Language Independent Speech Emotion and Non-invasive Early Detection of Neurocognitive Disorder

Emotions(like fear, anger, sadness, happiness etc.) are the fundamental features of human behavior and governs his/her mental health. The subtlety of emotional fluctuations can be examined through perturbation in conversations or speech. Analysis of emotional state of a person from acoustical features of speech signal leads to discovery of vital cues determining his or her mental health. Hence, it's an important field of research in the area of Human Computer Interaction(HCI). In a recent work we have shown that how the contrast in Hurst-Exponent calculated from the non-stationary and nonlinear aspects of "angry" and "sad" speech(spoken in English language) recordings in the Toronto-Emotional-Speech-Set(TESS) can be used for early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. In this work we have extended the work and extracted Hurst-exponent for the speech-signals of similar emotions but spoken in German language. It has been observed that the Hurst-exponent efficiently segregates the contrasting emotions of "anger" and "sadness" in the speech spoken in German language, in similar fashion it has been doing for English speech. Hence it can be concluded that the Hurst-exponent can differentiate among speech spoken out of different emotions in language-independent manner. We propose algorithm for a language-independent application for early non-invasive detection of various severe neurocognitive-disorders like Alzheimer's Disease, MND(motor-neuron-disorder), ASD(autism-spectrum-disorder), depression, suicidal-tendency etc. which is not possible with the state of the art medical science.

Analysis of Prospective Super-Symmetry Inherent in the $pp$ Collision Data at $7$ TeV from CMS Collaboration Using Novel Two-Dimensional Multifractal-Detrended Fluctuation Analysis Method with Rectangular Scale

Search for SUSY in HEP is of enormous interest for the past few decades. Continuous searches were conducted at LHC regarding SUSY for prompt, non-prompt, R-parity conserving and violating generation and decays. The limits obtained from these analysis to detect the signatures of SUSY particles, revealed greater possibilities of such experiments in collider. These signatures are usually derived assuming a bit optimistic conditions of the decaying process of s-particles to final-states. Moreover, SUSY might have been in a disguised state in lower-mass scales resulting from challenging mass-spectra and mixed-modes of decays. The proposed chaos-based, novel method of 2D-Multifractal-Detrended-Fluctuation-Analysis(2D-MF-DFA), is extended using rectangular scale. The experimental data-surfaces are constructed using the component-space(in the X,Y,Z co-ordinates) taken out from the 4-momenta of final-state-signatures of the produced di-muons from the selected events. Two publicly-available datasets are used here. First is the data from MultiJet primary pp collision-data from RunB(2010) at 7TeV, used in analysis of the SUSY with Razor-variables. Second is the data from primary dataset of pp collisions at 7TeV from RunA(2011) of CMS-collaboration. The 2D-MF behaviour of particle production process is studied in terms of symmetry-scaling, the inherent scale-freeness and multifractality. The analysis outcome for SUSY data is compared with the same for the non-SUSY data in terms of the generalized Hurst-exponent and 2D-MF spectrum width. Significantly different scaling behaviour and long-range correlation is observed between the final-state-signatures of the di-lepton production-process of the first and second datasets. This difference may indicate a possible signature of SUSY which may be missed in the conventional method of analysing the invariant-mass/transverse-momentum-spectrum.

Study of Di-muon Production Process in $pp$ Collision in CMS Data from Symmetry Scaling Perspective

A deailed knowledge of pp collision is required both as input to comprehensive theoretical models of strong interactions and as baseline to decipher the AA collisions at relativistic and ultrarelativistic energies, which has been of great interest in the area of theoretical and experimental physics. The multiplicity distribution of particles produced in pp collisions and the multiplicity dependence of various global event features serve as rudimentary observables which reflect the features of the inherent dynamics of the process of particle production. Recent availability of dimuon data has triggered spur of interests in revisiting strong interaction process, the study of which in detail is extremely important for enhancement of our understanding on not only the theory of strong interaction but also possible physics scenarios beyond the standard model. Numerous papers have come up where background of production process of dimuon in pp collision has been discussed and analyzed particularly for production of dimuon from γγ interaction. Apart from conventional approaches the present authors proposed a new approach with successful application in context of symmetry scaling in AA collision data from ALICE, pp collisions at 8TeV from CMS and so on. The different approach essentially analyses fluctuation pattern from the perspective of symmetry scaling or degree of self-similarity involved in the process. The proposed methods of analysis using pseudorapidity values of di-muon data taken from the primary dataset of RunA(2011)-7TeV and RunB(2012)-8TeV of the pp collision from CMS, reveal that pseudorapidity spaces corresponding to different ranges of rapidity are highly scale-free and the scaling pattern changes from one rapidity range to another at both energy. Also, the degree of cross-correlation between rapidity and azimuthal space has been found to follow the similar behavior.

Symmetry-Scaling Based Complex Network Approach to Explore Exotic Hadronic States in High-Energy Collision

Conventionally invariant mass or transverse momentum techniques have been used to probe for any formation of some exotic or unusual resonance states in high energy collision. In this work, we have applied symmetry scaling based complex network approach to study exotic resonance/hadronic states utilizing the clustering coefficients and associated scaling parameter extracted with the complex network based technique of Visibility Graph. We have analyzed the data of Pb-Pb collision data sample at 2.76 TeV from ALICE Collaboration and analyzed different patterns of symmetry scaling, scale-freeness, correlation and clustering among the produced particles. This is a chaos-based complex network technique where simple parameters like Average Clustering Coefficient and Power of Scale-freeness of Visibility Graph(PSVG) may hint at formation of some exotic or unusual resonance states without using conventional methods. From this experiment we may infer that highest range of Average clustering coefficient, might be the resonance states/clusters from where the hadronic decay might have occurred and few clusters with highest value of this parameter may indicate that those clusters may be the ancestors of some strange particles. There have also been extensive study of dilepton production since the study of lepton pair generation in Drell-Yan processes is immensely important as these processes enable us to validate the Standard Model-SM predictions for the fundamental particles interaction at the new energy region and also to probe for new physics beyond SM. Hence we have applied the same methodology and extracted the same parameters for p-p collision data at 8TeV from CMS, to detect possible resonance states eventually generating lepton pairs.

Pion Fluctuation Study in Pb-Pb Collision at 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair from ALICE Experiment with Chaos and Complex Network-based Methods

Chaos and complex-network based study is performed to look for signature of phase transition in Pb-Pb collision data sample at 2.76TeV per nucleon pair from ALICE Collaboration. The analysis is done on the pseudorapidity values extracted from the data of ALICE experiment and the methods used are Multifractal-Detrended-Fluctuation-Analysis(MF-DFA), and a rigorous chaos-based, complex-network based method - Visibility-Graph(VG) analysis. The fractal behavior of pionisation process is studied by utilizing MF-DFA method for extracting the Hurst exponent and Multifractal-spectrum-width to analyze the scale-freeness and fractality inherent in the fluctuation pattern of eta. Then VG method is used to analyze the fluctuation from a completely different perspective of complex network. This algorithm's scale-freeness detection mechanism to extract the Power-of-Scale-freeness-of-Visibility-Graph(PSVG), re-establishes the scale-freeness and fractality. Earlier, it has been shown that the scaling behavior is different from one hadron-nucleus($π^{-}$-AgBr(350 GeV)) to one nucleus-nucleus($^{32}$S-AgBr(200 A GeV)) interaction which is of comparatively higher total energy. In this work, we have compared the fluctuation pattern in terms of 3 rigorous parameters - Multifractal-spectrum-width, Hurst exponent and PSVG, between Pb-Pb(2.76TeV per nucleon pair) data and either of $π^{-}$-AgBr(350 GeV) or $^{32}$S-AgBr(200 A GeV) data, where both the interaction data are of significantly less energy than the ALICE data. We found that the values of the 3 parameters are substantially different for ALICE data compared to the other two interaction data. As remarkably different value of long-range-correlation indicates phase-transition, similar change in the fluctuation pattern in terms of these parameters can be attributed to a phase-transition and also the onset of QGP.

Detecting tala Computationally in Polyphonic Context - A Novel Approach

In North-Indian-Music-System(NIMS),tabla is mostly used as percussive accompaniment for vocal-music in polyphonic-compositions. The human auditory system uses perceptual grouping of musical-elements and easily filters the tabla component, thereby decoding prominent rhythmic features like tala, tempo from a polyphonic composition. For Western music, lots of work have been reported for automated drum analysis of polyphonic composition. However, attempts at computational analysis of tala by separating the tabla-signal from mixed signal in NIMS have not been successful. Tabla is played with two components - right and left. The right-hand component has frequency overlap with voice and other instruments. So, tala analysis of polyphonic-composition, by accurately separating the tabla-signal from the mixture is a baffling task, therefore an area of challenge. In this work we propose a novel technique for successfully detecting tala using left-tabla signal, producing meaningful results because the left-tabla normally doesn't have frequency overlap with voice and other instruments. North-Indian-rhythm follows complex cyclic pattern, against linear approach of Western-rhythm. We have exploited this cyclic property along with stressed and non-stressed methods of playing tabla-strokes to extract a characteristic pattern from the left-tabla strokes, which, after matching with the grammar of tala-system, determines the tala and tempo of the composition. A large number of polyphonic(vocal+tabla+other-instruments) compositions has been analyzed with the methodology and the result clearly reveals the effectiveness of proposed techniques.

Azimuthal Anisotropy in High Energy Nuclear Collision - An Approach based on Complex Network Analysis

Recently, a complex network based method of Visibility Graph has been applied to confirm the scale-freeness and presence of fractal properties in the process of multiplicity fluctuation. Analysis of data obtained from experiments on hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus interactions results in values of Power-of-Scale-freeness-of-Visibility-Graph-(PSVG) parameter extracted from the visibility graphs. Here, the relativistic nucleus-nucleus interaction data have been analysed to detect azimuthal-anisotropy by extending the Visibility Graph method and extracting the average clustering coefficient, one of the important topological parameters, from the graph. Azimuthal-distributions corresponding to different pseudorapidity-regions around the central-pseudorapidity value are analysed utilising the parameter. Here we attempt to correlate the conventional physical significance of this coefficient with respect to complex-network systems, with some basic notions of particle production phenomenology, like clustering and correlation. Earlier methods for detecting anisotropy in azimuthal distribution, were mostly based on the analysis of statistical fluctuation. In this work, we have attempted to find deterministic information on the anisotropy in azimuthal distribution by means of precise determination of topological parameter from a complex network perspective.

Pion Fluctuation in High Energy Collisions - A Chaos-based Quantitative Estimation with Visibility Graph Technique

We propose a new approach for studying pion fluctuation for deeper understanding of the dynamical process involved, from a perspective of fBm-based complex network analysis method called Visibility graph Analysis. This chaos-based, rigorous, non-linear technique is applied to study the erratic behavior of multipion production in π^{-}-Ag/Br interactions at 350 GeV. This method can offer reliable results with finite data points. The Power of Scale-freeness of Visibility Graph denoted by-PSVG is a measure of fractality, which can be used as a quantitative parameter for the assessment of the state of a chaotic system. The event-wise fluctuation of the multipion production process can be described by this parameter-PSVG. From the analysis of the PSVG parameter, we can quantitatively confirm that fractal behavior of the particle production process depends on the target excitation and also the fractality decreases with the increase of target excitation.

Fluctuation of USA Gold Price - Revisited with Chaos-based Complex Network Method

We give emphasis on the use of chaos-based rigorous nonlinear technique called Visibility Graph Analysis, to study one economic time series - gold price of USA. This method can offer reliable results with fiinite data. This paper reports the result of such an analysis on the times series depicting the fluctuation of gold price of USA for the span of 25 years(1990 - 2013). This analysis reveals that a quantitative parameter from the theory can explain satisfactorily the real life nature of fluctuation of gold price of USA and hence building a strong database in terms of a quantitative parameter which can eventually be used for forecasting purpose.

Study of Void Probability Scaling of Singly Charged Particles Produced in Ultrarelativistic Nuclear Collision in Fractal Scenario

In this paper, we study the fractality of void probability distribution measured in $^{32}$S-Ag/Br interaction at an incident energy of $200$ GeV per nucleon. A radically different and rigorous method called \textit{Visibility Graph} analysis is used. This method is shown to reveal a strong scaling character of void probability distribution in all pseurorapidity regions. The scaling exponent, called the Power of the Scale-freeness in Visibility Graph(PSVG), a quantitative parameter related to Hurst exponent, is strongly found to be dependent on the rapidity window size.
