Automated Calculation Scheme for alpha^n Contributions of QED to Lepton g-2: New Treatment of Infrared Divergence for Diagrams without Lepton Loops

We have developed an efficient algorithm for the subtraction of infrared divergences that arise in the evaluation of QED corrections to the anomalous magnetic moment of lepton (g-2). By incorporating this new algorithm, we have extended the automated code-generating system developed previously to deal with diagrams without internal lepton loops (called q-type), which produced convergent integrals when applied to diagrams that have only ultraviolet-divergent subdiagrams of vertex type. The new system produces finite integrals for all q-type diagrams, including those that contain self-energy subdiagrams and thus exhibit infrared-divergent behavior. We have thus far verified the system for the sixth- and eighth-order cases. We are now evaluating 6354 vertex diagrams of q-type that contribute to the tenth-order lepton g-2.

Revised value of the eighth-order electron g-2

The contribution to the eighth-order anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) of the electron from a set of diagrams without closed lepton loops is recalculated using a new FORTRAN code generated by an automatic code generator. Comparing the contributions of individual diagrams of old and new calculations, we found an inconsistency in the old treatment of infrared subtraction terms in two diagrams. Correcting this error leads to the revised value -1.9144 (35) (alpha/pi)^4 for the eighth-order term. This theoretical change induces the shift of the inverse of the fine structure constant by -6.41180(73)x10^{-7}.

Improved Perturbation Method and its Application to the IIB Matrix Model

We present a new scheme for extracting approximate values in ``the improved perturbation method'', which is a sort of resummation technique capable of evaluating a series outside the radius of convergence. We employ the distribution profile of the series that is weighted by nth-order derivatives with respect to the artificially introduced parameters. By those weightings the distribution becomes more sensitive to the ``plateau'' structure in which the consistency condition of the method is satisfied. The scheme works effectively even in such cases that the system involves many parameters. We also propose that this scheme has to be applied to each observables separately and be analyzed comprehensively. We apply this scheme to the analysis of the IIB matrix model by the improved perturbation method obtained up to eighth order of perturbation in the former works. We consider here the possibility of spontaneous breakdown of Lorentz symmetry, and evaluate the free energy and the anisotropy of space-time extent. In the present analysis, we find an SO(10)-symmetric vacuum besides the SO(4)- and SO(7)-symmetric vacua that have been observed. It is also found that there are two distinct SO(4)-symmetric vacua that have almost the same value of free energy but the extent of space-time is different. From the approximate values of free energy, we conclude that the SO(4)-symmetric vacua are most preferred among those three types of vacua.

Induced Chern-Simons term of a paired electron state in the quantum Hall system

The induced Chern-Simons term for a paired electron state is calculated in the quantum Hall system by using a field theory on the von Neumann lattice. The coefficient of the Chern-Simons term, which is the Hall conductance, has not only the usual term proportional to a filling factor due to P (parity) & T (time reversal) symmetry breaking but also correction terms due to P & T & U(1) symmetry breaking. The correction term essentially comes from the Nambu-Goldstone mode and depends on an infrared limit. It is shown that the correction term is related to a topological number of a gap function in the momentum space.

Dynamical Generation of Non-Abelian Gauge Group via the Improved Perturbation Theory

It was suggested that the massive Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons matrix model has three phases and that in one of them a non-Abelian gauge symmetry is dynamically generated. The analysis was at the one-loop level around a classical solution of fuzzy sphere type. We obtain evidences that three phases are indeed realized as nonperturbative vacua by using the improved perturbation theory. It also gives a good example that even if we start from a trivial vacuum, the improved perturbation theory around it enables us to observe nontrivial vacua.

Improved Taylor Expansion method in the Ising model

We apply an improved Taylor expansion method, which is a variational scheme to the Ising model in two dimensions. This method enables us to evaluate the free energy and magnetization in strong coupling regions from the weak coupling expansion, even in the case of a phase transition. We determine the approximate value of the transition point using this scheme. In the presence of an external magnetic field, we find both stable and metastable physical states.

Higher Order Terms of Improved Mean Field Approximation for IIB Matrix Model and Emergence of Four-dimensional Space-time

The spontaneous breakdown of SO(10) symmetry of the IIB matrix model has been studied by using the improved mean field approximation (IMFA). In this report, the eighth-order contribution to the improved perturbative series is obtained, which involves evaluation of 20410 planar two-particle irreducible vacuum diagrams. We consider SO(d)-preserving configurations as ansatz (d=4,7). The development of plateau, the solution of self-consistency condition, is seen in both ansatz. The large ratio of the space-time extent of d-dimensional part against the remaining (10-d)-dimensional part is obtained for SO(4) ansatz evaluated at the representative points of the plateau. It would be interpreted as the emergence of four-dimensional space-time in the IIB matrix model.

Stability of 4-dimensional Space-time from IIB Matrix Model via Improved Mean Field Approximation

The origin of our four-dimensional space-time has been pursued through the dynamical aspects of the IIB matrix model via the improved mean field approximation. Former works have been focused on the specific choice of configurations as ansatz which preserve SO(d) rotational symmetry. In this report, an extended ansatz is proposed and examined up to 3rd order of approximation which includes both SO(4) ansatz and SO(7) ansatz in their respective limits. From the solutions of self-consistency condition represented by the extrema of free energy of the system, it is found that a part of solutions found in SO(4) or SO(7) ansatz disappear in the extended ansatz. It implies that the extension of ansatz works as a device to distinguish the stable solutions from the unstable ones. It is also found that there is a non-trivial accumulation of extrema including the SO(4)-preserving solution, which may lead to the formation of plateau.

Automated Calculation Scheme for alpha^n Contributions of QED to Lepton g-2

This article reports an automated approach to the evaluation of higher-order terms of QED perturbation to anomalous magnetic moments of charged leptons by numerical means. We apply this approach to tenth-order correction due to a particular subcollection of Feynman diagrams, which have no virtual lepton loops. This set of diagrams is distinctive in that it grows factorially in number as the order increases, and also each of the diagrams holds quite a large number of subtraction terms to be treated along renormalization procedure. Thus some automated scheme has long been required to evaluate correctly this class of diagrams. We developed a fast algorithm and an implementation which automates necessary steps to generate from the representation of each Feynman diagram the FORTRAN codes for numerical integration. Currently those diagrams of tenth order are being evaluated.

Automated Calculation Scheme for alpha^n Contributions of QED to Lepton g-2: Generating Renormalized Amplitudes for Diagrams without Lepton Loops

Among 12672 Feynman diagrams contributing to the electron anomalous magnetic moment at the tenth order, 6354 are the diagrams having no lepton loops, i.e., those of quenched type. Because the renormalization structure of these diagrams is very complicated, some automation scheme is inevitable to calculate them. We developed an algorithm to write down FORTRAN programs for numerical evaluation of these diagrams, where the necessary counterterms to subtract out ultraviolet subdivergence are generated according to Zimmermann's forest formula. Thus far we have evaluated crudely integrals of 2232 tenth-order vertex diagrams which require vertex renormalization only. Remaining 4122 diagrams, which have ultraviolet-divergent self-energy subdiagrams and infrared-divergent subdiagrams, are being evaluated by giving small mass lambda to photons to control the infrared problem.

Photon energy absorption rate of a striped Hall gas

Using symmetries of the current correlation function, we analyze the frequency dependence of the photon energy absorption rate of a striped Hall gas. Since the magnetic translational symmetry is spontaneously broken in the striped Hall gas, a Nambu-Goldstone (NG) mode appears. It is shown that the NG mode causes a sharp absorption at the zero energy in the long wavelength limit by using the single mode approximation. The photon energy absorption rate at the NG mode frequency strongly depends on the direction of the wave number vector. Whereas, the absorption rate at the cyclotron frequency does not depend on the direction of the wave number vector in the long wavelength limit. The cyclotron resonance is not affected in the striped Hall gas. Our result supplements the Kohn's theorem in the system of the NG mode.

Intra-Landau level polarization effect for a striped Hall gas

We calculate the polarization function including only intra-Landau level correlation effects of striped Hall gas. Using the polarization function, the dielectric function, the dispersion of the plasmon and the correlation energy are computed in a random phase approximation (RPA) and generalized random phase approximation (GRPA). The plasmon becomes anisotropic and gapless owing to the anisotropy of the striped Hall gas and two dimensionality of the quantum Hall system. The plasmon approximately agrees with the phonon derived before by the single mode approximation. The (G)RPA correlation energy is compared with other numerical calculations.

Field Theory of Anisotropic Quantum Hall Gas: Metrology and a Novel Quantum Hall Regime

The von Neumann lattice representation is a convenient representation for studying several intriguing physics of quantum Hall systems. In this formalism, electrons are mapped to lattice fermions. A topological invariant expression of the Hall conductance is derived and is used for the proof of the integer quantum Hall effect in the realistic situation. Anisotropic quantum Hall gas is investigated based on the Hartree-Fock approximation in the same formalism. Thermodynamic properties, transport properties, and unusual response under external modulations are found. Implications for the integer quantum Hall effect in the finite systems are also studied and a new quantum Hall regime with non-zero longitudinal resistance is shown to exist.

Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy of Anatase TiO2 Doped with Co

Magneto-optical spectroscopy of a transparent ferromagnetic semiconductor, anatase TiO2 doped with Co, is carried out at room temperature. A large magneto-optical response with ferromagnetic field dependence is observed throughout from ultraviolet to visible range and increases with increasing Co content or carrier concentration. The magnitude of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) per unit thickness has a peak around the absorption edge such a huge value of ~10400 degree/cm at 3.57 eV for a 10 mol% Co-doped specimen. Although the results are not sufficient to prove that the ferromagnetism is in the ordinary framework of diluted magnetic semiconductors, the coexistence of Co impurity and mobile carrier is shown to transform the band structure of host TiO2 to generate ferromagnetism.

Optimal orientation of striped states in the quantum Hall system against external modulations (in 26th ICPS proceedings)

The physical properties of striped Hall state in the presence of an external unidirectional periodic potential is investigated. The study of searching the optimal orientation of the state is reported for the state at filling factor $ν=2+1/2$ and for the state at higher Landau levels at $l+1/2$ where $l=3,4,5,6,7,8$. It is predicted that two phases of the orientation, parallel phase and perpendicular phase, exist and a phase transition from one to another phase occurs.

Neutral Collective Excitations in Striped Hall States

In the striped Hall state, a magnetic translation in one direction is spontaneously broken to the discrete translation. The spectrum of the neutral collective excitation is obtained in the single mode approximation at half-filled third and fourth Landau levels. The spectrum is anisotropic and has a multiple line node structure. In one direction, the spectrum resembles the liquid Helium spectrum with the phonon and roton minimum.

Energy Spectrum of Neutral Collective Excitations in Striped Hall States

We investigate neutral collective excitations in the striped Hall state. In the striped Hall state, the magnetic translation and rotation symmetries are spontaneously broken. Using the commutation relation between charges and currents corresponding to the broken and unbroken symmetry, the existence of the gapless neutral excitation is proved. The spectrum of the neutral collective excitation at the half-filled third Landau level is obtained in the single mode approximation. We find the periodic line nodes in the spectrum. The spectrum is compared with the particle-hole excitation spectrum in the Hartree-Fock approximation.
