On four-point connectivities in the critical 2d Potts model

We perform Monte-Carlo computations of four-point cluster connectivities in the critical 2d Potts model, for numbers of states $Q\in (0,4)$ that are not necessarily integer. We compare these connectivities to four-point functions in a CFT that interpolates between D-series minimal models. We find that 3 combinations of the 4 independent connectivities agree with CFT four-point functions, down to the $2$ to $4$ significant digits of our Monte-Carlo computations. However, we argue that the agreement is exact only in the special cases $Q=0, 3, 4$. We conjecture that the Potts model can be analytically continued to a double cover of the half-plane $\{\Re c <13\}$, where $c$ is the central charge of the Virasoro symmetry algebra.

On 2d CFTs that interpolate between minimal models

We investigate exactly solvable two-dimensional conformal field theories that exist at generic values of the central charge, and that interpolate between A-series or D-series minimal models. When the central charge becomes rational, correlation functions of these CFTs may tend to correlation functions of minimal models, or diverge, or have finite limits which can be logarithmic. These results are based on analytic relations between four-point structure constants and residues of conformal blocks.

Minimal lectures on two-dimensional conformal field theory

We provide a brief but self-contained review of two-dimensional conformal field theory, from the basic principles to some of the simplest models. From the representations of the Virasoro algebra on the one hand, and the state-field correspondence on the other hand, we deduce Ward identities and Belavin--Polyakov--Zamolodchikov equations for correlation functions. We then explain the principles of the conformal bootstrap method, and introduce conformal blocks. This allows us to define and solve minimal models and Liouville theory. In particular, we study their three- and four-point functions, and discuss their existence and uniqueness. In appendices, we introduce the free boson theory (with an arbitrary central charge), and the modular bootstrap in minimal models.

Liouville theory with a central charge less than one

We determine the spectrum and correlation functions of Liouville theory with a central charge less than (or equal) one. This completes the definition of Liouville theory for all complex values of the central charge. The spectrum is always spacelike, and there is no consistent timelike Liouville theory. We also study the non-analytic conformal field theories that exist at rational values of the central charge. Our claims are supported by numerical checks of crossing symmetry. We provide Python code for computing Virasoro conformal blocks, and correlation functions in Liouville theory and (generalized) minimal models.

The geometry of Casimir W-algebras

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simply laced Lie algebra, $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}_1$ the corresponding affine Lie algebra at level one, and $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$ the corresponding Casimir W-algebra. We consider $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$-symmetric conformal field theory on the Riemann sphere. To a number of $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$-primary fields, we associate a Fuchsian differential system. We compute correlation functions of $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}_1$-currents in terms of solutions of that system, and construct the bundle where these objects live. We argue that cycles on that bundle correspond to parameters of the conformal blocks of the W-algebra, equivalently to moduli of the Fuchsian system.

The analytic bootstrap equations of non-diagonal two-dimensional CFT

Under the assumption that degenerate fields exist, diagonal CFTs such as Liouville theory can be solved analytically using the conformal bootstrap method. Here we generalize this approach to non-diagonal CFTs, i.e. CFTs whose primary fields have nonzero conformal spins. Assuming generic values of the central charge, we find that the non-diagonal sector of the spectrum must be parametrized by two integer numbers. We then derive and solve the equations that determine how three- and four-point structure constants depend on these numbers. In order to test these results, we numerically check crossing symmetry of a class of four-point functions in a non-rational limit of D-series minimal models. The simplest four-point functions in this class were previously argued to describe connectivities of clusters in the critical Potts model.

A conformal bootstrap approach to critical percolation in two dimensions

We study four-point functions of critical percolation in two dimensions, and more generally of the Potts model. We propose an exact ansatz for the spectrum: an infinite, discrete and non-diagonal combination of representations of the Virasoro algebra. Based on this ansatz, we compute four-point functions using a numerical conformal bootstrap approach. The results agree with Monte-Carlo computations of connectivities of random clusters.

Lax matrix solution of c=1 Conformal Field Theory

To a correlation function in a two-dimensional conformal field theory with the central charge $c=1$, we associate a matrix differential equation $Ψ' = L Ψ$, where the Lax matrix $L$ is a matrix square root of the energy-momentum tensor. Then local conformal symmetry implies that the differential equation is isomonodromic. This provides a justification for the recently observed relation between four-point conformal blocks and solutions of the Painlevé VI equation. This also provides a direct way to compute the three-point function of Runkel-Watts theory -- the common $c\rightarrow 1$ limit of Minimal Models and Liouville theory.

Seiberg-Witten equations and non-commutative spectral curves in Liouville theory

We propose that there exist generalized Seiberg-Witten equations in the Liouville conformal field theory, which allow the computation of correlation functions from the resolution of certain Ward identities. These identities involve a multivalued spin one chiral field, which is built from the stress-energy tensor. We solve the Ward identities perturbatively in an expansion around the heavy asymptotic limit, and check that the first two terms of the Liouville three-point function agree with the known result of Dorn, Otto, Zamolodchikov and Zamolodchikov. We argue that such calculations can be interpreted in terms of the geometry of non-commutative spectral curves.

The large central charge limit of conformal blocks

We study conformal blocks of conformal field theories with a W3 symmetry algebra in the limit where the central charge is large. In this limit, we compute the four-point block as a special case of an sl3-invariant function. In the case when two of the four fields are semi-degenerate, we check that our results agree with the block's combinatorial expansion as a sum over Young diagrams. We also show that such a block obeys a sixth-order differential equation, and that it has an unexpected singularity at z=-1, in addition to the expected singularities at z=0,1,infinity.

Conformal Toda theory with a boundary

We investigate sl(n) conformal Toda theory with maximally symmetric boundaries. There are two types of maximally symmetric boundary conditions, due to the existence of an order two automorphism of the W(n>2) algebra. In one of the two cases, we find that there exist D-branes of all possible dimensions 0 =< d =< n-1, which correspond to partly degenerate representations of the W(n) algebra. We perform classical and conformal bootstrap analyses of such D-branes, and relate these two approaches by using the semi-classical light asymptotic limit. In particular we determine the bulk one-point functions. We observe remarkably severe divergences in the annulus partition functions, and attribute their origin to the existence of infinite multiplicities in the fusion of representations of the W(n>2) algebra. We also comment on the issue of the existence of a boundary action, using the calculus of constrained functional forms, and derive the generating function of the B"acklund transformation for sl(3) Toda classical mechanics, using the minisuperspace limit of the bulk one-point function.

Minisuperspace limit of the AdS3 WZNW model

We derive the three-point function of the AdS3 WZNW model in the minisuperspace limit by Wick rotation from the H3+ model. The result is expressed in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of the Lie algebra sl(2,R). We also introduce a covariant basis of functions on AdS3, which can be interpreted as bulk-boundary propagators.

On sl3 Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations and W3 null-vector equations

Starting from Sklyanin's separation of variables for the sl3 Yangian model, we derive the separation of variables for the quantum sl3 Gaudin model. We use the resulting new variables for rewriting the sl3 Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations, and comparing them with certain null-vector equations in conformal field theories with W3-algebra symmetry. The two sets of equations are remarkably similar, but become identical only in the critical level limit. This is in contrast to the sl2 Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations, which are known to be equivalent to Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov equations for all values of the level.

A family of solvable non-rational conformal field theories

We find non-rational conformal field theories in two dimensions, which are solvable due to their correlators being related to correlators of Liouville theory. Their symmetry algebra consists of the dimension-two stress-energy tensor, and two dimension-one fields. The theories come in a family with two parameters: the central charge c and a complex number m. The special case m=0 corresponds to Liouville theory (plus two free bosons), and m=1 corresponds to the H3+ model. In the case m=2 we show that the correlators obey third-order differential equations, which are associated to a subsingular vector of the symmetry algebra.

Boundary three-point function on AdS2 D-branes

Using the H3+-Liouville relation, I explicitly compute the boundary three-point function on AdS2 D-branes in H3+, and check that it exhibits the expected symmetry properties and has the correct geometrical limit. I then find a simple relation between this boundary three-point function and certain fusing matrix elements, which suggests a formal correspondence between the AdS2 D-branes and discrete representations of the symmetry group. Concluding speculations deal with the fuzzy geometry of AdS2 D-branes, strings in the Minkowskian AdS3, and the hypothetical existence of new D-branes in H3+.

Solution of the H3+ model on a disc

We determine all the correlators of the H3+ model on a disc with AdS2-brane boundary conditions in terms of correlators of Liouville theory on a disc with FZZT-brane boundary conditions. We argue that the Cardy-Lewellen constraints are weaker in the H3+ model than in rational conformal field theories due to extra singularities of the correlators, but strong enough to uniquely determine the bulk two-point function on a disc. We confirm our results by detailed analyses of the bulk-boundary two-point function and of the boundary two-point function. In particular we find that, although the target space symmetry preserved by AdS2-branes is the group SL(2,R), the open string states between two distinct parallel AdS2-branes belong to representations of the universal covering group.

Discrete D-branes in AdS3 and in the 2d black hole

I show how the AdS2 D-branes in the Euclidean AdS3 string theory are related to the continuous D-branes in Liouville theory. I then propose new discrete D-branes in the Euclidean AdS3 which correspond to the discrete D-branes in Liouville theory. These new D-branes satisfy the appropriate shift equations. They give rise to two families of discrete D-branes in the 2d black hole, which preserve different symmetries.

Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations and spectral flow in AdS3 string theory

I generalize the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations to correlators of spectral flowed fields in AdS3 string theory. If spectral flow is preserved or violated by one unit, the resulting equations are equivalent to the KZ equations. If spectral flow is violated by two units or more, only some linear combinations of the KZ equations hold, but extra equations appear. Then I explicitly show how these correlators and the associated conformal blocks are related to Liouville theory correlators and conformal blocks with degenerate field insertions, where each unit of spectral flow violation removes one degenerate field. A similar relation to Liouville theory holds for noncompact parafermions.
