Indication of quark deconfinement and evidence for a Hubble flow in 130 and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions

Buda-Lund hydro model fits are compared to BRAHMS, PHENIX, PHOBOS and STAR data on identified particle spectra, two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations, charged particle pseudorapidity distributions and pseudorapidity as well as p_t dependent elliptic flow in sqrt(s_NN) = 130 and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Preliminary results indicate that 7/8-th of the particle emitting volume is rather cold, with surface temperature of 105 MeV, but the temperature has a distribution and the most central 1/8-th of the volume is superheated to temperatures above the critical value, T(x) > T_c = 172 \pm 3 MeV.

Buda-Lund hydro model for ellipsoidally symmetric fireballs and the elliptic flow at RHIC

The ellipsoidally symmetric extension of Buda-Lund hydrodynamic model is shown here to yield a natural description of the pseudorapidity dependence of the elliptic flow $v_2(η)$, as determined recently by the PHOBOS experiment for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130$ and 200 GeV. With the same set of parameters, the Buda-Lund model describes also the transverse momentum dependence of $v_2$ of identified particles at mid-rapidity. The results confirm the indication for quark deconfinement in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, obtained from a successful Buda-Lund hydro model fit to the single particle spectra and two-particle correlation data, as measured by the BRAHMS, PHOBOS, PHENIX and STAR collaborations.

Stable Bose-Einstein correlations

The shape of Bose-Einstein (or HBT) correlation functions is determined for the case when particles are emitted from a stable source, obtained after convolutions of large number of elementary random processes. The two-particle correlation function is shown to have a {\it stretched exponential} shape, characterized by the Lévy index of stability $ 0 < α\le 2$ and the scale parameter $R$. The normal, Gaussian shape corresponds to a particular case, when $α= 2$ is selected. The asymmetry parameter of the stable source, $β$ is shown to be proportional to the angle, measured by the normalized three-particle cumulant correlations.

Buda-Lund hydro model and the elliptic flow at RHIC

The ellipsoidally symmetric Buda-Lund hydrodynamic model describes naturally the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity dependence of the elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130$ and 200 GeV. The result confirms the indication of quark deconfinement in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, obtained from Buda-Lund hydro model fits to combined spectra and HBT radii of BRAHMS, PHOBOS, PHENIX and STAR.

A hint at quark deconfinement in 200 GeV Au+Au data at RHIC

We give the emission function of the axially symmetric Buda-Lund hydro model and present its simultaneous, high quality fits to identified particle spectra, two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations and charged particle pseudorapidity distributions as measured by BRAHMS and PHENIX in 0-30 % central, $\sqrt{s_{\NN}} = 200$ GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The best fit is achieved when the most central region of the particle emitting volume is superheated to $T_0 = 200 \pm 9$ MeV $ \ge T_c =172 \pm 3$ MeV, a preliminary, 3 $σ$ effect.

An indication for deconfinement in Au+Au collisions at RHIC

We present simultaneous, quality fits to final BRAHMS, PHENIX, PHOBOS and STAR data on particle spectra and two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations as measured in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130$ GeV. Using the Buda-Lund hydro model, the best fit is achieved when the most central 1/8th of the particle emitting volume is superheated to $T > T_c =170$ MeV. In contrast, we find no indication for such a hot central region in a similar analysis of Pb+Pb data at CERN SPS.

Simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics for systems with ellipsoidal symmetry

Simple, self-similar, analytic solutions of (1+3)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics are presented for ellipsoidally symmetric finite fireballs corresponding to non-central collisions of heavy ions at relativistic bombarding energies. The hydrodynamical solutions are obtained for a new, general family of equations of state with the possibility of describing phase transitions.

Simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics for longitudinally and cylindrically expanding systems

Simple, self-similar, analytic solutions of 1 + 1 dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics are presented, generalizing the Hwa - Bjorken boost-invariant solution to inhomogeneous rapidity distributions. These solutions are generalized also to 1 + 3 dimensional, cylindrically symmetric firetubes, corresponding to central collisions of heavy ions at relativistic bombarding energies.

The reconstructed final state of Au + Au collisions from PHENIX and STAR data at sqrt{s}=130 AGeV - indication for quark deconfinement at RHIC

The final state of Au + Au collisions at sqrt{s}=130 AGeV at RHIC has been reconstructed within the framework of the Buda-Lund hydrodynamical model, by performing a simultaneous fit to final data on two-particle Bose-Einstein correlations of the STAR and PHENIX Collaborations, and final identified single particle spectra as measured by the PHENIX Collaboration. The results indicate a strongly three-dimensional expansion with a four-velocity field that is almost a spherically symmetric Hubble flow. We find large transverse geometrical source sizes, R_G = 9.8 +- 1.2 fm, a relatively short mean freeze-out time of tau0 = 6.1 +- 0.3 fm/c and a short duration of particle emission, Delta_tau = 0.02 +- 1.5 fm/c. Most strikingly, we find an indication for a hot central part or the hydrodynamically evolving core, characterized by a central temperature of T0 = 202 +- 13 MeV, that is close to (or even above) the deconfinement temperature of the quark-hadron phase transition. The best fit indicates a cold surface temperature of T_s = 110 +- 16 MeV. When the possibility of the hot center is excluded, the confidence level of the fit decreases from 28.9 % to 1.2 %. Predictions are made for the rapidity dependence of the slope parameters, for the transverse mass dependence of the rapidity-width of the single-particle spectra, and for the transverse velocity dependence of the non-indentical particle correlations.

Inflation of fireballs, the gluon wind and the homogeneity of the HBT radii at RHIC

We solve analytically the ellipsoidally expanding fireball hydrodynamics with source terms in the momentum and the energy equations, using the non-relativistic approximation. We find that energy transport from high pt jets of gluons to the medium leads to a transient, exponential inflation of the fireballs created in high energy heavy ion collisions. In this transient, inflatory period, the slopes of the single particle spectra increase, while the HBT radius parameters decrease exponentially with time. This effect is shown to be similar to the development of the homogeneity of our Universe due to an inflatory period. Independently of the initial conditions, and the exact value of the freeze-out time and temperature, the meausurables (single particle spectra, the correlation functions, the slope parameters, elliptic flow, HBT radii and cross terms) become time independent during the late, non-inflatory stages of the expansion, and they satisfy new kind of scaling laws. If the expansion starts with a transient inflation caused by the gluon wind, it leads naturally to large transverse flows and the simultaneous equality and scaling behaviour of the HBT radius parameters, R_{side} \approx R_{out} \approx R_{long} \approx t_f \sqrt{T_f/m}. With certain relativistic corrections, the scaling limit is τ_f \sqrt{T_f/m_t}, where m_t is the mean transverse mass of the pair.

The Hubble constant of the expanding final state of this heavy ion collision is determined to be H = = 0.77 +- 0.09.

Buckyballs and gluon junction networks on the femtometer scale

We explore the possibility that novel geometrical structures analogous to carbon Fullerenes may exist in Nature on the femtometer scale. QCD predicts the existence of special topological gluon field configurations called baryon junctions and anti-junctions. Here we show that femto-scale structures, networks or closed (gluon field) cages, can be constructed in the theory of QCD as tiny cousins of familiar nano-scale structures such as carbonic Fullerenes C_{60}, C_{70}. The most symmetric polyhedra of QCD junctions (J-balls) are characterized by the magic numbers 8, 24, 48, and 120, and zero net baryon number. Tubes, prisms, tori and other topological structures can also be created. In addition, special configurations can be constructed that are odd under charge and parity conjugation (CP), although the QCD Lagrangian is CP even. We provide a semi-classical estimate for the expected mass range of QCD Buckyballs and discuss the possible conditions under which such novel topological excitations of the QCD vacuum may be produced in experiments of high energy physics.
