Classification of Disease from Lungs X-ray Images using VGG16, VGG19 and ResNet50 Models

With the increase in the number of cases related to respiratory diseases, there is an urgent need to detect them early and diagnose them accurately. Convolutional neural networks have given promising results when used for diagnosing diseases using imaging tests. In this study, we investigate the potential of applying deep learning algorithms such as VGG16, VGG19, and ResNet50 for classification of lung ailments based on X-ray images. A detailed analysis of the aforementioned models' performances was conducted to assess how well they can classify various types of lung ailments, including pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, and normal lungs. In order to do that, these deep learning models were trained on a vast amount of X-ray images. The results of our study show that while all three models provide good results, ResNet-50 performs best in comparison with other models due to its efficiency and high level of accuracy. We believe that these deep learning models can be successfully implemented in the practice of diagnosing pulmonary diseases in the future. It helps with early disease detection and improves patient outcomes.

This paper focuses on developing a Flutter application for controlling Docker resources remotely. The application provides a user-friendly interface for executing various Docker-related commands on the server where the Docker engine is installed. The application uses the SSH protocol to establish a secure connection with the server and execute the commands. Further, an alternative approach is also explored, which involves connecting the application with the Docker engine using HTTP. This proposed Docker controller application provides a significant advantage for managing Docker resources remotely, which is highly beneficial in DevOps fields. It provides a user-friendly interface to manage containers, making it easy to create, start, stop, restart, and remove containers. It abstracts away the complexities of working with Docker commands, allowing users to interact with containers more intuitively. It can be used to manage a number of docker engines from one place making it easy to control and monitor all the docker resources. Its performance, security, and scalability are evaluated using various testing techniques, and the results are found satisfactory. Further improvements may include enhancing the application's features, optimizing the performance, and exploring other possible approaches for establishing the connection between the application and the Docker engine.

Comparative Study of MAC Protocols for Wireless Mesh Network

Wireless networking is encouraged by the constant enhancement of sensors' ability and wireless communication. To provide service quality support for multimedia viz. audio and video streams, the IEEE 802.11e MAC (Media Access Control) improves basic 802.11 MAC. IEEE 802.11 standard series such as IEEE 802.11a, b, g, n, p, and ac have been promoted and specified in the current communications and connection development. Each standard has functionality that matches the kind of applications for which the standard is intended. IEEE 802.11ac has better performance with fewer interferences and achieves gigabits per second capacity transfer rates. This paper discusses the comparative examination of the IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11p, and IEEE 802.11ac standards which increase accuracy and performance pertaining to the IEEE 802.11 standard. In this paper, we investigate the design requirements for numerous simultaneous peer-to-peer connections. Further, this study offers a systematic review and analysis of the MAC layer in WMN (Wireless Mesh Network) and also highlights their open research issues and challenges. Finally, this paper discusses various potential directions for future research in this area with an emphasis on their strengths and limitations.

Continuous Sign Language Recognition System using Deep Learning with MediaPipe Holistic

Sign languages are the language of hearing-impaired people who use visuals like the hand, facial, and body movements for communication. There are different signs and gestures representing alphabets, words, and phrases. Nowadays approximately 300 sign languages are being practiced worldwide such as American Sign Language (ASL), Chinese Sign Language (CSL), Indian Sign Language (ISL), and many more. Sign languages are dependent on the vocal language of a place. Unlike vocal or spoken languages, there are no helping words in sign language like is, am, are, was, were, will, be, etc. As only a limited population is well-versed in sign language, this lack of familiarity of sign language hinders hearing-impaired people from communicating freely and easily with everyone. This issue can be addressed by a sign language recognition (SLR) system which has the capability to translate the sign language into vocal language. In this paper, a continuous SLR system is proposed using a deep learning model employing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), trained and tested on an ISL primary dataset. This dataset is created using MediaPipe Holistic pipeline for tracking face, hand, and body movements and collecting landmarks. The system recognizes the signs and gestures in real-time with 88.23% accuracy.

An Empirical Study of Mamba-based Language Models

Selective state-space models (SSMs) like Mamba overcome some of the shortcomings of Transformers, such as quadratic computational complexity with sequence length and large inference-time memory requirements from the key-value cache. Moreover, recent studies have shown that SSMs can match or exceed the language modeling capabilities of Transformers, making them an attractive alternative. In a controlled setting (e.g., same data), however, studies so far have only presented small scale experiments comparing SSMs to Transformers. To understand the strengths and weaknesses of these architectures at larger scales, we present a direct comparison between 8B-parameter Mamba, Mamba-2, and Transformer models trained on the same datasets of up to 3.5T tokens. We also compare these models to a hybrid architecture consisting of 43% Mamba-2, 7% attention, and 50% MLP layers (Mamba-2-Hybrid). Using a diverse set of tasks, we answer the question of whether Mamba models can match Transformers at larger training budgets. Our results show that while pure SSMs match or exceed Transformers on many tasks, they lag behind Transformers on tasks which require strong copying or in-context learning abilities (e.g., 5-shot MMLU, Phonebook) or long-context reasoning. In contrast, we find that the 8B Mamba-2-Hybrid exceeds the 8B Transformer on all 12 standard tasks we evaluated (+2.65 points on average) and is predicted to be up to 8x faster when generating tokens at inference time. To validate long-context capabilities, we provide additional experiments evaluating variants of the Mamba-2-Hybrid and Transformer extended to support 16K, 32K, and 128K sequences. On an additional 23 long-context tasks, the hybrid model continues to closely match or exceed the Transformer on average. To enable further study, we release the checkpoints as well as the code used to train our models as part of NVIDIA's Megatron-LM project.

Medical Image Analysis for Detection, Treatment and Planning of Disease using Artificial Intelligence Approaches

X-ray is one of the prevalent image modalities for the detection and diagnosis of the human body. X-ray provides an actual anatomical structure of an organ present with disease or absence of disease. Segmentation of disease in chest X-ray images is essential for the diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, a framework for the segmentation of X-ray images using artificial intelligence techniques has been discussed. Here data has been pre-processed and cleaned followed by segmentation using SegNet and Residual Net approaches to X-ray images. Finally, segmentation has been evaluated using well known metrics like Loss, Dice Coefficient, Jaccard Coefficient, Precision, Recall, Binary Accuracy, and Validation Accuracy. The experimental results reveal that the proposed approach performs better in all respect of well-known parameters with 16 batch size and 50 epochs. The value of validation accuracy, precision, and recall of SegNet and Residual Unet models are 0.9815, 0.9699, 0.9574, and 0.9901, 0.9864, 0.9750 respectively.

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is surely one of the prominent networks in the modern era which is widely used in numerous evolving applications, viz. broadband home networking (BHN), community and neighbourhood networks (CNN), coordinated network management (CNM), and intelligent transportation systems (ITS), etc. It is a wireless network (WN) with multi-hop formed by many fixed wireless mesh routers (WMR) that are connected wirelessly with a mesh-alike backbone arrangement. In the IEEE 802.11s network, the node selection, scalability, stability, density of the nodes, mobility of the nodes, transmission power, and routing are major issues that WMN suffers. In this paper, a critical review of MAC protocols and their Quality of Service (QoS) parameters for WMN is presented to attain a better understanding of MAC protocols. Furthermore, the critical comparative analysis and recommendation of MAC procedures for WMN using Multi-objective optimization and statistical testing framework are performed. This framework is used for the analysis and recommendation of different protocols available for QoS parameters.

Sign Language Recognition System using TensorFlow Object Detection API

Communication is defined as the act of sharing or exchanging information, ideas or feelings. To establish communication between two people, both of them are required to have knowledge and understanding of a common language. But in the case of deaf and dumb people, the means of communication are different. Deaf is the inability to hear and dumb is the inability to speak. They communicate using sign language among themselves and with normal people but normal people do not take seriously the importance of sign language. Not everyone possesses the knowledge and understanding of sign language which makes communication difficult between a normal person and a deaf and dumb person. To overcome this barrier, one can build a model based on machine learning. A model can be trained to recognize different gestures of sign language and translate them into English. This will help a lot of people in communicating and conversing with deaf and dumb people. The existing Indian Sing Language Recognition systems are designed using machine learning algorithms with single and double-handed gestures but they are not real-time. In this paper, we propose a method to create an Indian Sign Language dataset using a webcam and then using transfer learning, train a TensorFlow model to create a real-time Sign Language Recognition system. The system achieves a good level of accuracy even with a limited size dataset.

Sentiment Analysis and Sarcasm Detection of Indian General Election Tweets

Social Media usage has increased to an all-time high level in today's digital world. The majority of the population uses social media tools (like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) to share their thoughts and experiences with the community. Analysing the sentiments and opinions of the common public is very important for both the government and the business people. This is the reason behind the activeness of many media agencies during the election time for performing various kinds of opinion polls. In this paper, we have worked towards analysing the sentiments of the people of India during the Lok Sabha election of 2019 using the Twitter data of that duration. We have built an automatic tweet analyser using the Transfer Learning technique to handle the unsupervised nature of this problem. We have used the Linear Support Vector Classifiers method in our Machine Learning model, also, the Term Frequency Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) methodology for handling the textual data of tweets. Further, we have increased the capability of the model to address the sarcastic tweets posted by some of the users, which has not been yet considered by the researchers in this domain.

RDD-Eclat: Approaches to Parallelize Eclat Algorithm on Spark RDD Framework (Extended Version)

Frequent itemset mining (FIM) is a highly computational and data intensive algorithm. Therefore, parallel and distributed FIM algorithms have been designed to process large volume of data in a reduced time. Recently, a number of FIM algorithms have been designed on Hadoop MapReduce, a distributed big data processing framework. But, due to heavy disk I/O, MapReduce is found to be inefficient for the highly iterative FIM algorithms. Therefore, Spark, a more efficient distributed data processing framework, has been developed with in-memory computation and resilient distributed dataset (RDD) features to support the iterative algorithms. On this framework, Apriori and FP-Growth based FIM algorithms have been designed on the Spark RDD framework, but Eclat-based algorithm has not been explored yet. In this paper, RDD-Eclat, a parallel Eclat algorithm on the Spark RDD framework is proposed with its five variants. The proposed algorithms are evaluated on the various benchmark datasets, and the experimental results show that RDD-Eclat outperforms the Spark-based Apriori by many times. Also, the experimental results show the scalability of the proposed algorithms on increasing the number of cores and size of the dataset.

Just-in-time Quantum Circuit Transpilation Reduces Noise

Running quantum programs is fraught with challenges on on today's noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) devices. Many of these challenges originate from the error characteristics that stem from rapid decoherence and noise during measurement, qubit connections, crosstalk, the qubits themselves, and transformations of qubit state via gates. Not only are qubits not "created equal", but their noise level also changes over time. IBM is said to calibrate their quantum systems once per day and reports noise levels (errors) at the time of such calibration. This information is subsequently used to map circuits to higher quality qubits and connections up to the next calibration point. This work provides evidence that there is room for improvement over this daily calibration cycle. It contributes a technique to measure noise levels (errors) related to qubits immediately before executing one or more sensitive circuits and shows that just-in-time noise measurements benefit late physical qubit mappings. With this just-in-time recalibrated transpilation, the fidelity of results is improved over IBM's default mappings, which only uses their daily calibrations. The framework assess two major sources of noise, namely readout errors (measurement errors) and two-qubit gate/connection errors. Experiments indicate that the accuracy of circuit results improves by 3-304% on average and up to 400% with on-the-fly circuit mappings based on error measurements just prior to application execution.

A Data Structure Perspective to the RDD-based Apriori Algorithm on Spark

During the recent years, a number of efficient and scalable frequent itemset mining algorithms for big data analytics have been proposed by many researchers. Initially, MapReduce-based frequent itemset mining algorithms on Hadoop cluster were proposed. Although, Hadoop has been developed as a cluster computing system for handling and processing big data, but the performance of Hadoop does not meet the expectation for the iterative algorithms of data mining, due to its high I/O, and writing and then reading intermediate results in the disk. Consequently, Spark has been developed as another cluster computing infrastructure which is much faster than Hadoop due to its in-memory computation. It is highly suitable for iterative algorithms and supports batch, interactive, iterative, and stream processing of data. Many frequent itemset mining algorithms have been re-designed on the Spark, and most of them are Apriori-based. All these Spark-based Apriori algorithms use Hash Tree as the underlying data structure. This paper investigates the efficiency of various data structures for the Spark-based Apriori. Although, the data structure perspective has been investigated previously, but for MapReduce-based Apriori, and it must be re-investigated in the distributed computing environment of Spark. The considered underlying data structures are Hash Tree, Trie, and Hash Table Trie. The experimental results on the benchmark datasets show that the performance of Spark-based Apriori with Trie and Hash Table Trie are almost similar but both perform many times better than Hash Tree in the distributed computing environment of Spark.

Performance Optimization of MapReduce-based Apriori Algorithm on Hadoop Cluster

Many techniques have been proposed to implement the Apriori algorithm on MapReduce framework but only a few have focused on performance improvement. FPC (Fixed Passes Combined-counting) and DPC (Dynamic Passes Combined-counting) algorithms combine multiple passes of Apriori in a single MapReduce phase to reduce the execution time. In this paper, we propose improved MapReduce based Apriori algorithms VFPC (Variable Size based Fixed Passes Combined-counting) and ETDPC (Elapsed Time based Dynamic Passes Combined-counting) over FPC and DPC. Further, we optimize the multi-pass phases of these algorithms by skipping pruning step in some passes, and propose Optimized-VFPC and Optimized-ETDPC algorithms. Quantitative analysis reveals that counting cost of additional un-pruned candidates produced due to skipped-pruning is less significant than reduction in computation cost due to the same. Experimental results show that VFPC and ETDPC are more robust and flexible than FPC and DPC whereas their optimized versions are more efficient in terms of execution time.
