A pilot study on canonical gravity with mass dimension one fermions

The mass dimension one (MDO) fermionic field is built on a complete set of dual-helicity eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator, which obeys the statistic of Fermi-Dirac. These spinors are a potential candidate for the description of dark matter. The redefinition of the dual structure of this object holds a local adjacent theory and satisfies complete Lorentz invariance. In this work, we investigate important aspects of the interaction of this fermion with gravity in the light of a canonical formulation in ADM formalism. We construct an action via tetrad fields using a manifold on a family of space-like surfaces $Σ_t$ that carries the MDO matter field, and additionally we propose a condition for the action to have a term associated with dark energy. We found the Hamiltonian and diffeomorphism constraints at the classical level for gravitational dynamics with the immersion of this material content in space-time, which leads us to the interpretation of the contribution of dark matter energy density, parallel to the lapse function of foliation and its directional flux of energy density in the hypersurface of manifold.

Cosmological inflation driven by a scalar torsion function

A viable model for inflation driven by a torsion function in a Friedmann background is presented. The scalar spectral index in the interval $0.92\lesssim n_{s}\lesssim 0.97$ is obtained in order to satisfy the initial conditions for inflation. The post inflationary phase is also studied, and the analytical solutions obtained for scale factor and energy density generalizes that ones for a matter dominated universe, indicating just a small deviation from the standard model evolution. The same kind of torsion function used also describes satisfactorily the recent acceleration of the universe, which could indicate a possible unification of different phases, apart form specific constants.

An unified cosmological evolution driven by a mass dimension one fermionic field

An unified cosmological model for an Universe filled with a mass dimension one (MDO) fermionic field plus the standard matter fields is considered. After a primordial quantum fluctuation the field slowly rolls down to the bottom of a symmetry breaking potential, driving the Universe to an inflationary regime that increases the scale factor for about 71 e-folds. After the end of inflation, the field starts to oscillate and can transfer its energy to the standard model particles through a reheating mechanism. Such a process is briefly discussed in terms of the admissible couplings of the MDO field with the electromagnetic and Higgs fields. We show that even if the field loses all its kinetic energy during reheating, it can evolve as dark matter due a gravitational coupling (of spinorial origin) with baryonic matter. Since the field acquires a constant value at the bottom of the potential, a non-null, although tiny, mass term acts as a dark energy component nowadays. Therefore, we conclude that MDO fermionic field is a good candidate to drive the whole evolution of the Universe, in such a way that the inflationary field, dark matter and dark energy are described by different manifestations of a single field.

From inflation to recent cosmic acceleration: The fermionic Elko field driving the evolution of the universe

In this paper we construct the complete evolution of the universe driven by the mass dimension one dark spinor called Elko, starting with inflation, passing by the matter dominated era and finishing with the recent accelerated expansion. The dynamic of the fermionic Elko field with a symmetry breaking type potential can reproduce all phases of the universe in a natural and elegant way. The dynamical equations in general case and slow roll conditions in the limit $H\ll m_{pl}$ are also presented for the Elko system. Numerical analysis for the number of e-foldings during inflation, energy density after inflation and for present time and also the actual size of the universe are in good agreement with the standard model of cosmology. An interpretation of the inflationary phase as a result of Pauli exclusion principle is also possible if the Elko field is treated as an average value of its quantum analogue.
