Common Origin of $3.55$ keV X-ray line and Gauge Coupling Unification with Left-Right Dark Matter

We present a minimal left-right dark matter framework that can simultaneously explain the recently observed 3.55 keV X-ray line from several galaxy clusters and gauge coupling unification at high energy scale. Adopting a minimal dark matter strategy, we consider both left and right handed triplet fermionic dark matter candidates which are stable by virtue of a remnant $\mathcal{Z}_2\simeq (-1)^{B-L}$ symmetry arising after the spontaneous symmetry breaking of left-right gauge symmetry to that of the standard model. A scalar bitriplet field is incorporated whose first role is to allow radiative decay of right handed triplet dark matter into the left handed one and a photon with energy 3.55 keV. The other role this bitriplet field at TeV scale plays is to assist in achieving gauge coupling unification at a high energy scale within a non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ model while keeping the scale of left-right gauge symmetry around the TeV corner. Apart from solving the neutrino mass problem and giving verifiable new contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay and charged lepton flavour violation, the model with TeV scale gauge bosons can also give rise to interesting collider signatures like diboson excess, dilepton plus two jets excess reported recently in the large hadron collider data.

Multi-component Fermionic Dark Matter and IceCube PeV scale Neutrinos in Left-Right Model with Gauge Unification

We consider a simple extension of the minimal left-right symmetric model (LRSM) in order to explain the PeV neutrino events seen at the IceCube experiment from a heavy decaying dark matter. The dark matter sector is composed of two fermions: one at PeV scale and the other at TeV scale such that the heavier one can decay into the lighter one and two neutrinos. The gauge annihilation cross sections of PeV dark matter are not large enough to generate its relic abundance within the observed limit. We include a pair of real scalar triplets $Ω_{L,R}$ which can bring the thermally overproduced PeV dark matter abundance into the observed range through late time decay and consequent entropy release thereby providing a consistent way to obtain the correct relic abundance without violating the unitarity bound on dark matter mass. Another scalar field, a bitriplet under left-right gauge group is added to assist the heavier dark matter decay. The presence of an approximate global $U(1)_X$ symmetry can naturally explain the origin of tiny couplings required for long-lived nature of these decaying particles. We also show, how such an extended LRSM can be incorporated within a non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ model where the gauge coupling unification at a very high scale naturally accommodate a PeV scale intermediate symmetry, required to explain the PeV events at IceCube.

$A_4$ realization of Linear Seesaw and Neutrino Phenomenology

Motivated by the crucial role played by the discrete flavour symmetry groups in explaining the observed neutrino oscillation data, we consider the $A_4$ realization of linear seesaw by extending the standard model (SM) particle content with two types of right-handed neutrinos along with the flavon fields, and the SM symmetry with $A_4\times Z_4\times Z_2$ and a global symmetry $U(1)_X$ which is broken explicitly by the Higgs potential. We scrutinize whether this model can explain the recent results from neutrino oscillation experiments by searching for parameter space that can accommodate the observables such as the reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$, the CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$, sum of active neutrino masses $Σ_{i} m_i$, solar and atmospheric mass squared differences, and the lepton number violating parameter called as effective Majorana mass parameter, in line with recent experimental results. We also discuss the scope of this model to explain the baryon asymmetry of the universe through Leptogenesis. We also investigate the possibility of probing the non-unitarity effect in this scenario, but it is found to be rather small.

Neutrino Mass and Neutrinoless double beta decay in SO(10) GUT with Pati-Salam symmetry

We demonstrate how a class of non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ GUT with asymmetric left-right theory $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R \times U(1)_{B-L} \times SU(3)_C$ and Pati-Salam theory $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times SU(4)_C$ as intermediate symmetry breaking steps leads to successful gauge coupling unification satisfying proton decay constraints. The motivation behind this work is two fold: firstly to study the renormalization group evolution equations for gauge couplings by keeping right-handed neutral gauge boson $Z_R$ around LHC energy range leading interesting dilepton searches at collider while fixing charge partner of the gauge boson $W_R$ at very high scale; secondly to explain neutrino masses and associated lepton number violating process like neutrinoless double beta decay in three possible cases depending on how $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R \times U(1)_{B-L} \times SU(3)_C$ breaks down to SM. We include one extra fermion singlet per generation in order to implement gauged extended seesaw where light neutrino mass is governed by natural type-II seesaw mechanism whereas type-I seesaw contribution is exactly canceled out. Since light neutrino mass formula is independent of Dirac neutrino mass matrix, the value of Dirac neutrino mass is taken to be up-type quark mass matrix which is a characteristics of Pati-Salam symmetry relating quarks with leptons. We present analytic relation for effective Majorana mass parameter and corresponding half-life arising from new physics contributions due to purely left-handed currents through exchange of heavy right-handed neutrinos and sterile neutrinos. We numerically estimate effective Majorana mass parameter and half-life vs. lightest neutrino mass and derive lower bound on lightest neutrino mass by saturating with experimental bounds like GERDA Phase-II, KamLANDZen and EXO.

Towards gauge coupling unification in left-right symmetric $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ theories

We consider the possibility of gauge coupling unification within the simplest realizations of the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ gauge theory. We present a first exploration of the renormalization group equations governing the "bottom-up" evolution of the gauge couplings in a generic model with free normalization for the generators. Interestingly, we find that for a $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ symmetry breaking scale $M_X$ as low as a few TeV one can achieve unification in the presence of leptonic octets. We briefly comment on possible grand unified theory frameworks which can embed the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_{X}}$ model as well as possible implications, such as lepton flavour violating physics at the LHC.

Universal Seesaw and $0νββ$ in new 3331 left-right symmetric model

We consider a class of left-right symmetric model with enlarged gauge group $SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_X$ without having scalar bitriplet. In the absence of scalar bitriplet, there is no Dirac mass term for fermions including usual quarks and leptons. We introduce new isosinglet vector-like fermions so that all the fermions get their masses through a universal seesaw mechanism. We extend our discussion to neutrino mass and its implications in neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$). We show that for TeV scale $SU(3)_R$ gauge bosons, the heavy-light neutrino mixing contributes dominantly to $0νββ$ that can be observed at ongoing experiments. Towards the end we also comment on different possible symmetry breaking patterns of this enlarged gauge symmetry to that of the standard model.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay in Left-Right Symmetry with Universal Seesaw

We discuss a class of left-right symmetric theories with a universal seesaw mechanism for fermion masses and mixing and the implications for neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay where neutrino masses are governed by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The scalar sector consists of left- and right-handed Higgs doublets and triplets, while the conventional Higgs bidoublet is absent in this scenario. We use the Higgs doublets to implement the left-right and the electroweak symmetry breaking. On the other hand, the Higgs triplets with induced vacuum expectation values can give Majorana masses to light and heavy neutrinos and mediate $0νββ$ decay. In the absence of the Dirac mass terms for the neutrinos, this framework can naturally realize type-II seesaw dominance even if the right-handed neutrinos have masses of a few TeV. We study the implications of this framework in the context of $0νββ$ decay and gauge coupling unification.

Lepton Number Violation in Low Scale Seesaw Mechanism and its Collider Complementarity

We consider the TeV scale left-right symmetric theory which can accommodate low scale seesaw mechanisms consistent with neutrino oscillation data and find new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay. The model facilitates natural type-II seesaw dominance and the presence of extra particles make the Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$ large that leads to large light heavy neutrino mixing. The spontaneous symmetry breaking through doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars at TeV scale offers rich phenomenology accessible to LHC. From the numerical studies of the new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay we derive a lower limit on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass and find that normal hierarchy (NH) pattern is favorable taking into account the cosmology and oscillation data.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay in LRSM with Natural Type-II seesaw Dominance

We present a detailed discussion on neutrinoless double beta decay within a class of left-right symmetric models where neutrino mass originates by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The spontaneous symmetry breaking is implemented with doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars. The fermion sector is extended with an extra sterile neutrino per generation that helps in implementing the seesaw mechanism. The presence of extra particles in the model exactly cancels type-I seesaw and allows large value for Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$. The key feature of this work is that all the physical masses and mixing are expressed in terms of neutrino oscillation parameters and lightest neutrino mass thereby facilitating to constrain light neutrino masses from $0νββ$ decay. With this large value of $M_D$ new contributions arise due to; i) purely left-handed current via exchange of heavy right-handed neutrinos as well as sterile neutrinos, ii) the so called $λ$ and $η$ diagrams. New physics contributions also arise from right-handed currents with right-handed gauge boson $W_R$ mass around $3$~TeV. From the numerical study, we find that the new contributions to $0νββ$ decay not only saturate the current experimental bound but also give lower limit on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass and favor NH pattern of light neutrino mass hierarchy.

331 Models and Grand Unification: From Minimal SU(5) to Minimal SU(6)

We consider the possibility of grand unification of the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model in an SU(6) gauge unification group. Two possibilities arise. Unlike other conventional grand unified theories, in SU(6) one can embed the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model as a subgroup such that different multiplets appear with different multiplicities. Such a scenario may emerge from the flux breaking of the unified group in an E(6) F-theory GUT. This provides new ways of achieving gauge coupling unification in $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ models while providing the radiative origin of neutrino masses. Alternatively, a sequential variant of the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model can fit within a minimal SU(6) grand unification, which in turn can be a natural E(6) subgroup. This minimal SU(6) embedding does not require any bulk exotics to account for the chiral families while allowing for a TeV scale $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model with seesaw-type neutrino masses.

A new B-L model without right-handed neutrinos

We propose and study a novel extension of the Standard Model based on the B-L gauge symmetry that can account for dark matter and neutrino masses. In this model, right-handed neutrinos are absent and the gauge anomalies are canceled instead by four chiral fermions with fractional B-L charges. After the breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$, these fermions arrange themselves into two Dirac particles, the lightest of which is automatically stable and plays the role of the dark matter. We determine the regions of the parameter space consistent with the observed dark matter density and show that they can be partially probed via direct and indirect dark matter detection or collider searches at the LHC. Neutrino masses, on the other hand, can be explained by a variant of the type-II seesaw mechanism involving one of the two scalar fields responsible for the dark matter mass.

Gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ model in light of muon $g-2$ anomaly, neutrino mass and dark matter phenomenology

Gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ model has been advocated for a long time in light of muon $g-2$ anomaly, which is a more than $3σ$ discrepancy between the experimental measurement and the standard model prediction. We augment this model with three right-handed neutrinos $(N_e, N_μ, N_τ)$ and a vector-like singlet fermion $(χ)$ to explain simultaneously the non-zero neutrino mass and dark matter content of the Universe, while satisfying anomalous muon $g-2$ constraints. It is shown that in a large parameter space of this model we can explain positron excess, observed at PAMELA, Fermi-LAT and AMS-02, through dark matter annihilation, while satisfying the relic density and direct detection constraints.

Subdominant Left-Right Scalar Dark Matter as Origin of the 750 GeV Di-photon Excess at LHC

We study the possibility of explaining the recently reported 750 GeV di-photon excess at LHC within the framework of a left-right symmetric model. The 750 GeV neutral scalar in the model is dominantly an admixture of neutral components of scalar bidoublets with a tiny fraction of neutral scalar triplet. Incorporating $SU(2)$ septuplet scalar pairs into the model, we enhance the partial decay width of the 750 GeV neutral scalar into di-photons through charged septuplet components in loop while keeping the neutral septuplet components as subdominant dark matter candidates. The model also predicts the decay width of the 750 GeV scalar to be around 36 GeV to be either confirmed or ruled out by future LHC data. The requirement of producing the correct di-photon signal automatically keeps the septuplet dark matter abundance subdominant in agreement with bounds from direct and indirect detection experiments. We then briefly discuss different possibilities to account for the remaining dark matter component of the Universe in terms of other particle candidates whose stability arise either due to remnant discrete symmetry after spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$ or due to high $SU(2)$-dimension forbidding their decay into lighter particles.

Singlet fermion Dark Matter within Left-Right Model

We discuss singlet fermion dark matter within a left-right symmetric model promoting baryon and lepton numbers as separate gauge symmetries. We add a simple Dirac fermionic dark matter singlet under $SU(2)_{L,R}$ with nonzero and equal baryon and lepton number which ensures electric charge neutrality. Such a dark matter candidate interacts with SM particles through the extra $Z_{B,\ell}$ gauge bosons. This can give rise to a dark matter particle of a few hundred GeV that couples to $\sim$ TeV scale gauge bosons to give the correct relic density. This model thus accommodates TeV scale $Z_{B,\ell}$ gauge bosons and other low scale BSM particles, which can be easily probed at LHC.

750 GeV Di-photon excess at CERN LHC from a dark sector assisted scalar decay

We present a simple extension of the standard model (SM) to explain the diphoton excess, reported by CMS and ATLAS at CERN LHC. The SM is extended by a dark sector including a vector-like lepton doublet and a singlet of zero electromagnetic charge, which are odd under a $Z_2$ symmetry. These vector-like leptons assist the additional scalar, different from SM Higgs, to decay to di-photons of invariant mass around 750 GeV and thus explaining the excess observed at LHC. The admixture of neutral component of the vector-like lepton doublet and singlet constitute the dark matter component of the Universe. We show the relevant parameter space for correct relic density and direct detection of dark matter.

Dark matter, lepton and baryon number, and left-right symmetric theories

A lepto-baryonic left-right symmetric theory is considered along with pointing out stable dark matter candidates whose stability is ensured automatically where leptons and baryons are defined as local gauge symmetries. These theories are generally anomalous and the possible gauge anomaly free solutions for these theories are presented. It is found that the neutral component of fermion triplets can be a viable dark matter candidate originally introduced for gauge anomaly cancellation. The other dark matter possibilities within this lepto-baryonic left-right symmetric theory are also presented.

A minimal model of TeV scale WIMPy leptogenesis

We present a minimal framework of $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model explaining dark matter abundance and matter-antimatter asymmetry simultaneously through an attractive mechanism of TeV scale WIMPy leptogenesis, testable at the current and next generation of colliders. This framework can also explain small neutrino masses via a radiative mechanism. One of the key predictions of this model is an enhanced rate for lepton flavor violating decay $μ\rightarrow e γ$ within the sensitivity reach of next generation experiments.

Implications of the diphoton excess on Left-Right models and gauge unification

The recent diphoton excess signal at an invariant mass of 750 GeV can be interpreted in the framework of left-right symmetric models with additional scalar singlets and vector-like fermions. We propose a minimal scenario for such a purpose. Extending the LRSM framework to include these new vector-like fermionic fields, on the other hand, results in interesting phenomenological implications for the LRSM fermion masses and mixing. Furthermore, existence of such vector-like fermions can also have interesting implications for baryogenesis and the dark matter sector. The introduction of a real bi-triplet scalar which contains a potential DM candidate will allow the gauge couplings to unify at $\approx 10^{17.7}$ GeV.
