An existence result for nonhomogeneous quasilinear parabolic equations beyond the duality pairing

In this paper, we prove existence of \emph{very weak solutions} to nonhomogeneous quasilinear parabolic equations beyond the duality pairing. The main ingredients are a priori esitmates in suitable weighted spaces combined with the compactness argument developed in \cite{bulicek2018well}. In order to obtain the a priori estimates, we make use of the full Calderón-Zygmund machinery developed in the past few years and combine it with some sharp bounds for the subclass of Muckenhoupt weights considered in this paper.

Partial existence result for Homogeneous Quasilinear parabolic problems beyond the duality pairing

In this paper, we study the existence of distributional solutions solving \cref{main-3} on a bounded domain $Ω$ satisfying a uniform capacity density condition where the nonlinear structure $\mathcal{A}(x,t,\nabla u)$ is modelled after the standard parabolic $p$-Laplace operator. In this regard, we need to prove a priori estimates for the gradient of the solution below the natural exponent and a higher integrability result for very weak solutions at the initial boundary. The elliptic counterpart to these two estimates are fairly well developed over the past few decades, but no analogous theory exists in the quasilinear parabolic setting. Two important features of the estimates proved here are that they are non-perturbative in nature and we are able to take non-zero boundary data. \emph{As a consequence, our estimates are new even for the heat equation on bounded domains.} This partial existence result is a nontrivial extension of the existence theory of very weak solutions from the elliptic setting to the quasilinear parabolic setting. Even though we only prove partial existence result, nevertheless we establish the necessary framework that when proved would lead to obtaining the full result for the homogeneous problem.

End point gradient estimates for quasilinear parabolic equations with variable exponent growth on nonsmooth domains

In this paper, we study quasilinear parabolic equations with the nonlinearity structure modeled after the $p(x,t)$-Laplacian on nonsmooth domains. The main goal is to obtain end point Calderón-Zygmund type estimates in the variable exponent setting. In a recent work \cite{byun2016nonlinear}, the estimates obtained were strictly above the natural exponent $p(x,t)$ and hence there was a gap between the natural energy estimates and the estimates above $p(x,t)$ (see \eqref{energy} and \eqref{byunok}). Here, we bridge this gap to obtain the end point case of the estimates obtained in \cite{byun2016nonlinear}. To this end, we make use of the parabolic Lipschitz truncation developed in \cite{KL} and obtain significantly improved a priori estimates below the natural exponent with stability of the constants. An important feature of the techniques used here is that we make use of the unified intrinsic scaling introduced in \cite{adimurthi2018sharp}, which enables us to handle both the singular and degenerate cases simultaneously.

Gradient weighted estimates at the natural exponent for Quasilinear Parabolic equations

In this paper, we obtain weighted norm inequalities for the spatial gradients of weak solutions to quasilinear parabolic equations with weights in the Muckenhoupt class $A_{\frac{q}{p}}(\mathbb{R}^{n+1})$ for $q\geq p$ on non-smooth domains. Here the quasilinear nonlinearity is modelled after the standard $p$-Laplacian operator. Until now, all the weighted estimates for the gradient were obtained only for exponents $q>p$. The results for exponents $q>p$ used the full complicated machinery of the Calderón-Zygmund theory developed over the past few decades, but the constants blow up as $q \rightarrow p$ (essentially because the Maximal function is not bounded on $L^1$). In order to prove the weighted estimates for the gradient at the natural exponent, i.e., $q=p$, we need to obtain improved a priori estimates below the natural exponent. To this end, we develop the technique of Lipschitz truncation based on \cite{AdiByun2,KL} and obtain significantly improved estimates below the natural exponent. Along the way, we also obtain improved, unweighted Calderón-Zygmund type estimates below the natural exponent which is new even for the linear equations.

Interior and boundary higher integrability of very weak solutions for quasilinear parabolic equations with variable exponents

We prove boundary higher integrability for the (spatial) gradient of \emph{very weak} solutions of quasilinear parabolic equations of the form $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} u_t - div \mathcal{A}(x,t,\nabla u) = 0 &\quad \text{on} \ Ω\times (-T,T), \\ u = 0 &\quad \text{on} \ \partial Ω\times (-T,T), \end{array} \right. $$ where the non-linear structure $\mathcal{A}(x, t,\nabla u)$ is modelled after the variable exponent $p(x,t)$-Laplace operator given by $|\nabla u|^{p(x,t)-2} \nabla u$. To this end, we prove that the gradients satisfy a reverse Hölder inequality near the boundary by constructing a suitable test function which is Lipschitz continuous and preserves the boundary values. In the interior case, such a result was proved in \cite{bogelein2014very} provided $p(x,t) \geq \mathfrak{p}^- \geq 2$ holds and was then extended to the singular case $\frac{2n}{n+2}< \mathfrak{p}^-\leq p(x,t)\leq \mathfrak{p}^+ \leq 2$ in \cite{li2017very}. This restriction was necessary because the intrinsic scalings for quasilinear parabolic problems are different in the case $\mathfrak{p}^+ \leq 2$ and $\mathfrak{p}^-\geq 2$. In this paper, we develop a new unified intrinsic scaling, using which, we are able to extend the results of \cite{bogelein2014very,li2017very} to the full range $\frac{2n}{n+2} < \mathfrak{p}^- \leq p(x,t)\leq \mathfrak{p}^+<\infty$ and also obtain analogous results upto the boundary. \emph{The main novelty of this paper is that our methods are able to handle both the singular case and degenerate case simultaneously.} To simplify the exposition, we will only prove the higher integrability result near the boundary, provided the domain $Ω$ satisfies a uniform measure density condition. Our techniques are also applicable to higher order equations as well as systems.

Boundary higher integrability for very weak solutions of quasilinear parabolic equations

We prove boundary higher integrability for the (spatial) gradient of \emph{very weak} solutions of quasilinear parabolic equations of the form $$u_t - \text{div}\,\mathcal{A}(x,t, \nabla u)=0 \quad \text{on} \ Ω\times \mathbb{R},$$ where the non-linear structure $\text{div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, t,\nabla u)$ is modelled after the $p$-Laplace operator. To this end, we prove that the gradients satisfy a reverse Hölder inequality near the boundary. In order to do this, we construct a suitable test function which is Lipschitz continuous and preserves the boundary values. \emph{These results are new even for linear parabolic equations on domains with smooth boundary and make no assumptions on the smoothness of $\mathcal{A}(x,t,\nabla u)$}. These results are also applicable for systems as well as higher order parabolic equations.

Sharp gradient estimates for quasilinear elliptic equations with $p(x)$ growth on nonsmooth domains

In this paper, we study quasilinear elliptic equations with the nonlinearity modelled after the $p(x)$-Laplacian on nonsmooth domains and obtain sharp Calderón-Zygmund type estimates in the variable exponent setting. In a recent work of \cite{BO}, the estimates obtained were strictly above the natural exponent and hence there was a gap between the natural energy estimates and estimates above $p(x)$, see \eqref{energy_introduction} and \eqref{byun_ok_estimate}. Here, we bridge this gap to obtain the end point case of the estimates obtained in \cite{BO}, see \eqref{our_estimate}. In order to do this, we have to obtain significantly improved a priori estimates below $p(x)$, which is the main contribution of this paper. We also improve upon the previous results by obtaining the estimates for a larger class of domains than what was considered in the literature.

Global Sobolev regularity for general elliptic equations of $p$-Laplacian type

We derive global gradient estimates for $W^{1,p}_0(Ω)$-weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic equations of the form $$ \mathrm{div\,}\mathbf{a}(x,u,Du)=\mathrm{div\,}(|F|^{p-2}F) $$ over $n$-dimensional Reifenberg flat domains. The nonlinear term of the elliptic differential operator is supposed to be small-BMO with respect to $x$ and Hölder continuous in $u.$ In the case when $p\geq n,$ we allow only continuous nonlinearity in $u.$ Our result highly improves the known regularity results available in the literature. In fact, we are able not only to weaken the regularity requirement on the nonlinearity in $u$ from Lipschitz continuity to Hölder one, but we also find a very lower level of geometric assumptions on the boundary of the domain to ensure global character of the obtained gradient estimates.

Nondivergence elliptic and parabolic problems with irregular obstacles

We prove the natural weighted Calderón and Zygmund estimates for solutions to elliptic and parabolic obstacle problems in nondivergence form with discontinuous coefficients and irregular obstacles. We also obtain Morrey regularity results for the Hessian of the solutions and Hölder continuity of the gradient of the solutions.

Global gradient estimates in weighted Lebesgue spaces for parabolic operators

We deal with the regularity problem for linear, second order parabolic equations and systems in divergence form with measurable data over non-smooth domains, related to variational problems arising in the modeling of composite materials and in the mechanics of membranes and films of simple non-homogeneous materials which form a linear laminated medium. Assuming partial BMO smallness of the coefficients and Reifenberg flatness of the boundary of the underlying domain, we develop a Calderón--Zygmund type theory for such parabolic operators in the settings of the weighted Lebesgue spaces. As consequence of the main result, we get regularity in parabolic Morrey scales for the spatial gradient of the weak solutions to the problems considered.

Weighted $L^p$-estimates for elliptic equations with measurable coefficients in nonsmooth domains

We obtain a global weighted $L^p$ estimate for the gradient of the weak solutions to divergence form elliptic equations with measurable coefficients in a nonsmooth bounded domain. The coefficients are assumed to be merely measurable in one variable and to have small BMO semi-norms in the remaining variables, while the boundary of the domain is supposed to be Reifenberg flat, which goes beyond the category of domains with Lipschitz continuous boundaries. As consequence of the main result, we derive global gradient estimate for the weak solution in the framework of the Morrey spaces which implies global Hoelder continuity of the solution.
