Distributed Phase Sensing with Multiphoton States in Optical Interferometry

We investigate interferometric phase-estimation using separable photon inputs that evolve into number-path entangled states through linear optical networks, followed by photon-number-resolving detection. A simple analytical expression for the classical Fisher information at zero phase is derived for arbitrary $N$-photon states distributed across 2$N$ optical modes, partitioned into phase-encoding and reference blocks. Among all possible photon distributions between these blocks, the balanced configuration maximizes the phase sensitivity for every photon number $N$ and uniquely exhibits a phase-independent response. The achievable sensitivity degrades monotonically with increasing asymmetry in the photon distribution. We further investigate the robustness of the protocol in the presence of realistic photon loss and extend the analysis to distributed architectures with multiple receivers. In the low photon-flux regime, vacuum fluctuations fundamentally limit local quadrature measurements, whereas nonlocal photon-number-resolving measurements exploit multiphoton interference to mitigate loss-induced sensitivity degradation. Together, these results establish a scalable framework for quantum-enhanced distributed multimode metrology.

Large baseline quantum telescopes assisted by partially distinguishable photons

Quantum entanglement can be used to extend the baseline of telescope arrays in order to increase the spatial resolution. In one proposal by Marchese and Kok [Phys. Rev. Lett. 130, 160801 (2023)], identical single photons are shared between receivers, and interfere with a star photon. In this paper we consider two outstanding questions: i) what is the precise effect of the low photon occupancy of the mode associated with the starlight, and ii) what is the effect on the achievable resolution of imperfect indistinguishability (or partial distinguishability) between the ground and star photons. We find that the effect of distinguishability is relatively mild, but low photon occupancy of the optical mode of the starlight quickly deteriorates the sensitivity of the telescope for higher auxiliary photon numbers.

Bounding Quantum Advantages in Postselected Metrology

Weak value amplification and other postselection-based metrological protocols can enhance precision while estimating small parameters, outperforming postselection-free protocols. In general, these enhancements are largely constrained because the protocols yielding higher precision are rarely obtained due to a lower probability of successful postselection. It is shown that this precision can further be improved with the help of quantum resources like entanglement and negativity in the quasiprobability distribution. However, these quantum advantages in attaining considerable success probability with large precision are bounded irrespective of any accessible quantum resources. Here we derive a bound of these advantages in postselected metrology, establishing a connection with weak value optimization where the latter can be understood in terms of geometric phase. We introduce a scheme that saturates the bound, yielding anomalously large precision. Usually, negative quasiprobabilities are considered essential in enabling postselection to increase precision beyond standard optimized values. In contrast, we prove that these advantages can indeed be achieved with positive quasiprobability distribution. We also provide an optimal metrological scheme using three level non-degenerate quantum system.

Extraction of Product and Higher Moment Weak Values: Applications in Quantum State Reconstruction and Entanglement Detection

Weak measurements introduced by Aharonov, Albert and Vaidman (AAV) can provide informations about the system with minimal back action. Weak values of product observables (commuting) or higher moments of an observable are informationally important in the sense that they are useful to resolve some paradoxes, realize strange quantum effects, reconstruct density matrices, etc. In this work, we show that it is possible to access the higher moment weak values of an observable using weak values of that observable with pairwise orthogonal post-selections. Although the higher moment weak values of an observable are inaccessible with Gaussian pointer states, our method allows any pointer state. We have calculated product weak values in a bipartite system for any given pure and mixed pre selected states. Such product weak values can be obtained using only the measurements of local weak values (which are defined as single system weak values in a multi-partite system). As an application, we use higher moment weak values and product weak values to reconstruct unknown quantum states of single and bipartite systems, respectively. Further, we give a necessary separability criteria for finite dimensional systems using product weak values and certain class of entangled states violate this inequality by cleverly choosing the product observables and the post selections. By such choices, positive partial transpose (PPT) criteria can be achieved for these classes of entangled states. Robustness of our method which occurs due to inappropriate choices of quantum observables and noisy post-selections is also discussed here. Our method can easily be generalized to the multi-partite systems.

Chemical Oscillation in Ultracold Chemistry

We demonstrate the occurrence of oscillatory reactions in the ultra-cold chemistry of atom-molecular Bose-Einstein condensate. Nonlinear oscillations in the mean-field dynamics occur for a specific range of elliptic modulus, giving rise to both in- and out-phase modulations in the atom-molecule population density. The reaction front velocity is found to be controlled by photoassociation, which also regulates the condensate density. Two distinct pair of in-phase bright localized gap solitons are found as exact solutions, existence of one of which necessarily requires a background. Cnoidal atomic density-waves in a plane wave molecular background are observed in both attractive and repulsive domains. Role of intra- and inter-species interactions on both existence and stability is explicated in the presence of photoassociation.

PT-Symmetry and Supersymmetry: Interconnection of Broken and Unbroken Phases

The broken and unbroken phases of PT and supersymmetry in optical systems are explored for a complex refractive index profile in the form of a Scarf potential, under the framework of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. The transition from unbroken to the broken phases of PT-symmetry, with the merger of eigenfunctions near the exceptional point is found to arise from two distinct realizations of the potential, originating from the underlying supersymmetry. Interestingly, in PT-symmetric phase, spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry occurs in a parametric domain, possessing non-trivial shape invariances, under reparametrization to yield the corresponding energy spectra. One also observes a parametric bifurcation behaviour in this domain. Unlike the real Scarf potential, in PT-symmetric phase, a connection between complex isospectral superpotentials and modified KdV equation occurs, only with certain restrictive parametric conditions. In the broken PT-symmetry phase, supersymmetry is found to be intact in the entire parameter domain yielding the complex energy spectra, with zero-width resonance occurring at integral values of a potential parameter.

Quantum State Transfer through Coherent Atom-Molecule Conversion in Bose-Einstein Condensate

We demonstrate complete quantum state transfer of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate to molecular condensate, mediated by solitonic excitations in a cigar shaped mean-field geometry. Starting with a localized solitonic atomic condensate, we show compatible gray solitonic configuration in the molecular condensate, which results in complete atom-molecule conversion. The effect of inter and intra-species interactions on the formation of molecular condensate is explicated in the presence of Raman Photoassociation. It is found that photoassociation plays a crucial role in the coherent atom-molecule conversion as well as in the soliton dynamics. The gray soliton dispersion reveals bistable behaviour, showing a re-entrant phase in a physically accessible parametric domain.

Complex Solitary Waves and Soliton Trains in KdV and mKdV Equations

We demonstrate the existence of complex solitary wave and periodic solutions of the Kortweg de-vries (KdV) and modified Kortweg de-Vries (mKdV) equations. The solutions of the KdV (mKdV) equation appear in complex-conjugate pairs and are even (odd) under the simultaneous actions of parity ($\cal{P}$) and time-reversal ($\cal{T}$) operations. The corresponding localized solitons are hydrodynamic analogs of Bloch soliton in magnetic system, with asymptotically vanishing intensity. The $\cal{PT}$-odd complex soliton solution is shown to be iso-spectrally connected to the fundamental $sech^2$ solution through supersymmetry.

Exploring Branched Hamiltonians for a Class of Nonlinear Systems

One of the less well understood ambiguities of quantization is emphasized to result from the presence of higher-order time derivatives in the Lagrangians resulting in multiple-valued Hamiltonians. We explore certain classes of branched Hamiltonians in the context of nonlinear autonomous differential equation of Lienard type. Two eligible elementary nonlinear models that emerge are shown to admit a feasible quantization along these lines.

A study of PT-symmetric Non-linear Schroedinger Equation

Systems governed by the Non-linear Schroedinger Equation (NLSE) with various external PT-symmetric potentials are considered. Exact solutions have been obtained for the same through the method of ansatz, some of them being solitonic in nature. It is found that only the unbroken PT-symmetric phase is realized in these systems, characterized by real energies.

Tracking down localized modes in PT-symmetric Hamiltonians under the influence of a competing nonlinearity

The relevance of parity and time reversal (PT)-symmetric structures in optical systems is known for sometime with the correspondence existing between the Schrodinger equation and the paraxial equation of diffraction where the time parameter represents the propagating distance and the refractive index acts as the complex potential. In this paper, we systematically analyze a normalized form of the nonlinear Schrodinger system with two new families of PT-symmetric potentials in the presence of competing nonlinearities. We generate a class of localized eigenmodes and carry out a linear stability analysis on the solutions. In particular, we find an interesting feature of bifurcation charaterized by the parameter of perturbative growth rate passing through zero where a transition to imaginary eigenvalues occurs.
