Note on higher spins and holographic symmetry algebra

In this paper we discuss a higher spin extension of the holographic symmetry algebra for graviton and gluon. Our primary observation is that in the presence of higher spin particles the soft symmetry algebra has a subalgebra isomorphic to $w_{\infty}$ which is generated by the \textit{conformally soft higher spin particles}. This $w_{\infty}$ subalgebra does not commute with the $w_{1+\infty}$ subalegbra generated by the conformally soft gravitons. The same thing holds for the colored higher spin particles. One gets a subalgebra isomorphic to the $S$-algebra which is generated by the conformally soft colored higher spin particles. We further verify the soft algebra for colored higher spin particles using the (tree-level) $4$-point MHV amplitude of the higher spin Yang-Mills theory constructed in arXiv:2210.07130. At the end we also discuss the higher spin extension of the deformed holographic symmetry algebra for non-zero cosmological constant as constructed in arXiv:2312.00876.

Obviating PBH overproduction for SIGWs generated by Pulsar Timing Arrays in loop corrected EFT of bounce

In order to unravel the present situation of the PBH overproduction problem, our study emphasizes the critical role played by the equation of state (EoS) parameter $w$ within the framework of effective field theory (EFT) of non-singular bounce. Our analysis focuses on a wide range of EoS parameter values that are still optimal for explaining the latest data from the pulsar timing array (PTA). As a result of our study, the most advantageous window, $0.31 \leq w \leq 1/3$, is identified as the location of a substantial PBH abundance, $f_{\rm PBH} \in (10^{-3},1)$ with large mass PBHs, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim {\cal O}(10^{-7}-10^{-3})M_{\odot}$, in the SIGW interpretation of the PTA signal. When confronted with PTA, we find that the overproduction avoiding circumstances are between $1\sigma-2\sigma$, while the EoS parameter lies inside the narrow window, $0.31<w\leq 1/3$. We propose a regularized-renormalized-resummed (RRR) scalar power spectrum that is large enough to produce EoS dependent scalar generated gravitational waves compatible with PTA evidence, while satisfying the perturbativity, causality, and unitarity criteria, within the range of $0.88 \leq c_{s} \leq 1$.

Regularized-Renormalized-Resummed loop corrected power spectrum of non-singular bounce with Primordial Black Hole formation

We present a complete and consistent exposition of the regularization, renormalization, and resummation procedures in the setup of having a contraction and then non-singular bounce followed by inflation with a sharp transition from slow-roll (SR) to ultra-slow roll (USR) phase for generating primordial black holes (PBHs). We consider following an effective field theory (EFT) approach and study the quantum loop corrections to the power spectrum from each phase. We demonstrate the complete removal of quadratic UV divergences after renormalization and softened logarithmic IR divergences after resummation and illustrate the scheme-independent nature of our renormalization approach. We further show that the addition of a contracting and bouncing phase allows us to successfully generate PBHs of solar-mass order, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim {\cal O}(M_{\odot})$, by achieving the minimum e-folds during inflation to be $\Delta N_{\rm Total}\sim {\cal O}(60)$ and in this process successfully evading the strict no-go theorem. We notice that varying the effective sound speed between $0.88\leq c_{s}\leq 1$, allows the peak spectrum amplitude to lie within $10^{-3}\leq A \leq 10^{-2}$, indicating that causality and unitarity remain protected in the theory. We analyse PBHs in the extremely small, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim {\cal O}(10^{-33}-10^{-27})M_{\odot}$, and the large, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim {\cal O}(10^{-6}-10^{-1})M_{\odot}$, mass limits and confront the PBH abundance results with the latest microlensing constraints. We also study the cosmological beta functions across all phases and find their interpretation consistent in the context of bouncing and inflationary scenarios while satisfying the pivot scale normalization requirement. Further, we estimate the spectral distortion effects and shed light on controlling PBH overproduction.

Realisation of the ultra-slow roll phase in Galileon inflation and PBH overproduction

We demonstrate the explicit realisation of the ultra-slow roll phase in the framework of the effective field theory of single-field Galileon inflation. The pulsar timing array (PTA) collaboration hints at the scalar-induced gravity waves (SIGW) from the early universe as an explanation for the origin of the observed signal, which, however, leads to an enhancement in the amplitude of the scalar power spectrum giving rise to the overproduction of primordial black holes (PBHs). In the setup under consideration, we examine the generation of SIGW consistent with PTA (NANOGrav15 and EPTA) data, in addition to which we also consider the impact from QCD crossover at the nHz frequencies and address the PBH overproduction issue assuming linear approximations for the over-density without incorporating non-Gaussian effects from the comoving curvature perturbation. The framework is shown to give rise to SIGWs well consistent with the PTA signal with comfortable PBH abundance, $10^{-3} \lesssim f_{\rm PBH} < 1$, of near solar-mass black holes.

All $S$ invariant gluon OPEs on the celestial sphere

$S$ algebra is an infinite dimensional Lie algebra which is known to be the symmetry algebra of some gauge theories. It is a "coloured version" of the $w_{1+\infty}$. In this paper we write down all possible $S$ invariant (celestial) OPEs between two positive helicity outgoing gluons and also find the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov type null states for these theories. Our analysis hints at the existence of an infinite number of $S$ invariant gauge theories which include the (tree-level) MHV-sector and the self-dual Yang-Mills theory.

Primordial non-Gaussianity as a saviour for PBH overproduction in SIGWs generated by Pulsar Timing Arrays for Galileon inflation

We investigate the explicit role of negative local non-Gaussianity, $f_{\rm NL}$, in suppressing the abundance of primordial black holes (PBHs) in the single-field model of Galileon inflation. PBH formation requires significantly enhancing the scalar power spectrum, which greatly affects their abundance. The associated frequencies in the nHz regime are also sensitive to the generation of scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) which may explain the current data from the pulsar timing arrays (PTAs). Our analysis using the threshold statistics on the compaction function demonstrates that Galileon theory not only avoids PBH overproduction using the curvature perturbation enhancements that give $f_{\rm NL} \sim {\cal O}(-6)$, but also generates SIGWs that conform well with the PTA data.

Scalar induced gravity waves from ultra slow-roll Galileon inflation

We consider the production of secondary gravity waves in Galileon inflation with an ultra-slow roll (USR) phase and show that the spectrum of scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) in this case is consistent with the recent NANOGrav 15-year data and with sensitivities of other ground and space-based missions, LISA, BBO, DECIGO, CE, ET, HLVK (consists of aLIGO, aVirgo, and KAGRA), and HLV(03). Thanks to the non-renormalization property of Galileon theory, the amplitude of the large fluctuation is controllable at the sharp transitions between SR and USR regions. We show that the behaviour of the GW spectrum, when one-loop effects are included in the scalar power spectrum, is preserved under a shift of the sharp transition scale with peak amplitude $\Omega_{\rm GW}h^2\sim {\cal O}(10^{-6})$, and hence it can cover a wide range of frequencies within ${\cal O}(10^{-9}{\rm Hz} - 10^{7}{\rm Hz})$. An analysis of the allowed mass range for primordial black holes (PBHs) is also performed, where we find that mass values ranging from ${\cal O}(1M_{\odot} - 10^{-18}M_{\odot})$ can be generated over the corresponding allowed range of low and high frequencies.

Primordial non-Gaussianity from ultra slow-roll Galileon inflation

We present a detailed study of the generation of large primordial non-Gaussianities during the slow-roll (SR) to ultra-slow roll (USR) transitions in the framework of Galileon inflation. We found out that due to having sharp transitions in the USR phase, which persist with a duration of $\Delta {\it N}_{\rm USR} \sim 2$ e-folds, we are able to generate the non-Gaussianity amplitude of the order: $|f_{\rm NL}| \sim {\it O}(10^{-2})$ in the SRI, $-5 < f_{\rm NL} < 5$ in the USR, and $-2 < f_{\rm NL} < 2$ in the SRII phases. As a result, we are able to achieve a cumulative average value of $|f_{\rm NL}| \sim {\it O}(1)$. This implies that our results strictly satisfy Maldacena's no-go theorem in the squeezed limit only for SRI, while they strictly violate the same condition in both the USR and SRII phases. The non-renormalization theorem in the Galileon theory helps to support our results regarding the generation of large mass primordial black holes along with large non-Gaussianities, which we show to be dependent on the specific positions of the transition wave numbers fixed at low scales.

Galileon inflation evades the no-go for PBH formation in the single-field framework

We consider Galileon inflation in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework and examine the possibility for PBH formation during slow roll (SR) to ultra slow roll (USR) transitions. We show that loop corrections to the power spectrum, in this case, do not impose additional constraints on the masses of PBHs produced. We indicate that the remarkable non-renormalization property of Galileans due to generalized shift symmetry dubbed as Galilean symmetry is responsible for protecting PBH formation from quantum loop corrections.

Quantum loop effects on the power spectrum and constraints on primordial black holes

We present a detailed exposition on the prospects of the formation of Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) during Slow Roll (SR) to Ultra Slow Roll (USR) sharp transitions in the framework of single-field inflation. We use an effective field theory (EFT) approach in order to keep the analysis model-independent and applicable to both the canonical and non-canonical cases. We show in detail how renormalizing the power spectrum to one loop order in $P(X,\phi)$ theories severely limits the prospects for PBH formation in a single-field inflationary framework. We demonstrate that for the allowed range of effective sound speed, $1<c_s<1.17$, the consistency of one-loop corrected power spectrum leaves a small window for black hole masses, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim \mathcal{O}(10^2-10^3)$gm to have sufficient e-foldings, $\Delta {\cal N}_{\rm Total}\sim {\cal O}(54-59)$ for inflation. We confirm that adding an SR regime after USR before the end of inflation does not significantly alter our conclusions. Our findings for sharp transition strictly rule out the possibility of generating large masses of PBHs from all possible models of single-field inflation (canonical and non-canonical). Our results are at least valid for the situation where constraints from the loop effects are computed using either Late-Time (LT) or Adiabatic-Wave function (AF) scheme followed by Power Spectrum (PS) renormalization schemes.

PBH formation in EFT of single field inflation with sharp transition

Using the Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework of single field inflation, we investigate the possibility of the formation of Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) in the Slow Roll (SR) to Ultra Slow Roll (USR) sharp transition. We demonstrate that, due to one-loop correction to the power spectrum, causality is violated ($c_s>1$) for the mass range of PBHs, $M_{\rm PBH}>10^{2}{\rm gm}$ created during the said transition. We find that non-canonical features with $c_s<1$ worsen the predictions of the canonical framework of single-field inflation.

Four-mode squeezed states in de Sitter space: A study with two field interacting quantum system

In this paper we study the application of four-mode squeezed states in the cosmological context, studying two weakly coupled scalar fields in the planar patch of the de Sitter space. We construct the four-mode squeezed state formalism and connect this concept with the Hamiltonian of the two coupled inverted harmonic oscillators having a time-dependent effective frequency in the planar patch of the de Sitter space. Further, the corresponding evolution operator for the quantum Euclidean vacuum state has been constructed, which captures its dynamics. Using the Heisenberg picture coupled differential equations describing the time evolution for all squeezing parameters (amplitude, phase and angle) have been obtained, for the weakly coupled two scalar field model. With the help of these evolutions for the coupled system, we simulate the dynamics of the squeezing parameters in terms of conformal time. From our analysis, we observe interesting dynamics, which helps us to explore various underlying physical implications of the weakly coupled two scalar field system in the planar patch of the de Sitter cosmological background.

Quantum aspects of chaos and complexity from bouncing cosmology: A study with two-mode single field squeezed state formalism

$Circuit~ Complexity$, a well known computational technique has recently become the backbone of the physics community to probe the chaotic behaviour and random quantum fluctuations of quantum fields. This paper is devoted to the study of out-of-equilibrium aspects and quantum chaos appearing in the universe from the paradigm of two well known bouncing cosmological solutions viz. $Cosine~ hyperbolic$ and $Exponential$ models of scale factors. Besides $circuit~ complexity$, we use the $Out-of-Time~ Ordered~ correlation~ (OTOC)$ functions for probing the random behaviour of the universe both at early and the late times. In particular, we use the techniques of well known two-mode squeezed state formalism in cosmological perturbation theory as a key ingredient for the purpose of our computation. To give an appropriate theoretical interpretation that is consistent with the observational perspective we use the scale factor and the number of e-foldings as a dynamical variable instead of conformal time for this computation. From this study, we found that the period of post bounce is the most interesting one. Though it may not be immediately visible, but an exponential rise can be seen in the $complexity$ once the post bounce feature is extrapolated to the present time scales. We also find within the very small acceptable error range a universal connecting relation between Complexity computed from two different kinds of cost functionals-$linearly~ weighted$ and $geodesic~ weighted$ with the OTOC. Furthermore, from the $complexity$ computation obtained from both the cosmological models and also using the well known MSS bound on quantum Lyapunov exponent, $λ\leq 2π/β$ for the saturation of chaos, we estimate the lower bound on the equilibrium temperature of our universe at late time scale. Finally, we provide a rough estimation of the scrambling time in terms of the conformal time.

Circuit Complexity From Cosmological Islands

Recently in various theoretical works, path-breaking progress has been made in recovering the well-known Page Curve of an evaporating black hole with Quantum Extremal Islands, proposed to solve the long-standing black hole information loss problem related to the unitarity issue. Motivated by this concept, in this paper, we study cosmological circuit complexity in the presence (or absence) of Quantum Extremal Islands in the negative (or positive) Cosmological Constant with radiation in the background of Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) space-time i.e the presence and absence of islands in anti-de Sitter and the de Sitter spacetime having SO(2, 3) and SO(1, 4) isometries respectively. Without using any explicit details of any gravity model, we study the behaviour of the circuit complexity function with respect to the dynamical cosmological solution for the scale factors for the above-mentioned two situations in FLRW space-time using squeezed state formalism. By studying the cosmological circuit complexity, Out-of-Time Ordered Correlators, and entanglement entropy of the modes of the squeezed state, in different parameter spaces, we conclude the non-universality of these measures. Their remarkably different features in the different parameter spaces suggest their dependence on the parameters of the model under consideration.

Thermalization in Quenched Open Quantum Cosmology

In this article, we study the quantum field theoretic generalization of the Caldeira-Leggett model in general curved space-time considering interactions between two scalar fields in a classical gravitational background. The thermalization phenomena is then studied from the obtained de Sitter solution using quantum quench from one scalar field model obtained from path integrated effective action. We consider an instantaneous quench in the time-dependent mass protocol of the field of our interest. We find that the dynamics of the field post-quench can be described in terms of the state of the generalized Calabrese-Cardy (gCC) form and computed the different types of two-point correlation functions in this context. We explicitly found the conserved charges of $W_{\infty}$ algebra that represents the gCC state after a quench in de Sitter space and found it to be significantly different from the flat space-time results. We extend our study for the different two-point correlation functions not only considering the pre-quench state as the ground state, but also a squeezed state. We found that irrespective of the pre-quench state, the post quench state can be written in terms of the gCC state showing that the subsystem of our interest thermalizes in de Sitter space. Furthermore, we provide a general expression for the two-point correlators and explicitly show the thermalization process by considering a thermal Generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE). Finally, from the equal time momentum dependent counterpart of the obtained results for the two-point correlators, we have studied the hidden features of the power spectra and studied its consequences for different choices of the quantum initial conditions.

Relating the curvature of De Sitter Universe to Open Quantum Lamb Shift Spectroscopy

In this paper, we explore the connection between the curvature of the background De Sitter space-time with the spectroscopic study of entanglement of two atoms. Our set up is in the context of an Open Quantum System (OQS), where the two atoms, each having two energy levels and represented by Pauli spin tensor operators projected along any arbitrary direction. The system mimics the role of a pair of freely falling Unruh De-Witt detectors, which are allowed to non-adiabatically interact with a conformally coupled massless probe scalar field which has the role of background thermal bath. The effective dynamics of this combined system takes into account of the non-adiabatic interaction, which is commonly known as the Resonant Casimir Polder Interaction (RCPI) with the thermal bath. Our analysis reveals that the RCPI of two stable entangled atoms in the quantum vacuum states in OQS depends on the de Sitter space-time curvature relevant to the temperature of the thermal bath felt by the static observer. We also find that, in OQS, RCPI produces a new significant contribution appearing in the effective Hamiltonian of the total system and thermal bath under consideration. We find that the Lamb Shift is characterized by a decreasing inverse square power-law behavior, $L^{-2}$, when inter atomic Euclidean distance, $L$, is much larger than a characteristic length scale, $k$, which is the inverse surface gravity of the background De Sitter space. If the background space-time would have been Minkowskian this shift decreases as, $L^{-1}$, and is independent of temperature. Thus, we establish a connection between the curvature of the De Sitter space-time with the Lamb Shift spectroscopy.

Open Quantum Entanglement: A study of two atomic system in static patch of de Sitter space

In this work, our prime objective is to study non-locality and long-range effects of two-body correlation using quantum entanglement from the various information-theoretic measures in the static patch of de Sitter space using a two-body Open Quantum System (OQS). The OQS is described by a system of two entangled atoms, surrounded by a thermal bath, which is modelled by a massless probe scalar field. Firstly, we partially trace over the bath field and construct the Gorini Kossakowski Sudarshan Lindblad (GSKL) master equation, which describes the time evolution of the reduced subsystem density matrix. This GSKL master equation is characterized by two components, these are-Spin chain interaction Hamiltonian and the Lindbladian. To fix the form of both of them, we compute the Wightman functions for probe massless scalar field. Using this result along with the large time equilibrium behaviour we obtain the analytical solution for reduced density matrix. Further using this solution we evaluate various entanglement measures, namely Von-Neumann entropy, R$e'$nyi entropy, logarithmic negativity, entanglement of formation, concurrence and quantum discord for the two atomic subsystems on the static patch of De-Sitter space. Finally, we have studied the violation of Bell-CHSH inequality, which is the key ingredient to study non-locality in primordial cosmology.

Cosmological spectrum of two-point correlation function from vacuum fluctuation of Stringy Axion field in De Sitter space: A study of the role of Quantum Entanglement

In this work, we study the impact of quantum entanglement on the two-point correlation function and the associated primordial power spectrum of mean square vacuum fluctuation in a bipartite quantum field theoretic system. The field theory that we consider is the effective theory of axion field arising from Type IIB string theory compactified to four dimensions. We compute the expression for the power spectrum of vacuum fluctuation in three different approaches, namely (1) field operator expansion (FOE) technique with the quantum entangled state, (2) reduced density matrix (RDM) formalism with mixed quantum state and (3) the method of non-entangled state (NES). For massless axion field, in all these three formalism, we reproduce, at the leading order, the exact scale-invariant power spectrum which is well known in the literature. We observe that due to quantum entanglement, the sub-leading terms for these thee formalisms are different. Thus, such correction terms break the degeneracy among the analysis of the FOE, RDM and NES formalisms in the super-horizon limit. On the other hand, for massive axion field, we get a slight deviation from scale invariance and exactly quantify the spectral tilt of the power spectrum in small scales. Apart from that, for massless and massive axion field, we find distinguishable features of the power spectrum for the FOE, RDM, and NES on the large scales, which is the result of quantum entanglement. We also find that such large-scale effects are comparable to or greater than the curvature radius of the de Sitter space. Most importantly, in the near future, if experiments probe for early universe phenomena, one can detect such small quantum effects. In such a scenario, it is possible to test the implications of quantum entanglement in primordial cosmology.
