The pion-nucleon sigma term from lattice QCD

We present an analysis of the pion-nucleon $σ$-term, $σ_{πN}$, using six ensembles with 2+1+1-flavor highly improved staggered quark action generated by the MILC collaboration. The most serious systematic effect in lattice calculations of nucleon correlation functions is the contribution of excited states. We estimate these using chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT), and show that the leading contribution to the isoscalar scalar charge comes from N$π$ and N$ππ$ states. Therefore, we carry out two analyses of lattice data to remove excited-state contamination, the standard one and a new one including N$π$ and N$ππ$ states. We find that the standard analysis gives $σ_{πN} = 41.9(4.9)$ MeV, consistent with previous lattice calculations, while our preferred $χ$PT-motivated analysis gives $σ_{πN} = 59.6(7.4)$ MeV, which is consistent with phenomenological values obtained using $π$N scattering data. Our data on one physical pion mass ensemble was crucial for exposing this difference, therefore, calculations on additional physical mass ensembles are needed to confirm our result and resolve the tension between lattice QCD and phenomenology.

Strange and charm contributions to nucleon charges and moments

We present preliminary results for strange and charm contributions to nucleon charges and moments. The scalar, axial and tensor charges, and unpolarized first moments are calculated using clover-on-HISQ formulation and cover four lattice spacings, $a=\{0.06,0.09,0.12, 0.15\}$~fm, and three pion masses, $M_π=\{310,220,130\}$~MeV. The renormalization factors are calculated nonperturbatively using the RI-sMOM scheme. We carry out a chiral and continuum extrapolation to obtain physical results.

KoDF: A Large-scale Korean DeepFake Detection Dataset

A variety of effective face-swap and face-reenactment methods have been publicized in recent years, democratizing the face synthesis technology to a great extent. Videos generated as such have come to be called deepfakes with a negative connotation, for various social problems they have caused. Facing the emerging threat of deepfakes, we have built the Korean DeepFake Detection Dataset (KoDF), a large-scale collection of synthesized and real videos focused on Korean subjects. In this paper, we provide a detailed description of methods used to construct the dataset, experimentally show the discrepancy between the distributions of KoDF and existing deepfake detection datasets, and underline the importance of using multiple datasets for real-world generalization. KoDF is publicly available at https://moneybrain-research.github.io/kodf in its entirety (i.e. real clips, synthesized clips, clips with adversarial attack, and metadata).

Moments of nucleon isovector structure functions in $2+1+1$-flavor QCD

We present results on the isovector momentum fraction, $\langle x \rangle_{u-d}$, helicity moment, $\langle x \rangle_{Δu-Δd}$, and the transversity moment, $\langle x \rangle_{δu-δd}$, of the nucleon obtained using nine ensembles of gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration using $2+1+1$-flavors of dynamical highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ). The correlation functions are calculated using the Wilson-Clover action and the renormalization of the three operators is carried out nonperturbatively on the lattice in the RI${}^\prime$-MOM scheme. The data have been collected at lattice spacings $a \approx 0.15,\ 0.12,\ 0.09,$ and 0.06 fm and $M_π\approx 310,\ 220$ and 135 MeV, which are used to obtain the physical values using a simultaneous chiral-continuum-finite-volume fit. The final results, in the $\overline{MS}$ scheme at 2 GeV, are $\langle x \rangle_{u-d} = 0.173(14)(07)$, $\langle x \rangle_{Δu-Δd} = 0.213(15)(22)$ and $\langle x \rangle_{δu-δd} = 0.208(19)(24)$, where the first error is the overall analysis uncertainty and the second is an additional systematic uncertainty due to possible residual excited-state contributions. These results are consistent with other recent lattice calculations and phenomenological global fit values.

Nucleon Momentum Fraction, Helicity and Transversity from 2+1-flavor Lattice QCD

High statistics results for the isovector momentum fraction, $\langle x \rangle_{u-d}$, helicity moment, $\langle x \rangle_{Δu-Δd}$, and the transversity moment, $\langle x\rangle_{δu-δd}$, of the nucleon are presented using seven ensembles of gauge configurations generated by the JLab/W&M/LANL/MIT collaborations using $2+1$-flavors of dynamical Wilson-clover quarks. Attention is given to understanding and controlling the contributions of excited states. The final results are obtained using a simultaneous fit in the lattice spacing $a$, pion mass $M_π$ and the finite volume parameter $M_πL$ keeping leading order corrections. The data show no significant dependence on the lattice spacing and some evidence for finite-volume corrections. The main variation is with $M_π$, whose magnitude depends on the mass gap of the first excited state used in the analysis. Our final results, in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme at 2 GeV, are $\langle x \rangle_{u-d} = 0.160(16)(20)$, $\langle x \rangle_{Δu-Δd} = 0.192(13)(20)$ and $\langle x \rangle_{δu-δd} = 0.215(17)(20)$, where the first error is the overall analysis uncertainty assuming excited-state contributions have been removed, and the second is an additional systematic uncertainty due to possible residual excited-state contributions. These results are consistent with other recent lattice calculations and phenomenological global fit values.

Semileptonic $B \to D^{(\ast)} \ellν$ Decay Form Factors using the Oktay-Kronfeld Action

We report recent progress in calculating semileptonic form factors for the $\bar{B} \to D^\ast \ell \barν$ and $\bar{B} \to D \ell \barν$ decays using the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for bottom and charm quarks. We use the second order in heavy quark effective power counting $\mathcal{O}(λ^2)$ improved currents in this work. The HISQ action is used for the light spectator quarks. We analyzed four $2+1+1$-flavor MILC HISQ ensembles with $a\approx 0.09\,\mathrm{fm}$, $0.12\,\mathrm{fm}$ and $M_π\approx 220\,\mathrm{MeV}$, $310\,\mathrm{MeV}$: $a09m220$, $a09m310$, $a12m220$, $a12m310$. Preliminary results for $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ decays form factor $h_{A_1}(w)$ at zero recoil ($w=1$) are reported. Preliminary results for $B \to D\,\ellν$ decays form factors $h_\pm(w)$ over a kinematic range $1<w<1.3$ are reported as well.

Leptonic decays of $B_{(s)}$ and $D_{(s)}$ using the OK action

We present recent progress in the lattice calculation of leptonic decay constants for $B_{(s)}$ and $D_{(s)}$ mesons using the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for charm and bottom valence quarks, whose masses are tuned non-perturbatively. The calculations are done on 6 HISQ ensembles generated by the MILC collaboration with $N_f=2+1+1$ flavors. We also use the HISQ action for the light spectator quarks. Results are presented for the ratios $f_{B_s}/f_B$ and $f_{D_s}/f_D$, which reflect $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry breaking, and are independent of the renormalization constants of the axial currents.

Nucleon charges and form factors using clover and HISQ ensembles

We present high statistics ($\mathcal{O}(2\times 10^5)$ measurements) preliminary results on (i) the isovector charges, $g^{u-d}_{A,S,T}$, and form factors, $G^{u-d}_E(Q^2)$, $G^{u-d}_M(Q^2)$, $G^{u-d}_A(Q^2)$, $\widetilde G^{u-d}_P(Q^2)$, $G^{u-d}_P(Q^2)$, on six 2+1-flavor Wilson-clover ensembles generated by the JLab/W&M/LANL/MIT collaboration with lattice parameters given in Table 1. Examples of the impact of using different estimates of the excited state spectra are given for the clover-on-clover data, and as discussed in [1], the biggest difference on including the lower energy (close to $Nπ$ and $Nππ$) states is in the axial channel. (ii) Flavor diagonal axial, tensor and scalar charges, $g^{u,d,s}_{A,S,T}$, are calculated with the clover-on-HISQ formulation using nine 2+1+1-flavor HISQ ensembles generated by the MILC collaboration [2] with lattice parameters given in Table 2. Once finished, the calculations of $g^{u,d,s}_{A,T}$ will update the results given in Refs.[3,4]. The estimates for $g^{u,d,s}_{S}$ and $σ_{Nπ}$ are new. Overall, a large part of the focus is on understanding the excited state contamination (ESC), and the results discussed provide a partial status report on developing defensible analyses strategies that include contributions of possible low-lying excited states to individual nucleon matrix elements.

Nucleon Axial Form Factors from Clover Fermion on 2+1+1-flavor HISQ Lattice

The nucleon axial form factors -- axial $G_A$, induced pseudoscalar $\widetilde{G}_P$ and pseudoscalar $G_P$ -- have displayed large systematics in lattice QCD calculations. The major symptoms were the violation of the partially conserved axial current (PCAC) relation between the three form factors, and the underestimation of the induced pseudoscalar coupling $g_P^\ast$ and the axial charge radius $r_A$ compared to phenomenological estimates. The small $g_P^\ast$ was a consequence of the failure of the pion-pole dominance (PPD) hypothesis, especially at low $M_π^2$. The small charge radius $r_A$ and the underestimate of $g_A$ were related. The dominant systematic responsible is the lack of inclusion of low-energy ($N π$) states that are not manifest in the multiexponential fit to the nucleon two-point correlator. We show that this low-energy state can be determined from the three-point correlator $\langle N A_4 N \rangle $ with the insertion of the temporal component of the axial current $A_4$ within the nucleon state, ie, the strategy labeled $S_{A4}$ [1]. Including this low-energy state in fits to control excited-state contamination (ESC) gives results for $g_A$, $r_A$, and $g_P^\ast$ that are consistent with experimental/phenomenological values. However, the systematic uncertainties, especially in data at small $Q^2$, are now much larger.

2019 Update on $\varepsilon_K$ with lattice QCD inputs

We present updated results for $\varepsilon_K$ determined directly from the standard model (SM) with lattice QCD inputs such as $\hat{B}_K$, $|V_{cb}|$, $|V_{us}|$, $ξ_0$, $ξ_2$, $ξ_\text{LD}$, $f_K$, and $m_c$. We find that the standard model with exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ and other lattice QCD inputs describes only 65\% of the experimental value of $|\varepsilon_K|$ and does not explain its remaining 35\%, which leads to a strong tension in $|\varepsilon_K|$ at the $4.6σ\sim 4.2σ$ level between the SM theory and experiment. We also find that this tension disappears when we use the inclusive value of $|V_{cb}|$ obtained using the heavy quark expansion based on QCD sum rules.

Spatial Channel Covariance Estimation for Hybrid Architectures Based on Tensor Decompositions

Spatial channel covariance information can replace full instantaneous channel state information for the analog precoder design in hybrid analog/digital architectures. Obtaining spatial channel covariance estimation, however, is challenging in the hybrid structure due to the use of fewer radio frequency (RF) chains than the number of antennas. In this paper, we propose a spatial channel covariance estimation method based on higher-order tensor decomposition for spatially sparse time-varying frequency-selective channels. The proposed method leverages the fact that the channel can be represented as a low-rank higher-order tensor. We also derive the Cramér-Rao lower bound on the estimation accuracy of the proposed method. Numerical results and theoretical analysis show that the proposed tensor-based approach achieves higher estimation accuracy in comparison with prior compressive-sensing-based approaches or conventional angle-of-arrival estimation approaches. Simulation results reveal that the proposed approach becomes more beneficial at low signal-to-noise (SNR) region.

Update on $B\to D^\ast \ell ν$ form factor at zero-recoil using the Oktay-Kronfeld action

We present an update on the calculation of $\bar{B}\to D^\ast \ell \barν$ semileptonic form factor at zero recoil using the Oktay-Kronfeld bottom and charm quarks on $N_f=2+1+1$ flavor HISQ ensembles generated by the MILC collaboration. Preliminary results are given for two ensembles with $a\approx 0.12$ and $0.09$ fm and $M_π\approx 310$ MeV. Calculations have been done with a number of valence quark masses, and the dependence of the form factor on them is investigated on the $a\approx 0.12$ fm ensemble. The excited state is controlled by using multistate fits to the three-point correlators measured at 4--6 source-sink separations.

2018 Update on $\varepsilon_K$ with lattice QCD inputs

We present updated results for $\varepsilon_K$ determined directly from the standard model (SM) with lattice QCD inputs such as $\hat{B}_K$, $|V_{cb}|$, $|V_{us}|$, $ξ_0$, $ξ_2$, $ξ_\text{LD}$, $F_K$, and $m_c$. We find that the standard model with exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ and other lattice QCD inputs describes only 70% of the experimental value of $|\varepsilon_K|$ and does not explain its remaining 30%, which leads to a strong tension in $|\varepsilon_K|$ at the $4σ$ level between the SM theory and experiment. We also find that this tension disappears when we use the inclusive value of $|V_{cb}|$ obtained using the heavy quark expansion based on QCD sum rules.

Updated evaluation of $\varepsilon_K$ in the Standard Model with lattice QCD inputs

We report a strong tension in $\varepsilon_K$ at the $4σ$ level between the experimental value and the theoretical value calculated directly from the standard model using lattice QCD inputs such as $\hat{B}_K$, $|V_{cb}|$, $|V_{us}|$, $ξ_0$, $ξ_2$, $ξ_\text{LD}$, $F_K$, and $m_c$. The standard model with lattice QCD inputs describes only 70% of the experimental value of $\varepsilon_K$, and does not explain its remaining 30%. We also find that this tension disappears when we use the inclusive value of $|V_{cb}|$ (results of the heavy quark expansion based on QCD sum rules) to determine $\varepsilon_K$. This tension is highly correlated with the present discrepancy between the exclusive and inclusive values of $|V_{cb}|$. In order to resolve, in part, the issue with $|V_{cb}|$, it would be highly desirable to have a comprehensive re-analysis over the entire set of experimental data on the $\bar{B} \to D^* \ell \barν$ decays using an alternative parametrization of the form factors, such as the BGL parametrization, and a comparison with results of the CLN method.

Spatial Channel Covariance Estimation for the Hybrid MIMO Architecture: A Compressive Sensing Based Approach

Spatial channel covariance information can replace full knowledge of the entire channel matrix for designing analog precoders in hybrid multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) architecture. Spatial channel covariance estimation, however, is challenging for the hybrid MIMO architecture because the estimator operating at baseband can only obtain a lower dimensional pre-combined signal through fewer radio frequency (RF) chains than antennas. In this paper, we propose two approaches for covariance estimation based on compressive sensing techniques. One is to apply a time-varying sensing matrix, and the other is to exploit the prior knowledge that the covariance matrix is Hermitian. We present the rationale of the two ideas and validate the superiority of the proposed methods by theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. We conclude the paper by extending the proposed algorithms from narrowband massive MIMO systems with a single receive antenna to wideband systems with multiple receive antennas.

Calculation of $\bar B \rightarrow D^\ast \ell \bar ν$ form factor at zero recoil using the Oktay-Kronfeld action

We present the first preliminary results for the semileptonic form factor $h_{A_1}(w=1)/ρ_{A_j}$ at zero recoil for the $\bar B \rightarrow D^\ast \ell \bar ν$ decay using lattice QCD with four flavors of sea quarks. We use the HISQ staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC HISQ configurations), and the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the heavy valence quarks.

Tuning the hopping parameter in the Oktay-Kronfeld action for charm and bottom quarks on a MILC HISQ ensemble

The first step in the calculation of semi-leptonic form factors in the decay of heavy mesons is the tuning of the hopping parameter $κ$ for the charm and bottom quark masses. Results for the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action are presented for one $N_f=2+1+1$ HISQ ensemble generated by the MILC collaboration at $a\approx 0.12\,\mathrm{fm}$ and $M_π\approx 310$ MeV. Estimates of hyperfine splitting of heavy-light and heavy-heavy mesons are presented and the inconsistency parameter is evaluated.
