Updated NNLO QCD predictions for the weak radiative B-meson decays

Weak radiative decays of the B mesons belong to the most important flavor changing processes that provide constraints on physics at the TeV scale. In the derivation of such constraints, accurate standard model predictions for the inclusive branching ratios play a crucial role. In the current Letter we present an update of these predictions, incorporating all our results for the O(alpha_s^2) and lower-order perturbative corrections that have been calculated after 2006. New estimates of nonperturbative effects are taken into account, too. For the CP- and isospin-averaged branching ratios, we find B_{s gamma} = (3.36 +_ 0.23) * 10^-4 and B_{d gamma} = 1.73^{+0.12}_{-0.22} * 10^-5, for E_gamma > 1.6GeV. Both results remain in agreement with the current experimental averages. Normalizing their sum to the inclusive semileptonic branching ratio, we obtain R_gamma = ( B_{s gamma} + B_{d gamma})/B_{c l nu} = (3.31 +_ 0.22) * 10^-3. A new bound from B_{s gamma} on the charged Higgs boson mass in the two-Higgs-doublet-model II reads M_{H^+} > 480 GeV at 95%C.L.

Complete (O_7,O_8) contribution to B -> X_s gamma at order alpha_s^2

We calculate the set of O(alpha_s^2) corrections to the branching ratio and to the photon energy spectrum of the decay process B -> X_s gamma originating from the interference of diagrams involving the electromagnetic dipole operator O_7 with diagrams involving the chromomagnetic dipole operator O_8. The corrections evaluated here are one of the elements needed to complete the calculations of the B -> X_s gamma branching ratio at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. We conclude that this set of corrections does not change the central value of the Standard Model prediction for Br(B -> X_s gamma) by more than 1 %.

Estimate of BR(B -> X_s gamma) at O(alpha_s^2)

Combining our results for various O(alpha_s^2) corrections to the weak radiative B-meson decay, we are able to present the first estimate of the branching ratio at the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. We find BR(B -> X_s gamma) = (3.15 +_ 0.23) x 10^-4 for E_gamma > 1.6 GeV in the B-meson rest frame. The four types of uncertainties: non-perturbative (5%), parametric (3%), higher-order (3%) and m_c-interpolation ambiguity (3%) have been added in quadrature to obtain the total error.

Magnetic dipole operator contributions to the photon energy spectrum in anti-B -> X(s) gamma at O(alpha(s)^2)

We compute the O(α_s^2) contributions to the photon energy spectrum of the inclusive decay \bar{B} -> X_s γassociated with the magnetic penguin operator O_7. They are an essential part of the ongoing NNLO calculation of this important decay. We use two different methods to evaluate the master integrals, one based on the differential equation approach and the other on sector decomposition, leading to identical results which in turn agree with those of a recent independent calculation by Melnikov and Mitov. We study the numerical relevance of this set of NNLO contributions in the photon energy spectrum and discuss the change of bottom quark mass scheme.

NNLL QCD Contribution of the Electromagnetic Dipole Operator to Gamma(anti-B -> X(s) gamma)

We present an independent calculation of that part of the O(α_s^2) contribution to the decay width Γ(\bar B -> X_s γ) which arises from the self-interference term of the electromagnetic dipole operator O_7. Using a different method, we find complete agreement with a previous calculation. This NNLL contribution is an important ingredient for the complete NNLL prediction of Γ(\bar B -> X_s γ) which will resolve the charm quark mass ambiguity appearing at NLL accuracy.

Enhancement of Br(B_d -> mu^+ mu^-)/Br(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-) in the MSSM with Modified Minimal Flavour Violation and Large tan(beta)

We extend our previous analysis of the decays B_{d,s} -> mu^+ mu^- in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) to include gluino and neutralino contributions. We provide analytic formulae, valid at large values of tan(beta), for the scalar and pseudoscalar Wilson coefficients arising from neutral Higgs boson exchange diagrams with gluinos and neutralinos. Together with the remaining contributions (W^{+/-}, H^{+/-}, charginos), and assuming the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix to be the only source of flavour violation, we assess their implications for the branching fractions Br(B_{d,s} -> mu^+ mu^-). Of particular interest is the quantity R = Br(B_d -> mu^+ mu^-)/Br(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-), since (i) the theoretical errors cancel to a large extent, and (ii) it offers a theoretically clean way of extracting the ratio |V_{td}/V_{ts}| in the Standard Model (SM), which predicts R_SM ~ |V_{td}/V_{ts}|^2 ~ O(10^{-2}). Exploring three different scenarios of modified minimal flavour violation, we find that part of the MSSM parameter space can accommodate large Br(B_{d,s} -> mu^+ mu^-) branching fractions, while being consistent with various experimental constraints. More importantly, we show that the ratio R can be as large as O(1), while the individual branching fractions may be amenable to detection by ongoing experiments. We conclude that within the MSSM with large tan(beta) the decay rates of B_{d} -> mu^+ mu^- and B_{s} -> mu^+ mu^- can be of comparable size even in the case where flavour violation is due solely to the CKM matrix.

Analysis of Neutral Higgs-Boson Contributions to the Decays B_s -> l^+l^- and B -> K l^+l^-

We report on a calculation of Higgs-boson contributions to the decays B_s -> l^+l^- and B -> K l^+l^- (l=e, mu) which are governed by the effective Hamiltonian describing b -> s l^+ l^-. Compact formulae for the Wilson coefficients are provided in the context of the type-II two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) and supersymmetry (SUSY) with minimal flavour violation, focusing on the case of large tan(beta). We derive, in a model-independent way, constraints on Higgs-boson-mediated interactions, using present experimental results on rare B decays including b -> s gamma, B_s -> mu^+ mu^-, and B -> K^(*) mu^+ mu^-. In particular, we assess the impact of possible scalar and pseudoscalar interactions transcending the standard model (SM) on the branching ratio of B_s -> mu^+ mu^- and the forward-backward (FB) asymmetry of mu^- in B -> K mu^+ mu^- decay. We find that the average FB asymmetry, which is unobservably small within the SM, and therefore a potentially valuable tool to search for new physics, is predicted to be no greater than 4% for a nominal branching ratio of about 6x10^{-7}. Moreover, striking effects on the decay spectrum of B -> K mu^+ mu^- are already ruled out by experimental data on the B_s -> mu^+ mu^- branching fraction. In addition, we study the constraints on the parameter space of the 2HDM and SUSY with minimal flavour violation. While the type-II 2HDM does not give any sizable contributions to the above decay modes, we find that SUSY contributions obeying the constraint on b -> s gamma can affect significantly the branching ratio of B_s -> mu^+ mu^-. We also comment on previous calculations contained in the literature.
