Four-neutron halo model at the unitary limit

In some neutron-rich nuclei usually treated as two-neutron halos, the core can itself be resolved into a subcore-neutron-neutron subsystem, so that four valence neutrons may be involved. To describe this situation, a four-neutron halo model in the unitary limit is developed and applied to $^{22}$C, $^{19}$B, and $^{14}$Be, in which a compact nuclear core is surrounded by two weakly bound spin-singlet neutron pairs occupying different spatial shells, characterized by two independent momentum scales, with the four-neutron wave function fully antisymmetrized. The evolution of the halo structure with the ratio of the two scales is mapped from the limit of well-separated scales, where the system reduces to an effective two-neutron halo around a structured core, to the regime of comparable scales, where the four-neutron character is fully developed. At intermediate ratios, a window is identified in which the dimensionless root-mean-square distances become insensitive to the scale hierarchy and the system behaves approximately as a one-scale configuration. The calculated matter radii of $^{22}$C and $^{19}$B are consistent with the most recent experimental values and, within current uncertainties, the matter radius does not discriminate between an effective two-neutron-halo and an explicit four-neutron-halo description of $^{22}$C. Distinguishing the two pictures requires observables sensitive to the shape of the halo distribution, such as ratios of higher radial moments. For $^{14}$Be, the computed charge radius is consistent with the value derived from the measured point-proton radius.

Momentum Distribution and Contact Parameters of a mass-imbalanced three-body system across the Efimov-Unatomic transition

We investigate the single-particle momentum distribution and contact parameters of mass-imbalanced three-body systems at the critical dimension Dc, where the transition between discrete and continuous scale invariance takes place as the spatial dimension is tuned between three and two dimensions. We show that the asymptotic momentum distribution at Dc is governed by a distinct logarithmic scaling structure, which differs fundamentally from both the log-periodic behavior of Efimov states and the power-law scaling of the unatomic regime. This structure requires the introduction of an additional three-body contact parameter associated with a quadratic logarithmic contribution, leading to a finite and well-defined description of the momentum tail at the transition. This additional three-body parameter depends sensitively on the mass imbalance, changing sign across different mass configurations and vanishing for identical particles. As a consequence, the three-body contribution to the momentum distribution can be suppressed at a characteristic momentum scale, leaving the asymptotic tail entirely determined by the two-body contact. We further analyze the narrow intermediate region connecting the Efimov and unatomic regimes, here identified as an intermediate scaling regime, whose extent and properties are strongly controlled by the mass ratio. These results establish the critical dimension as a regime with emergent scaling properties and provide experimentally accessible signatures for probing the transition between discrete and continuous scale invariance in few-body quantum systems.

Geometric structure of two-neutron halo nuclei from Efimov physics at the unitary limit

We investigate the geometric structure of two-neutron halo nuclei from the perspective of Efimov physics. Using the analytic three-body wave function obtained from the Faddeev equations in the unitary limit, we explore the connection between Efimov universality and the spatial configuration of these weakly bound systems. The internal geometry is quantified through probability densities, root-mean-square interparticle distances and characteristic opening angles, evaluated for different neutron-core mass ratios. Our results reveal a universal trend in the geometry of s-wave dominated halo nuclei, reflecting the universal correlations characteristic of the Efimov-like regime.

Light-front mass operator with dressed quarks

We construct an effective light-front mass-squared operator for quark-antiquark systems that incorporates quark dressing effects through a running quark mass. Starting from a Minkowski-space quark propagator constrained by lattice-QCD-inspired parametrization, we derive the disconnected light-front resolvent for a light quark-antiquark system using a generalized spectral representation of an individual quark propagator separating out the instantaneous contributions. By projecting the resolvent onto a constituent-quark helicity basis, we obtain an effective dressed mass-squared operator suitable for light-front Hamiltonian approaches. We introduce an effective light-front quark self-energy and analyze its momentum dependence. As an application, we study pion structure using representative light-front wave-function models and compute unpolarized transverse-momentum-dependent distributions, unpolarized parton distribution functions and distribution amplitudes. Our results show that quark dressing induces sizable infrared modifications while preserving controlled ultraviolet behavior, providing a framework to incorporate nonperturbative QCD dynamics into light-front descriptions of hadrons.

Confinement-induced unatomic trimer states in mass-imbalanced systems

As resonantly interacting trimers of the type AAB are progressively squeezed from $D=3$ to $D=2$, unatomic states emerge. We calculated the contacts from the high momentum tail of the single particle densities. The sharp increase of the contacts serves as a signature of the transition between the Efimov and unatomic regimes, characterized by the emergence of continuous scale invariance when the system reaches a critical dimension, $D_c$. This continuous scale invariance starts to dominate the behavior of the system at the dimension $\overline{D}<D_c$, below which the trimers momentum distribution tails exhibit a power-law behavior signaling the unatomic regime. To illustrate our findings, we studied compounds of the forms $^{7}$Li$-^{23}$Na$_{2}$, $^{7}$Li$-^{87}$Rb$_{2}$ and $^{7}$Li$-^{133}$Cs$_{2}$. The increase in the mass-imbalance of the trimers reduces the interval between $D_c$ and $\overline{D}$. The emergence of unatomic states can be experimentally verified by observing the two-body contact parameter, which is a quantity directly related to the thermodynamic properties of the gas.

On the momentum space structure of the quark propagator

The structure of the quark propagator in momentum space is explored taking into account non-perturbative QCD dynamics constraints for the quark spectral densities derived previously. We assume that the scalar and vector component of the quark propagator share a simple pole but not its residuum, together with other structures. Furthermore, a connection between the poles of the quark propagator and the zeros of the quark wave function $Z(p^2)$ is established. Asymptotic scaling laws for the representation of the quark propagator, after removing the shared pole, are also derived. The confrontation of our results with lattice data for the full QCD quark propagator data are in good agreement. Exploring the link with the lattice data and looking at the Bethe-Salpeter vertex and amplitude, in the chiral limit, we are able to provide estimations for these quantities, for $f_\pi$ and for the shared pole mass. The pole mass reproduces the constituent quark mass used in the quark models.

Hadronic rescattering to solve helicity puzzle in $B^+\to p\bar p \pi^+(K^+)$ decays

We explore the contribution of hadronic final state interactions (FSI) to propose a production mechanism and interpret the puzzle on helicity angle distributions in $B^+\to p\bar p \pi^+$ and $B^+\to p\bar p K^+$ decays. Experimental results indicate opposite helicity angle $\theta_p$ distributions in those two channels with the difference presenting a remarkable linear dependence on $\cos \theta_p$. We assume the production mechanism is driven by $B^+\to xy\, m^+ \to p\bar p m^+$, where $m =\pi$ or $K$, and $xy$ represents favorable mesonic decay channels producing $p\bar p$. We develop a model that includes three-body final state interaction between the $p\,,~\bar p$ and $\pi^+$ or $K^+$ considering the dominance of elastic channels $\pi^+p$ and $K^+\bar p$ interactions below 2\,GeV/c$^2$. Our three-body framework with FSI explains qualitatively the observed opposite behavior of the helicity distributions and the observed linearity.

The glue that binds us all -- Latin America and the Electron-Ion Collider

The Electron-Ion Collider, a next generation electron-hadron and electron-nuclei scattering facility, will be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The wealth of new data will shape research in hadron physics, from nonperturbative QCD techniques to perturbative QCD improvements and global QCD analyses, for the decades to come. With the present proposal, Latin America based physicists, whose expertise lies on the theory and phenomenology side, make the case for the past and future efforts of a growing community, working hand-in-hand towards developing theoretical tools and predictions to analyze, interpret and optimize the results that will be obtained at the EIC, unveiling the role of the glue that binds us all. This effort is along the lines of various initiatives taken in the U.S., and supported by colleagues worldwide, such as the ones by the EIC User Group which were highlighted during the Snowmass Process and the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5).

Confinement-induced unatomic trimer states

The signature of an unatomic system is revealed by a continuous scale invariance that appears during a progressive dimensional squeezing of a resonantly interacting trimer. The unatomic regime is reached at the dimension $\overline D$, which for three identical atoms is found to be $\overline D=2.292$ - below this value, the trimer wave function at short distances displays a power-law behaviour. The fingerprint of this crossover is a sharp evolution of the contacts that characterizes the trimer momentum distribution tail.

Reliability of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation in noninteger dimensions

We address the question of the reliability of the Born-Oppenheimer (BO) approximation for a mass-imbalanced resonant three-body system embedded in noninteger dimensions. We address this question within the problem of a system of currently experimental interest, namely $^7$Li$-^{87}$Rb$_2$. We compare the Efimov scale parameter as well as the wave functions obtained using the BO approximation with those obtained using the Bethe-Peierls boundary condition.

Off-shell pion properties: electromagnetic form factors and light-front wave functions

The off-shell pion electromagnetic form factors are explored with corresponding off-shell light-front wave functions modeled by constituent quark and anti-quark. We apply the Mandelstam approach for the microscopic computation of the form factors relating the model parameters with the pion decay constant and charge radius. Analyzing the existing data on the cross-sections for the Sullivan process, H(e,e',pi)n, we extract the off-shell pion form factor using the relation derived from the generalized Ward-Takahashi identity for the pion electromagnetic current. They are compared with our previous results from exactly solvable manifestly covariant model of a (3+1)-dimensional fermion field theory. We find that the adopted constituent quark model reproduces the extracted off-shell form factor $F_1(Q^2,t)$ from the experimental data within a few percent difference and matches well with our previous theoretical simulation which exhibits a variation of about 10\% for the extracted off-shell pion form factor $g(Q^2,t)$. We also identify the pion valence parton distribution function (PDF) and transverse momentum distribution (TMD) in terms of the light-front wave function and discuss their off-shell properties.

Kaon Structure in the Nuclear Medium within the Light Front Approach

We study the properties of the charged kaon in symmetric nuclear matter using a Bethe-Salpeter amplitude to model the quark-anti-quark bound state, which is well constrained by previous studies of its vacuum properties. The electromagnetic form factor, charge radius, decay constant and the light-front valence component probability are investigated in symmetric nuclear matter. In order to describe the constituent up and anti-strange quarks in nuclear matter, we adopt the ``quark-meson coupling (QMC) model", which has been widely applied to various hadronic and nuclear phenomena in the nuclear medium.

The Four-Boson First-Excited State Near Two-Body Unitarity

Near two-body unitarity, the three-boson system is characterized by an approximate discrete scale invariance manifest in a geometric tower of bound states (the Efimov effect). In the absence of a strong four-body force, the four-boson system has two states associated with each Efimov state, one very nearly unstable, the other several times deeper. We study correlations between the excited- and ground-state properties, such as binding energies and radii, up to next-to-leading order in an effective field theory for short-range forces. We obtain the parameters in these correlations from similar correlations arising from existing precise calculations based on short-range potentials. We also derive correlations among excited-state properties that emerge from the proximity of the state to the break-up threshold into a boson and a three-boson bound state, using an effective field theory for "halo" states.

Single-particle momentum distribution of Efimov states in noninteger dimensions

We studied the single-particle momentum distribution of mass-imbalanced Efimov states embedded in noninteger dimensions. The contact parameters, which can be related to the thermodynamic properties of the gas, were calculated from the high momentum tail of the single particle densities. We studied the dependence of the contact parameters with the progressive change of the noninteger dimension, ranging from three (D=3) to two (D=2) dimensions. Within this interval, we move from the (D=3) regime where the Efimov discrete scale symmetry drives the physics, until close to the critical dimension, which depends on the mass imbalance, where the continuum scale symmetry takes place. We found that the two- and three-body contacts grow significantly in magnitude with the decrease of the noninteger dimension towards the critical dimension, impacting observables of resonantly interacting trapped Bose gases.

Perspectives on few-body cluster structures in exotic nuclei

It is a fascinating phenomenon in nuclear physics that states with a pronounced few-body structure can emerge from the complex dynamics of many nucleons. Such halo or cluster states often appear near the boundaries of nuclear stability. As such, they are an important part of the experimental program beginning at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). A concerted effort of theory and experiment is necessary both to analyze experiments involving effective few-body states, as well as to constrain and refine theories of the nuclear force in light of new data from these experiments. As a contribution to exactly this effort, this paper compiles a collection of ``perspectives'' that emerged out of the Topical Program ``Few-body cluster structures in exotic nuclei and their role in FRIB experiments'' that was held at FRIB in August 2022 and brought together theorists and experimentalists working on this topic.

Exploring the $0^-$ bound state with dressed quarks in Minkowski space

The Bethe-Salpeter equation for a pseudoscalar bound-system, with i) a ladder kernel with massive gluons, ii) dynamically-dressed quark mass function and iii) an extended quark-gluon vertex, is solved in Minkowski space by using the Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The quark dressing is implemented through a phenomenological ansatz, which was tuned by lattice QCD calculations of the quark running mass. The latter were also used for assigning the range of the gluon mass and the parameter featuring the extended color density. This framework allows to investigate the gluon dynamics that manifest itself in the quark dressing, quark-gluon vertex and the binding, directly in the physical space. We present the first results for low-density pseudoscalar systems in order to elucidate the onset of the interplay between the above mentioned gluonic phenomena, and we discuss both static and dynamical quantities, like valence longitudinal and transverse distributions.

Tunable properties of excitons in double monolayer semiconductor heterostructures

We studied the exciton properties in double layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with a dielectric spacer between the layers. We developed a method based on an expansion of Chebyshev polynomials to solve the Wannier equation for the exciton. Corrections to the quasiparticle bandgap due to the dielectric environment were also included via the exchange self-energy calculated within a continuum model. We systematically investigated hetero double-layer systems for TMDs with chemical compounds MX2, showing the dependence of the inter- and intralayer excitons binding energies as a function of the spacer width and the dielectric constant. Moreover, we discussed how the exciton energy and its wave function, which includes the effects of the changing bandgap, depend on the geometric system setup.

The chiral limit of a fermion-scalar $(1/2)^+$ system in covariant gauges

The homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) of a (1/2)$^+$ bound system, that has both fermionic and bosonic degrees of freedom, that we call a {\em mock nucleon}, is studied in Minkowski space, in order to analyse the chiral limit in covariant gauges. After adopting an interaction kernel built with a one-particle exchange, the $χ$-BSE is numerically solved by means of the Nakanishi integral representation and light-front projection. Noteworthy, the chiral limit induces a scale-invariance of the model and consequently generates a wealth of striking features: i) it reduces the number of non trivial Nakanishi weight functions to only one; ii) the form of the surviving weight function has a factorized dependence on the two relevant variables, compact and non-compact one; iii) the coupling constant becomes an explicit function of the real exponent governing the power-law fall-off of the non trivial Nakanishi weight function. The thorough investigation at large transverse-momentum of light-front Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, obtained with massive constituents, provides a confirmation of the expected universal power-law fall-off, with exponents predicted by our non-perturbative framework. Finally, one can shed light on the exponents that govern the approach to the upper extremum of the longitudinal-momentum fraction distribution function of the {\em mock nucleon}, when the coupling constant varies.
