The Trimmed Mean in Non-parametric Regression Function Estimation

This article studies a trimmed version of the Nadaraya-Watson estimator to estimate the unknown non-parametric regression function. The characterization of the estimator through minimization problem is established, and its pointwise asymptotic distribution is also derived. The robustness property of the proposed estimator is also studied through breakdown point. Besides, the asymptotic efficiency study along with an extensive simulation study shows that this estimator performs well for various cases. The practicability of the estimator is shown for three benchmark real data as well.

Identifying shifts between two regression curves

This article studies the problem whether two convex (concave) regression functions modelling the relation between a response and covariate in two samples differ by a shift in the horizontal and/or vertical axis. We consider a nonparametric situation assuming only smoothness of the regression functions. A graphical tool based on the derivatives of the regression functions and their inverses is proposed to answer this question and studied in several examples. We also formalize this question in a corresponding hypothesis and develop a statistical test. The asymptotic properties of the corresponding test statistic are investigated under the null hypothesis and local alternatives. In contrast to most of the literature on comparing shape invariant models, which requires independent data the procedure is applicable for dependent and non-stationary data. We also illustrate the finite sample properties of the new test by means of a small simulation study and a real data example.

A Test for Multivariate Location Parameter in Elliptical Model based on Forward Search Method

In this article, we develop a test for multivariate location parameter in elliptical model based on the forward search estimator for a specified scatter matrix. Here, we study the asymptotic power of the test under contiguous alternatives based on the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics under such alternatives. Moreover, the performances of the test have been carried out for different simulated data and real data, and compared the performances with more classical ones.

Comparison of multivariate distributions using quantile-quantile plots and related tests

The univariate quantile-quantile (Q-Q) plot is a well-known graphical tool for examining whether two data sets are generated from the same distribution or not. It is also used to determine how well a specified probability distribution fits a given sample. In this article, we develop and study a multivariate version of the Q-Q plot based on the spatial quantile. The usefulness of the proposed graphical device is illustrated on different real and simulated data, some of which have fairly large dimensions. We also develop certain statistical tests that are related to the proposed multivariate Q-Q plot and study their asymptotic properties. The performance of those tests are compared with that of some other well-known tests for multivariate distributions available in the literature.
