Lattice calculation of gluon screening masses

We study SU(3) gluon electric and magnetic masses at finite temperatures using quenched lattice QCD on a $20^2 \times 32 \times 6$ lattice. We focus on temperature regions between $T=T_c$ and $6T_c$, which are realized in BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and CERN Large Hadron Collider experiments. Stochastic quantization with a gauge-fixing term is employed to calculate gluon propagators. The temperature dependence of the electric mass is found to be consistent with the hard-thermal-loop perturbation, and the magnetic mass has finite values in the temperature region of interest. Both screening masses have little gauge parameter dependence. The behavior of the gluon propagators is very different in confinement/deconfinement physics. The short distance magnetic part behaves like a confined propagator even in the deconfinement phase. A simulation with a larger lattice, $32^2 \times 48 \times 6 $, shows that the magnetic mass has a stronger finite size effect than the electric mass.

NMR characterization of spin-1/2 alternating antiferromagnetic chains in the high-pressure phase of (VO)2P2O7

Local-susceptibility measurements via the NMR shifts of $^{31}$P and $^{51}$V nuclei in the high-pressure phase of (VO)$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{7}$ confirmed the existence of a unique alternating antiferromagnetic chain with a zero-field spin gap of 34 K. The $^{31}$P nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate scales with the uniform spin susceptibility below about 15 K which shows that the temperature dependence of both the static and dynamical spin susceptibilities becomes identical at temperatures not far below the spin-gap energy.

Screening of hot gluon

We calculate electric and magnetic masses of gluons between T = T_c and 6T_c using lattice QCD (quantum chromodynamics) in the quench approximation. We find that magnetic mass has finite values in this region, and the temperature dependence of the electric mass is consistent with that determined using the hard-thermal-loop perturbation. The hard-thermal-loop resummation improves significantly the magnitude of the electric mass comparing to the leading order perturbation. Both screening masses have little gauge dependence.

The additivity of the pseudo-additive conditional entropy for a proper Tsallis' entropic index

For Tsallis' entropic analysis to the time evolutions of standard logistic map at the Feigenbaum critical point, it is known that there exists a unique value $q^*$ of the entropic index such that the asymptotic rate $K_q \equiv \lim_{t \to \infty} \{S_q(t)-S_q(0)\} / t$ of increase in $S_q(t)$ remains finite whereas $K_q$ vanishes (diverges) for $q > q^* (q < q^*)$. We show that in spite of the associated whole time evolution cannot be factorized into a product of independent sub-interval time evolutions, the pseudo-additive conditional entropy $S_q(t|0) \equiv \{S_q(t)-S_q(0)\}/ \{1+(1-q)S_q(0)\}$ becomes additive when $q=q^*$. The connection between $K_{q^*}$ and the rate $K'_{q^*} \equiv S_{q^*}(t | 0) / t$ of increase in the conditional entropy is discussed.

Improved Gauge Actions on Anisotropic Lattices I

On anisotropic lattices with the anisotropy $ξ=a_σ/a_τ$ the following basic parameters are calculated by perturbative method: (1) the renormalization of the gauge coupling in spatial and temporal directions, $g_σ$ and $g_τ$, (2) the $Λ$ parameter, (3) the ratio of the renormalized and bare anisotropy $η=ξ/ξ_B$ and (4) the derivatives of the coupling constants with respect to $ξ$, $\partial g_σ^{-2}/\partial ξ$ and $\partial g_τ^{-2}/\partial ξ$. We employ the improved gauge actions which consist of plaquette and six-link rectangular loops, $c_0 P(1 \times 1)_{μν} + c_1 P(1 \times 2)_{μν}$. This class of actions covers Symanzik, Iwasaki and DBW2 actions. The ratio $η$ shows an impressive behavior as a function of $c_{1}$, i.e.,$η>1$ for the standard Wilson and Symanzik actions, while $η<1$ for Iwasaki and DBW2 actions. This is confirmed non-perturbatively by numerical simulations in weak coupling regions. The derivatives $\partial g^{-2}_τ/\partial ξ$ and $\partial g^{-2}_σ/\partial ξ$ also changes sign as $-c_{1}$ increases. For Iwasaki and DBW2 actions they become opposite sign to those for standard and Symanzik actions. However, their sum is independent of the type of actions due to Karsch's sum rule.

Modeling of the Magnetic Susceptibilities of the Ambient- and High-Pressure Phases of (VO)_{2}P_{2}O_{7}

The magnetic susceptibilities chi versus temperature T of powders and single crystals of the ambient-pressure (AP) and high-pressure (HP) phases of (VO)_{2}P_{2}O_{7} are analyzed using an accurate theoretical prediction of chi(T, J1, J2) for the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic alternating-exchange (J1, J2) Heisenberg chain. The results are consistent with recent models with two distinct types of alternating-exchange chains in the AP phase and a single type in the HP phase. The spin gap for each type of chain is derived from the respective set of two fitted alternating exchange constants and the one-magnon dispersion relation for each of the two types of chains in the AP phase is predicted. The influences of interchain coupling on the derived intrachain exchange constants, spin gaps, and dispersion relations are estimated using a mean-field approximation for the interchain coupling. The accuracies of the spin gaps obtained using fits to the low-T chi(T) data by theoretical low-T approximations are determined. The results of these studies are compared with previously reported estimates of the exchange couplings and spin gaps in the AP and HP phases and with the magnon dispersion relations in the AP phase measured previously using inelastic neutron scattering.

Left-Right Symmetric Model from Geometrical Formulation of Gauge Theory in $M_4 \times Z_2 \times Z_2$

The left-right symmetric model (LRSM) with gauge group $SU(2)_{L} \times SU(2)_{R} \times U(1)_{B-L}$ is reconstructed from the geometric formulation of gauge theory in $M_4 \times Z_2 \times Z_2$ where $M_4$ is the four-dimensional Minkowski space and $Z_2 \times Z_2$ the discrete space with four points. The geometrical structure of this model becomes clearer compared with other works based on noncommutative geometry. As a result, the Yukawa coupling terms and the Higgs potential are derived in more restricted forms than in the standard LRSM.
