Chiral loop corrections in B to D l nu decays

We determine chiral loop corrections to the B meson decay amplitudes to positive and negative parity charmed mesons within a framework which combines heavy quark and chiral symmetries. We find that corrections due to states of opposite parity are competitive with the contributions arising from K and eta meson loops. Since lattice studies rely on the chiral behavior of the amplitudes we discuss the chiral limit of our results. We also comment on the extraction of 1/m_B, 1/m_D subleading form factors relevant for the studies of B_q to D_q tau nu decays, which are sensitive to possible helicity-suppressed new physics contributions.

Chiral corrections to the scalar form factor in B_q to D_q transitions

We consider chiral loop corrections to the scalar form factor in B_q to D_q l nu decays. First we consider chiral corrections to the 1/m_Q suppressed operators and then we propose the procedure for the extraction of the relevant form factor using lattice QCD results. In the case of B_s to D_s l nu decay we find that effects of kinematics and chiral corrections tend to cancel for the scalar form factor contributions. In particular the 1/m_Q suppression of chiral corrections is compensated by the SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking corrections which can be as large as 30%. The calculated corrections are relevant for the precise determination of possible new physics effects in B_q to D_q l nu decays.

On the Dalitz plot analysis of the B --> K eta gamma decays

Recently B-factories have published new results on the $B \to K ηγ$ decays being inspired by the theoretical suggestion to search for new physics in $B \to P_1 P_2 γ$ decays. Using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory we find mechanism which governs the amplitude in parts of the Dalitz plot where either $K$ or $η$ mesons are soft. The dominant contributions in these cases are coming from the nonresonant decay modes. We discuss also $B \to K η' γ$ Dalitz plot. Our partially integrated rates are in agreement with the experimental findings.

On the matrix elements of dB=0 operators in the heavy meson decay widths

We determine the chiral corrections to the matrix elements of the Delta B=0 four-quark operators which are relevant to the studies of the ratios of lifetimes of heavy-light mesons as well as to the power corrections to the inclusive semileptonic heavy-to-light decays. The chiral logarithmic corrections computed here can be combined with the forthcoming estimates of the corresponding matrix elements on the lattice to provide the reliable physics result of the well known bag-parameters B_(1,2) and epsilon_(1,2).

On the flavor structure of the littlest Higgs model

We investigate the Yukawa sector for up-like quarks in the Lee's version of the Littlest Higgs model. We derive general quark mass and mixing formulae and study leading order contributions due to non-zero light quark masses. Relying on the unitarity of the generalized quark mixing matrix we obtain corrections to the CKM matrix elements. In this model FCNCs appear at the tree level and using leading order contributions we obtain the FCNC couplings for the up-like quark transitions. In light of recent experimental results on the D0 - D0bar transition we make predictions for xD as well as the D to mu+ mu- decay rate. Finally, we discuss probabilities for the t to c (u) Z transitions relevant for the LHC studies.

Use and misuse of ChPT in the heavy-light systems

We discuss the range of validity of ChPT when applied to the systems of heavy-light mesons. Having in mind the recent experimental evidence according to which the heavy-light scalar and axial states are closer to the ground states than anticipated, we revisited the prediction for the chiral behavior of the B-Bbar mixing amplitude and examined the impact of nearness of the positive parity states. We conclude that the standard ChPT expressions with Nf=3 light flavours are not useful in guiding the extrapolation of hadronic quantities computed on the lattice. Instead those derived in HMChPT with Nf=2, i.e., including only the pion loops, are still adequate as long as they are applied to the pions lighter than 350 MeV, or the quarks lighter than a third of the physical strange quark mass.

Updated constraints on new physics in rare charm decays

Motivated by recent experimental results on charm physics we investigate implications of the updated constraints of new physics in rare charm meson decays. We first reconsider effects of the MSSM in $c\to u γ$ constrained by the recent experimental evidence on $Δm_D$ and find, that due to the dominance of long distance physics, $D \to V γ$ decay rates cannot be modified by MSSM contributions. Then we consider effects of the extra heavy up vector-like quark models on the decay spectrum of $D^+ \to π^+ l^+ l^-$ and $D_s^+ \to K^+ l^+ l^-$ decays. We find a possibility for the tiny increase of the differential decay rate in the region of large dilepton mass. The R-parity violating supersymmetric model can also modify short distance dynamics in $c \to u l^+ l^-$ decays. We constrain relevant parameters using current upper bound on the $D^+ \to π^+ l^+ l^-$ decay rate and investigate impact of that constraint on the $D_s^+ \to K^+ l^+ l^-$ differential decay dilepton distribution. Present bounds still allow small modification of the standard model differential decay rate distribution.

Chiral behavior of the B(s,d)-Bbar(s,d) mixing amplitude in the Standard Model and beyond

We compute the chiral logarithmic corrections to the Bd and Bs mixing amplitudes in the Standard Model and beyond. We then investigate the impact of the inclusion of the lowest-lying scalar heavy-light states to the decay constants and bag-parameters and show that this does not modify the pion chiral logarithms, but it does produce corrections which are competitive in size with the K- and eta-meson chiral logarithms. This conclusion is highly relevant to the lattice studies since the pion chiral logarithms represent the most important effect in guiding the chiral extrapolations of the lattice data for these quantities. Also important is to stress that the pion chiral logarithmic corrections are useful in guiding those extrapolations as long as Mpi << Delta, where Delta is the mass gap between the scalar and pseudoscalar heavy-light mesons.

Chiral loop corrections to weak decays of B mesons to positive and negative parity charmed mesons

We determine chiral loop corrections to the B meson decay amplitudes to positive and negative parity charmed mesons within a framework which combines heavy quark and chiral symmetries. Then we investigate the impact of the lowest-lying positive parity heavy mesons on the determination of the Isgur-Wise functions. The corrections due to these states are competitive with the contributions arising from K and eta meson loops. Since lattice studies rely on the chiral behavior of the amplitudes we discuss the chiral limit of our results. We find that the determination of the slope at zero recoil of the Isgur-Wise function xi for the B transition to negative parity charm mesons is moderately affected by the inclusion of new states, while the slope of tau_{1/2} is affected significantly more.

D Physics

Recently a lot of new experimental results on open charm hadrons have appeared. In particular many D meson resonances have been discovered. We discuss strong decays of positive and negative parity charmed mesons within heavy meson chiral perturbation theory and study the impact of excited charm states on the determination of the effective meson couplings. Motivated by recent experimental results we also reconsider semileptonic D to P l nu and D to V l nu decays within a model which combines heavy quark symmetry and properties of the chiral Lagrangian. Using limits of soft collinear effective theory and heavy quark effective theory we parametrize the semileptonic form factors. We include excited charm meson states in our Lagrangians and determine their impact on the charm meson semileptonic form factors. In some scenarios of new physics an up-like heavy quark appears, which induces FCNC at tree level for the c to u Z transitions. We investigate FCNC effects in D rare decays in particular the c to u l+ l- transition which might occur in D+ to pi+ l+ l- and D0 to rho0 l+ l-.

Chiral loop corrections to strong decays of positive and negative parity charmed mesons

We consider chiral loop corrections to the effective couplings which describe the strong interactions of two heavy mesons of even or odd parities and a light pseudoscalar meson, within a framework which combines heavy quark effective theory and chiral perturbation theory. The strong couplings are extracted from the experimental results for the decay widths, after including chiral corrections. We find that the introduction of positive parity heavy meson fields into the framework gives relevant contributions to the chiral loop corrections of the effective couplings. The counterterms' contributions are studied by making a randomized fit distribution of the relevant couplings at mu = 1 GeV. Then we discuss the chiral extrapolation based on calculated loop contributions. The inclusion of positive parity mesons in the chiral loops is found to be important for the lattice QCD studies of charm meson properties, where the knowledge of chiral limit behavior is required.

Search for New Physics in Rare D Decays

In many extensions of the standard model an additional up-like heavy quark appears. Its appearance induces flavour changing neutral current transition in the up-quark region at the tree level. We investigate possible effects of these models in the c->u l+ l- transitions. First we determine impact of new physics on the relevant Wilson coefficients and then we reevaluate the standard model long-distance contributions. We calculate differential branching ratio for the D+ -> pi+ l+ l- and D0 -> rho0 l+ l- decays. Among all D decay modes these two are the simplest ones for the experimental studies. We also determine the forward-backward asymmetry for the D0 -> rho0 l+ l- decay and we comment on the effects of the Littlest Higgs model in both decay modes.

b to d d s bar transition and constraints on new physics in B^- decays

The b to d d s bar transition gives extremely small branching ratios within the standard model, thus providing an appropriate ground for testing new physics. Using renormalization group technique we determine the Wilson coefficients and the mixing of the operators which contribute to the b to d d s bar transition. We consider contributions to this decay mode from the supersymmetric standard model with and without R-parity, as well as from a model with an additional neutral Z' gauge boson. Using Belle and BaBar upper bounds for the B^- to pi^- pi^- K^+ branching ratio we constrain contributions of these new physics scenarios. Then we calculate branching ratios for two- and three-body nonleptonic B^- meson decays driven by the b to d d s transition, which might be experimentally accessible.

Effects of Littlest Higgs model in rare D meson decays

A tree-level flavor changing neutral current in the up-like quark sector appears in one of the variations of the Littlest Higgs model. We investigate the effects of this coupling in the D+ -> pi+ l+ l- and D0 -> rho0 l+ l- decays, which are the most appropriate candidates for the experimental studies. However, the effects are found to be too small to be observed in the current and the foreseen experimental facilities. These decays are still dominated by the standard model long-distance contributions, which are reevaluated based on the new experimental input.

Note on helicity amplitudes in D to V semileptonic decays

Motivated by the recent extraction of the helicity amplitudes for the D+ -> K*0bar mu+ nu decay, done by the FOCUS collaboration, we determine helicity amplitudes for the D+ -> K*0bar l nu, D+ -> rho0 l nu and Ds -> phi l nu semileptonic decays using the knowledge of the relevant form factors. The vector and axial form factors for D -> V l nu decays are parameterized by including contributions of charm meson resonances and using the HQET and SCET limits. In the case that the vector form factor receives contributions from two poles while axial form factors are dominated by a single pole for D+ -> K*0bar l nu, we obtain better agreement with the experimental result then when all of them are dominated by single poles.

Using limits of soft collinear effective theory and heavy quark effective theory we parametrize the semileptonic form factors. We include excited charm meson states in our Lagrangians and determine their impact on the charm meson semileptonic form factors. Then we calculate branching ratios for all D to P l nu_l and D to V l nu_l decays.

Charmless Final State Interaction in B-> pi pi decays

We estimate effects of the final state interactions in B -> pi pi decays coming from rescattering of pi pi via exchange of rho, sigma, f_0 mesons. Then we include the rho rho rescattering via exchange of pi, omega, a_1 mesons and finally we consider contributions of the a_1 pi rescattering via exchange of rho. The absorptive parts of amplitudes for these processes are determined. In the case of pi^+ pi^- decay mode, due to model uncertainties, the calculated contribution is |M_A| =< 1.7 x 10^-8 GeV. This produces a small relative strong phase for the tree and color-suppressed B -> pi pi amplitudes consistent with the result of a recent phenomenological analysis based on the BaBar and Belle results for the B -> pi pi branching ratios and CP asymmetries.

Charm meson resonances and D to V semileptonic form factors

Using limits of large energy effective theory and heavy quark effective theory we propose a simple parametrization of the heavy to light H to V semileptonic form factors. Then we reconsider D to V l nu_l decays within a model which combines heavy meson and chiral symmetry. In our Lagrangians we include contributions coming from excited charm meson states, some of them recently observed. Within this framework we determine all parameters describing the shapes of the form factors and calculate branching ratios and helicity ratios for all D to V l nu_l decays.
