Search for Stochastic GW Signal as a Complementary Approach to Multi-Higgs Productions at the Hadron Colliders to Probe Dimension Six Operator

We have considered an effective field theory framework in which the Standard Model is extended by a non-renormalizable dimension six operator ($\frac{1}{\Lambda^2}(H^{\dagger}H)^3$) respecting the symmetries of the Standard Model. Such an operator can affect the dynamics of Higgs field and the electroweak phase transition. Presence of such term modifies the triple Higgs coupling which is already under the lens from di-Higgs searches in various channels at the LHC. Constraint on the scale parameter $\Lambda$ is obtained from the di-Higgs data at the LHC Run II. Additionally, such dimension six terms will give rise to additional couplings which will affect tri-Higgs and four-Higgs productions at future high energy, high luminosity hadron colliders. The shape of the scalar potential also gets modified due to such higher dimensional term composed of Higgs field. It is worthwhile to study the impact of such higher-dimensional operators at suitable gravitational wave (GW) interferometry experiments since GW astronomy has become a good probe for new physics searches. Bounds obtained on the scale parameter $\Lambda$ from the allowed first-order electroweak phase transition is $450 \lesssim \Lambda \lesssim 590$~GeV. On the other hand, di-Higgs results from the LHC Run II put a lower bound on $\Lambda \gtrsim 340$~GeV.

Implications of Sgr A$^\ast$ on the $\gamma$-rays searches of Bino Dark Matter with $(g-2)_\mu$

We analyse the impact of dark matter density spike around the Milky Way's supermassive black hole (SMBH), Sgr A$^*$, in probing the Bino-dominated neutralino dark matter (DM) $\tilde \chi_1^0$ within the MSSM, which typically produces relatively faint signals in the conventional DM halos. In particular, we explore the indirect search prospects of sub-TeV Bino-Higgsino and Bino-Wino-Higgsino DM in the MSSM, consistent with the supersymmetric predictions required to explain the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Typical over-abundance of Bino DM is ameliorated with slepton and/or Wino coannihilations. The lightest neutralino, thus, may be associated with a compressed supersymmetric particle spectrum, which, in general, is difficult to probe at conventional LHC searches. Similarly, for a rather tiny Higgsino mixing, $\tilde \chi_1^0$ does not offer much prospect to assess its predictions at dark matter direct detection searches. Accommodating the inclusive effects of density spike, here, we present the requisite boost factor to facilitate $\gamma-$ray searches of Bino-dominated DM in the MSSM, especially focusing on the Fermi-LAT and HESS observations.

Prospects of Gluino searches in multi-lepton channels in the light of ongoing LHC RUN-III

This study investigates the prospect of discovering strongly interacting gluinos in different multi-lepton channels with lepton multiplicity greater than or equal to 2 at LHC RUN-III, considering several pMSSM scenarios. The effectiveness of the Multivariate Analysis (MVA) method with the Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) algorithm is explored in order to obtain a better significance for different models. Promising results are obtained for the 3-lepton channels, indicating that the use of MVA methods can improve the sensitivity of the search for gluinos at LHC RUN-III. The study probes the multi-lepton signatures arising from gluinos via intermediate eweakinos and sleptons at an early stage of the LHC RUN-III. The heavier eweakinos can give rise to three or four lepton signals in which the squark hierarchy between L and R types plays a crucial role. The study considers two sets of benchmark points that satisfy all the collider constraints obtained from the LHC RUN-II data. Moreover, these sets of benchmark points are mostly consistent with WMAP/PLANCK data and the muon (g-2) constraint. The corresponding results from the MVA technique demonstrate that even for an integrated luminosity of 270 $fb^{-1}$, the 5 $\sigma$ discovery prospect of $3l+ jets + \cancel{E_T}$ for $M_{\widetilde{g}}=1.8$ TeV in the wino type model is promising. The study also presents the other various models that may show up at the early stage of LHC RUN-III. The wino type models in the scenario where left squarks are light and right squarks are heavy, exhibit the best prospect of discovering gluinos in the multi-lepton channels in the LHC RUN-III experiment. This paper's findings provide crucial insights into the potential discovery of gluinos in multi-lepton channels.

Revisiting the gluino mass limits in the pMSSM in the light of the latest LHC data and Dark Matter constraints

The purpose of this paper is to examine the model dependence of the stringent constraints on the gluino mass obtained from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments by analyzing the Run II data using specific simplified models based on several ad hoc sparticle spectra which cannot be realized even in the fairly generic pMSSM models. We first revisit the bounds on the gluino mass placed by the ATLAS collaboration using the $1l + jets + \met$ data. We show that the exclusion region in the $M_{\widetilde{g}}-M_{\widetilde{\chi}^0_1}$ plane in the pMSSM scenario sensitively depends on the mass hierarchy between the left and right squarks and composition of the lighter electroweakinos and, to a lesser extent, other parameters. Most importantly, for higgsino type lighter electroweakinos (except for the LSP), the bound on the gluino mass from this channel practically disappears. However, if such models are confronted by the ATLAS $jets + \met$ data, fairly strong limits are regained. Thus in the pMSSM an analysis involving a small number of channels may provide more reliable mass limits. We have also performed detailed analyses on neutralino dark matter (DM) constraints in the models we have studied and have found that for a significant range of LSP masses, the relic density constraints from the WMAP/PLANCK data are satisfied and LSP-gluino coannihilation plays an important role in relic density production. We have also checked the simultaneous compatibility of the models studied here with the direct DM detection, and the LHC constraints.

Multilepton signals of heavier electroweakinos at the LHC

As sequel to a recent paper we examine the phenomenology of the full electroweakino sector of the pMSSM without invoking the adhoc but often employed assumption that the heavier ones are decoupled. We identify several generic models which illustrate the importance of the heavier electroweakinos and constrain them with the LHC $3l$ + ${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$ data. The constraints are usually stronger than that for decoupled heavier electroweakinos indicating that the LHC data is already sensitive to their presence. We also take into account the constraints from the observed dark matter relic density of the universe and precisely measured anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Using the allowed parameter space thus obtained, we show that in addition to the conventional $3l$ + ${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$ signatures novel multilepton ($ml$) + ${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$ final states with $m > 3$, which are not viable in models with lighter electroweakinos only, can be observed before the next long shut down of the LHC.

How light a higgsino or a wino dark matter can become in a compressed scenario of MSSM

Higgsinos and Wino have strong motivations for being Dark Matter (DM) candidates in supersymmetry, but their annihilation cross sections are quite large. For thermal generation and a single component DM setup the higgsinos or wino may have masses of around 1 or 2-3 TeV respectively. For such DM candidates, a small amount of slepton coannihilation may decrease the effective DM annihilation cross section. This, in turn reduces the lower limit of the relic density satisfied DM mass by more than 50%. Almost a similar degree of reduction of the same limit is also seen for squark coannihilations. However, on the contrary, for near degeneracy of squarks and higgsino DM, near its generic upper limit, the associated coannihilations may decrease the relic density, thus extending the upper limit towards higher DM masses. We also compute the direct and indirect detection signals. Here, because of the quasi-mass degeneracy of the squarks and the LSP, we come across a situation where squark exchange diagrams may contribute significantly or more strongly than the Higgs exchange contributions in the spin-independent direct detection cross section of DM. For the higgsino-DM scenario, we observe that a DM mass of 600 GeV to be consistent with WMAP/PLANCK and LUX data for sfermion coannihilations. The LUX data itself excludes the region of 450 to 600 GeV, by a half order of magnitude of the cross-section, well below the associated uncertainty. The similar combined lower limit for a wino DM is about 1.1 TeV. There is hardly any collider bound from the LHC for squarks and sleptons in such a compressed scenario where sfermion masses are close to the mass of a higgsino/wino LSP.

New Limits on Heavier Electroweakinos and their LHC Signatures

We investigate the heavier electroweakino sectors in several versions of the MSSM, which has not been explored so far in the light of the LHC data, and obtain new bounds using the ATLAS Run I constraints in the $3l + {E\!\!\!\!/_T}$ channel. We also venture beyond the trilepton events and predict several novel multilepton + ${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$ signatures of these electroweakinos which may show up before the next shutdown of the LHC.

Reduced LHC constraints for higgsino-like heavier electroweakinos

As a sequel to our earlier work on wino-dominated $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_2^{0}$ (wino models), we focus on the pMSSM models where $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_{2,3}^{0}$ are either higgsino dominated (higgsino models) or admixtures of significant amount of higgsino and wino components (mixed models), with or without light sleptons. The LHC constraints in the trilepton channel are significantly weaker even in the presence of light sleptons, especially in the higgsino models, compared to those mostly studied by the LHC collaborations with wino-dominated $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_2^{0}$. The modes $\tilde χ_{2,3}^{0}\rightarrow h~\tildeχ_1^{0}$ with large branching ratios (BRs) are more common in the higgsino models and may produce spectacular signal in the LHC Run-II. In a variety of higgsino and mixed models we have delineated the allowed parameter space due to the LHC constraints, the observed Dark Matter (DM) relic density of the universe, which gets contributions from many novel DM producing mechanisms i.e., the annihilation/coannihilation processes that lead to the correct range of relic density, and the precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In the higgsino models many new DM producing mechanisms, which are not allowed in the wino models, open up. We have also explored the prospects of direct and indirect detection of DM in the context of the LUX and IceCube experiments respectively. In an extended model having only light gluinos in addition to the electroweak sparticles, the gluinos decay into final states with multiple taggable b-jets with very large BRs. As a consequence, the existing ATLAS data in the $0l$ + jets (3b) + $E\!\!\!\!/_T$ channel provide the best limit on $m_{\tilde g}$ ($\approx$ 1.3 TeV). Several novel signatures of higgsino models for LHC Run-II and ILC have been identified.

Probing the NMSSM via Higgs boson signatures from stop cascade decays at the LHC

Higgs signatures from the cascade decays of light stops are an interesting possibility in the next to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM). We investigate the potential reach of the light stop mass at the 13 TeV run of the LHC by means of five NMSSM benchmark points where this signature is dominant. These benchmark points are compatible with current Higgs coupling measurements, LHC constraints, dark matter relic density and direct detection constraints. We consider single and di-lepton search strategies, as well as the jet-substructure technique to reconstruct the Higgs bosons. We find that one can probe stop masses up to 1.2 TeV with 300 $\rm fb^{-1}$ luminosity via the di-lepton channel, while with the jet-substructure method, stop masses up to 1 TeV can be probed with 300 $\rm fb^{-1}$ luminosity. We also investigate the possibility of the appearance of multiple Higgs peaks over the background in the fat-jet mass distribution, and conclude that such a possibility is viable only at the high luminosity run of 13 TeV LHC.

LHC signatures of neutrino mass generation through R-parity violation

We consider a model of neutrino mass based on R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry, with three $μ_i$, relevant for bilinear RPV terms, and three $λ'_{ijk}$, relevant for the trilinear terms. The present neutrino data, after a precise determination of the mixing angle $θ_{13}$, severely constrain such models. We make a thorough study of one such class of models that may have interesting signatures at the upgraded LHC. In this class of models, the relevant trilinear couplings are of the form $λ'_{i33}$, so if the lighter stop squark $\tilde{t}_1$ is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), it will decay only through these couplings, giving rise to events with isolated hard leptons and jets. Even when $\tilde{t}_1$ is the next-to-LSP (NLSP), it can decay via the tiny $λ'$ couplings allowed by the neutrino data, although it may face stiff competition from some R-parity conserving decay modes. Using a simple Pythia based simulation, we find that in both the cases the signal consisting of a pair of oppositely charged leptons ($ee$, $μμ$ or $e μ$) plus jets may be observable at the upgraded LHC experiments for a reasonable range of the $\tilde{t}_1$ mass.

The Electroweak Sector of the pMSSM in the Light of LHC - 8 TeV and Other Data

Using the chargino-neutralino and slepton search results from the LHC in conjunction with the WMAP/PLANCK and $(g-2)_μ$ data, we constrain several generic pMSSM models with decoupled strongly interacting sparticles, heavier Higgs bosons and characterized by different hierarchies among the EW sparticles. We find that some of them are already under pressure and this number increases if bounds from direct detection experiments like LUX are taken into account, keeping in mind the associated uncertainties. The XENON1T experiment is likely to scrutinize the remaining models closely. Analysing models with heavy squarks, a light gluino along with widely different EW sectors, we show that the limits on gluino mass are not likely to be below 1.1 TeV, if a multichannel analysis of the LHC data is performed. Using this light gluino scenario we further illustrate that in future LHC experiments the models with different EW sectors can be distinguished from each other by the relative sizes of the $n$-leptons + $m$-jets + ${\mbox{${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$}}$ signals for different choices of $n$.

Compressed SUSY at 14 TeV LHC

In this work we study the collider phenomenology of a compressed supersymmetric model with gluino and the lightest neutralino. All other sparticles are assumed to be heavy. We consider gluino pair production at the 14 TeV LHC and present the mass reach of gluino as a function of mass splitting between gluino and the the lightest neutralino. We find that the gluino mass below 1 TeV can be excluded at 95% CL with integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$ for extreme degenerate case where mass separation between gluino and the lightest neutralino is about 20 GeV. On the other hand, the lower bound on the mass of gluino increases to 1.2 - 1.3 TeV if the mass splitting between the gluino and neutralino is about 200 GeV. This result shows that for degenerate gluino, the current mass limit may extend approximately 400-500 GeV at 14 TeV LHC.

Enriching the exploration of the mUED model with event shape variables at the CERN LHC

We propose a new search strategy based on the event shape variables for new physics models where the separations among the masses of the particles in the spectrum are small. Collider signature of these models, characterised by low $p_T$ leptons/jets and low missing $p_T$, are known to be difficult to look for. The conventional search strategies involving hard cuts may not work in such situations. As a case study, we have investigated the hitherto neglected jets + missing $E_T$ signature -known to be a challenging one - arising from the pair productions and decay of $n =1$ KK-excitations of gluons and quarks in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model. Judicious use of the event shape variables, enables us to reduce the Standard Model backgrounds to a negligible level . We have shown that in mUED, $R^{-1}$ upto $850 ~\rm GeV$, can be explored or ruled out with 12 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the 7 TeV run of the LHC. We also discuss the prospects of employing these variables for searching other beyond standard model physics with compressed or partially compressed spectra.

SUSY darkmatter at the LHC - 7 TeV

We have analysed the early LHC signatures of the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. Our emphasis is on the 7 - $TeV$ run corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $\sim 1.0 ~fb^{-1}$ although we have also discussed briefly the prospects at LHC-10 $TeV$. We focus on the parameter space yielding relatively light squark and gluinos consistent with the darkmatter relic density data and the LEP bounds on the lightest Higgs scalar mass. This parameter space is only allowed for non-vanishing trilinear soft breaking term $A_0$. A significant region of the parameter space with large to moderate negative values of $A_0$ consistent with the stability of the scalar potential and relic density production via neutralino annihilation and/or neutralino - stau coannihilation yields observable signal via the jets + missing transverse energy channel. The one lepton + jets + missing energy signal is also viable over a smaller but non-trivial parameter space. The ratio of the size of the two signals - free from theoretical uncertainties - may distinguish between different relic density generating mechanisms. With efficient $τ$-tagging facilities at 7 $TeV$ the discriminating power may increase significantly. We also comment on other dark matter relic density allowed mSUGRA scenarios and variants there of in the context of LHC-7 $TeV$.

The interplay between the charged Higgs and squark-gluino events at the LHC

In some extensions of the standard model with extended Higgs sectors, events from new particle production may pass the selection criteria for Higgs search in different channels at the LHC - 14 TeV and mimic Higgs signals. This intriguing possibility is illustrated by PYTHIA based simulations using several representative points in the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) including a point in the minimal supergravity model consistent with the Dark matter (DM) relic density data. Our simulations explore the interplay between the charged Higgs signal and typical squark-gluino events. We argue that the standard selections like the one based on the polarization properties of the $τ$'s from charged Higgs decay, though adequate for handling the SM background, may not be very efficient in the presence of SUSY backgrounds. We then propose an alternative search strategy based on pure kinematics which sufficiently controls both the SM and the MSSM backgrounds. For charged Higgs masses ($H^{\pm}$) in the deep decoupling regime (600 GeV $\lsim m_{H^{\pm}} \lsim$ 800 GeV) this method works well and extends the LHC reach close to 800 GeV for an integrated luminosity of 30 $fb^{-1}$ with or without the SUSY background. For a lighter charged Higgs a judicious combination of the old selections and some of the cuts proposed by us may disentangle the Higgs signal from the squark-gluino backgrounds quite effectively.

Probing R-parity violating models of neutrino mass at the LHC via top squark decays

It is shown that the R-parity violating decays of the lighter top squarks (${\widetilde t}_1$) triggered by the lepton number violating couplings $λ^{\prime}_{i33}$, where the lepton family index i = 1-3, can be observed at the LHC via the dilepton di-jet channel even if the coupling is as small as 10$^{-4}$ or 10$^{-5}$, which is the case in several models of neutrino mass, provided it is the next lightest supersymmetric particle(NLSP) the lightest neutralino being the lightest supersymmetric particle(LSP). We have first obtained a fairly model independent estimate of the minimum observable value of the parameter ($P_{ij} \equiv BR(\widetilde t \to l_i^+ b) \times BR(\widetilde t^* \to l_j^- \bar b$)) at the LHC for an integrated luminosity of 10fb$^{-1}$ as a function of $\mlstop$ by a standard Pythia based analysis. We have then computed the parameter $P_{ij}$ in several representative models of neutrino mass constrained by the neutrino oscillation data and have found that the theoretical predictions are above the estimated minimum observable levels for a wide region of the parameter space.

Lepton Flavours at the Early LHC Experiments as the Footprints of the Dark Matter Producing Mechanisms

The mSUGRA parameter space corresponding to light sleptons well within the reach of LHC and relatively light squarks and gluinos (mass $\le$ 1 TeV) has three regions consistent with the WMAP data on dark matter relic density and direct mass bounds from LEP 2. Each region can lead to distinct leptonic signatures from squark-gluino events during the early LHC experiments (integrated luminosity $\sim 10 ~fb^{-1}$ or even smaller). In the much studied stau-LSP coannihilation region with a vanishing common trilinear coupling ($A_0$) at the GUT scale a large fraction of the final states contain electrons and / or muons and $e$ - $μ$ - $τ$ universality holds to a good approximation. In the not so well studied scenarios with non-vanishing $A_0$ both LSP pair annihilation and stau-LSP coannihilation could contribute significantly to the dark matter relic density for even smaller squark-gluino masses. Our simulations indicate that the corresponding signatures are final states rich in $τ$-leptons while final states with electrons and muons are suppressed leading to a violation of lepton universality. These features may be observed to a lesser extent even in the modified parameter space (with non-zero $A_0$) where the coannihilation process dominates. We also show that the generic $m$-leptons + $n$-jets+ $\not! E_T$ signatures without flavour tagging can also discriminate among the three scenarios. However, the signals become more informative if the $τ$ and $b$-jet tagging facilities at the LHC experiments are utilized.

Non-zero trilinear parameter in the mSUGRA model - dark matter and collider signals at Tevatron and LHC

Phenomenologically viable and interesting regions of parameter space in the minimal super-gravity (mSUGRA) model with small $m_0$ and small $m_{1/2}$ consistent with the WMAP data on dark matter relic density and the bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs scalar $ m_h>$ 114 GeV from LEP2 open up if the rather adhoc assumption $A_0$=0, where $A_0$ is the common trilinear soft breaking parameter, employed in most of the existing analyses is relaxed. Since this region corresponds to relatively light squarks and gluinos which are likely to be probed extensively in the very early stages of the LHC experiments, the consequences of moderate or large negative values of $A_0$ are examined in detail. We find that in this region several processes including lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) pair annihilation, LSP - lighter tau slepton (${\tilde τ}_1$) coannihilation and LSP - lighter top squark (${\tilde t}_1$) coannihilation contribute to the observed dark matter relic density. %\sout{The possibility that a relic density producing ${\tilde t}_1$ can be %observed at the current experiments at the Tevatron is wide open.} The possibility that a ${\tilde t}_1$ that can participate in coannihilation with the lightest neutralino to satisfy the WMAP bound on relic density and at the same time be observed at the current experiments at the Tevatron is wide open. At the LHC a large number of squark - gluino events lead to a very distinctive semi-inclusive signature $τ^\pm$+X$_τ$ (anything without a tau lepton) with a characteristic size much larger than $e^\pm$+X$_e$ or $μ^\pm$+X$_μ$ events.
