Spread of Crime Dynamics: A mathematical approach

In this work, the spread of crime dynamics in the US is analyzed from a mathematical scope, an epidemiological model is established, including five compartments: Susceptible (S), Latent 1 (E1), Latent 2 (E2), Incarcerated (I), and Recovered (R). A system of differential equations is used to model the spread of crime. A result to show the positivity of the solutions for the system is included. The basic reproduction number and the stability for the disease-free equilibrium results are calculated following epidemiological theories. Numerical simulations are performed with US parameter values. Understanding the dynamics of the spread of crime helps to determine what factors may work best together to reduce violent crime.

Classification of Tensor Decompositions of II$_1$ Factors Associated With Poly-Hyperbolic Groups

We demonstrate von Neumann algebra arising from an icc group $Γ$ in Chifan's, Ioana's, and Kida's class of poly-$\mathcal{C}_\text{rss} $, such as a poly-hyperbolic group with no amenable factors in its composition series, satisfies the following rigidity phenomenon discovered in DHI16 (see also CdSS17): every tensor decomposition of the II$_1$ factor $L(Γ) $ must arise from direct product decomposition of $Γ$ by groups which are poly-$ \mathcal{C}_\text{rss}$. Through heavy usage and developments of the techniques in CdSS15, we improve the second author's and their collaborator's work in CKP14 by providing group-level criteria for determining whether a group von Neumann algebra is prime: $L(Γ) $ is prime precisely when the group is indecomposable as a direct product of non-amenable groups. We further demonstrate that all tensor decompositions of finite index subalgebras of $L(Γ) $ correspond to a splitting of $Γ$ as a product by groups which are also poly-$\mathcal{C}_\text{rss}$ up to commensurability.

Primeness results for von Neumann algebras associated with surface braid groups

In this paper we introduce a new class of non-amenable groups denoted by ${\bf NC}_1 \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ which give rise to $\textit{prime}$ von Neumann algebras. This means that for every $Γ\in {\bf NC}_1 \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ its group von Neumann algebra $L(Γ)$ cannot be decomposed as a tensor product of diffuse von Neumann algebras. We show ${\bf NC}_1 \cap {\bf Quot}(\mathcal C_{rss})$ is fairly large as it contains many examples of groups intensively studied in various areas of mathematics, notably: all infinite central quotients of pure surface braid groups; all mapping class groups of (punctured) surfaces of genus $0,1,2$; most Torelli groups and Johnson kernels of (punctured) surfaces of genus $0,1,2$; and, all groups hyperbolic relative to finite families of residually finite, exact, infinite, proper subgroups.
