Microwave Hall measurements using a circularly polarized dielectric cavity

We have developed a circularly polarized dielectric rutile (TiO$_2$) cavity with a high quality-factor that can generate circularly polarized microwaves from two orthogonal linearly polarized microwaves with a phase difference of $\pm π/2$ using a hybrid coupler. Using this cavity, we have established a new methodology to measure the microwave Hall conductivity of a small single crystal of metal in the skin-depth region. Based on the cavity perturbation technique, we have shown that all components of the surface impedance tensor can be extracted under the application of a magnetic field by comparing the right- and left-handed circularly polarized modes. To verify the validity of the developed method, we performed test measurements on tiny Bi single crystals at low temperatures. As a result, we have successfully obtained the surface impedance tensor components and confirmed that the characteristic field dependence of the ac Hall angle in the microwave region is consistent with the expectation from the dc transport measurements. These results demonstrate a significant improvement in sensitivity compared to previous methods. Thus, our developed technique allows more accurate microwave Hall measurements, opening the way for new approaches to explore novel topological quantum phenomena, such as time-reversal symmetry breaking in superconductors.

Large Zeeman Splitting in Out-of-Plane Magnetic Field in a Double-Layer Quantum Point Contact

In this study, we observe that the conductance of a quantum point contact on a GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum well depends significantly on the magnetic field perpendicular to the two-dimensional electron gas. In the presence of the magnetic field, the subband edge splitting due to the Zeeman energy reaches 0.09 meV at 0.16 T, thereby suggesting an enhanced g-factor. The estimated g-factor enhancement is 17.5 times that of the bare value. It is considered that a low electron density and high mobility makes it possible to reach a strong many-body interaction regime in which this type of strong enhancement in g-factor can be observed.

Conductance quantization and shot noise of a double-layer quantum point contact

The conductance quantization and shot noise below the first conductance plateau $G_0 = 2e^2/h$ are measured in a quantum point contact fabricated in a GaAs/AlGaAs tunnel-coupled double quantum well. From the conductance measurement, we observe a clear quantized conductance plateau at $0.5G_0$ and a small minimum in the transconductance at $0.7 G_0$. Spectroscopic transconductance measurement reveals three maxima inside the first diamond, thus suggesting three minima in the dispersion relation for electric subbands. Shot noise measurement shows that the Fano factor behavior is consistent with this observation. We propose a model that relates these features to a wavenumber directional split subband due to a strong Rashba spin--orbit interaction that is induced by the center barrier potential gradient of the double-layer sample.

A chiral Borel-Weil-Bott theorem

We compute the cohomology of modules over the algebra of twisted chiral differential operators over the flag manifold. This is applied to (1) finding the character of $G$-integrable irreducible highest weight modules over the affine Lie algebra at the critical level, and (2) computing a certain elliptic genus of the flag manifold. The main tool is a result that interprets the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction as a derived functor.

Localization of affine W-algebras

We introduce the notion of an asymptotic algebra of chiral differential operators. We then construct, via a chiral Hamiltonian reduction, one such algebra over a resolution of the intersection of the Slodowy slice with the nilpotent cone. We compute the space of global sections of this algebra thereby proving a localization theorem for affine W-algebras at the critical level.

A vertex algebra attached to the flag manifold and Lie algebra cohomology

Each flag manifold carries a unique algebra of chiral differential operators. Continuing along the lines of arXiv:0903.1281 we compute the vertex algebra structure on the cohomology of this algebra. The answer is: the tensor product of the center and a subalgebra; the center is isomorphic, as a commutative associative algebra, to the cohomology of the corresponding maximal nilpotent Lie algebra; the subalgebra is the vacuum module over the corresponding affine Lie algebra of critical level and 0 central character. We next find the Friedan-Martinec-Shenker-Borisov bosonization of the cohomology algebra in case of the projective line and show that this algebra vanishes nonperturbatively, thus verifying a suggestion by Witten.

Degenerate Double Affine Hecke Algebra And Conformal Field Theory

We introduce a class of induced representations of the degenerate double affine Hecke algebra of gl_N and analyze their structure mainly by means of intertwiners. We also construct them from modules of the affine Lie algebra using Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connections in the conformal field theory. This construction provides a natural quotient of induced modules, which turns out to be the unique irreducible one under a certain condition. Some cunjectual formulas are presented for the symmetric part of these quotients.

Lie algebras and degenerate Affine Hecke Algebras of type A

We construct a family of exact functors from the BGG category of representations of the Lie algebra sl to the category of finite-dimensional representations of the degenerate (or graded) affine Hecke algebra H of GL. These functors transform Verma modules to standard modules or zero, and simple modules to simple modules or zero. Any simple H-module can be thus obtained.
