Existence for the Supercooled Stefan Problem in General Dimensions

We prove the global-time existence of weak solutions to the supercooled Stefan problem. Our result holds in general space dimensions and with a general class of initial data. In addition, our solution is maximal in the sense of a certain stochastic order, among all comparable weak solutions starting from the same initial data. Our approach is based on a free target optimization problem for Brownian stopping times, where the main idea is to introduce a superharmonic cost function in the optimization problem. We will show that our choice of the cost function causes the target measure to accumulate near the prescribed domain boundary as much as possible. A central ingredient in our proof lies in the usage of dual problem: we prove the dual attainment and use the dual optimal solution to characterize the primal optimal solution. It follows in turn that the underlying particle dynamics yields a solution to the supercooled Stefan problem.

Homogenization of oblique boundary value problems

We consider a nonlinear Neumann problem, with periodic oscillation in the elliptic operator and on the boundary condition. Our focus is on problems posed in half-spaces, but with general normal directions that may not be parallel to the directions of periodicity. As the frequency of the oscillation grows, quantitative homogenization results are derived. When the homogenized operator is rotation-invariant, we prove the Hölder continuity of the homogenized boundary data.

Regularity and asymptotic behavior of laminar flames in higher dimensions

We study a parabolic free boundary problem, arising from a model for the propagation of equi-diffusional premixed flames with high activation energy. If an initial data is compactly supported, then the solution vanishes in a finite time, called the extinction time. In this paper, we give a quantitative estimate on the flatness of the free boundary and prove that the free boundary is asymptotically spherical and the solution is asymptotically self-similar.

Homogenization for nonlinear PDEs in general domains with oscillatory Neumann boundary data

In this article we investigate averaging properties of fully nonlinear PDEs in bounded domains with oscillatory Neumann boundary data. The oscillation is periodic and is present both in the operator and in the Neumann data. Our main result states that, when the domain does not have flat boundary parts and when the homogenized operator is rotation invariant, the solutions uniformly converge to the homogenized solution solving a Neumann boundary problem. Furthermore we show that the homogenized Neumann data is continuous with respect to the normal direction of the boundary.

Two phase Stefan-type problem: Regularization near initial data by phase dynamics

We investigate the regularizing behavior of two-phase Stefan problem near initial data. The main step in the analysis is to establish that in any given scale, the scaled solution is very close to a Lipschitz profile in space-time. We introduce a new decomposition argument to generalize the preceding ones by Choi, Jerion and Kim([CJK1], [CJK2]) and by Choi and Kim([CK]) on one-phase problems.
