Stress testing of fast reconstruction pipelines using machine learning

The fast reconstruction and detector-simulation pipelines are widely used in different scientific domains, such as, in High Energy Physics (HEP) and medical imaging, where the full experimental or the device-level simulation is computationally challenging. Instead of the use of the global data context, these pipelines use simplified response models which assume reconstruction uncertainty relies on local input parameters. To probe the robustness of the local assumption, a domain-agnostic context-aware stress testing pipeline is introduced, and a reconstruction response depending on the global parameters is also allowed. For an instance in HEP at High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) simulation, this work shows that the decay channel $Z \rightarrow \ell\ell$, as a benchmark, violates the local assumption resulting in a significant reconstruction bias and resolution degradation. Using the unsupervised regime-mapping framework, this work also restores this peak stability and recovers the truth-level resolution, where a robust diagnostic tool for next-generation fast simulation pipelines is accommodated.

Fermionic decay of light charged pseudoscalar in Georgi Machacek model

The Georgi Machacek (GM) model is a triplet extension of the scalar sector of the Standard Model (SM) containing charged and neutral scalars and pseudoscalars with alluring phenomenology. The CMS and ATLAS collaborations of the LHC at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV already searched for various decays of the charged Higgs boson in low as well as high mass region. The low mass charged Higgs are produced by the decay of top quarks or antiquarks. $H^{\pm}\rightarrow \tau\nu,\, cs$ are the main fermionic decay channels of light charged scalars or pseudoscalars. For low mass region of the charged pseudoscalars, the triplet vev is restricted from above from the indirect search coming from the $b\rightarrow s \gamma$ decay. Here, I consider the observed data from the ATLAS and CMS both for the light charged Higgs decaying into $cs$ and $\tau\nu$. The ATLAS data observed for $H^{\pm}\rightarrow \tau\nu$ offers a more stringent bound on $v_2$ for GM model pseudoscalar mass below $160$ GeV.

Model Independent Effective Dimension Six Operators And Scattering Unitarity

The effective field theory containing higher dimensional operators violates the unitarity of the $2 \rightarrow 2$ scattering processes in the Standard Model. This unitarity violation depends on the values of the Wilson coefficients corresponding to a higher dimensional operator. We showed that even a small values of some of the Wilson coefficients lead to the unitarity violation at the LHC centre of mass energies. Considering the final states as the gauge bosons in the longitudinal mode, the scalars, and the $t\overline{t}$, we showed that the unitarity violation in $WW \rightarrow WW$, $WW \rightarrow ZZ$, and $ZZ \rightarrow hh$ scattering amplitudes sets bounds on the Wilson coefficients of the dimension six effective operators.

Light Higgs in the Georgi Machacek Model: neutral or charged?

The ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC, as well as the LEP and Tevatron, observed the existence of a light SM-like Higgs boson with mass about 95 GeV. These experiments also record the evidences of a light charged Higgs boson with mass less than the top-quark mass. The Georgi-Machacek (GM) model consists of six charged Higgs, one CP-odd and one CP-even Higgs besides the SM Higgs and the SM-like Higgs bosons. Considering the theoretical constraints along with the $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV Higgs signal strengths, this paper shows that the presence of the 95 GeV SM-like Higgs boson disfavours the presence of the other eight low-mass (below $160$ GeV) Higgs. This also triggers a high triplet vev above $40$ GeV.

Updated constraints on triplet vev in the Georgi Machacek model

The Georgi-Machacek model containing singly as well as doubly charged Higgs bosons besides more than one neutral Higgs bosons preserves the custodial symmetry at the tree level. In addition to the doublet vacuum expectation value (vev) $v_1$ this model has one triplet vev $v_2$, which was most strongly bounded from the above as a function of the custodial triplet mass $m_3$ previously by the $b \rightarrow s \gamma$ data. The observed data from the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC for $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV for the channels $p p \rightarrow t \bar{t}$, $t \rightarrow H^+ b$, $H^+ \rightarrow c\bar{s}$, $\tau^+ \nu_{\tau}$ for the low mass charged Higgs set new limits on the triplet vev as a function of light charged Higgs boson afterward. Subsequent ATLAS data for the decay $H^{\pm} \rightarrow \tau^{\pm} \nu_{\tau}$ updates the limit on $v_2$ from the above as a function of $m_3$. The present above limits on $v_2$ is now updated to $6.3 - 13.1$ GeV from the previous value of $7.8 - 17.4$ GeV for the light custodial triplet mass $m_3$ ranging from $130$ to $160$ GeV.

Charged Higgs decay to $W^{\pm}$ and heavy neutral Higgs decaying into $\tau^+\tau^-$ in Georgi Machacek Model at LHC

The CMS collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) searched for a charged Higgs boson, in the mass range of 300 to 700 GeV, decaying into a $W^{\pm}$ boson and a heavy neutral Higgs boson of mass $200$ GeV, which successively decays into a pair of tau leptons, in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. In this letter, focusing on the Georgi-Machacek (GM) model, I discuss the parameter space, allowed by the theoretical and experimental constraints, for which the limits on this process obtained by the CMS can be accommodated. The study in this letter also shows that, for the choice of the parameters, the decay of the charged Higgs boson $H_3^{\pm}$ to $W^{\pm}$ and a heavy neutral Higgs boson H is preferred over the decay to any gauge boson and any other neutral or charged Higgs bosons. I also present the values of production cross-section times branching ratio for the decay of H to a pair of b-quarks at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV.

Fermionic decay of charged Higgs boson in low mass region in Georgi Machacek Model

At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), ATLAS and CMS collaborations observed various decay modes of the light charged Higgs bosons produced by top (anti)quark decays. In this paper, we are interested in the subsequent decay of the light charged Higgs boson into a charm and a strange quark-antiquark pair and into a tau and a tau-neutrino pair, separately, in the context of the Georgi-Machacek model, which offers a large triplet vacuum expectation value (vev) preserving custodial symmetry. We show that these experimental observations constrain the triplet vev from above. We explore the model parameter space consistent with the theoretical constraints, the latest Higgs data and the experimental data for light charged Higgs decaying to $cs$ and $\tau\nu_{\tau}$.

Oblique parameters of BSM models with three CP-even neutral scalars

We express the oblique parameters $S$, $T$, $U$, $V$, $W$, and $X$ in terms of the corresponding mixing matrices in the framework of three BSM models with three CP-even neutral scalars. We consider three types of the extension of the scalar sector of the SM with non-standard (i) two real singlet scalars, (ii) one complex doublet and one real singlet scalar, and (iii) two complex doublets. We present the expressions such that one can use these when all the neutral CP-even scalars have VEV, or one of them does not have any VEV. The principal benifit of presenting the oblique parameters in this way is, the sole knowledge of the mixing matrices in the corresponding scalar sector is enough to extract the expression of the oblique parameter of that particular BSM model. This paper also presents some plots, for reference, showing the allowed region of the masses of the three CP-even neutral scalars and the three mixing angles of the three above-mentioned models.

Charged Higgs searches in the Georgi-Machacek model at the LHC

The Georgi-Machacek Model allows for a large triplet vacuum expectation value (vev) with a custodial symmetric scalar potential. This manifestly leads to large charged Higgs coupling to SM fermions thus enhancing the detection probability of the model at the Large hadron collider. We show that the latest bound from LHC searches on singly charged Higgs scalar decaying to top and bottom quark restricts the triplet vev from above. We demonstrate that the combined limit from theoretical constraints and the latest Higgs data together with this charged Higgs bound can already curb the model parameter space significantly. Further, we propose the charged Higgs decaying to $W^{\pm}$ boson and a SM-like Higgs as a prospective channel to probe the yet unbounded model parameter space at the future run of the LHC. A simple cut-based analysis for this channel has been made showing the parameter region that can be probed with $5σ$ significance at the high luminosity LHC run.

Scattering unitarity with effective dimension-6 operators

The effects of physics beyond the Standard Model may be parametrized by a set of higher-dimensional operators leading to an effective theory. The introduction of these operators makes the theory nonrenormalizable, and one may reasonably expect a violation of unitarity in $2\to 2$ scattering processes, depending on the values of the Wilson coefficients of the higher dimensional operators. Bounds on these coefficients may be obtained from demanding that there be no such unitarity violation below the scale of the effective theory. We show, at the lowest level, how the new operators affect the scattering amplitudes with longitudinal gauge bosons, scalars, and $t\bar{t}$ in the final state, and find that one may expect a violation of unitarity even at the LHC energies with small values of some of the new Wilson coefficients. For most of the others, such a violation needs large coefficients, indicating nonperturbative physics for the ultraviolet-complete theory, although a proper treatment necessitates the inclusion of even higher-dimensional operators. However, deviations from the Standard Model expectations may be observed with even smaller values for these coefficients. We find that $WW \to WW$, $WW\to ZZ$, and $ZZ\to hh$ scatterings are the best possible channels to probe unitarity violations.

Potential of a singlet scalar enhanced Standard Model

We investigate the parameter space of the Standard Model enhanced by a gauge singlet real scalar $S$. Taking into account all the theoretical and experimental constraints, we show the allowed parameter space for two different types of such singlet-enhanced Standard Model. For the first case, the scalar potential has an explicit $Z_2$-symmetry, and may lead to a dark matter candidate under certain conditions. For the second case, the scalar potential does not respect any $Z_2$. This is again divided into two subcategories: one where the Standard Model vacuum is stable, and one where it is unstable and can decay into a deeper minimum. We show how the parameters in the scalar potential control the range of validity of all these models. Finally, we show the effect of one-loop correction on the positions and depths of the minima of the potential.
