Phenomenology of DSR-relativistic in-vacuo dispersion in FLRW spacetime

Studies of in-vacuo dispersion are the most active area of quantum-gravity phenomenology. The way in which in-vacuo dispersion produces redshift-dependent corrections to the time of flight of astrophysics particles depends on the model-dependent interplay between Planck-scale effects and spacetime curvature/expansion, and we here derive the most general formula for the leading order redshift-dependent correction to the time of flight for the scenario in which relativistic symmetries are deformed at the Planck scale (DSR) for the constant-curvature case. We find that, contrary to the broken symmetries scenario (LIV), where in principle any arbitrary form of redshift dependence could be allowed, for the DSR scenario only linear combinations of three possible forms of redshift dependence are allowed. We also derive a generalization of our results to the FRW case, and discuss some specific combinations of the three forms of redshift dependence whose investigation might deserve priority from the quantum-gravity perspective.

Group Theoretical Approach to Pseudo-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics with Lorentz Covariance and $c \rightarrow \infty $ Limit

We present in the article the formulation of a version of Lorentz covariant quantum mechanics based on a group theoretical construction from a Heisenberg-Weyl symmetry with position and momentum operators transforming as Minkowski four-vectors under the Lorentz symmetry. The basic representation is identified as a coherent state representation, essentially an irreducible component of the regular representation, with the matching representation of an extension of the group $C^*$-algebra giving the algebra of observables. The key feature of the formulation is that it is not unitary but pseudo-unitary, exactly in the same sense as the Minkowski spacetime representation. The language of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics is adopted for a clear illustration of the aspect, with a metric operator obtained as really the manifestation of the Minkowski metric on the space of the state vectors. Explicit wavefunction description is given without any restriction of the variable domains, yet with a finite integral inner product. The associated covariant harmonic oscillator Fock state basis has all the standard properties in exact analog to those of a harmonic oscillator with Euclidean position and momentum operators of any `dimension'. Galilean limit of the Lorentz symmetry and the classical limit are retrieved rigorously through appropriate symmetry contractions of the algebra and its representation, including the dynamics described through the symmetry of the phase space.

Phenomenology of curvature-induced quantum-gravity effects

Several studies have been devoted to the possibility that quantum gravity might tangibly affect relativistic kinematics for particles propagating from distant astrophysical sources to our telescopes, but the relevant literature has so far focused exclusively on a subclass of scenarios such that the quantum-gravity effects are independent of (macroscopic) curvature. It was assumed that a phenomenology for quantum-gravity effects that are triggered by curvature might be a dead end because of a double suppression: by the smallness of the characteristic quantum-gravity length scale and by the smallness of curvature. This state of affairs is becoming increasingly unsatisfactory in light of some recent quantum-gravity studies providing evidence of the fact that the presence of curvature might be required in order to have the novel relativistic properties. We here analyze an explicit scenario for curvature-induced quantum-gravity effects, and show that the smallness of curvature does not pose a challenge for phenomenology since it is compensated by the large distances traveled by the particles considered in the relevant phenomenological studies. We also observe that the present data situation for particles propagating from distant astrophysical sources to our telescopes, while inconclusive, provides more encouragement for our curvature-induced effects than for the curvature-independent effects that were so far studied.

Analysis on Complete Set of Fock States with Explicit Wavefunctions for the Covariant Harmonic Oscillator Problem

The earlier treatments of Lorentz covariant harmonic oscillator have brought to light various difficulties, such as reconciling Lorentz symmetry with the full Fock space, and divergence issues with their functional representations. We present here a full solution avoiding those problems. The complete set of Fock states is obtained, together with the corresponding explicit wavefunction and their inner product integrals free from any divergence problem and the Lorentz symmetry fully maintained without additional constraints imposed. By a simple choice of the pseudo-unitary representation of the underlying symmetry group, motivated from the perspective of the Minkowski spacetime as a representation for the Lorentz group, we obtain the natural non-unitary Fock space picture commonly considered though not formulated and presented in the careful details given here. From a direct derivation of the appropriate basis state wavefunctions of the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Lorentz symmetry, the relation between the latter and the Fock state wavefunctions is also explicitly shown. Moreover, the full picture including the states with non-positive norm may give consistent physics picture as a version of Lorentz covariant quantum mechanics. Probability interpretation for the usual von Neumann measurements is not a problem as all wavefunctions restricted to a definite value for the `time' variable are just like those of the usual time independent quantum mechanics. A further understanding from a perspective of the dynamics from the symplectic geometry of the phase space is shortly discussed.

Covariant Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Spacetime

We present in the article the formulation of a version of Lorentz covariant quantum mechanics based on a group theoretical construction from a Heisenberg-Weyl symmetry with position and momentum operators transforming as Minkowski four-vectors under the Lorentz symmetry. The basic representation is identified as a coherent state representation, essentially an irreducible component of the regular representation, with the matching representation of an extension of the group $C^*$-algebra giving the algebra of observables. Galilean limit of the Lorentz symmetry and the classical limit of the Lorentz covariant framework are retrieved rigorously through appropriate symmetry contractions of the algebra and its representation, including the dynamics described through the symmetry of the phase space, given both in terms of real/complex number coordinates and noncommutative operator coordinates. The latter gives an explicit picture of the (projective) Hilbert space as a quantum/noncommutative spacetime.

Probability of inflation in Loop Quantum Cosmology

We discuss how initial conditions for cosmological evolution can be defined in Loop Quantum Cosmology with massive scalar field and how the presence of the bounce influences the probability of inflation in this theory, compared with General Relativity. The main finding of the paper is existence of an attractor in the contracting phase of the universe, which results in special conditions at the bounce, quite independent on the measure of initial conditions in the remote past, and hence very specific duration of inflationary stage with the number of e-foldings about $140$.
