Long-Slit Spectroscopy Of Herbig-Haro Outflow System, Associated With IRAS 01166+6635

We present long-slit spectroscopic observations of the outflow associated with an infrared source IRAS 01166+6635, conducted with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory using the SCORPIO-2 focal reducer. The structure of the flow as investigated in detail, its position-velocity diagrams are constructed. The electron densities of the several knots in the outflow were estimated, revealing a decrease in its density with increasing distance from the driving source.

Optical Spectroscopy of the IR Source CPM 19 and Surrounding Objects

Optical spectra of the well-known infrared source CPM~19, which exhibited a strong decline in brightness during the period from 1984--1987 to 2000--2005, have been obtained for the first time. A strong and broad H$\alpha$ emission line has been detected, along with the possible presence of [S II] emission. No traces of an absorption spectrum are observed. It is suggested that the optical component of CPM 19 is in the pre-main-sequence stage. Various explanations of the observed properties are considered; a plausible scenario is that CPM 19 may belong to the class of UX Ori-type stars with an unusually long eclipse duration, similar to that observed in V1184 Tau. Spectra of other nebulous objects in the vicinity of CPM 19, including the HH objects HH 940 and HH 941, have also been obtained and discussed.

Complex investigations of an active star-formation region in southern part of Mon R2

We continue to present the results of a Byurakan Narrow Band Imaging Survey (BNBIS). In this work we present the results of the search and further detailed investigation of the objects, found in the course of the BNBIS survey in the southern part of the Mon R2 association. For the search of HH objects the narrow band images, obtained with the 1-m Schmidt telescope of the Byurakan Observatory, were used. Newly found objects were imaged in optical and near-IR range with the Apache Point Observatory 3.5 meter telescope, and observed spectrally with long-slit spectrograph and scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer on 6 m telescope of Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences using SCORPIO-2. We found three new HH groups: HH 1233, HH 1234 and HH 1235, two of them represent extended collimated flows. HH 1233 is the C-shape bipolar outflow system associated with the 2MASS 06084223$-$0657385 source star. HH 1234 is the helical chain of HH knots near the star V963 Mon. HH 1235 is a separate compact knot, connected with the visible only in mid- and far-IR source WISE J060856.57$-$070103.5. We found also several molecular hydrogen outflows, one of which coincides with HH 1233 and two other are associated with the deeply embedded IR sources in the same field. One more probable bipolar H$_2$ outflow is related to WISE J060856.57$-$070103.5. The emission spectra and spectral energy distributions of the source stars were analyzed. According to them they should be under rather early evolutional stage.

Two epoch spectra-imagery of PV Cep outflow system

We continue to study the structure and kinematics of HH flows. Herbig-Haro (HH) flows exhibit large variety of morphological and kinematical structures. Both proper motion (PM) and radial velocity investigations are essential to understand the physical nature of such structures. We investigate the kinematics and PM of spectrally separated structures in the PV Cep HH flow HH 215. We present the observational results obtained with a 6 m telescope (Russia) using the SCORPIO multi-mode focal reducer with scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. Two epochs of the observations of the PV Cep region in H$\alpha$ and [SII] emission (2003 and 2020-2021) allowed us to study the morphology of HH 215 jet in detail and to measure the PM and the radial velocities for its inner structures. Already known emission knots in the HH 215 flow and new features were studied. Moreover, a newly-formed HH knot was revealed, presumably formed during the large maximum of PV Cep star in 1976-1977. We found the high-velocity inner channel in the HH 215 ionized outflow, oriented accordingly to the mean direction of the whole HH outflow and the axis of the symmetry of the reflection nebula. The HH-knots located along the axis of the high-velocity channel have a position angle coinciding with its axis (abut 325$^{\circ}$), however other ones have completely different value (about 25$^{\circ}$), which supports the idea that those knots are formed by oblique shocks. We derived the value of i $\approx$ 30$^{\circ}$$\pm$ 5$^{\circ}$ for the inclination angle between the flow axis and the line of sight. The total length of HH 215 outflow should be about 0.2 pc, and the full length of the bipolar outflow from PV Cep (HH 315 + HH 215) can be estimated as 3.6 pc, assuming that it more or less keeps the same inclination angle.

New Herbig-Haro Objects associated with Embedded Sources

We continue to present the results of the Byurakan Narrow Band Imaging Survey (BNBIS). The main goal of this survey is to search for Herbig-Haro (HH) objects and jets in Galactic dark clouds. In this work we present the results of the search in the vicinity of infrared sources that are bright in the WISE survey and embedded in the dark clouds. The survey is performed with the 1 m Schmidt telescope of Byurakan Observatory, lately equipped with a new CCD detector, which allows to obtain one square degree images of the sky in various filters. Narrow-band filters were used to obtain Halpha and [S II] images, and a medium-width filter was used for the continuum imaging. New HH flows and knots were found near six embedded IR sources, which constitutes a significant proportion of the objects observed. At least two of the newly found HH flows (HH 1226 and HH 1227) lie in isolated dark clouds, thus pointing to active star formation in these regions. Other flows are also located in detached and dense globules or filaments. The length of the HH 1228 flow is about 1 pc; it has also a molecular hydrogen counterpart of the same extension. Coordinates, charts, detailed descriptions and distance estimates are provided. The lower limits of bolometric luminosities of the source stars are typical for low-mass young stellar objects.

The star in RNO 54 -- a post-FUor with short faint jet?

The aim of the present study was the spectral analysis of an unusual pre-main-sequence star in the cometary nebula RNO 54, which was suspected by several researchers as a FUori-like object. We performed long-slit spectroscopy of the star on the 6-m telescope with the SCORPIO-2 multi-mode focal reducer. We discover a short ($\sim4$ arcsec or $\sim6000$ AU) and faint emission shock-excited jet from this star, probably oriented toward the long axis of the nebular ellipse. The spectral type of the star is estimated as G0-2 II; the split of absorption Li I line which is a typical sign indicating the FUori-like spectrum, is confirmed. The analysis of the available data shows virtual absence of the photometric variability, for at least the last 20 years. The lower limit of the bolometric luminosity of the star is estimated as 300 Lsun. Our study supports the classification of RNO 54 star as a FUor-like object in the long-after-outburst stage.

Herbig-Haro Flows and Young Stars in the Dobashi 5006 Dark Cloud

Two new Herbig-Haro flows were found in a study of the isolated Dobashi 5006 dark cloud (l$= 216^\circ.7$, b= $-$13$^\circ.9$): one certain (HH 1179) and one presumable, associated with the infrared sources 2MASS 06082284$-$0936139 and 2MASS 06081525$-$0933490, correspondingly. Judging from their spectral energy distributions, these sources may be Class 1 objects with luminosities of order 23 $L_{\odot}$ and 3.6 $L_{\odot}$ , respectively. They are part of the poor star cluster MWSC 0739, study of which based on data from the Gaia DR3 survey has made it possible to detect 17 stars which are probably members of it. A list of them and their main parameters is given. The distance of the cluster is estimated to be 820 pc and the color excess on the path to the cluster is E(BP-RP) $\approx$1.05 mag. All of these stars are PMS-objects and most of them are optically variable. It is concluded that the newly discovered compact star-formation zone in the Dobashi 5006 cloud has an age of no more than a few million years and this process continues up to the present time.

FUors, EXors and the role of intermediate objects

The studies of FUors, EXors and other young eruptive stars are very important for the understanding of the earliest stages of pre-main-sequence evolution. We describe the current situation in this field. Near-infrared detection of H$_2$ flows in the core of Mon R1 association

We report the discovery of 4 new H$_2$ jets in Mon R1 star-forming region on the images obtained with the 2.5-m telescope of the Caucasian Mountain Observatory of SAI MSU through the filter, centered on the H$_2$ 1-0 S(1) emission line. This discovery confirms the nature of these flows, which existence was previously suspected using archival Spitzer GLIMPSE360 and WISE survey images. Also two infrared reflection nebulae were revealed. On the Herschel PACS survey images we found a small group of far-infrared sources, mostly unknown ones. Among them are the possible exciting objects of these outflows. Spectral energy distributions of new sources show their extremely red colour and the bolometric luminosities reaching 3 L$_{sun}$ and even 10 L$_{sun}$. They should be PMS objects at the very early evolutionary stages.

PV Cep and V350 Cep: stars on the way between FUors AND EXors

Based on new observations during 2015-2020 and published data, the unusual eruptive variables PV Cep and V350 Cep are examined. It is shown that PV Cep underwent a regular outburst followed by a drop in brightness that lasted overall from 2011 to 2019 and is still in a deep minimum. The outburst was accompanied by substantial changes in the intensity and profiles of a number of lines, including Ha, [SII], and [OI]. The forbidden lines generally have negative radial velocities and can be divided into four components, with variable velocities and relative intensities. V350 Cep essentially is at a maximum brightness level over the entire time and its spectrum is practically unaltered. The available data suggest that the pronounced P Cyg profile of the Ha line in the spectrum of V350 Cep appeared several years after the luminosity rise, in 1986. The luminosities of the stars in the current state are estimated to be 20 L(sun) and 3.3 L(sun), respectively. It is concluded that both stars may represent a so-called intermediate objects between the FUor and EXor classes.

Proper motions of spectrally selected structures in the HH 83 outflow

We continue our program of investigation of the proper motions of spectrally separated structures in the Herbig-Haro outflows with the aid of Fabry-Perot scanning interferometry. This work mainly focuses on the physical nature of various structures in the jets. The aim of the present study is to measure the proper motions of the previously discovered kinematically separated structures in the working surface of the HH 83 collimated outflow. We used observations from two epochs separated by 15 years, which were performed on the 6m telescope with Fabry-Perot scanning interferometer. We obtained images corresponding to different radial velocities for the two separate epochs, and used them to measure proper motions. In the course of our data analysis, we discovered a counter bow-shock of HH 83 flow with positive radial velocity, which makes this flow a relatively symmetric bipolar system. The second epoch observations confirm that the working surface of the flow is split into two structures with an exceptionally large (250 km\ s$^{-1}$) difference in radial velocity. The proper motions of these structures are almost equal, which suggests that they are physically connected. The asymmetry of the bow shock and the turning of proper motion vectors suggests a collision between the outflow and a dense cloud. The profile of the H$α$ line for the directly invisible infrared source HH 83 IRS, obtained by integration of the data within the reflection nebula, suggests it to be of P Cyg type with a broad absorption component characteristic of the FU Ori like objects. If this object underwent an FU Ori type outburst, which created the HH 83 working surfaces, its eruption took place about 1500 years ago according to the kinematical age of the outflow.

New Herbig-Haro objects and outflows in Mon R1 association

We present results of the narrow-band Halpha and [SII] imaging survey of Mon R1 association, performed with the 1 m Schmidt telescope of the Byurakan Observatory. Our observations covered one degree field near the center of the association. As a result of this study twenty new Herbig-Haro knots were discovered, some of which form collimated outflows. Among the most extended ones are HH 1203 and HH 1196, which have a length near one parsec or even more. In the course of search for the probable sources of HH objects several new nebulous stars were found. A list of all nebulous stellar objects in the Mon R1 area under study is presented, with the detailed description of most interesting objects. The near infrared data from the GLIMPSE360 and WISE surveys allowed to find several more objects, related to Mon R1, some of them with optical counterparts, as well as to outline at least three probable H_2 collimated flows from the deeply embedded pre-main-sequence objects. The probable members of Mon R1 were selected by their distances, their bolometric luminosities and extinctions were estimated. Among the outflow sources three embedded objects with luminosities greater than 10 L(sun) were found. The mean distance to Mon R1 complex is estimated as 715 pc.

Herbig-Haro flows around BBWo 192E (GM 1-23) nebula

We studied a small comet-shape reflection nebula, located in the dark cloud SL 4 in the Vela Molecular Ridge cloud C, known as BBWo 192E (GM 1-23), and a young infrared cluster embedded into the nebula, for the evidences of recent star formation. We obtained the images of BBWo 192E in Halpha and [SII] lines and in SDSS i' with Blanco telescope at the Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory to discover new Herbig-Haro (HH) flows. 2MASS and WISE surveys were used for the search of the additional member stars of the cluster. We also studied proper motions and parallaxes of the cluster members with the aid of GAIA DR2. Five new groups containing at least 9 HH objects tracing several distinct outflows were revealed. A previously unreported reflection nebula and a number of probable outflow sources were found in the infrared range. The proper motions allowed selecting eight probable member stars in the visual range. Their parallaxes correspond to a mean distance 800 +/- 100 pc for this cluster. The bolometric luminosities of the brightest cluster members are 1010 L(sun) (IRAS 08513-4201,the strong source in the center of the cluster) and 2 to 6 L(sun) for the five other stars. The existence of the optical HH flows around the infrared cluster of YSOs suggests that star formation in this cloud is on-going around the more massive HAeBe star. By its morphology and other features this star-forming region is similar to the zone of star formation near CPM 19.

Two epoch spectro-imagery of FS Tau B outflow system

Herbig-Haro (HH) flows exhibit a large variety of morphological and kinematical structures such as bow shocks, Mach disks, and deflection shocks. Both proper motion (PM) and radial velocity investigations are essential to understand the physical nature of such structures. We investigate the kinematics and PM of spectrally separated structures in the FS~Tau~B HH flow. Collating these data makes it possible to understand the origin of these structures and to explain the unusual behavior of the jet. On the other hand, the study of emission profiles in the associated reflection nebulae allows us to consider the source of the outflow both from edge-on and pole-on points of view. We present the observational results obtained with the 6 m telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences using the SCORPIO multimode focal reducer with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. Two epochs of the observations of the FS~Tau~B region in H$α$ emission (2001 and 2012) allowed us to measure the PM of the spectrally separated inner structures of the jet. In addition to already known emission structures in the FS~Tau~B system, we discover new features in the extended part of the jet and in the counter-jet. Moreover, we reveal a new HH knot in the HH~276 independent outflow system and point out its presumable source. In the terminal working surface of the jet, structures with different radial velocities have PMs of the same value. This result can be interpreted as the direct observation of bow-shock and Mach disk regions. A bar-like structure, located southwest from the source demonstrates zero PM and can be considered as one more example of deflection shock. An analysis of H$α$ profiles in the reflection nebulae R1 and R3 indicates the uniqueness of this object, which can be studied in pole-on and edge-on directions simultaneously.

New powerful outburst of the unusual young star V1318 Cyg S (LkHα 225)

Young double star V1318 Cyg, which is associated with a small isolated star-forming region around HAeBe star BD+40o4124, has very unusual photometric and spectral behavior. We present results of photometric and spectroscopic observations in the optical range. We carried out BVRI CCD photometric observations of V1318 Cyg from 2015 Sept. to 2017 July. For the same period we acquired medium- and low-resolution spectra. Observations were performed with the 2.6 m telescope. We analyze the historical light curve for V1318 Cyg and demonstrate that the southern component, V1318 Cyg S, after being rather bright in the 1970s (V$\approx$14 mag) started to lower its brightness and in 1990 became practically invisible in the optical. After its reappearance in the second half of the 1990s the star started to become very slowly brighter. Between 2006 and 2010 V1318 Cyg S started brightening more quickly, and in 2015 had become brighter by more than five magnitudes in visible light. Since this time V1318 Cyg S has remained at this maximum. Its spectrum shows little variability and consists of a mixture of emission and absorption lines, which has allowed for estimates of its spectral type as early Ae, with obvious evidence of matter outflow. We derive its current A(V)$\approx$ 7.2 and L = 750 L(sun) thus confirming that V1318 Cyg S should belong to the Herbig Ae stars, making it, along with BD+40o4124 and V1686 Cyg, the third luminous young star in the group. It is very probable that we observe V1318 Cyg S near the pole and that the inclination of its dense and slow ($\approx$ 100 km/s) outflow is low. The unusual variability and other features of V1318 Cyg S make it difficult to classify this star among known types of eruptive young stars. It could be an extreme, higher-mass example of an EXor, or an object of intermediate class between EXors and FUors, like V1647 Ori.

A new star-forming region in Canis Major

A new southern star-formation region, located at an estimated distance of ~1.5 kpc in the Lynds 1664 dark cloud in Canis Major, is described. Lynds 1664 contains several compact star clusters, small stellar groups, and young stars associated with reflection nebulae. Narrow-band Hα and [SII] images obtained with 4-m CTIO telescope reveal more than 20 new Herbig-Haro objects associated with several protostellar outflows.

A Wide-Field Near-Ir H2 2.122$μ$m line survey of the Braid Nebula Star Formation Region in Cygnus OB7

Context. Outflows and jets are the first signposts of ongoing star formation processes in any molecular cloud, yet their study in optical bands provides limited results due to the large extinction present. Near-infrared unbiased wide-field observations in the H2 1-0 S(1) line at 2.122μm alleviates the problem, enabling us to detect more outflows and trace them closer to their driving sources. Aims. As part of a large-scale multi-waveband study of ongoing star formation in the Braid Nebula Star Formation region, we focus on a one square degree region that includes Lynds Dark Nebula 1003 and 1004. Our goal is to find all of the near-infrared outflows, uncover their driving sources and estimate their evolutionary phase. Methods. We use near-infrared wide-field observations obtained with WFCAM on UKIRT, in conjunction with previously-published optical and archival MM data, to search for outflows and identify their driving sources; we subsequently use colour-colour analysis to determine the evolutionary phase of each source. Results. Within a one square degree field we have identified 37 complex MHOs, most of which are new. After combining our findings with other wide-field, multi-waveband observations of the same region we were able to discern 28 outflows and at least 18 protostars. Our analysis suggests that these protostars are younger and/or more energetic than those of the Taurus-Auriga region. The outflow data enable us to suggest connection between outflow ejection and repetitive FU Ori outburst events. We also find that star formation progresses from W to E across the investigated region.

Kinematics and the origin of the internal structures in HL Tau jet (HH 151)

Knotty structures of Herbig-Haro jets are common phenomena, and knowing the origin of these structures is essential for understanding the processes of jet formation. Basically, there are two theoretical approaches: different types of instabilities in stationary flow, and velocity variations in the flow. We investigate the structures with different radial velocities in the knots of the HL Tau jet as well as its unusual behaviour starting from 20 arcsec from the source. Collation of radial velocity data with proper motion measurements of emission structures in the jet of HL Tau makes it possible to understand the origin of these structures and decide on the mechanism for the formation of the knotty structures in Herbig-Haro flows. We present observations obtained with a 6 m telescope (Russia) using the SCORPIO camera with scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. Two epochs of the observations of the HL/XZ Tau region in Halpha emission (2001 and 2007) allowed us to measure proper motions for high and low radial velocity structures. The structures with low and high radial velocities in the HL Tau jet show the same proper motion. The point where the HL Tau jet bents to the north (it coincides with the trailing edge of so-called knot A) is stationary, i.e. does not have any perceptible proper motion and is visible in Halpha emission only. We conclude that the high- and low- velocity structures in the HL Tau jet represent bow-shocks and Mach disks in the internal working surfaces of episodic outflows. The bend of the jet and the brightness increase starting some distance from the source coincides with the observed stationary deflecting shock. The increase of relative surface brightness of bow-shocks could be the result of the abrupt change of the physical conditions of the ambient medium as well as the interaction of a highly collimated flow and the side wind from XZ Tau.
