Perfect powers with few digits and $S$-unit coefficients

In this paper, we study two questions concerning perfect powers in $S$-unit equations and sparse representations of perfect powers. Corvaja-Zannier \cite{corvaja2013finiteness} proved that there are only finitely many odd perfect powers in $\N$ having precisely four non-zero digits in their binary expansion. At first, we prove the finiteness of the set of solutions to the equation \begin{equation*} y^d=1+c_1g^{m_1}+c_2g^{m_2}+c_3g^{m_3}, \quad 0 q_0(g)$, no perfect $q$-th power admits a representation with five non-zero digits in base $g$. The proof relies on explicit lower bounds for linear forms in both Archimedean and non-Archimedean logarithms.

Prime ideal divisors of parametric recurrence sequences

We prove new arithmetic results for parametric linear recurrence sequences specialized at roots of unity, denoted by $(U_n(ζ))_{n\geq 0}$. In particular, we obtain effective lower bounds for the largest prime ideal divisor and norm of the radical of the principal ideal generated by $U_n(ζ)$. We further derive an effective upper bound for the $S$-part of $U_n(ζ)$, showing that it is strictly smaller than a fixed power of its absolute norm for sufficiently large $n$.

Quantitative bounds on integrality for post-critically finite maps

Let $K$ be a number field with algebraic closure $\overline{K}$ and let $S$ be a finite set of places of $K$ that contain all the archimedean places. For an integer $d \ge 2$, consider the unicritical polynomial family $f_{d,c}(z) = z^d + c$. Recently, Benedetto and Ih studied the distribution of post-critically finite parameters $c$ that are $S$-integral relative to a fixed point $α\in \overline{K}$ such that $f_{d, α}$ is not post-critically finite. In this paper, we study the quantitative aspects of their result. In particular, under some additional assumptions we establish quantitative bounds on the number of $S$-integral post-critically finite parameters in the generalized Mandelbrot set $\mathcal{M}_{d, v}$ relative to a non post-critically finite parameter $α$ as $α$ varies over number fields of bounded degree.

Diophantine Equations for Polynomial Recursive Sequences

We study the Diophantine equation of type $U_n(x)=V_m(y)$, where $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ and $(V_m)_{m\geq 0}$ are polynomial power sums defined over a number field $K$. By applying the finiteness criterion of Bilu and Tichy, we show under appropriate assumptions that equation $U_n(x)=V_m(y)$ has infinitely many solutions with bounded $\mathcal{O}_S$-denominator. We also study decomposable polynomials in third and second order linear recurrence sequences. In particular, we show that if $W_n(x)=g(h(x))$ for a simple third order linear recurrence sequence $(W_n(x))_{n\geq 0}$ of complex polynomials, then deg $g$ is bounded. Furthermore, we show that if $(u_{n_1}+u_{n_2})(x)=g(h(x))$ for a binary recurrence sequence $(u_n(x))_{n\geq 0}$ then deg $g$ is bounded.

On the number of irreducible representations of $\so(5)$

Let $d(n)$ be the divisor function and it is well known that $\sum_{1\leq n \leq x}d(n) = x\log x+(2γ-1)x +\mathcal{O}\left(x^{θ+ε}\right)$ where $γ$ is the Euler constant, $ε>0$ and $1/4<θ<1/3$. In this paper, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{so}(5)$. More precisely, the irreducible representations of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{so}(5)$ are a family of representations of dimension $jk(j+k)(j+2k)/6$ for $j, k\in \mathbb{N}_{0}$ and suppose that $\varrho_{\mathfrak{so}(5)}(n)$ is the number of irreducible $\mathfrak{so}(5)$ representations of dimension $n$. We obtain an asymptotic formula for the summatory function $\sum_{1\leq n \leq x}\varrho_{\mathfrak{so}(5)}(n)$.

Sums of S-units in X-coordinates of Pell equations

Let $S$ be a fixed set of primes and let $(X_{l})_{l\geq 1}$ be the $X$-coordinates of the positive integer solutions $(X, Y)$ of the Pell equation $X^2-dY^2 = 1$ corresponding to a non-square integer $d>1$. We show that there are only a finite number of non-square integers $d>1$ such that there are at least two different elements of the sequence $(X_{l})_{l\geq 1}$ that can be represented as a sum of $S$-units with a fixed number of terms. Furthermore, we solve explicitly a particular case in which two of the $X$-coordinates are product of power of two and power of three.

Uniform bounds on $S$-integral preperiodic points for chebyshev polynomials

Let $K$ be a number field with algebraic closure $\bar{K}$, let $S$ be a finite set of places of $K$ containing the archimedean places, and let $φ$ be Chebyshev polynomial. In this paper we prove uniformity results on the number of $S$-integral preperiodic points relative to a non-preperiodic point $β$, as $β$ varies over number fields of bounded degree.

Sum of terms of recurrence sequences in the solution sets of generalized Pell equations

Let $(X_{k})_{k\geq 1}$ and $(Y_k)_{k\geq 1}$ be the sequence of $X$ and $Y$-coordinates of the positive integer solutions $(x, y)$ of the equation $x^2 - dy^2 = t$. In this paper we completely describe those recurrence sequences such that sums of two terms recurrence sequences in the solution sets of generalized Pell equations are infinitely many. Further, we give an upper bound for the number of such terms when there are only finitely many of them. This work is motivated by the recent paper Hajdu and Sebestyén (Int. J. Number Theory 18 (2022), 1605-1612).

The orbit intersection problem in positive characteristic

In this paper, we study the orbit intersection problem for the linear space and the algebraic group in positive characteristic. Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic and let $Φ_1, Φ_{2}: K^d \longrightarrow K^{d}$ be affine maps, $Φ_i({\bf x}) = A_i ({\bf x}) + {\bf x_i}$ (where each $A_i$ is a $d\times d$ matrix and ${\bf x}\in K^d$). If none of the eigenvalues of the matrices $A_i$ are roots of unity and each ${\bf a}_i \in K^d$ is not $Φ_i$-preperiodic, then we prove that the set $\left \{(n_1, n_2) \in \Z^{2} \mid Φ_1^{n_1}({\bf a}_1) = Φ_{2}^{n_{2}}({\bf a}_{2})\right\}$ is $p$-normal in $\mathbb{Z}^{2}$ of order at most $d$. Further, let $Φ_1, Φ_{2}: \mathbb{G}_m^d \longrightarrow \mathbb{G}_m^d$ be regular self-maps and ${\bf a}_1, {\bf a}_2\in \mathbb{G}_m^d(K)$. Let $Φ_1^0$ and $Φ_2^0$ be group endomorphisms of $\mathbb{G}_m^d$ and ${\bf y}, {\bf z} \in \mathbb{G}_m^d(K)$ such that $Φ_1({\bf x}) = Φ_1^{0}({\bf x}) + {\bf y}$ and $Φ_2({\bf x}) = Φ_2^{0}({\bf x}) + {\bf z}$. We show, under some conditions on the roots of the minimal polynomial of $ Φ_1^{0}$ and $Φ_2^{0}$, that the set $ \{(n_1, n_{2}) \in \N_0^{2} \mid Φ_1^{n_1}({\bf a}_1) = Φ_{2}^{n_{2}}({\bf a}_{2})\}$ (where ${\bf a}_1, {\bf a}_2\in \mathbb{G}_m^d(K)$) is a finite union of singletons and one-parameter linear families. To do so, we use results on linear equations over multiplicative groups in positive characteristic and some results on systems of polynomial-exponential equations.

On perfect powers that are sum of two balancing numbers

Let $B_k$ denote the $k^{th}$ term of balancing sequence. In this paper we find all positive integer solutions of the Diophantine equation $B_n+B_m = x^q$ in variables $(m, n,x,q)$ under the assumption $n\equiv m \pmod 2$. Furthermore, we study the Diophantine equation \[B_n^{3}\pm B_m^{3} = x^q\] with positive integer $q\geq 3$ and $\gcd(B_n, B_m) =1$.

Reduction of polynomial dynamical systems modulo primes

We study the algebraic dynamical systems generated by triangular systems of rational functions and estimate the height growth of iterations generated by such systems. Further, using a result on the reduction modulo primes of systems of multivariate polynomials over the integers, we study the periodic points and the intersection of orbits of such dynamical systems over finite fields. 1

Cullen numbers in sums of terms of recurrence sequence

Let $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ be a fixed linear recurrence sequence of integers with order at least two, and for any positive integer $\ell$, let $\ell \cdot 2^{\ell} + 1$ be a Cullen number. Recently in \cite{bmt}, generalized Cullen numbers in terms of linear recurrence sequence $(U_n)_{n\geq 0}$ under certain weak assumptions has been studied. However, there is an error in their proof. In this paper, we generalize their work, as well as our result fixes their error. In particular, for a given polynomial $Q(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ we consider the Diophantine equation $U_{n_1} + \cdots + U_{n_k} = \ell \cdot x^{\ell} + Q(x)$, and prove effective finiteness result. Furthermore, we demonstrate our method by an example.

Multiple Lucas Dirichlet series associated to additive and Dirichlet characters

In this article, we obtain the analytic continuation of the multiple shifted Lucas zeta function, multiple Lucas $L$-function associated to Dirichlet characters and additive characters. We then compute a complete list of exact singularities and residues of these functions at these poles. Further, we show the rationality of the multiple Lucas $L$-functions associated with quadratic characters at negative integer arguments.

Linear combinations of factorials in binary recurrence sequences

Let $\{u_{n}\}_{n \geq 0}$ be a non-degenerate binary recurrence sequence with positive discriminant. In this paper, we consider the Diophantine equation $u_m + u_n = a_1 n_1! + \cdots + a_k n_k!$ and prove that there are only finitely many effectively computable terms which can be expressed as a sum of factorials. Furthermore, we find the terms of the balancing sequences that can be written as a sum of two factorials.
