Helium Nuclei in Quenched Lattice QCD

We present results for the binding energies for He and ^3He nuclei calculated in quenched lattice QCD at the lattice spacing of a = 0.128 fm with a heavy quark mass corresponding to m_pi = 0.8 GeV. Enormous computational cost for the nucleus correlation functions is reduced by avoiding redundancy of equivalent contractions stemming from permutation symmetry of protons or neutrons in the nucleus and various other symmetries. To distinguish a bound state from an attractive scattering state, we investigate the volume dependence of the energy difference between the nucleus and the free multi-nucleon states by changing the spatial extent of the lattice from 3.1 fm to 12.3 fm. A finite energy difference left in the infinite spatial volume limit leads to the conclusion that the measured ground states are bounded. It is also encouraging that the measured binding energies and the experimental ones show the same order of magnitude.

On-shell Delta I = 3/2 kaon weak matrix elements with non-zero total momentum

We present our results for the on-shell Delta I = 3/2 kaon decay matrix elements using domain wall fermions and the DBW2 gauge action at one coarse lattice spacing corresponding to 1/a = 1.31 GeV in the quenched approximation. The on-shell matrix elements are evaluated in two different frames: the center-of-mass frame and non-zero total-momentum frame. We employ the formula proposed by Lellouch and Lüscher in the center-of-mass frame, and its extension for non-zero total momentum frame to extract the infinite volume, on-shell, center-of-mass frame decay amplitudes. We determine the decay amplitude at the physical pion mass and momentum from the chiral extrapolation and an interpolation of the relative momentum using the results calculated in the two frames. We have obtained Re(A_2) = 1.66(23)(^{+48}_{-03})(^{+53}_{-0}) x 10^{-8} GeV and Im(A_2) = -1.181(26)(^{+141}_{-014})(^{+44}_{-0}) x 10^{-12} GeV at the physical point, using the data at the relatively large pion mass, m_pi > 0.35 GeV. The first error is statistic, and the second and third are systematic. The second error is estimated with several fits of the chiral extrapolation including (quenched) chiral perturbation formula at next to leading order using only lighter pion masses. The third one is estimated with an analysis using the lattice dispersion relation. The result of Re(A_2) is reasonably consistent with experiment.

Measurement of the in-medium K0 inclusive cross section in pi- -induced reactions at 1.15 GeV/c

The K0 meson production by pi- mesons of 1.15 GeV/c momentum on C, Al, Cu, Sn and Pb nuclear targets was measured with the FOPI spectrometer at the SIS accelerator of GSI. Inclusive production cross-sections and the momentum distributions of K0 mesons are compared to scaled elementary production cross-sections and to predictions of theoretical models describing the in-medium production of kaons. The data represent a new reference for those models, which are widely used for interpretation of the strangeness-production in heavy-ion collisions. The presented results demonstrate the sensitivity of the kaon production to the reaction amplitudes inside nuclei and point to the existence of a repulsive KN-potential of 20+-5 MeV at normal nuclear matter density.

75As NMR Study of Hole-Doped Superconductor Ba1-xKxFe2As2 (Tc = 38K)

We report the 75As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement of the hole-doped superconductor Ba1-xKxFe2As2 with different lattice parameters and different superconducting volume fractions (Tc = 38K). 75As-NMR spectra revealed that the magnetically ordered and superconducting phases are microscopically separated. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 in the normal state reflects the existence of a large two-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation. The 1/T1 in the superconducting state down to the lowest measurement temperature T varies close to T^3. In addition, it exhibits no coherence peak just below Tc. This shows a T dependence similar to those of other iron pnictides.

First exclusive measurements of the K^-pp state - populated in the pp to K^+ Lambda p reaction at 2.85 GeV

We have analyzed data of the DISTO experiment on the exclusive pp to K^+ Lambda p process at T_p = 2.85$ GeV to search for a K^-pp (= X) nuclear bound state to be formed in the pp to K^+ + X reaction. The deviation spectra of the K^+ missing-mass MM (K^+) and Lambda p invariant-mass M(Lambda-p) with selection of large-angle proton emission revealed a structure with M_X = 2265 +- 2 MeV/c2 and Gamma_X = 118 +- 8$ MeV.

Suppression of Magnetic Order by Pressure in BaFe2As2

We performed the dc resistivity and the ZF 75As-NMR measurement of BaFe2As2 under high pressure. The T-P phase diagram of BaFe2As2 determined from resistivity anomalies and the ZF 75As-NMR clearly revealed that the SDW anomaly is quite robust against P.

75As NMR study of the ternary iron arsenide BaFe2As2

We report 75As-NMR measurements of the ternary iron arsenide BaFe2As2. 75As-NMR spectra clearly revealed that magnetic transition occurs at around 131 K in our samples, which corresponds to the emergence of spin density wave. Temperature dependence of the internal magnetic field suggests that the transition is likely of the first order. The critical-slowing-down phenomenon in the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 is not pronounced in this material.

Nucleon axial charge in 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD with domain wall fermions

We present results for the nucleon axial charge g_A at a fixed lattice spacing of 1/a=1.73(3) GeV using 2+1 flavors of domain wall fermions on size 16^3x32 and 24^3x64lattices (L=1.8 and 2.7 fm) with length 16 in the fifth dimension. The length of the Monte Carlo trajectory at the lightest m_πis 7360 units, including 900 for thermalization. We find finite volume effects are larger than the pion mass dependence at m_π= 330 MeV. We also find that g_A exhibits a scaling with the single variable m_πL which can also be seen in previous two-flavor domain wall and Wilson fermion calculati ons. Using this scaling to eliminate the finite-volume effect, we obtain g_A = 1.20(6)(4) at the physical pion mass, m_π= 135 MeV, where the first and second errors are statistical and systematic. The observed finite-volume scaling also appears in similar quenched simulations, but disappear when V\ge (2.4 fm)^3. We argue this is a dynamical quark effect.

Kaonic Nuclear Systems KbarN and KbarNN as Decaying States

The formation spectra of model KbarN and KbarNN systems formed by (K-, n) reactions are investigated in order to obtain a theoretical basis for a proper interpretation of experimental data concerning kaonic nuclear quasi-bound states. It has been clarified that the experimentally observable kaonic nuclear state K-pp should be regarded as the decaying state introduced by Kapur-Peierls, which is different from the pole state solution of the Faddeev equation.

Physical Results from 2+1 Flavor Domain Wall QCD and SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory

We have simulated QCD using 2+1 flavors of domain wall quarks on a $(2.74 {\rm fm})^3$ volume with an inverse lattice scale of $a^{-1} = 1.729(28)$ GeV. The up and down (light) quarks are degenerate in our calculations and we have used four values for the ratio of light quark masses to the strange (heavy) quark mass in our simulations: 0.217, 0.350, 0.617 and 0.884. We have measured pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants, the kaon bag parameter $B_K$ and vector meson couplings. We have used SU(2) chiral perturbation theory, which assumes only the up and down quark masses are small, and SU(3) chiral perturbation theory to extrapolate to the physical values for the light quark masses. While next-to-leading order formulae from both approaches fit our data for light quarks, we find the higher order corrections for SU(3) very large, making such fits unreliable. We also find that SU(3) does not fit our data when the quark masses are near the physical strange quark mass. Thus, we rely on SU(2) chiral perturbation theory for accurate results. We use the masses of the $Ω$ baryon, and the $π$ and $K$ mesons to set the lattice scale and determine the quark masses. We then find $f_π= 124.1(3.6)_{\rm stat}(6.9)_{\rm syst} {\rm MeV}$, $f_K = 149.6(3.6)_{\rm stat}(6.3)_{\rm syst} {\rm MeV}$ and $f_K/f_π= 1.205(0.018)_{\rm stat}(0.062)_{\rm syst}$. Using non-perturbative renormalization to relate lattice regularized quark masses to RI-MOM masses, and perturbation theory to relate these to $\bar{\rm MS}$ we find $ m_{ud}^{\bar{\rm MS}}(2 {\rm GeV}) = 3.72(0.16)_{\rm stat}(0.33)_{\rm ren}(0.18)_{\rm syst} {\rm MeV}$ and $m_{s}^{\bar{\rm MS}}(2 {\rm GeV}) = 107.3(4.4)_{\rm stat}(9.7)_{\rm ren}(4.9)_{\rm syst} {\rm MeV}$.

$Λd$ correlations from the $^4$He(stopped-$K^-$,$d$) reaction

We have observed an intense high-energy component in an inclusive $^4$He(stopped $K^-$, $d$) spectrum. For back-to-back $Λd$ pairs a prominent event cluster has been found just below the $m_{^4\textrm{He}}+m_{K^-}-m_{n}$ mass threshold in the $Λd$ invariant mass spectrum of $Λdn$ events, which is evidence for a three-nucleon absorption process of $K^-$ in $^4$He. In addition, an appreciable strength is revealed below $\sim$3220 MeV/$c^2$. Well separated $Σ^0 dn$ events show a peak similar to the case of $Λdn$.

$ΛN$ correlations from the stopped $K^-$ reaction on ${}^4$He

We have investigated correlations of coincident $ΛN$ pairs from the stopped $K^-$ reaction on ${}^4$He, and clearly observed $Λp$ and $Λn$ branches of the two-nucleon absorption process in the $ΛN$ invariant mass spectra. In addition, non-mesonic reaction channels, which indicate possible exotic signals for the formation of strange multibaryon states, have been identified.

2+1 flavor domain wall QCD on a (2 fm)^3 lattice: light meson spectroscopy with Ls = 16

We present results for light meson masses and pseudoscalar decay constants from the first of a series of lattice calculations with 2+1 dynamical flavors of domain wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action. The work reported here was done at a fixed lattice spacing of about 0.12 fm on a 16^3\times32 lattice, which amounts to a spatial volume of (2 fm)^3 in physical units. The number of sites in the fifth dimension is 16, which gives m_{res} = 0.00308(4) in these simulations. Three values of input light sea quark masses, m_l^{sea} \approx 0.85 m_s, 0.59 m_s and 0.33 m_s were used to allow for extrapolations to the physical light quark limit, whilst the heavier sea quark mass was fixed to approximately the physical strange quark mass m_s. The exact rational hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm was used to evaluate the fractional powers of the fermion determinants in the ensemble generation. We have found that f_π= 127(4) MeV, f_K = 157(5) MeV and f_K/f_π= 1.24(2), where the errors are statistical only, which are in good agreement with the experimental values.

Search for strange tribaryon states in the inclusive ^4He(K^{-}_{stopped}, p) reaction

A search for tribaryon states was performed at KEK-PS. We adopted the $^4$He($K^-_{stopped}, p)$ reaction to populate the states with strangeness -1, charge 0 and isospin 1. No significant narrow structure was observed in the mass region from 3000 to 3200 MeV/c^2 in an inclusive missing mass spectrum. The upper limit of the formation branching ratio was determined to be ($1\sim3)\times 10^{-4}$, ($0.7\sim2)\times 10^{-3}$ and ($2\sim8) \times 10^{-3}$/($stopped K^{-}$) with 95 % confidence level for narrow states with an assumed width of 0, 20 and 40 MeV/c^2, respectively.

Precision measurement of the $3d \to 2p$ x-ray energy in kaonic $^4$He

We have measured the Balmer-series x-rays of kaonic $^4$He atoms using novel large-area silicon drift x-ray detectors in order to study the low-energy $\bar{K}$-nucleus strong interaction. The energy of the $3d \to 2p$ transition was determined to be 6467 $\pm$ 3 (stat) $\pm$ 2 (syst) eV. The resulting strong-interaction energy-level shift is in agreement with theoretical calculations, thus eliminating a long-standing discrepancy between theory and experiment.

Search for a kaonic nuclear state via $^4$He$(K^-, N)$

Very recently, we have performed a couple of experiments, {\it{KEK PS-E549/E570}}, for the detailed study of the strange tribaryon $S^0(3115)$ obtained in {\it{KEK PS-E471}}. These experiments were performed to accumulate much higher statistics with improved experimental apparatusespecially for the better proton spectroscopy of the $^4$He({\it{stopped K}}$^-$, {\it{N}}) reaction. In contrast to the previous proton spectrum, no narrow ($\sim$ 20 MeV) peak structure was found either in the inclusive $^4$He({\it{stopped K}}$^-$, {\it{p}}) or in the semi-inclusive $^4$He({\it{stopped K}}$^-$, {\it{p}}$X^\pm$) reaction channel, which is equivalent to the previous $E471$ event trigger condition. Detailed analysis of the present data and simulation shows that the peak, corresponding to $S^0(3115)$, has been an experimental artifact. Present analysis does not exclude the possible existence of a much wider structure. To be sensitive to such structure and for better understanding of the non-mesonic $K^-$ absorption reaction channel, detailed analysis of the data is in progress.

Calculation of $ΔI = 3/2$ kaon weak matrix elements including two-pion interaction effects in finite volume

We calculate $ΔI = 3/2$ kaon decay matrix elements using domain wall fermions and the DBW2 gauge action at one coarse lattice spacing corresponding to $a^{-1} = 1.3$ GeV. We employ the Lellouch and Lüscher formula and its extention for non-zero total momentum to extract the infinite volume, center-of-mass frame decay amplitudes. The decay amplitudes obtained from the methods correspond to those from the indirect method with full order chiral perturbation theory. We confirm that the result is consistent with the previous result calculated with H-parity (anti-periodic) boundary condition by investigating the relative momentum dependence. We evaluate the decay amplitude Re$A_2$ at the physical point by a chiral extrapolation with a polynomial function of $m_π^2$ and the relative momentum as well as the Delta I = 3/2 electroweak penguin contributions to $ε^\prime / ε$. We found that the result of Re$A_2$ reasonably agrees with the experiment.

Josephson lattice structure in mesoscopic intrinsic Josephson junctions by means of flux-flow resistance in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$

Dynamical nature of the Josephson vortex (JV) system in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi2212) has been investigated in the presence of the c-axis current with magnetic field alignments very close to the $ab$-plane. As a function of magnetic fields, the c-axis JV flux flow resistance oscillates periodically in accordance with the proposed JV triangular structure. We observe that this oscillating period becomes doubled above a certain field, indicating the structure transition from triangle to square structure. This transition field becomes lower in junctions with smaller width perpendicular to the external field. We interpret that this phenomena as the effect of the edge deformation of the JV lattice due to surface current of intrinsic Josephson junctions as pointed by Koshelev.
