip length $L_{crit}$, at which the order of these measures changes from $\mathcal{O}(N^2)$ to $\mathcal{O}(N^0)$. The entanglement wedge cross-section similarly shows an order change at $L_{crit}$ and exhibits a discontinuous behaviour each time a phase transition between different entangling surfaces occur. We further test the inequality involving mutual information and entanglement wedge cross-section, and find that the latter always exceeds half of the former.

A note on the total action of $4D$ Gauss-Bonnet theory

Recently, a novel four-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet theory has been suggested as a limiting case of the original $D$-dimensional theory with singular Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $α\rightarrowα/(D-4)$. The theory is proposed at the level of field equations. Here we analyse this theory at the level of action. We find that the on-shell action and surface terms split into parts, one of which does not scale like $(D-4)$. The limiting $D\rightarrow4$ procedure, therefore, gives unphysical divergences in the on-shell action and surface terms in four dimensions. We further highlight various issues related to the computation of counterterms in this theory.

Exact topological charged hairy black holes in AdS Space in $D$-dimensions

We present a new family of topological charged hairy black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS space in $D$-dimensions. We solve the coupled Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar gravity system and obtain exact charged hairy black hole solutions with planar, spherical and hyperbolic horizon topologies. The scalar field is regular everywhere. We discuss the thermodynamics of the hairy black hole and find drastic changes in its thermodynamic structure due to the scalar field. For the case of planar and spherical horizons, we find charged hairy/RN-AdS black hole phase transition, with thermodynamically preferred and stable charged hairy phases at low temperature. For the case of hyperbolic horizon, no such transition occurs and RN-AdS black holes are always thermodynamically favoured.

Anisotropic string tensions and inversely magnetic catalyzed deconfinement from a dynamical AdS/QCD model

We extend previous work on dynamical AdS/QCD models by introducing an extra ingredient under the form of a background magnetic field, this to gain insight into the influence such field can have on crucial QCD observables. Therefore, we construct a closed form analytic solution to an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system with a magnetic field. We specifically focus on the deconfinement transition, reporting inverse magnetic catalysis, and on the string tension, reporting a weaker/stronger confinement along/perpendicular to the magnetic field. The latter, being of importance to potential modelling of heavy quarkonia, is in qualitative agreement with lattice findings.

Interplay between the holographic QCD phase diagram and mutual & $n$-partite information

In earlier work, we studied holographic entanglement entropy in QCD phases using a dynamical Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity model whose dual boundary theory mimics essential features of QCD above and below deconfinement. The model although displays subtle differences compared to the standard QCD phases, however, it introduces a notion of temperature in the phase below the deconfinement critical temperature and captures quite well the entanglement and thermodynamic properties of QCD phases. Here we extend our analysis to study the mutual and $n$-partite information by considering $n$ strips with equal lengths and equal separations, and investigate how these quantities leave their imprints in holographic QCD phases. We discover a rich phase diagram with $n\geq2$ strips and the corresponding mutual and $n$-partite information shows rich structure, consistent with the thermodynamical transitions, while again revealing some subtleties. Below the deconfinement critical temperature, we find no dependence of the mutual and $n$-partite information on temperature and chemical potential.

On the time dependence of holographic complexity in a dynamical Einstein-dilaton model

We study the holographic "complexity=action'" (CA) and "complexity=volume" (CV) proposals in Einstein-dilaton gravity in all spacetime dimensions. We analytically construct an infinite family of black hole solutions and use CA and CV proposals to investigate the time evolution of the complexity. Using the CA proposal, we find dimensional dependent violation of the Lloyd bound in early as well as in late times. Moreover, depending on the parameters of the theory, the bound violation relative to the conformal field theory result can be tailored in the early times as well. In contrast to the CA proposal, the CV proposal in our model yields results similar to those obtained in the literature.

Interplay between the holographic QCD phase diagram and entanglement entropy

In earlier work, we introduced a dynamical Einstein--Maxwell--dilaton model which mimics essential features of QCD (thermodynamics) below and above deconfinement. Although there are some subtle differences in the confining regime of our model as compared to the standard results, we do have a temperature dependent dual metric below $T_c$ as well, allowing for a richer and more realistic holographic modeling of the QCD phase structure. We now discuss how these features leave their imprints on the associated entanglement entropy when a strip region is introduced in the various phases. We uncover an even so rich structure in the entanglement entropy, consistent with the thermodynamical transitions, while again uncloaking some subtleties. Thanks to the temperature dependent confining geometry, we can present an original quantitative prediction for the phase diagram in terms of temperature and strip length, reporting a critical end point at the deconfinement temperature. We also generalize to the case with chemical potential.

Thermal entropy of a quark-antiquark pair above and below deconfinement from a dynamical holographic QCD model

We discuss the entropy carried by a quark-antiquark pair, in particular across the deconfinement transition. We therefore rely on a self-consistent solution to Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity, capable of mimicking essential features of QCD. In particular we introduce a novel model that still captures well the QCD confinement and deconfinement phases, while allowing the introduction of a temperature in a phase which resembles the confined phase, this thanks to it being dual to a small black hole. We pay due attention to some subtleties of such model. We confirm the lattice picture of a strong build-up of thermal entropy towards the critical temperature T_c, both coming from below or above T_c. We also include a chemical potential, confirming this entropic picture and we consider its effect on the speed of sound. Moreover, the temperature dependent confinement phase from the holography side allows us to find a string tension that does not vanish at T_c, a finding also supported by lattice QCD.

Confining gauge theories and holographic entanglement entropy with a magnetic field

We consider the soft wall model for a heuristic holographical modelling of a confining gauge theory and discuss how the introduction of a (constant) magnetic field influences the (de)confinement phase structure. We use the entanglement entropy as a diagnostic tool in terms of the length of an entangling strip geometry. Due to the anisotropy introduced by the magnetic field, we find that the results depend on the orientation of the strip relative to the field. This allows to identify a richer, anisotropic, interplay between confinement and a magnetic field than possibly can be extracted from a more standard order parameter as, for example, the Polyakov loop expectation value.

Logarithmic Black Hole Entropy Corrections and Holographic Rényi Entropy

The entanglement and Rényi entropies for spherical entangling surfaces in CFTs with gravity duals can be explicitly calculated by mapping these entropies first to the thermal entropy on hyperbolic space and then, using the AdS/CFT correspondence, to the Wald entropy of topological black holes. Here we extend this idea by taking into account corrections to the Wald entropy. Using the method based on horizon symmetries and the asymptotic Cardy formula, we calculate corrections to the Wald entropy and find that these corrections are proportional to the logarithm of horizon area. With the corrected black hole entropy expression, we then find corrections to the Rényi entropies. We calculate these corrections for both Einstein as well as Gauss-Bonnet gravity duals. Corrections with logarithmic dependence on the area of the entangling surface naturally occur at the order $G_{D}^0$ and it seems to be a general feature of entanglement and Rényi entropies for CFTs with gravity duals. In particular, there is a logarithmic correction to the entropy in odd boundary spacetime dimensions as well.

Thermodynamics, Phase Transition and Quasinormal modes with Weyl corrections

We study charged black holes in D dimensional AdS space, in the presence of four derivative Weyl correction. We obtain the black hole solution perturbatively up to first as well as second order in the Weyl coupling, and show that first law of black hole thermodynamics is satisfied in all dimensions. We study its thermodynamic phase transition and then calculate the quasinormal frequencies of the massless scalar field perturbation. We find that, here too, the quasinormal frequencies capture the essence of black hole phase transition. Few subtleties near the second order critical point are discussed.

Holographic Thermalization with Weyl Corrections

We consider holographic thermalization in the presence of a Weyl correction in five dimensional AdS space. We first obtain the Weyl corrected black brane solution perturbatively, up to first order in the coupling. The corresponding AdS-Vaidya like solution is then constructed. This is then used to numerically analyze the time dependence of the two point correlation functions and the expectation values of rectangular Wilson loops in the boundary field theory, and we discuss how the Weyl correction can modify the thermalization time scales in the dual field theory. In this context, the subtle interplay between the Weyl coupling constant and the chemical potential is studied in detail.

Thermodynamics and Entanglement Entropy with Weyl Corrections

We consider charged black holes in four dimensional AdS space, in the presence of a Weyl correction. We obtain the solution including the effect of back-reaction, perturbatively up to first order in the Weyl coupling, and study its thermodynamic properties. This is complemented by a calculation of the holographic entanglement entropy of the boundary theory. The consistency of results obtained from both computations is established.

Information Geometry and the Renormalization Group

Information theoretic geometry near critical points in classical and quantum systems is well understood for exactly solvable systems. Here we show that renormalization group flow equations can be used to construct the information metric and its associated quantities near criticality, for both classical and quantum systems, in an universal manner. We study this metric in various cases and establish its scaling properties in several generic examples. Scaling relations on the parameter manifold involving scalar quantities are studied, and scaling exponents are identified. The meaning of the scalar curvature and the invariant geodesic distance in information geometry is established and substantiated from a renormalization group perspective.

Generalized Superconductors and Holographic Optics - II

Using linear response theory, we analyze optical response properties of generalized holographic superconductors, in AdS-Schwarzschild and single R-charged black hole backgrounds in four dimensions. By introducing momentum dependent vector mode perturbations, the response functions for these systems are studied numerically, including the effects of backreaction. This complements and completes the probe limit analysis for these backgrounds initiated in our previous work ({\tt arXiv : 1305.6273}). Our numerical analysis indicates a negative Depine-Lakhtakia index for both the backgrounds studied, at low enough frequencies. The dependence of the response functions on the backreaction parameter and the model parameters are established and analyzed with respect to similar backgrounds in five dimensions.

Very General Holographic Superconductors and Entanglement Thermodynamics

We construct and analyze holographic superconductors with generalized higher derivative couplings, in single R-charged black hole backgrounds in four and five dimensions. These systems, which we call very general holographic superconductors, have multiple tuning parameters and are shown to exhibit a rich phase structure. We establish the phase diagram numerically as well as by computing the free energy, and then validated the results by calculating the entanglement entropy for these systems. The entanglement entropy is shown to be a perfect indicator of the phase diagram. The differences in the nature of the entanglement entropy in R-charged backgrounds compared to the AdS-Schwarzschild cases are pointed out. We also compute the analogue of the entangling temperature for a subclass of these systems and compare the results with non-hairy backgrounds.
