Wire-by-Wire Tracking Efficiency Plots: A New Diagnostic for the Belle~II Central Drift Chamber

Large detectors are often monitored at the channel level (drift time, collected charge, and hit maps), which validates hardware but not tracking performance. A wire-by-wire tracking efficiency diagnostic is presented for the Belle~II Central Drift Chamber~(CDC). The method is directly analogous to the extrapolation-based efficiency measurement standard in resistive-plate-chamber~(RPC) stacks developed for the India-based Neutrino Observatory~(INO). A reference track (helix) is extrapolated to each wire layer; the fraction of crossings that contain an associated hit defines the per-wire efficiency. Implemented in the Belle~II Data Quality Monitoring~(DQM) framework and validated on Monte Carlo simulation with controlled dead-wire conditions, the method reveals localised tracking failures that are invisible to conventional channel-level diagnostics. The resulting plots provide direct feedback for run selection, operations, and long-term ageing studies.

End-to-End Multi-Track Reconstruction using Graph Neural Networks at Belle II

We present the study of an end-to-end multi-track reconstruction algorithm for the central drift chamber of the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider using Graph Neural Networks for an unknown number of particles. The algorithm uses detector hits as inputs without pre-filtering to simultaneously predict the number of track candidates in an event and their kinematic properties. In a second step, we cluster detector hits for each track candidate to pass to a track fitting algorithm. Using a realistic full detector simulation including beam-induced backgrounds and detector noise taken from actual collision data, we find significant improvements in track finding efficiencies for tracks in a variety of different event topologies compared to the existing baseline algorithm used in Belle II. For events with a hypothetical long-lived massive particle with a mass in the GeV-range decaying uniformly along its flight direction into two charged particles, the GNN achieves a combined track finding and fitting efficiency of 85.4% with a fake rate of 2.5%, compared to 52.2% and 4.1% for the baseline algorithm. This is the first end-to-end multi-track machine learning algorithm for a drift chamber detector that has been utilized in a realistic particle physics environment.

Charge ratio of cosmic ray muons in momentum range ~ 1 to 3 GeV/c

This work presents the measurements of the cosmic muon charge ratio as a function of full azimuthal angle and momentum within the range of 0.8 to 3.0 GeV/c, using the mini-ICAL detector. The detector, comprising 10 layers of RPCs, has collected cosmic muon data since August 2018 till recent time, at an altitude of 160 m above sea level at the Inter-Institutional Center for High Energy Physics in Madurai, India $(9^\circ56'\,N, 78^\circ00'\,E)$. The muon charge identification is achieved through the use of a magnetic field of strength 1.4 T. The analysis shows that the cosmic muon charge ratio, $R_μ= N_{μ^+}/N_{μ^-}$, ranges from 1.1 to 1.2 and has small dependency on the zenith angle. The charge ratio's dependence on momentum and azimuthal angle is thoroughly examined for a wide range of zenith angle upto $50^\circ$. These measurements are compared with the predictions from various combinations of different hadronic models in CORSIKA extensive air shower simulations.

Study of Particle Multiplicity of Cosmic Ray Events using 2m$\times$2m Resistive Plate Chamber Stack at IICHEP-Madurai

An experimental setup consisting of 12 layers of glass Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) of size 2\,m\,$\times$\,2\,m has been built at IICHEP-Madurai (\ang{9;56;14.5}\,N \ang{78;00;47.9}\,E, on the surface) to study the long term performance and stability of RPCs produced on large scale in Indian industry. This setup has been collecting data triggered by the passage of charged particles. The measurement of the multiplicity of charged particles due to cosmic ray interactions are presented here. Finally, the results are compared with different hadronic models of the CORSIKA simulation.

Leak Test of Resistive Plate Chamber Gap by Monitoring Absolute Pressure

The India-based Neutrino Observatory Project (INO) is a proposed underground high energy physics experiment at Theni, India to study the neutrino oscillation parameters using atmospheric neutrinos. The 50 kton magnetised INO-ICAL detector will require approximately 30,000 of 2m$\times$2m Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) as sensitive detectors and proposed to operate for about 20 years. For success of the experiment, each of the RPCs has to function without showing any significant aging during the period of operation. Hence, various tests including a proper leak test are performed during and after production. The methods of leak rate calculation using conventional manometer are valid only when both the volume of the test subject and ambient pressure are kept constant. But both these quantities for a RPC gas gap depend widely on the ambient pressure and temperature. A proper quantitative estimation of the leak rate cannot be acquired from such pressure measurements. By monitoring the absolute pressures, both outside and inside of an RPC, along with the temperature, its leakage rate can be estimated. During the test period, the supporting button spacers inside an RPC may get detached due to manufacturing defect. This effect also needs to be detected.
