Route-Guided CBF-QP Repair for Safe Vision-Language-Action Models

Vision-language-action (VLA) models can generate task-oriented robot actions, but they do not guarantee safe execution in obstacle-rich manipulation scenes. Although CBF-QP safety filters can locally project unsafe actions into a safe set, such correction may push the robot away from the learned task trajectory and leave the VLA policy without a reliable recovery direction. We propose Route-Guided CBF-QP Repair, a post-hoc repair module that uses the short-horizon action chunk predicted by the VLA to detect blocked nominal trajectories and generate entry-exit-rejoin guidance around obstacles. The selected route is added to the CBF-QP objective as a soft guidance term, while the CBF safety constraint remains hard. On SafeLIBERO, our method improves collision avoidance, task success, and SafeSuccess compared with AEGIS. Our project page is available at GitHub.

Pivot-SD: Efficient Self-Distillation for Masked Diffusion Language Models

Masked diffusion language models (dLMs) offer a promising parallel alternative to autoregressive models for complex reasoning. However, they face a distinct credit-assignment challenge, since a few commitments during denoising sharply reduce the uncertainty over the remaining masked positions and shape much of the response. Most post-training recipes for dLMs do not use this signal to decide which tokens to train on: they typically train on the final text or assign rewards to whole denoising steps, rather than selecting the individual commitments that shape the response. We introduce Pivot-SD, an efficient offline self-distillation framework that supervises only these high-impact commitments (pivots). Pivot-SD selects pivots using an information-gain metric measuring uncertainty reduction over the remaining masked positions. Pivots from successful trajectories are trained with cross-entropy, and pivots from failed trajectories with targeted unlikelihood, leaving the rest of the failed trajectory untouched. Using only 200 questions and four rollouts each, Pivot-SD improves LLaDA-8B-Instruct over full-sequence SFT and budget-matched diffusion RL baselines across math and code benchmarks.

KLASS: KL-Guided Fast Inference in Masked Diffusion Models

Masked diffusion models have demonstrated competitive results on various tasks including language generation. However, due to its iterative refinement process, the inference is often bottlenecked by slow and static sampling speed. To overcome this problem, we introduce `KL-Adaptive Stability Sampling' (KLASS), a fast yet effective sampling method that exploits token-level KL divergence to identify stable, high-confidence predictions. By unmasking multiple tokens in each iteration without any additional model training, our approach speeds up generation significantly while maintaining sample quality. On reasoning benchmarks, KLASS achieves up to $2.78\times$ wall-clock speedups while improving performance over standard greedy decoding, attaining state-of-the-art results among diffusion-based samplers. We further validate KLASS across diverse domains, including text, image, and molecular generation, showing its effectiveness as a broadly applicable sampler across different models.
