Enhancement of anomalous Nernst effect in Ni/Pt superlattice

We report an enhancement of the anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) in Ni/Pt (001) epitaxial superlattices. The transport and magneto-thermoelectric properties were investigated for the Ni/Pt superlattices with various Ni layer thicknesses (${\it t}$). The anomalous Nernst coefficient was increased up to more than 1 $μ$V K$^{-1}$ for 2.0 nm ${\leq}$ ${\it t}$ ${\leq}$ 4.0 nm, which was the remarkable enhancement compared to the bulk Ni. It has been found that the large transverse Peltier coefficient ($α$$_{xy}$), reaching $α$$_{xy}$ = 4.8 A K$^{-1}$ m$^{-1}$ for ${\it t}$ = 4.0 nm, plays a prime role for the enhanced ANE of the Ni/Pt (001) superlattices.

Spin-Hall and Anisotropic Magnetoresistance in Ferrimagnetic Co-Gd / Pt layers

We present the Co-Gd composition dependence of the spin-Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) and anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) for ferrimagnetic Co100-xGdx / Pt bilayers. With Gd concentration x, its magnetic moment increasingly competes with the Co moment in the net magnetization. We find a nearly compensated ferrimagnetic state at x = 24. The AMR changes sign from positive to negative with increasing x, vanishing near the magnetization compensation. On the other hand, the SMR does not vary significantly even where the AMR vanishes. These experimental results indicate that very different scattering mechanisms are responsible for AMR and SMR. We discuss a possible origin for the alloy composition dependence.

Investigation on Mn$_{3-δ}$Ga/MgO interface for magnetic tunneling junctions

The Mn$_3$Ga Heusler compound and related alloys are the most promising materials for the realization of spin-transfer-torque switching in magneto tunneling junctions. Improved performance can be achieved by high quality interfaces in these multilayered structured devices. In this context, the interface between Mn$_{1.63}$Ga and MgO is of particular interest because of its spin polarization properties in tunneling junctions. We performed a chemical characterization of the MgO/Mn$_{1.63}$Ga junction by hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES). The experiment indicated the formation of Ga-O bonds at the interface and evidenced changes in the local environment of Mn atoms in the proximity of the MgO film. In addition, we show that the insertion of a metallic Mg-layer interfacing the MgO and Mn--Ga film strongly suppresses the oxidation of gallium.

Nonlinear emission of spin-wave caustics from an edge mode of a micro-structured Co2Mn0.6Fe0.4Si waveguide

Magnetic Heusler materials with very low Gilbert damping are expected to show novel magnonic transport phenomena. We report nonlinear generation of higher harmonics leading to the emission of caustic spin-wave beams in a low-damping, micro-structured Co2Mn0.6Fe0.4Si Heusler waveguide. The source for the higher harmonic generation is a localized edge mode formed by the strongly inhomogeneous field distribution at the edges of the spin-wave waveguide. The radiation characteristics of the propagating caustic waves observed at twice and three times the excitation frequency are described by an analytical calculation based on the anisotropic dispersion of spin waves in a magnetic thin film.

The CFT-interpolating Black Hole in Three Dimensions

We present a new exact black hole solution in three dimensional Einstein gravity coupled to a single scalar field. This is one of the extended solutions of the BTZ black hole and has in fact $\textrm{AdS}_3$ geometries both at the spatial infinity and at the event horizon. An explicit derivation of Virasoro algebras for $\textrm{CFT}_2$ at the two boundaries is shown to be possible à la Brown and Henneaux's calculation. If we regard the scalar field as a running coupling in the dual two dimensional field theory, and its flow in the bulk as the "holographic" renormalization group flow, our black hole should interpolate the two $\textrm{CFT}_2$ living at the infinity and at the horizon. Following the Hamilton-Jacobi analysis by de Boer, Verlinde and Verlinde, we calculate the central charges $c_{\textrm{UV}}$ and $c_{\textrm{IR}}$ for the $\textrm{CFT}_2$ on the infinity and the horizon, respectively. We also confirm that the inequality $c_{\textrm{IR}} < c_{\textrm{UV}}$ is satisfied, which is consistent with the Zamolodchikov's c-theorem.

Intelligent Unmanned Explorer for Deep Space Exploration

asteroids or comets have received remarkable attention in the world. In small body explorations, especially, detailed in-situ surface exploration by tiny rover is one of effective and fruitful means and is expected to make strong contributions towards scientific studies. JAXA ISAS is promoting MUSES C mission, which is the worlds first sample and return attempt to or from the near earth asteroid. Hayabusa spacecraft in MUSES C mission took the tiny rover, which was expected to perform the in-situ surface exploration by hopping. This paper describes the system design, mobility and intelligence of the developed unmanned explorer. This paper also presents the ground experimental results and the flight results.

Radiative Corrections to Neutrino Reactions off Proton and Deuteron

Radiative corrections are calculated for antineutrino proton quasielastic scattering, neutrino deuteron scattering, and the asymmetry of polarised neutron beta decay from which $G_{A}/G_{V}$ is determined. A particular emphasis is given to the constant parts that are usually absorbed into the coupling constants, and thereby those that appear in the processes that concern us are unambiguously tied among each other.

On the Chiral Quark Soliton Model with Pauli-Villars Regularization

The Pauli-Villars regularization scheme is often used for evaluating parton distributions within the framework of the chiral quark soliton model with inclusion of the vacuum polarization effects. Its simplest version with a single subtraction term should however be taken with some caution, since it does not fully get rid of divergences contained in scalar and psuedoscalar quark densities appearing in the soliton equation of motion. To remedy this shortcoming, we propose here its natural extention, i.e. the Pauli-Villars regularization scheme with multi-subtraction terms. We also carry out a comparative analysis of the Pauli-Villars regularization scheme and more popular proper-time one. It turns out that some isovector observables like the isovector magnetic moment of the nucleon is rather sensitive to the choice of the regularization scheme. In the process of tracing the origin of this sensitivity, a noticeable difference of the two regularization scheme is revealed.

Generalized screening theorem for Higgs decay processes in the two-doublet model

The radiative corrections to the decay processes of the neutral ($CP$-even) Higgs boson ($H$) into a longitudinal gauge boson pair, {\it i.e.}, $H \rightarrow Z_{L}Z_{L}$ and $H \rightarrow W_{L}^{+}W_{L}^{-}$ are analyzed in the two-Higgs doublet model by assuming that all of the Higgs boson masses are much greater than the $W$ and $Z$ bosons'. These calculations are motivated to see if one could see potentially large virtual effects to these decay rates due to the charged and $CP$-odd neutral Higgs boson masses ($m_{G}$ and $m_{A}$, respectively) which are supposed to be larger than $m_{H}$. It is pointed out that, although the radiative corrections to the decay width $Γ(H\rightarrow W_{L}^{+}W_{L}^{-})$ depend sensitively in general on $m_{G}$ and $m_{A}$, there occurs a screening effect, {\it i.e.,} cancellation in leading terms once we set $m_{G}=m_{A}$, so that the radiative corrections tend to be minimized. It is also pointed out that the decay rate $Γ(H\rightarrow Z_{L}Z_{L})$ is fairly insensitive to the other heavier Higgs masses and is possibly a good measuring tool of the Higgs mixing angle. The mechanism of these screening phenomena in the Higgs decays is explained on the basis of a new screening theorem, which we postulate with reference to the custodial symmetry in the Higgs potential.

The Rubakov-Callan Effect and Black Holes

The Rubakov-Callan effect is reexamined by considering the gravitational effects caused by the heavy monopole mass. Assuming that the Higgs vacuum expectation value is as large as (or larger than) the Planck mass, we show that the calculational scheme of Rubakov and Callan may be extended in the presence of curved background field. It is argued that the density of the fermion condensate around a magnetically charged black hole is modified in an intricate way.

Lee-Quigg-Thacker Bounds for Higgs Boson Masses in a Two-Doublet Model

Upper bounds for neutral as well as charged Higgs boson masses in a two-doublet model are obtained on the basis of tree unitarity conditions à la Lee, Quigg and Thacker. A wide variety of scattering processes are considered so extensively that our bounds are more restrictive than those obtained previously for neutral Higgs bosons and are also of a new kind for charged Higgs boson. It is argued that at least one of the Higgs bosons should be lighter than 580 ${\rm GeV}/c^{2}$.
