Invariant Buda-Lund Particle Interferometry

The invariant Buda-Lund parameterization of the two-particle Bose-Einstein correlation functions is presented, its derivation is summarized. In its particular multi-variate Gaussian limiting case, the invariant Buda - Lund parameterization is compared to the Bertsch-Pratt and Yano-Koonin-Podgoretskii parameterizations, advantages and shortcomings are discussed. The invariant Buda-Lund parameterizations are given also for non-Gaussian multi-variate distributions, including damped oscillations in the like-particle correlation function, that are similar to the oscillating intensity correlations of binary stars in stellar interferometry. A separation between the pion and the proton source is also estimated in the Buda - Lund hydro framework, the result is utilized to extract the mean proper time of particle emission with the help of fits to E877 data on non-identical particle correlations by Miskowiec.

Partial coherence in the core/halo picture of Bose-Einstein n-particle correlations

We study the influence of a possible coherent component in the boson source on the two-, three- and $n$-particle correlation functions in a generalized core/halo type of boson-emitting source. In particular, a simple formula is presented for the strengh of the $n$-particle correlation functions for such systems. Graph rules are obtained to evaluate the correlation functions of arbitrary high order. The importance of experimental determination of the 4-th and 5-th order Bose-Einstein correlation function is emphasized.

On Bose-condensation of wave-packets in heavy ion collisions

A recently obtained exact analytic solution to the wave-packet version of the pion-laser model is presented. In the rare gas limit, a thermal behaviour is found while the dense gas limiting case corresponds to Bose-Einstein condensation of wave-packets to the wave-packet mode with the smallest possible energy.

On source parameters from particle correlations and spectra

Analytic and numeric approximations are studied in detail for a hydrodynamic parameterization of single-particle spectra and two-particle correlation functions in high energy hadron-proton and heavy ion reactions. Two very different sets of model parameters are shown to result in similarly shaped correlation functions and single particle spectra in a rather large region of the momentum space. However, the absolute normalization of the single-particle spectra is found to be highly sensitive to the choice of the model parameters. For data fitting the analytic formulas are re-phrased in terms of parameters of direct physical meaning, like mean transverse flow. The difference between the analytic and numeric approximations are determined as an analytic function of source parameters.

Testing Buda-Lund hydro model on particle correlations and spectra in NA44, WA93 and WA98 heavy ion experiments

Analytic and numerical approximations to a hydrodynamical model describing longitudinally expanding, cylindrically symmetric, finite systems are fitted to preliminary NA44 data measured in 200 AGeV central $S + Pb$ reactions. The model describes the measured spectra and HBT radii of pions, kaons and protons, simultaneously. The source is characterized by a central freeze-out temperature of T_0 = 154 +/- 8 +/- 11 MeV, a "surface" temperature of T_r = 107 +/- 28 +/- 18 MeV and by a well-developed transverse flow, = 0.53 +/- 0.17 +/- 0.11. The transverse geometrical radius and the mean freeze-out time are found to be R_G = 5.4 +/- 0.9 +/- 0.7 fm and tau_0 = 5.1 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.3 fm/c, respectively. Fits to preliminary WA93 200 AGeV S + Au and WA98 158 AGeV Pb + Pb data dominated by pions indicate similar model parameters. The absolute normalization of the measured particle spectra together with the experimental determination of both the statistical and the systematic errors were needed to obtain successful fits.

New analytic solutions of the non-relativistic hydrodynamical equations

New solutions are found for the non-relativistic hydrodynamical equations. These solutions describe expanding matter with a Gaussian density profile. In the simplest case, thermal equilibrium is maintained without any interaction, the energy is conserved, and the process is isentropic. More general solutions are also obtained that describe explosions driven by heat production, or contraction of the matter caused by energy loss.

Simple analytic solution of fireball hydrodynamics

A new family of simple analytic solutions of hydrodynamics is found for non-relativistic, rotationally symmetric fireballs assuming an ideal gas equation of state. The solution features linear flow profile and a non-trivial transverse temperature profile. The radial temperature gradient vanishes only in the collisionless gas limit. The Zimanyi-Bondorf-Garpman solution and the Buda-Lund parameterization of expanding hydrodynamical sources are recovered as special cases. The results are applied to predict new features of proton-proton correlations and spectra data at 1.93 AGeV Ni + Ni reactions.

Testing the Core-Halo Model on Bose-Einstein Correlation Functions

Having first performed a Monte Carlo simulation to justify the analysis technique to be used, we then analyze the Bose-Einstein correlation functions from CERN experiment NA44 in the context of the core-halo model. Although experimental resolution and error bar distribution prevents a direct observation of the halo structure, the values for the core radius and the core fraction of pions can be obtained in a straight-forward manner. These are found to be independent of the structure of the correlation function at small relative momenta of Q < 50 MeV. Hence, the omega meson decay products do not distort the Gaussian shape of the Bose-Einstein correlation function in S + Pb -> pi + pi + X reaction at CERN SPS. As we find that the "model-independent" HBT radii yield results that are quantitatively as well as qualitatively unreliable for systems with long-lived resonances, we present their corrected form that applies for correlation functions with lambda(K) < 1.

Two-mode squeezed states in high energy physics

We discuss the possibility to observe hadron modification in hot and dense matter via the correlation of identical particles. We find that a modification of hadronic masses in medium leads to two-mode squeezing which signals itself in a back-to-back correlations of hadrons. This effect leads to a signal of a shift of $ϕ$-meson mass.

Multi-Boson Correlations Using Wave-Packets

Brooding over bosons, wave packets and Bose - Einstein correlations, we present a generic quantum mechanical system that contains arbitrary number of bosons characterized by wave-packets and that can undergo a Bose-Einstein condensation either by cooling, or increasing the number density of bosons, or by increasing the overlap of the multi-boson wave-packet states, achieved by changing the size of the single-particle wave-packets. We show that the n-particle correlations may mimic coherent or chaotic behaviour for certain limiting wave-packet sizes. Effects of complete n-particle symmetrization are included. The resulting weights which fluctuate between 1 and n! are summed up with the help of a formal analogy between the considered wave-packet system and an already explored multi-boson plane-wave system. We solve the model analytically in the highly condensed and in the rare gas limiting cases, numerically in the intermediate cases. The relevance of the model to multi-pion production in high energy heavy ion physics as well as to the Bose-Einstein condensation of atomic vapours is discussed. As a by-product, a new class of probability distribution functions is obtained, event-by-event fluctuations of single-particle momentum distributions are predicted and the critical density for the onset of pion-lasing in high energy heavy ion collisions is derived.

Higher Order Bose-Einstein Correlations for Systems with Large Halo

A generalization of the core/halo model to the Bose-Einstein correlation function of any number of particles is presented. In particular, a simple prediction is obtained for the intercept parameter of the n-particle inclusive Bose-Einstein correlation functions for arbitrary large values of n.

Analytic Solution of the Pion-Laser Model

Brooding over bosons, wave packets and Bose - Einstein correlations, we find that a generalization of the pion-laser model for the case of overlapping wave-packets is analytically solvable with complete n-particle symmetrization. The effective radius parameter of the two-particle correlation function is reduced for low values and enlargened for high values of the mean momentum in the rare gas limiting case, as compared to the case when multi-particle symmetrization effects are neglected. These results explicitly depend on the multiplicity, providing a theoretical basis for event-by-event analysis of high energy heavy ion reactions.

Quantum-Statistical Correlations and Single Particle Distributions for Slowly Expanding Systems with Temperature Profile

Competition among particle evaporation, temperature gradient and flow is investigated in a phenomenological manner, based on a simultaneous analysis of quantum statistical correlations and momentum distributions for a non-relativistic, spherically symmetric, three-dimensionally expanding, finite source. The parameters of the model emission function are constrained by fits to neutron and proton momentum distributions and correlation functions in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. The temperature gradient is related to the momentum dependence of the radius parameters of the two-particle correlation function, as well as to the momentum-dependent temperature parameter of the single particle spectrum, while a long duration of particle evaporation is found to be responsible for the low relative momentum behavior of the two-particle correlations.

Hydrodynamic Parameterization of NA44 Data on Kaon and Pion Correlations and Spectra

An analytically calculable model has been proposed recently for the simultaneous description of particle spectra and correlations, which is able to explain in a natural manner the $m_t$ scaling of the radius parameters of the Bose--Einstein correlation functions. We present here preliminary results on fitting this model to data sampled by NA44 collaboration in central S + Pb reactions at CERN SPS, which indicate that both pions and kaons freeze-out at a surprisingly low temperature of T approximately 108 MeV.

How to Distinguish Hydrodynamic Models Utilizing Particle Correlations and Spectra ?

We demonstrate on examples that a simultaneous study of the Bose-Einstein correlation function and the invariant momentum distribution can be very useful in distinguishing various hydrodynamic models, which describe separately the short-range correlations in high energy hadronic reactions as measured by the NA22 collaboration. We also analyze Bose-Einstein correlation functions, measured by the NA44 experiment at CERN SPS, in the context of the core-halo model.
